I have been to Group Therapy a handful of times and this last time will be my last. It is loud, expensive, and has poor service. That said, the restaurant is beautiful and the outdoor patio is a delight.
The prior two times we have walked in and stared at by the customers. Not a fault of the restaurant, but you're met instantly with a weird energy. The hosts are unfriendly.
Onto the food and drinks. Food is good, there are some reasonably priced items. Cocktails are out of this world. The cheapest cocktail is $20.
This past visit will be my last, here are the events that unfolded: We were a party of 8 celebrating a birthday and came around 8 PM. We were just coming for drinks and were sat outside by the pool in a cabana and it was a very nice atmosphere. Instantly, the waiter, Karl, insisted on bringing out a birthday shot. He proceeded to bring out 8 (again, which we were not expecting) pink lemon drop shots. He said he would comp the shot for the birthday boy. Then, we ordered a Veuve Clicquot, Yellow Label for the table. $150. Obviously overpriced ($30/glass) -- whatever, we are celebrating. 10 minutes later the waiter comes back with two small bottles and said this is what they had. I don't know, if you're charging $150 for a bottle I would expect them to actually have one lol.
Then someone ordered a bottle of rose. 5 of us got cocktails, one got a beer. The waiter was pushy with the drinks, which were extremely slow to come out. After the drinks came out, the waiter told the birthday boy that they could not make his cocktail and offered an alternative. My Titos Martini was $21.
The bill came, the waiter said they are unable to split the bill more than 3 ways (weird thing to admit at the end of the meal). I offered to put my card down. I noted the bill had 20% gratuity included which was hidden, while the write-in tip part was enlarged. There was no mention of automatic gratuity. I understand that gratuity is included in larger parties sometimes when the bill is split - but we did not split and also we did not order any food. Then, I noticed that the pink lemon drop shots were $22 each!!! For shots we didn't even want. And, the birthday boy's was not even comped. I asked the waiter how much the shots were and he said $20 and he comped the drink because it was the same price. I said the receipt says they're $22 each, and that he comped a less-expensive item. I dropped it to avoid causing a scene. Overall, the whole experience felt somewhat dishonest.
The restaurant is loud, expensive, and truly the only thing it has going for it is the name.
