"Recently reopened, the Arts District's Groundwork Coffee location is all things shiny and new. Bright and welcoming, the shop greets you with samples of their specialty drinks (we went home with the Iced Mocha) and plenty of spots to set up shop and do some work. With a lofted area in the back, don't be surprised to see people working on screenplays or research papers, enjoying a fresh croissant with their bona-fide Los Angeles coffee." - verynice

Love everything about this place. The outdoor seating area is nice and spacious, the coffee is good and the food is excellent. Love the vibe of this place, very nice space to work in on your laptop. I got the breakfast burrito and the cinnamon coffee cake and both were very good and clearly made from scratch. Friendly baristas as well. This place is 10/10

I just adore the staff at the traction DTLA location. Very personable and always on point. I basically go because they have vegan items. The vegan burrito bite slaps and the price is just right! She a fan, she a fan, she a fan mmmm hmmm

Google
I’ve gad their coffee before at grocery stores and it was nice to see an actual shop. I ordered their latte with almond milk along with a shot of espresso and a nitro cold brew to go. The latte was solid, flavor was excellent and temperature was just right. The cold brew was also great with a nice kick for caffeine. Parking was limited to the street but the interior was nice and big with lots of seating options.

This morning, we tried an unfamiliar Groundwork location in Downtown LA, as we usually prefer the Launchmount and Sunset spots. I typically don’t write reviews unless absolutely necessary, but I feel compelled to share my experience. We spent nearly $60 on our food, and my mom was with me. When I asked Ali for a side of aioli to accompany my burrito, I was told there would be an extra charge due to company policy. This response was not only rude but also completely unacceptable. I had already paid for my burrito, and there was no effort made to accommodate my request. I’ve visited many Groundwork locations and have never encountered this issue before. It seems that this location prioritizes profit over customer service. It's a matter of principle—kindness should not be disregarded. Because of this experience, I will not be returning to this location.

Google
Today my best friend, my partner and I decided to check this place out this morning. I ordered the vegan breakfast tacos and had their house mocha iced. The food was awesome and had a nice presentation. The vibe was laid back and the staff were very polite and helpful. The establishment is very inclusive and the food portions were good. All of the ingredients were visibly fresh and we all had a wonderful experience. I would have to say this establishment is underrated and more people should check it out.

Google
My favourite coffee spot in the arts district. The service is unreal, even though they’re just behind the counter. Super warm and friendly, they know their customers and they remembered me after only a few days. Honestly made my trip to the states so much nicer to know I have somewhere to go in the mornings where they have such a welcoming atmosphere. They’re also open at 6am which is awesome, cause you can have a coffee before a run or whatever. Definitely get the pumpkin chocolate bread, that is unreal. And the horchata cold brew is crazy good. Thank you so much to the lady who knew I was heading back to Australia today, it honestly made my day!!

Google
I came here to do some work and drink some coffee. Wifi was reliable and the place was clean and spacious. Plenty of places to sit and they have a bathroom. Food wise, they close the kitchen an hour before closing. So I wasn’t able to try any of their food since I came in a little before 3 p.m. The caramel latte with oatmilk I got was delicious. The latte and a bottle of water were $11. They close at 4 and I would go again 👍

Google
Pricey, but good. Parking isn’t too bad in the mornings, just depends when you get there and then you can expect to pay and or walk a ways, lots of yummy places around it, but the breakfast sandwhich was good. Def recommend. And would return.

Giselle L.

Yelp
I ordered the vegan breakfast burrito (with slight modifications for my preference), and it was one of the BEST vegan breakfast meals I've had! It was so flavorful and filling. I read reviews beforehand, knew I had to try it, and it did not disappoint. If you have the means to and want to try a vegan item, make it this burrito!

Karina C.

Yelp
I got the caramel latte coffee hot and my son got the same but cold. Both were so good. The lady was so sweet and helpful with a nice smile. The coffee looks so cute, lots of people not loud at all. You can sit and enjoy a good conversation and great organic coffee. The best is inside the LA Auto Show.

G C.

Yelp
Groundwork hires amateur roasters who do not know how to roast coffee. You're better off going to Charbucks vs paying for basic coffee marketed as premium. Beans on the left: Groundwork "Light Roast". Beans on the right: what light roast should be.

Amy Z.

Yelp
nice place, worker was super friendly. ordered herbal tea, which was mango + hibiscus unsweetened for 4.50 and it was pretty good. had a very nostalgic taste to it which i enjoyed. they put quite a bit of ice tho so it watered down quite a bit. lots of seating, nice lighting

Priscilla O.

Yelp
Favorite spot to open up my laptop and get some work done. Nice ambience, great staff, and the drinks are delicious. Also there's a free water station, lots of pastry and snack options, and not any blaring music.

Tori S.

Yelp
Cute little cafe :) I got a hot latte to go. We were making a trip to LA and decided to stop here, and I'm glad we did! Also, it looks like a great place to study and do work. Great outdoor space too

Yasmine B.

Yelp
Great food love it here! Always get the freshly squeezed orange juice. The spicy breakfast sandwich is super yummy, highly recommend ! There's plenty of seating and there's an outdoor patio too.

Kylie T.

Yelp
I've stopped by a few times to work with some friends on the weekends in a writing accountability group. I love this spot because of the loft area seating, the overall relaxed atmosphere, strong coffee options (groundwork does NOT miss on any of their drinks), and abundant food menu! The fried egg sandwich is really good and very fresh. I'm a sucker for a good matcha, but their cold brew is also so solid I'm torn between which to order each time. There seems to be ample space to sit and enjoy the space kind of regardless of when I've stopped by. Parking isn't too bad either - for a while the meters on the street weren't working and the text to pay app also wasn't online, so I've been able to park for free the past few times I've stopped by. This spot is so solid!

Cris I.

Yelp
Groundwork Coffee in DTLA Arts District is a solid choice for coffee aficionados seeking high-quality beans and a variety of brewing methods. They do have inside and patio seating so many customers are getting their work done here. There's also restroom available for customers' use. No private parking but it's easy to find street parking. Since Groundwork primarily focuses on coffee and offers pastries and light bites, don't expect a full breakfast or lunch menu here.

Amy Y.

Yelp
Coffee: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 The horchata cold brew is so good here. It's such a unique drink that I haven't tried anywhere else (although I will say I'm not the biggest coffee drinker) and the combination of cinnamon, creaminess, nuttiness, bitterness is so good. It's pretty strong. I'd come back here just for this drink. The person taking my order actually recommended this drink and you can even sample it. The matcha was good but didn't stand out to me. Service is great, both the person taking my order and making my drink were very nice. Ambiance is cozy, there's an upstairs floor where there are ample tables to study or chill. There's also seating outside. Parking is not great but you can definitely find something. The space inside is pretty big and not too crowded. I really enjoyed the vibes of this coffee shop.

Susan L.

Yelp
Love Groundwork! Friendly service, food is really good. I'm a regular customer of the Arts District location.

Jagruti L.

Yelp
I was here early morning on 12/05/23 looking for a breakfast/tea spot. It is located in the Art District. It is a cute spot for: coffee, tea, pastries and breakfast. They have both inside and outside seating. It is also a great place to meet up or telework. The parking wasn't easy to find, but luckily, I was able to find one spot at the curb. There is a parking lot space in front of the shop for $4. I am not sure if it is by the hour, minutes or for the day. Ordered: Large Passionfruit Peach Iced Tea - lightly sweetened. It was pretty good. The Fried Egg Sandwich - fried eggs, applewood smoke bacon, guacamole, pepperjack cheese on a house made sourdough, herbed aioli and side of salad with dressing. It was pretty good sandwich. Ask for their special salsa. It made the sandwich taste super delicious. If you are in area and need a coffee break or even a snack, come stop by here. They absolutely have vegan pastries and vegan breakfast.

Alyssa B.

Yelp
Solid choice for coffee lovers based on what I've heard so will have to update when I get a chance to try their coffee. Shoutout my barista for suggesting that the honey bee matcha is well on the sweeter side and that the iced matcha latte with a pump of syrup would still be less sweet. Iced Matcha Latte - 3/5 Not the best that I've had but decent fix. Short Rib Burrito - 4/5 Come hungry or ready to split this with someone! It's so heavy and packed with potatoes and short rib. Appreciated that this came out so hot and fresh. Definitely coming back to get this.

Tony Y.

Yelp
I came here for coffee and a spot to get some work done for a couple of hours, but also ordered their bitches brew hash and it was delicious. I highly recommend getting it. What I wouldn't recommend is the horchata cold brew. It's way too sweet. There's plenty of tables inside and even some outside. However, only the tables along the wall on the upper level have outlets, but large power blocks, like the ones that come with MacBooks, will not stay plugged in. Service was exceptional. There's paid street parking but even that can be hard to find sometimes. Walk here if you can.

Hannah S.

Yelp
Solid coffee and breakfast food in the arts district! I go often because they have a lot of seating, so it's great to get work done. Good wifi too. So far all the coffee I have tried has been great -- from the lattes, to the americano, to the Vietnamese coffee. I also love the coffee cake and the house granola with almond milk. So refreshing and perfect for a light breakfast when you're not too hungry. The fresh berries on top are my favorite part.

Kimmie W.

Yelp
The Bitc*** Brew Hash - It's seductive yet playful, playful yet flavorful- this Bitc*** brew hash is synonymous to a wild party on my tastebuds. Oh the short rib, diced potatoes, chipotle aioli, green peppers, onions, but no poached egg!! You have the option for the poached egg or not!! When you want flava check out Groundwork Coffee!! Not only is the Bitc*** brew Hash full of flavor but you can tell they put IN work to make this specialty!! CHECK OUT the horchata cold brew with an extra dash of cinnamon- it is so creamy and caffeinated!!!

Amanda M.

Yelp
Pretty good breakfast options here if you're in the area. I tried the vegan breakfast burrito bowl, it's nice having this option so you still get the breakfast burrito taste without the breakfast burrito bloat

Maryam H.

Yelp
the food and coffee were delicious and Groundworks was the perfect work space, with lots of seating (upper and lower levels) outlets, and easy to access WiFi! The staff were very friendly and happily explained the menu items and answered my questions. I was wondering about the parking but currently the meters/ app are not working so it was free two hour parking- they said they don't check the area often and to just check on the car frequently if exceeding two hours. I loved the breakfast burrito and added bacon to it. It was so filling and well worth it!!

Cynthia H.

Yelp
I love their twist on the Horchata cold brew. It is outstanding! It actually isn't horchata but their cold brew version has all of the horchata flavors with hints of cinnamon and allspice. The horchata cold brew is creamy, smooth and blended with almond and condensed milk. They've done a good job with this! Plenty of seating, food and bakery options. I had the french toast, served only on the weekends, which was a tad plain but it was paired with fresh strawberries and blueberries, which made it still filling.

Eddie G.

Yelp
Service was great the young lady behind the counter gave us some great suggestions for food and drinks. Food was delicious but a bit on the small portion side. If you want a light breakfast and great quality food this is your place. It has a Starbucks feel to it. Lots of tables and plenty of people working on their laptops enjoying a coffee. Parking is pretty bad so you might have to circle a few times to find a spot if you plan on driving here.

Shaun J.

Yelp
Unfortunately got a burrito with a 2 hair strands in it. Pretty bummed out because the breakfast burrito is pretty good here. The woman who helped out handled it very professionally, so I'm still very grateful about that. I still enjoyed the beehive matcha latte though! It's a little cinnamon-y with a slight sweetness and tons of earthy goodness. I recommend this drink!

stephan f.

Yelp
It's... kinda weird. It's a giant converted train station across from the noho subway station and adjacent to the bus station. Kind of a hub for vagrants. Sadly. The coffee is fine but expensive AF. What isn't these days? Seating is not too comfy and parking there sucks. So.... Maybe skip this one? Republic of Pie down the street is much nicer with a better vibe.

Eric C.

Yelp
Love the coffee, and the customer service was excellent! I was waiting at the counter for a few minutes because the staff was busy elsewhere. When they came over, they apologized and gave me my drink on the house. Great place to study too, lots of seating

Leslie S.

Yelp
Our first visit to Groundwork Coffee was a great one! A friend recommended that we stop by here because of their horchata cold brew and breakfast options. The horchata cold brew was delicious. It was sweet and had great cinnamon flavor with hint of coffee. I've never had a coffee drink like this one and loved it. We also ordered the breakfast burrito and the fried egg sandwich. Both were good! We preferred the burrito because it had more flavor. We recommend Groundwork Coffee and enjoyed our visit!

Karlo G.

Yelp
Best Chemex I've had!! Lupe and Dani rock! They make the perfect brew! Ask for them! Update ** 11/25/23 I recently made a triumphant return, armed with an arsenal of experiences as a seasoned coffee enthusiast and food aficionado. The ambience, though a tad chilly in the vibes department for my taste, rocks a rustic decor that screams urban LA coolness. Now, let's talk coffee. Just had their Sumatra pour-over, and oh boy, it was an orchestra of flavors! Major shoutout to Nancy, the barista extraordinaire, for crafting me a cup of perfection today! Intrigued and ready for round two - planning to explore more of their coffee wonders on my next visit!

Andrea C.

Yelp
Great cafe and coffee place to add to your list. Many breakfast varieties to choose from brunch sandwiches to pastries. Indoor and outdoor seatings are available.

Kassandra S.

Yelp
I didn't get any food, but it's more Pastries than actual food I believe, maybe they have some avocado toast The service is quick & the people are nice The ambiance is quiet & great for working. The wifi is strong & has good connection. There are outlets upstairs and downstairs. I've gone here twice around 10:30a and aleyas found sitting near an outlet

Cynthia D.

Yelp
Ordered the beehive matcha latte with whole milk and wow the honey is definitely there. Personally, too much honey that it overpowers the matcha flavor. I love that I saw them make the matcha in a matcha bowl but so sad that I only tasted honey.

Guido K.

Yelp
The ASMP invited me for a get-together - and I had one of the best lattes I ever had in LA and even my wife, usually particular about coffee, bragged how good her drip coffee was. We did not eat, but what I saw from the others looked delicious. Service super-friendly, appealing ambiance - I mean, it's a cute little coffee place, not the Ritz ;-) I will certainly go again, and yes, I would make a 30+ min detour just for their coffee (you see: it was REALLY good).

Johnny D.

Yelp
Well, this was my first time here. I'll start by saying that the place looks very nice. Pretty chill spot. But the customer service needs a bit work. No one acknowledged my presence as soon as I walked in. I was waiting in line and still no one asked if I had been helped yet. No eye contact either, even though I was standing 8 ft from them.... Then I noticed a gentleman had walked in and started ordering from the counter, so I figured well I guess this isn't the line so I walked up to the counter and finally ordered my food. I mean a warm welcome would've been good, right? Example; "Hi, welcome to Groundwork, we will be with you in a moment." Then, "How can I help you?" Moving on. Now, the BLTA was great! Very tasty I will add. And the Horchata cold brew, was very good. Never tried it before, and it did satisfy my curiosity. I will give Groundwork another go. I will look forward in trying something new. I'm going to give 4 stars for the food and because of the dude that brought my food. My short interaction with him was waaaay better. Great attitude and had a better customer service experience. And also because this was a cool looking spot. Cheers

Markivious S.

Yelp
Love this coffee shop, i come here almost DAILY! The staff if great and the drink are also great. I do wish they would do more specialty seasonal flavors like they use too, I'm still waiting for the day they bring lavender back! Fingers crossed

Roger G.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast burrito with short ribs!!!!! Worth it! Winning menu with specialize brewed coffee. Must try!

Kevin L.

Yelp
I've been living under a rock for the past year. So my work is located in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles. When I know it's a heavy day, I'll want my dose of caffeine like any normal human being. There's a Coffee Bean across the street. There's a Starbucks a quarter mile away. I would get my coffee from either one of those two spots until my colleagues formally educated me on Groundwork Coffee. What have I been doing for this long? I was blown away for getting cheap, generic coffee when this awesome place was right around the corner. Ever since then, I've been going here multiple times a week. I'll go for the Vietnamese coffee when I want a shot straight to the brain. On less hectic days, I'll go for a latte or a cold brew. Check out this trendy spot if you're in the area.

Seohyun P.

Yelp
lots of places to sit indoor and outdoor! menu has selection of drinks and food items. It is a bit cold indoors, so bring a jacket if you are planning to stay a bit to work, chat, etc. I got the horchata cold brew; a lot more sweeter than I expected--more horchata, less coffee flavored. Light on music, so it's a great study or work spot!

Samantha D.

Yelp
Went to Groundwork coffee to sit and work and it was such a great little workspace. It was a bit loud but honestly the AC and outlets were perfect. I got a cold brew (which turned out to be SUPER sweet-- wayyy too sweet for my liking) and a breakfast burrito. Those two things came out to $30 so I would say this is on the pricier side for a small coffee shop which along with the struggle for parking is where I deduct a point. Service was great and they were friendly so above all else I had a great experience!

Archeta R.

Yelp
VEGAN BREAKFAST BURRITO. All I have to say. Their coffee is good and their matcha is okay (honestly overpriced), but oh baby do I crave this burrito. The spicy dip on the side is just oh so good and the potatoes inside and crispy and delish. The cafe is also great for working - outlets, wifi, and plenty of tables. There's limited free parking out front if you get lucky, and a lot of street parking on Rose if not.

Iona B.

Yelp
Great spot with excellent coffee, good politics, real cups, and lovely outdoor seating!

Andrew L.

Yelp
Needing to find time to chill for 4 hours, I heard that this was place a nice place to work with a great Breakfast burrito... and honestly both of those reviews are spot on. The only thing I could gripe about is the price. The burrito was amazing (I got the base version without any meat and it was amazing with their sauce, especially the orange one), a solid 9.5/10. I also got this with their Vietnamese Coffee since I needed to study for an exam and my god I could feel the caffeine rushing through my body. Would get again if I need to stay awake for less because I was able to drink this for two days and have enough energy for both days. And of course their study area is very spread out with a lot of outlets, tables, and free Wifi. The music is also on the lower end so definitely a vibe. Would come again :)

Mark B.

Yelp
I was around the area in Arts District looking for a coffee shop, and this was the one my partner and I decided to check out. It was a sweet-looking spot with plenty of tables for sitting and working and even a private restroom. They had a solid variety of drinks to try, but we opted to get the Horchata iced coffee and a Mango black tea. The coffee was good, but the tea was not my favorite. The prices are a little high, but that's normal for a coffee shop in DTLA. Also, finding street parking can be annoying at times and may require a couple of laps around if you don't want to pay for parking in a lot. Overall a solid coffee spot.

Shefali L.

Yelp
Second time here and the first time I was here was prior to the pandemic and it was very busy. The vegan pastries were delicious especially the cinnamon roll but it was too sweet. Coffee was okay but not as great as I expected it to be. Other options were good. The shop is decent with enough chairs and tables go do work. The staff are friendly. The second time I was here, I decided to try their vegan breakfast item and skipped the coffee. Got the BLTA and it was okay. The price is high for the sandwich. The atmosphere is pleasant and can be loud at times.

Jessica P.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop in the arts district, they have plenty of seating inside. There were a handful of people around the shop either with friends or busy on their laptops. It seems like a great place to come and work for the day! I couldn't decide on one drink so I ordered an iced oat milk matcha latte and a Vietnamese iced coffee, they DID NOT disappoint. The latte was creamy and tasted so good, the iced coffee was loaded with caffeine but it was still a little sweet. I paid a total of $15 for both drinks(before tip) which is a little expensive in my opinion but it's worth the treat!

Andrew H.

Yelp
Went there today at around 6:30am on a Sunday! Very few on sea are open and there was parking right in front!! The customer service was wonderfully kind and helpful! No Bfast at the time, so I got two pastries: matcha croissant and a cinnamon coffee bread. I also got a cold brew concentrate, whole beans (the supernatural blend) because I got some whole beans, I got a free cup of coffee and the Vietnamese coffee. The pastries were tasty!!!! The free cup of coffee was the same as the whole beans that I got, loved it.. soft and light fruity taste. Everything was top notch... except for the Vietnamese style coffee... it was premixed and came from a large container. It must be quite a popular drink to come in that way. I'll say that it was aiight.... I wish they had the Phin and pour over into ice and condensed milk, but they didn't... it came from a large container of premix? As I said... it was aiight... I wouldn't classify it as being a category of Vietnamese coffee, IMHO... sorry for the loss of a star... BUT, that aside, this place was great!!! I hope to come back again on another early Sunday!

Ono D.

Yelp
The staff at this location are some of the most unpleasant and rudest people imaginable. Every single time I come in for a pickup they never even greet or acknowledge me. When I actually do need their help or have a question about my order which I dread having to do.. they are always extremely short with me or rude. They act like I have the audacity to even speak to them. Some customer service training is definitely in need at this location. They destroy the ambience and the overall experience of the entire place. I'd probably come in more often if it wasn't for those miserable people. I haven't met an employee that worked there that was actually pleasant in the slightest.

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Food is ridiculous, as in ridiculously good, coffee is amazing. The bitches n hash or something like is my favorite !! The ice vanilla latte is yummy, the horchata cold brew is really good as well. Since I no longer live in LA I rarely go, but when I am in LA I always go!

Gogo S.

Yelp
I'm an idiot, you all are kind! This morning I went to order ahead and had the wrong location. I didn't get it because I just kept thinking 3rd Street, well the traction location is cross 3rd but not on 3rd (duh). So I try to order ahead online, says they are out of stock on vegan burrito minis (but I bought one yesterday?). The person in the phone tried to explain they didn't have a kitchen so I thought it meant maybe they were delivered and reheated on site, like in a microwave. I kept asking him "do you not have them now as in you are out of stock or are you saying you never had them". To make the long short he disconnected the call - I get it, busy guy, counter full of people, idiot on the phone. But I was livid, I was just so confused and it took 4 tries to get through on the phone. I go to the traction location because I'm literally a block away... Lo and behold, I was in fact CALLING THE WRONG LOCATION. I tell this whole debacle to James, Ally, and I think Danny behind the counter and they understood where I was coming from, made me feel better about being so slow ja ja ja and helped me out. Now I have the best vegan breakfast burrito this side of the arts district and am just so jazzed that I didn't have to 86 this place for attitude, because my friends, I was an idiot.

Aslı P.

Yelp
Such a great coffee shop for so many reasons. 1. Good for working - Free wifi + Lots of table space AND outlets. Music is the perfect volume. Good lighting. 2. Great coffee - their drip coffee and espresso drinks are all so delicious 3. Great FOOD - the burritos here are amazing!! So unexpected for a chain coffee shop. But seriously try the breakfast burritos (I especially like the vegan one, even as a non-vegan)

Rebecca J.

Yelp
Yum yum yum ! Solid iced decaf oat milk latte . I usually like my coffee with a pump or two of sweetener but I just had it plain today and it was yum ! The place itself is clean and close by a sausage place on the corner that looks too good not to try . I also would recommend the overpriced avocado toast here as well . Had this spicy sweet glaze on it and a perfectly cooked egg . 10.00 . Some seating available outside and a few other places to check out and eat near by . Also very close to little Tokyo ! :)

Septima M.

Yelp
Bottom line if I'm gonna pay $7 for coffee, it should be a great drink. Without attitude. Service is hit and miss as new people get hired. But they are usually efficient! I mostly order pickup and love the way they label your coffee, you don't even need to park the car. Food items are made in the back and brought out directly to you! Everything is always yummy, and quick eats! You can hang out here for hours! Locals are sweet and chatty! They have an easy rewards system that I've enjoyed for years! Today however was a huge miss. My drink wasn't tasting as it usually tastes. It tasted like hot milk. When I explained this, the Latino barista explains to me it's suppose to taste like hot milk, essentially because of the size I got! I always get the same drink, same size! He just doesn't make it correctly. He needs to work on his technique! Baristas there are always on point, but he didn't even get what I was saying or listening really. Maybe he doesn't do enough espresso and cuts it short in the pour! I don't know! But it wasn't right and he refused to fix it. Only telling me to pay more for more espresso! No! So I guess Tuesday's is the OFF day! Thanks guys! Heading to verve! Where I can get a 12 ounce on a Tuesday, that doesn't just taste like hot milk!

Yelp
First time trying groundwork breakfast and man don't sleep on it, Everything I have tried so far is bomb. Breakfast sandwich delicious with runny yolk .. breakfast burrito with bacon and that orange sauce fire. Order online quick pick employees always welcoming .. love it
