They have been holding my security deposit hostage for almost 9 years. My bill is always paid in full. Not once disconnected. I pay late but its my business to pay a late fee not theirs. I am also owed several months of interest for the security deposit that has not been paid. I pay my bill or they disconnect. However, when they owe you its take my time to resolve!

This company is predatory and a scam. I recently moved out of my house and needed to put my utilities account into the name of someone else living there. I called GRU and after waiting on hold for over an hour before finally speaking with a representative, they let me know that I needed to first shut down my account before someone else could start their own account. She also let me know that if I shut down my account that same day, I would have to pay $40, but if I delayed one day, I wouldn’t. Well, the next day they shut down all of the utilities at the house and are now trying to charge my old roommate $40 to turn them back on. The representative my roommate spoke with at GRU today had no idea why I was told I had to shut down my account yesterday. This is ridiculous. Train your staff better. This company purposely gives customers incorrect information so that they can charge them inflated fees when it was their fault all along. They have also charged me fees in the past for their own mistakes and refused to waive these fees. Their negligence also caused a dispute between my roommates and I as they thought I had purposely turned off their service. Stop preying on college students.

A lot of people who claim that show you is expensive don’t realize that we’re paying for a lot more than electricity. The service I’ve had following disasters has been outstanding. Blackouts are very very rare. And the price per kilowatt hour is just a tiny bit more expensive than neighboring utilities.

Always most expensive utility company quiet possibly in the entire nation, they will nickel and dime you for everything and charges are based off estimates not sure how the SEC hasn't investigated this place, twice the average price electricity than any where else I have another home with a massive pool that I keep heated and pump working, and home cooled to 72 degrees and it's still less than a tiny apartment in Gainesville FL with AC at 75 ridiculous company then they charge for trash and wonder why the whole city looks dirty meanwhile every other city looks clean because residents aren't afraid to throw it in the proper containers. Inverse thinking at work here and I thought this was where the smart people where.

I’ve actually had pretty good experiences with GRU. Most recent was getting my gas turned off and then back on for tenting. Clay was great - knowledgeable, helpful, informative and even went over and beyond to triple check something with his supervisor for me and my family’s peace of mind.

Joe was so awesome! We are in the process of buying our first home and our first phone call was not the best customer service wise and left us with more questions than answers. So after doing our best to figure things out online, we reluctantly called again expecting the same thing. However, we were pleasantly surprised with how patient, kind and informative Joe was with us. He explained in great detail what we needed to do and then handled it all for us. Then did a recap of everything to make sure we had no unanswered. It took a huge task off of our plates and made our day. Thank you so much Joe!!!!!

GRU’s Monopoly Is Failing Gainesville GRU continues to mistreat its customers with impunity, and it’s unacceptable. Their practices are unfair, their customer service is consistently hostile, and their rates feel punitive. What’s worse is the lack of choice—we’re stuck, and they know it. That kind of unchecked power breeds neglect, and GRU is a prime example. The people behind the company seem disconnected from the community they serve. Instead of offering solutions or empathy, they double down on bureaucracy and blame-shifting. It’s time for accountability. Gainesville deserves better.

I'm so grateful for the exceptional assistance from the GRU customer service representative, Danitra. I called them when I noticed an unexpected charge on my bill, she patiently explained to me, and after realizing the issue wasn't entirely my fault, went above by consulting her supervisor to waive the extra fee for me. Her professionalism, kindness, and willingness to help truly made a difference. Thank you for your service.
