Growing Gardens

WOW! We took our school, Adventure Montessori, here today for a field trip. We experienced an extensive food tasting trip from the garden and learned about composting. The kiddos loved it. Sophie was phenomenal and great with kids. We are blown away!

Mountain Flower Dairy is a magical place right in the heart of Boulder! Open seasonally: Visiting Hours will run every Sat from April 29th - June 30th from 10am-1pm (and then July 1, Aug 5, Sept 2, Oct 7 from 10am-1pm). They have had many kids born this spring so come on out and snuggle the babies! They host private tours for families, small groups, large groups, etc, as well as Birthday Parties!

Amazingly fun!! Baby goats, guard llama Hazel, and milk samples for all. Will go back in Spring to see the new heard!

Wanted to love this place, but unfortunately, 90% of the plants I bought from their plant sale were diseased and I had to pitch after being in the ground for around a month. I know its not my soil, because I have a few starts growing from other plant stores in the same bed that are thriving. Now it is too late for me to start tomatoes and they were not cheap, relative to other tomato and pepper starts at other stores. Really unfortunate.

A priceless asset to the entire community! Try the farm market on Wednesday evenings and the plant Swaps and Sales in season.

We were so excited to feed the baby goats. When we got there, we were informed that even though the sell 12 tickets a day that there are only 9 baby goats to feed. Therefore, 3 people would not get to participate. It was a huge disappointment because that is what we paid nearly $30 per person to do. So, it felt like we were intentionally scammed because they already knew that there wasn't enough goats for each person to feed one. We did get to spend 15 min petting the baby goats, which was great. Overall, we probably won't be back.

I purchased some plants from their annual plant sale and when I returned home to plant them I discovered they were already dying with limp and yellowed leaves. I emailed them to see if I could have a replacement or credit, but received no reply. I will not be purchasing from here again.

The baby goats are adorable. My kid loves to play with them and they're very gentle with him.

While not a brick and mortar plant shop, Growing Gardens does sell the best organic seedlings in their spring plant sale. That's around the first two weeks of May every year. They sell veggie, flower and a great selection of native plant seedlings. Show up early though. The line to get in forms 10 minutes before the sale opens. Service is friendly and prompt. And while the seedlings are pricier that those in big box stores, you do get the value that you pay for. Tip: if you're getting lots of seedlings, bring your own high-sided plastic or wooden tray. The little pots tend to flop around in the small cardboard trays that they send you home with and you'll get soil all over your car. Cardboard is not ideal because some of the plants may be damp underneath and this composty liquid could seep through to your carpet.

We just moved to Boulder county and are excited to begin our yard projects for the Spring and Summer. I saw an ad in a gardening newspaper about Growing Gardens. It was my first time hearing about them. We decided to go check out the 15th Annual Growing Gardens Community Plant Sale. For 2015 the dates at May 2-3, 9-10, 16-17. The times are from 8am-4pm. We showed up to the Growing Gardens Greenhouse on 1630 Hawthorne Ave in Boulder and it was packed full of people! There were signs pointing us to the greenhouse (which was great since it is in a neighborhood and didn't quite look right!). There were folks outside assisting with parking and we were able to park close by. Once inside we found a selection of annuals, perennials and harvesting crops. We were delighted to find everything we wanted to plant in our new raised beds. We found a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. We went home with 2 raspberry bushes ($15), multiple lettuces (they have a ton of options), hot peppers, sweet peppers, zucchini, yellow squash, tomatoes, multiple herbs, green pole beans, eggplant... We spent nearly $200 but got a couple boxes full of plants! They were sadly out of blueberry bushes when we got there. Maybe they will be there in the next couple weekends? I am not sure if they grow more plants elsewhere, but if not you will want to go early! Overall, I like that I am supporting a Colorado organization. The plants were reasonably priced and in great condition. The volunteers/employees were helpful and (some not others) were knowledgable. It was a fun way to spend our morning and we got a bunch of great plants! If our crop does well, I plan on going to Growing Gardens again next year!
