The Best NYC Coffee Shops With Wifi For Getting Work Done - New York - The Infatuation

"Ground Central is where you go when you’re in Midtown and you have work to do but no office to do it in. Although, if you’re in the neighborhood, you could also just come here to hang out and drink something caffeinated. There’s a nice sitting area with couches in the back, and they offer free wifi." - sonal shah, molly fitzpatrick, will hartman, neha talreja, bryan kim, willa moore

11 Great Midtown Coffee Shops - New York - The Infatuation

"There are two Ground Central locations in Midtown, and they’re both on the East Side. The one in the 40s is more of a grab-and-go spot, but the location on 52nd actually has some room to hang out. It might get a little busy here, but if you need to escape the office for few and close your eyes in a comfy chair, this is the place." - bryan kim

Where To Go On A Coffee Date In NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"Yes, it’s a silly name. But it’s much better than meeting up anywhere where they’re going to misspell your name in sharpie on your grande to-go cup. Ground Central has a back room that feels like a parlor room in a wealthy person’s home. It’s a little dark back here, but that will only help you forget you’re having a date in Midtown." - hannah albertine

The Best Coffee Shops For Meetings - New York - The Infatuation

"Ground Central is a Midtown coffee shop with a back room that looks kind of like someone’s library, and it’s a nice spot for a meeting with a few people who eventually need to get on a train home to Connecticut. The back room is pretty dark, but on the plus side, the area’s normal chorus of jackhammers, horns, and sirens feels somewhat muted." - matt tervooren

Google
This is a great spot for coffee lovers. The coffee is smooth and well-made, and the space has a cool design. A perfect place to relax or catch up with friends.

Google
The vibe is very charming for the morning time. We got dark chocolate croissants, each at 4 dollars, very fair price, while the quality was very good and they were relatively large.

Google
Good cafe, nice vibe. We got a coffee, zucchini bread and lemon poppy muffin. I was happily surprised to find vegan food items. They have couches and cozy chairs.

Google
The barista knew exactly what I needed. They make their coffee very nicely where it’s not too sweet we don’t get to taste the coffee and it’s not too bitter where it’s unbearable. It’s just right where you can taste the coffee beans and enjoy it. Definitely for coffee lovers, not the people that drink Their coffee very very sweet.

Google
Perfect place to stroll in and get an espresso and latte. Atmosphere was truly local NYC and staff are absolutely the best. Had the hot latte, the barista made the creamiest, smoothest milk I ever had. Bravo and thank you. PPIO

Google
This is the kind of groovy coffee shop I was hoping to find in Manhattan. The music, food, and of course the drip coffee were phenomenal. I really like the people who work there also

Google
Employees are posting flyers that link to some pretty antisemitic websites. (No, not just anti-Israel but actively antisemitic) E: management removed it and apologized, which was nice. I probably won’t go back, and leaving this review up as an fyi, but I appreciate the gesture.

Google
Delicious coffee in town. I really loved the cappuccino, the coffee gave perfect match with the almond milk. The latte with coconut milk was mouthwatering. U also should try the almond croissant, the size was big and not too sweet, match so well with the coffee. For 2 beverages and 1 pastry, I paid for $19.94. I also loved the christmas decorations inside the coffee shop, they were so beautiful. Moreover, plenty tables with AC Plug so u didn't need to worry hanging out and enjoying the delicuous beverages there.

Yelp
Happiness is having an hour to kill before a Broadway show and randomly walking into a great coffee shop in the rain. This place had it all for me - great atmosphere, comfy seats, delicious coffee, several milk alternatives (including macadamia) and a fantastic banana muffin.

Yelp
I came here to work remote on a weekday afternoon, and wow it was busy lol. The first thing I noticed upon walking in was how loud it was from people chatting, coffee grinding, and music playing. It was busy, but I was still able to find a seat near an outlet right away, and there were usually a couple open seats or people just had to wait a few min for someone to leave. There were a few outlets around the tables in the front space, and I saw some cozy looking chairs and couches in the back, though this area was full for the duration of my stay. I ordered a simple drip coffee, which was nothing special but kept me awake through my post-lunch slump. While the seating situation was good, the free WiFi was kind of spotty. My laptop connected but never had full bars so my Zoom and Teams weren't running properly, and Google chrome kept blocking me saying that the connection wasn't protected. I ended up hotspotting from my phone instead because I was too lazy to look up somewhere else to go and figured other coffee shops would be full in the afternoon, but I probably wouldn't come back here to work. It was also so loud from all the people chatting in the background, so it was distracting for me when I was in meetings. This is a decent spot to work offline without meetings or to catch up with friends, but if you need to be in meetings I would find somewhere else to post up.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my matcha latte here yesterday! A dear friend and I hadn't seen each other in years and decided to catch up while he was in town over coffee/tea. This provided the perfect location! For the area, this coffee shop is more of a boutique vibe and very different from the many chains in this area. There was a good amount of seating for a smaller shop. We had no problem getting a table for two at 4 PM. I had an iced matcha latte with oat milk. It was not sweet, which is how I like it! The balance of flavor was perfect and I would totally order it again. My only negative was that it was very warm and humid in the store. It is super hot right now, so it would have been nice to have stronger AC, especially for those of us sitting inside. I look forward to going back and trying their espresso next time!

Yelp
I came here at 11 AM and was surprised to find that most of the pastries were gone. I got a flat white and olive oil chocolate chip cookie. The place was pretty packed but we were able to find some seating. Everything was delicious as usual.

Yelp
We needed a pick me up after walking around the city and this was right around the corner from our hotel so it was perfect! We loved the aesthetic of the shop and everyone was so nice! Highly recommend and we will definitely be back.

Yelp
Weak coffee. No Stevia? Hello 2024. Great atmosphere for chilling. Not so much to do work. A little too vibey to be on any call or deep focus. Check out for yourself.

Yelp
You feel like you're in a cozy neighborhood yet you're between Columbus circle and Times Square. It's a little dark. There's a large table, couches and oversized chairs. Bathroom is clean. Staff is individualistic and professional. Coffees decent and there are plugs ! All this means it gets busy. The young cute ambitious crowd isn't obnoxious. Has all my variables - I hate it when it's too bright in coffeee shops.
google avatar

Mark L.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop. The coffee was good, in the darker side, but not bitter. I had a croissant, which was also good. I stopped in at 7am as they were opening. It was not busy, but filling by 7:30am There were various tables for getting work done. A large work table and bar seating along the window. Small high, round tables. There is living room seating in a back room. Service was friendly.

Yelp
I'm not a huge coffee drinker but was looking for a cozy cafe to hang out while my friend and I waited for a table at a nearby restaurant. Ground Central popped up on my Yelp search and I'm glad we stopped by. Pretty quick service so the line wasn't too long. I ordered a mocha and it was a good combination of sweetness from the chocolate and slight bitterness from the coffee. It was packed inside and every table was taken, but we managed to snag a seat. The back area had couches and it looked like most had been lounging for some time. Seems like a chill spot!

Yelp
First time visiting this location, but have been to the location on 52nd near 3rd many times. Super comfortable shop, lots of bar and table seating out front and then the library area in the back filled with books and comfortable couches and chairs. I love the decor here and as always the staff was super friendly. Ordered a chai for the first time as I usually do cold brew and it was one of the best chais I've had in a really long time, absolutely perfect for a miserable day with record rainfall. Also tried the banana bread with Nutella. I'm not usually the biggest Nutella fan, but this was delicious! Banana bread was super moist and flavorful and the Nutella wasn't overpowering. If it's available, definitely get it, you won't regret it!

Stephen C.

Yelp
Good coffee and a pleasant space. Most people simply grab and go. I have always been able to find a place to sit and enjoy coffee while getting ready for the day.

Yelp
Today is my Birthday and my husband wanted to surprise me with Cappuccino from one of my favorite coffee shops around. It seemed very light when I took it from his hands. He said I got you your favorite right: " Macadamia milk cappuccino?" He is not a coffee drinker. I opened the lid and here is my $6 small cappuccino :( Not to mention it did not taste very good either. I'm sad - I like this location of Ground Central. It's very cozy inside and the manager is very nice. But this is my second experience in a row here of not having coffee up to par. Crossing them out from my list.

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee shop in Manhattan, right near Central Park in Hell's Kitchen. All the walls are unique artwork specific to the culture of the neighborhood. The back includes a hidden, peaceful library for reading and relaxation. The baristas are chill and friendly and fun! Oh yea! The coffee! The espresso in its pure form is excellent. Perfect crema, delightful taste and excellent finish! A medium roast blend from four countries! Thanks Alex the barista for all the great info and coffee tips! Life is good with tasty, chill and creative coffee!

Yelp
Wow. Major attitude. I asked for latte with oat milk cause I have a milk allergy. I saw the girl pouring from the regular milk so I asked "oh I'm sorry I asked for oat?" And she looked me in straight in the face and said it was oat. WTH. Coffee is ok but not worth it coming back for the attitude.

Joe G.

Yelp
Atmosphere, top shelf. Coffee is real good (only had single origin black). Not sure where the pastries come from, but they look delicious. 90's alt music is chef's kiss. Along with the 90's music comes rude 90's Gen X customer service. If it's atmosphere you want...you gotta take the good with the bad.
google avatar

Trevor B.

Yelp
Nice coffee shop with areas to lounge and converse. They have music a little louder than most coffee shops, so it may not be great for studying or work meetings. Seemed like most were here to converse and visit with others. The service was prompt and friendly. The coffee was fresh and tasty.

Yelp
- Locale Destination - It's on W 53rd st and 8th Ave in NY. Ambiance: warm, cozy Menu: coffee, tea, pastries Service: quick - Gluttony Expedition - Cappuccino: a touch butter, but overall good coffee. - Conqueror's Deduction - 3.5 stars. I guess coffee standards in NY are pretty high. Solid good coffee overall.

Grace K.

Yelp
Workers are not friendly and coffee tastes really bad - super watery and not worth it.
google avatar

Shing W.

Yelp
Great location but was here hoping to do some work and their WiFi does not work as of 7/10/24 - keep getting an error saying their network certificate expired and is insecure.
google avatar

Julia M.

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop to walk/bike to!! I don't get coffee though, they have an amazing chai, but usually I go for an oat milk matcha with vanilla/lavender. Best pastries around, and they keep me coming back just for this delicious rosemary honey biscuit. I always recommend this place when meeting up with friends to where now they suggest it to me! Love this energy

Yelp
Good coffee. Fast. Bought some coffee to go and staff was nice. Yay! Cute to go cups!

Yelp
Fun shop. Friendly staff. Good coffee. I love the arm chair. Wish there were more!! Kudos

Yelp
I am somewhat picky about coffee. I roast mine at home and I like mid roast, not burned (sorry Starbucks fans). When traveling, I like finding local places where the baristas take your drink with dedication to add to an already great product of nature and process This is one of those places. Great location if you are near Times Square. Ambience is relaxed and somewhat eclectic. Great music! Reminds me of great coffee shops in the PNW. Lots of space for people watching by the window or on the street if you are flying solo (8th Avenue, so lots of good fun stuff happening) . Plenty of room to sit and chat w friends. Baristas greet people by their name as regulars come in, so this is a local spot. My Americano with steamed milk on top was delicious and a great start for the morning. Mid roast that allowed many layers of flavor to stay there for a while. Temperature was perfect, I did not have to wait too long to start indulging on my morning addiction :) not dark roasted nor bitter. Perfect. They also have pastries, which I will try next time and do an update!

Yelp
I give all the stars for the ambiance and library setting in the back. I love that. I wish they had a better selection of food. The "grab and go" was pretty well lackluster. Got a coffee with oat milk. Service was not friendly. Smiles are free, folks. Maybe add one or two, to go. Get a little bit of light in there with the attitudes. Best wishes though... the physical setting is thoughtful and sweet. With some smiles I'd have given 4, slightly better grab and go, a solid 5. There is potential.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place the morning we arrived in NYC. It was the perfect cozy spot to grab a coffee and warm up on a rainy day. The service was fast and the people were friendly. The hazelnut latte was amazing!

Lex S.

Yelp
5 stars for the lovely staff and coffee (they are always on point) but why is there NO AC in there? On a hot day we need some respite from the heat (obviously!!) No other cafe worth its salt would be without working AC.
google avatar

Rebecca M.

Yelp
The back room is a little sanctuary. With tons of books couches and fun chairs. There is a restroom for customers only and the coffee and tea selection is pretty bad ass. Staff is friendly and efficient and taking a drink orders.
google avatar

Yelp
We planned to visit Princi, which is located a few blocks away from Ground Central, but it was closed without correct information online. Therefore, we just searched on Yelp for coffee spots nearby. It was a surprisely great experience there with no expectation before our 1st try. We had their homemade Almond Croissant, Lemon Pound Cake and 1 hot Latte & 1 hot Mocha. We love their pastries so much, especially the pound cake, creamy & soft with moist texture. Their coffee bean is the special edition from La Colombe, which is one of my favorites and it was so delicious & refreshing.
google avatar

Yelp
Yummy latte!. Fast service I recommend coming here if ever you are in the area! Convenient
google avatar

Eugenia Y.

Yelp
I love Ground Central. The vibes are great, the employees are so friendly, and there is a lot more seating than you would expect from a café in Manhattan. The coffee is also good, and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit there. Great place to get some work done!

Amy K.

Yelp
We had a vanilla latte and Americano. They were vary tasty. The service was fast and friendly.
google avatar

Ari E.

Yelp
Excellent service, ultra caffeinated drinks, and welcoming space. Can I just say, automatic 4 espresso shots in a large latte makes Ground Central my hero. Most places do 2 or 3 shots so when I asked for an extra shot the barista rightfully gave me a weary look of, are you sure. She immediately let me know that would make it a 5 shot drink and my heart about stopped and restarted when it sang with joy. Suffice to say I didn't get the extra shot. We both laughed and she assured me that I could come back if I didn't get the kick I needed. They also have simple syrup for us iced drink lovers. This is an automatic bonus point for me. The back area has a nice dark lounge area. Perfect for the early risers that need to sip on their coffee and perk up before the sun accost them.
google avatar

Maleka H.

Yelp
Just your regular coffee spot, pastries and chill spot. Not much seating but just enough. I did not like the pastries for some reason it was dry and hard. It's mainly for folks chilling with a laptop.
google avatar

Jeff T.

Yelp
Nice branch of this coffee chain with a neighborhood coffee house vibe and friendly staff. Taking off one star because of regrettable decision to eliminate discount loyalty card. With a fancy new Starbucks reopening across the street, what were they thinking?
google avatar

Kayla P.

Yelp
Reasonably priced coffee at an accessible location. Friendly service and sufficient seatings
google avatar

Ailun H.

Yelp
I'm not usually big on lattes but I was suddenly craving one while walking around. Glad I stopped by to get the lavender oat latte! I'm not usually impressed by lattes but this one was quite delicious! There wasn't much espresso taste, but I really like the lavender syrup here. The lavender flavor is very fragrant and I like that it wasn't too sweet. It also complements the oat milk very well. The downside is that it's a pretty expensive drink. I'd recommend it if you like a more subtle latte!
google avatar

Samika P.

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee shop in Manhattan. Nothing beats the quality of the coffee as well as the plethora of seating. My usual order is a iced vanilla latte, and it slaps everytime. I always come here to write or get work done because I never fail to find seating (which is a rarity in the city). All their breads/cakes are amazing, too. The Nutella stuffed banana bread and lemon cake are so flavorful and moist. I would highly recommend this spot to anybody looking for a place to work or relax with a delicious cup of coffee.
google avatar

Dipali G.

Yelp
I really like this coffee shop! This place is such a luxurious my in a busy part of town because of the ample amount of seating they have. The they have this cool area in the back with seats! It's very loungey! There is also a bookshelf in the back which is pretty cool! The front has ample seating. The coffee is also very good, I highly recommend this place
google avatar

Gavin R.

Yelp
I only really care about the quality of coffee early in the morning. But this is class regarding decor and excellent coffee hands down. Great staff

Danielle P.

Yelp
Their large latte used to have 4 shots of espresso, suddenly they're only using 2 shots. It's WEAK in every way. Half the value for the same price. To get it the way it had been costs close to $9!! I used to be a daily customer, now I very rarely treat myself. If the owners are reading this, your shrinkification strategy is losing money in the case of this former regular. Please change it back! Or *at least* 3 shots -- c'mon!
google avatar

Tod R.

Yelp
Love everything about this place. I grew up out West where coffee culture (in America) started. Ground Central takes me back home, and I don't have to leave Manhattan. Granted, back home wasn't that great...but the coffee houses of my past had a huge comforting influence, and I can experience all the feels right here in midtown, and then walk back home to the UWS. The coffee is great too--which is shocking in NYC.
google avatar

Angela YJ B.

Yelp
I liked the coffee - a large Americano on a weekday in March after somewhat strong flavored Thai lunch. A bit acidic for me, but I suppose it was their ground of the day. It is quite renowned for its murals ... dark black walls ... dim lighting ... which personally am not much of a fan of. The seating right in front of the murals was ver cozy on a sofa ... but that was it (for me). We carried our coffees out since it was a beautiful day after all.

Yelp
Ground Central Ratings: 4.3/5 Food: 4.5/5 - I got an iced Americano with oat milk, while my friend got a cold brew. The iced Americano was refreshing and light. I think they added a bit too much oat milk and made it too creamy, wished it was stronger. The cold brew is tasty and delicious. Definitely not fruity or tarty (sour) at all and is pretty strong, so I am a big fan. Overall, good coffee. Ambiance: 4.75/5 - There are tons of indoor and some outdoor seating areas. The back area is spacious and cozy with couches and a very laid-back vintage library vibe. Love the atmosphere and the music. There's also a bench, big chairs, and other interesting furnitures you can sit on. Downside is it can get pretty loud, so probably not an ideal place to study or work, but plenty of outlets. Price: 4/5 - Decent price compared to other coffee shops. We ordered two regular sized coffee: iced Americano and a cold brew for a total of $9 after tax and tips. Service: 4/5 - Typical coffee shop customer service from the barista. They are friendly and nice. Attentive and welcoming staffs all around the store. BLUF: This will be my go-to coffee shop. Cozy with a speakeasy vibe. Awesome place to catch up with friends and good decent coffee. Recommend the cold brew. Will return to try other coffee drinks and their pastries or simply the workspace.

Yelp
I had a lg pumpkin spice latte with almond milk that's super yummy. Better than Starbucks!! Then I had the tuna avocado and mayo sandwich that was all right but not worth $11. Finally I had a cherry vanilla scone that was amazing. WiFi was horrible couldn't get much work done. It's nice that they require vaccine card for dine in.
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
Cute comfortable coffee shop. Usual options, plus a really nice assortment of pastry items. You can also get food too. Go early for the pastry, though, by the end of the day it will be slim pickings. The mocha with almond milk was really good, it tasted like hot chocholate rather than a coffee with chocolate in it. There's a lot of seating in the front area, with a really cool couch/chair room in the back with a totally different vibe.
google avatar

Adrienne G.

Yelp
It's all about the Oat Milk Latte! Using Oatley Barista blend, Mr & I took the cue from the crowd & placed our order.....forego the regular milk & give Oatley a chance! Latte with an extra shot. Perfect coffee to milk ratio. Creamy & needed no sugar. Doesn't get better than that. We ordered this every morning we were in NYC. Paired with the spicy cheese biscuit for the Mr & the pumpkin muffin of the day for me & we're talking the perfect morning treats
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
OMG that almond croissant! I love a good coffee shop with fun chairs to just spend some time in to read. Ground Central has a great vibe, a peanut butter hazelnut coffee that is to die for, and the added bonus of selling my fav, Pure Green juice! I could spend hours here!

Aisha A.

Yelp
Worst attitude ever by the barista! When I asked for the coffee art, the barista replied I do not "normally" do it for a cortado!
google avatar

Sherry L.

Yelp
Got an iced almond milk latte. I didn't like the latte that much I feel like it was too nutty a flavor for me, but it got the job done. I would like to try their other non coffee drinks though, like perhaps the chai. I would come here more for the good workspace rather than the coffee. There's a large communal table as well as stools and side tables along the wall. Also in the back there are couches and a more lounge area that looked comfy. There's also free wifi and I was able to work well while I was there. Most people inside were doing work on their laptops but it was loud enough that you could also just grab a coffee and chat with someone.
