Paczki Day 2025: The Best Paczki in Metro Detroit | Eater Detroit
"The small island bakery sells classic paczki by the dozen in traditional flavors alongside their not-to-be-missed pizza and pepperoni rolls, homemade pizza, and loaves of freshly baked bread." - Courtney Burk
Quality baked goods at this old-style family-run bakery. The prices are reasonable but service can be a little slow when only one staff member working, usual in morning. My one key suggestion would be to switch to paper cups for their coffee, as I found styrofoam add slightly unpleasant oily taste.

Grosse Ile bakery is wonderful. They always have a good selection of donuts and cookies available. They have homemade breads and rolls, coffee and drinks. More than just a bakery.

I’ve been coming here for years, and they truly have the best doughnuts Downriver—hands down. Always fresh, never too sweet, and made to perfection. Be sure to get there early, because they sell out fast!

This is an traditional bakery and has been around for a while. You can have your early morning coffee and donuts and come back for pepperoni rolls on lunch time. They have changed the interior and it is amazing! Come check it out!!!

Grosse Ile bakery staff went above and beyond for a birthday cake for me. The Texas sheet cake was moist and chocolatey, much better than the boxed cake I might have tried. The chocolate frosting was creamy and paired with the cake without being too sweet. The personal message was great to include and the leaf decorations were so beautiful. Thanks for making a great birthday!

Great donuts, amazing croissants, good ice cream, coffee, bread, cookies, sub sandwiches, unique take on pizza (take & bake or by the slice), pepperoni rolls, pop, cocoa. Great place to gather, walk or bike to. Always friendly. Always fresh. Love the pictures of the locals on the walls.

Grosse Ile would not be itself without this bakery. It's iconic to the region. Everyone on the island loves the bakery. I've been getting their pizza for 25 years. Also, all of the traits you ever need. Thanks

Yelp
Excellent service. Very friendly staff. The owners usually know and what you like.
The baked goods and doughnuts are best in whole area..the cream sticks are full of cream all the way thru not like most bakeries.. I love the maple sticks but are only made on the weekends

Yelp
Thank goodness!! I've been looking everywhere downriver for some decent donuts! I traveled to the island to this local favorite. Smelled good check, friendly staff, check and a assortment of goodies so I can't still be an awesome girlfriend but not actually have to bake. I had a donut that had peanuts and some kind of amazing substance to make it all stick together. I will be traveling there when the autumn leaves start falling.

Yelp
This is the cutest bakery in the area. Wonderful customer service. The walnut cookies were delicious. They have ice cream, coffee and so many different kinds of bake goods. We tried the build your own sandwiches as well. The bread was soft and chewy and they really hook you up with the meat and veggies. Much better than any subways. As for the price it is way under priced for the quality. All around wonderful experience. It is more then an hour from me but when I am in the area I make time to stop in.

Yelp
When on the island, check this place out. Great variety of baked goods & everything is delicious! Grosse Ile is a small town, and I definitely prefer to come support this great small business instead of going to Starbucks in Kroger. That's not to say you're sacrificing quality. But the biggest reason I like coming here is the people who work here. The couple who owns it is so sweet, and they really brighten my day every time I come in to chat and get some great bakery food.

Yelp
This is a good bakery to stop at for fresh donuts if you live on or are visitng the Island. They have a nice selection of breads, donuts and rolls. I can recommend the French Creullers and the Walnut Kifli. I am still brushing off the powdered sugar as I type this. Not the best I have been to but pretty darn good. Worth stopping if you are in the area and have a sweet tooth.

Yelp
I think Grosse Ile bakery would be a perfect spot if it was cleaned up a little bit and had more variety of maybe sandwiches

Yelp
I went to Kathy's restaurant on Grosse Ile. I had a sandwich on the rye bread which is different than any other rye I ever had. It is very light in texture, very crisp when toasted. They told me all their bread items are purchased at Grosse Ile Bakery. So a friend and I went there. After several trips we have tried the butter walnut cookies, pizza rolls, pepperoni rolls, brownies, pumpkin doughnuts, eclairs with custard, long johns with white filling, apple fritters and glazed doughnuts, and the raisin bread. Everything has been very good quality, not sure why the pepperoni rolls are so popular they are a bit dry - but they are usually sold out by mid afternoon. The brownies are very rich. The pumpkin pie squares are as good as any home made pie. The owner was quite pleased to know we traveled 30 miles to get there and told us several families from Chicago come monthly. It is worth the trip.
