"I learned that Grumpy’s was caught up in the five-alarm fire a few weeks ago and has not set a reopening date." - Tim Forster

We came here on Memorial Day for lunch. We walked in and were seated promptly at the counter. The interior is what you'd expect from a fisherman themed diner and is a fun vibe. The clam chowder was excellent and my Reuben with pasta salad hit the spot! The cornbread raspberry muffin was a great finish to the meal. Worth a try if you're in the area!

Nice selection of items on menu. Waiter knew one of the patrons, said, " I know what YOU want" Served quickly. . Good coffee in a MUG-bought one for my collection. Open bfst and lunch. Busy place-go early!

First time at Grumpy's and we had a great time. Had the scramble with linguica, amazing! And the quiche with tomato bacon and cheese, fantastic. And blueberry pancakes, perfect. Bonus, we sat outside and saw a stoat!

Love this old-school breakfast/lunch spot in Dennis. Great coffee, good food, pleasant company. Libby at the bar is a sweetheart. Highly recommend

Google
Have been there a few times now, always delicious. We got breakfast food each time but there is also lunch available. Always great service and food, I would highly recommend it!

Google
Might look busy but will crank out customers. You can't go wrong with the food but I do love the home fries. Parking is difficult to say the least but if you can get a spot I'd totally recommend it! This is a spinach feta scramble with raisin bread.

Google
Great place for breakfast! Food was delicious, staff was friendly, large area with alot of seating, minimal wait (do not let the line outside on a Sunday morning deter you it moves quickly).

Michael B.

Google
Cool place -- great atmosphere. Easy to relax and just enjoy some hearty breakfast food. I'd stick with the savory stuff. The hash Benedict was particularly fulfilling (the hash itself was amazing, though, if I'm going to be real picky, the hollandaise sauce was a bit split, which isn't ideal). The baked beans were also delicious, and, as a bonus, the view from the parking lot was peaceful. Overall, definitely worth the visit.

Yelp
This is a very casual, breakfast diner-type spot! We were visiting but based on my observation, it seems to be a hang out spot for locals. The staff seem to be friends with a lot of the diners. I got the homemade hash Benedict with hash brown and the portion size was huge!! I had to take half of it home, although I wish they gave more than one hash brown. Their cranberry nut muffin is the best thing since sliced bread.

Yelp
I heard the current owners are retiring & and hopefully selling, but I didn't want to take a chance on not ever having those cornmeal cranberry pancakes again! It's been a few years but I still remember them. Especially as it cranberry harvest season on cape again. I zipped over to grumpy's on Friday morning and the place was packed. No parking to be found. I had to drive around three times and finally get a spot, maybe everybody's having the same feelings about the place as I did, because they're just consistently good breakfast. So I ordered my cornmeal cranberry pancakes & they did not disappoint. (of course you could have them with blueberries or I suppose other fruits, but something about those warmed cranberries was special). Three huge delicious pancakes arrived with syrup and I added a side of sausage. 2 large links were delicious, wish I had more than two because these three huge pancakes were more than I could eat. I had leftovers the next day and enjoyed them tremendously too. I had friends that enjoyed their breakfast of fried eggs, English muffins, and a side of regular pancakes. The coffee there is OK and service was excellent. And 3 meals came to $49 which seems rather reasonable these days. The room is big and loud, today there's lots of locals having a good time so nothing wrong with that. It is the off-season, Hurry in and enjoy.

Yelp
When in Hyannis/Dennis area, we've frequented The Daily Paper for breakfast. On a rec, we visited Grumpy's last Thursday (off season). Place was hopping. Feel like they could expand and make full use of the added space. Our server was great. Well, call us converts. Absolutely loved everything we tried. Cornmeal pancakes were delicious, eggs & homemade sourdough toast great, and imo best of all the home made corned beef hash and refried beans. The hash in particular I would say is probably The Best we've ever had - and we get this pretty much every time we go out for breakfast. That's high praise. One bite and you know there it wasn't out of a can or jar. The shredded corned beef was so light and tasty and the cubed potatoes perfectly cooked and mixed in. You'll want to order another helping to go!
google avatar

Yelp
Grumpy's definitely lived up to the positive reviews! The food was STELLAR! The eggs were cooked to order, bacon was plentiful and delicious, toast was well buttered, pancakes hit the spot and homefries were flavorful and cooked perfectly! The coffee was strong and delicious. We got a muffin to go and it was also amazing. The whole experience was fantastic. It was a busy place, even at 11a but the service was on point and attentive! Cute little place full of locals and vacationers!

Yelp
A disappointing breakfast at Grumpy's in East Dennis. Poached eggs overcooked, ersatz 'hollandaise' from a mix, and a din such that all conversation with our breakfast companions was drowned out. The noise level was atrocious. The others said they enjoyed their food but no one finished their food. I was aware there'd be a significant wait and didn't want to go there but our companions selected this spot. We used to go quite often in the old days. Now that we live in the Upper Cape I doubt we will go there again.

Yelp
It's a very dingy, a bit dirty, nostalgic place. Coffee was watered down but unlimited! Service is excellent, I didn't expect much, but with those prices at least I expected a cleaner place, the carpet seems to have never been cleaned. But for a tourist place, many people don't care about that, Food was good overall will I come back? No DM for more info!
google avatar

Deb C.

Yelp
Great breakfast spot hope it continues even with new ownership. Only issue really is finding a parking spot. Maybe ride your bike there!
google avatar

Abbie B.

Yelp
Cozy and old school vibes here, such a great spot! Service was quick and great and had a great meal here. Got the hearty special, would opt for the home fries instead of hash brown patty next time but everything was good!
google avatar

M A.

Yelp
I had seafood cake Benedict and home fries. The hollandaise sauce was house made and quite good. The seafood cakes tasted almost sweet, which means the seafood was fresh and the cakes were not deep fried. The homefries were great too: crisped on the outside and soft in the middle. The place is cozy, wood but well lit. There was a line waiting to get a table and in spite of that we were seated quickly. The service was polite and food delivered swiftly. The portions were large. Our only problem was too many specials and menu choices. All in all I wish we lived closer- we would be here a lot.
google avatar

Yelp
Well I have officially jumped on the Grumpy's bandwagon! We stopped by for breakfast on a Sunday in February. I did not expect a line but indeed there was one. No worries it moved right along. I opted to try the homemade hash and cheese omelet and upgrades for a muffin instead of toast. That was a $2.49 upcharge but their muffins are well worth it. The omelet was quite large but at $15 it should be. I watched as many plates went by and each one looked tantalizing. This is a place you definitely want to visit and I am sure to return as well. Btw if you want muffins to go... and you WILL want muffins to go. Order them right away or you may disappointed.
google avatar

Peter B.

Yelp
The phone goes to voicemail and no other numbers listed How can you order when your phone doesn't work?
google avatar

Christian H.

Yelp
Food selection and portions are great! The service is wonderful. It's like having breakfast at your grandmas house. Views are really pretty if you get a window seat. And if you're lucky enough to be staying across the street at the Sesuit Harbor House like I was then it's an extra bonus.

Alexis M.

Yelp
Grumpy's has been a favorite of ours for awhile and it still does not disappoint! Went for breakfast and the portions were huge. Two of us had omelets, one had the eggs Benedict and lastly an order of pancakes. We all left with very full stomachs. Can't wait to go back! There was a wait for a table, but the staff was really kind and it moved along pretty well.
google avatar

Yelp
Grumpy's is our go to breakfast/brunch place to go when we are on the Cape. As we say 'we go for the muffins and we stay for breakfast'. The muffins are incredible, all of them although the corn muffin is pretty standard. All the others are soft, large. And have loads of flavor. The blueberry ones are loaded with blueberries. The breakfasts are just as fantastic. The hearty breakfast (3 eggs, bacon, sausage, and choice of home fries, hash browns, etc.) is a great deal. And their other selections are done very well too. Menu is extensive with both breakfast and lunch selections and the specials are posted on chalkboards around the restaurant. The staff, most of whom have been there for years, are very friendly and helpful. Seating is all tables and counter space. They will configure tables to accommodate most group sizes. Depending on when you go expect that you may be waiting outside for a table but the wait is worth. If you don't mind sitting at the counter let the host know when they come around to check group sizes. Counter seating is sometime more readily available. They don't take reservations.

Yelp
We had the Cape Cod Reuben, made with cod. The rye bread was toasted to perfection and buttery, the fish was crisp, the fries were crispy. Overall great lunch experience. Limited parking is the only downside. There is a large selection of breakfast items also. Would recommend checking out if nearby.
google avatar

Will M.

Yelp
Grumpy's is a Cape Cod must! Get there early for seating or be prepared to wait in a line to get in. The line may look long, but it moves at a consistent pace. We love the pancakes, but honestly everything on the menu is great and the coffee flows freely.

Kevin F.

Yelp
This place has been around for years and is consistently busy, especially for breakfast. Be store to get there early, or you'll have to wait. The food is always great and the waitstaff is fantastic!

Michael G.

Yelp
Grumpy's always serves one of the best breakfasts we have had. We love the muffins, pancakes, eggs, etc. We love it so much we usually go twice in our one week stay on the Cape. The service is attentive and the vibe is on point for a Cape breakfast place.
google avatar

Jen H.

Yelp
Local vibes and delicious food! I've been coming here for over 20 years and it's consistent every time. Their portions are generous and they have a huge specials menu displayed on multiple chalk boards that rotates with new choices every so often. They have a great system for waiting and the tables turn pretty quick. The staff is extremely friendly and some of the servers have been there a long time. A vacation to the cape wouldn't be complete without a breakfast or lunch at Grumpy's!
google avatar

Erika D.

Yelp
Love this place! Always delicious & super friendly staff! I have been coming here since I was a teenager (I'm 46 now). The portions are huge, prices are reasonable. The muffins are huge and all their baked goods are delicious too. There is always a wait on weekends and Summer so be prepared to wait!
google avatar

Nancy H.

Yelp
New favorite breakfast spot on the Cape! Our entire family swears that Grumpys is the best but we somehow hadn't been in yet. We stopped in this morning for a quick bite and weren't disappointed. Atmosphere is quaint and comfy. Similar to many of the other great breakfast places around. They have a decent amount of parking, but it definitely would fill up fast. It's obvious that on weekends and during the summer... there would be a wait here if you come during regular breakfast hours. I ordered the Eggplant Benedict, which was unique, but so delicious. I would absolutely get it again. Their hollandaise is perfect and there home fries are super flavorful. We left with full stomachs.
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
Canoli french toast? Ummm yes please!! The food was amazing. The kids wanted to come back the very next day, but we wanted to make our way around the Cape. Great service, great food, and moderate prices. We will be back to Grumpys for sure!
google avatar

Alan D.

Yelp
Very delicious breakfast place. Staff are friendly and very kind and helpful, only downside is the price although its very expensive its still worth it. 4 stars!!

Dave S.

Yelp
Unreal Breakfast. Reasonable, delicious, and well run. Would travel from other cape cod towns to enjoy again.
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
What a great breakfast place! I had fluffy pancakes, moist scrambled eggs, and a phenomenal blueberry muffin! Bacon was extra crispy as ordered and muffins were so good I had to take some home. Service was great and everyone was friendly and nice. I will be returning soon!

Shirley C.

Yelp
Delicious place. Lovely staff. No alcohol FYI. But a nice cozy homey spot. Easy and plenty of parking. It's vary " Capish"
google avatar

Steven J.

Yelp
We went for a ride on the cape. I've been here for breakfast before and it was great. Lunch did not disappoint! We had the BigMac Salad and it was great.
google avatar

Yelp
Options options options Listen. Whatever you order. You MUST take home muffins. They are wild. Sweet almost like a pancake. Crispy amazing edges. Amazing. It's a must. Hollandaise wasn't my fav. Burrito is basic but huge. Homemade hash was a fan fav. But again. The muffins.

J T.

Yelp
Large menu includes virtually every breakfast food you can think of. Great food served by friendly staff.

Yelp
Oh boy we are coming back again on this trip. We love this place. It has a family mom and pop feel to it. Many of there dishes are homemade. It was very had to choose from. I recommend picking sides and sharing. You get a little of everything. The muffins are a must have. That stuff is crack so beware. It is served warm, grilled and some other way I can't remember. It was so fluffy and moist. Never had anything like it. The fish cake was . My goodness, it was tender flakey with a slight crunch. You can't pass it up. Our waitress made us feel like family. Actually the whole staff did. Some of them have been working there for over 31 years. It really shows how much they value their customers. No reservations. They do have a line out the door. They are quick though. The host comes out and takes a count of how many are in your party. No names or Cracker Barrel style "we will send you a text". Make sure you stay in line and have everyone with you.

Yelp
Grumpy's is heralded by local residents as THE best restaurant in Dennis, Massachusetts. And I'm here today to tell you that they are right! Don't let the long line of people waiting to be seated deter you. Just think of it as an indicator of how good the food must be, that people are willing to wait. Grumpy's gives you the feel of a diner/family-style restaurant, with great service that ironically feels like "southern hospitality". Everyone you encounter has a smile on their face and makes you feel at home. One thing I want to highlight that isn't pictured, was the grilled blueberry muffin that I ordered. It's hard to put into words how soft, fluffy, and buttery it was--but the crunchy outside and melt-in-your-mouth inside worked perfectly together. I ordered the corned beef hash omelette and they had to use at least 5 eggs. It was enormous!! One of the best omelettes I've had. The come fries were cooked just how I like them, soft but with a subtle crunch. If you ever find yourself visiting the Cape, add this place to your list!
google avatar

KEITH G.

Yelp
If you're ever in cape cod I'd definitely recommend this spot. Only issue is you might have to wait a bit for a parking spot and to get in on the weekends. I had the home made corned beef hash Benedict and it was awesome and person was with had the seafood cake Benedict which was also delicious. The service was great and attentive and the ambiance was relaxed and comfortable. I know if I'm back on the area I will be back to try out some of their other dishes.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Great local food choice. It is a very popular location so there is sometimes a line outside for a table. The menu has a great variety of items. The muffins are excellent. If you are looking for a casual and tasty meal this is it.
google avatar

George B.

Yelp
Always a crowd but it moves fast with great service and many employees. The food is outstanding and plentiful.
google avatar

Christine O.

Yelp
Excellent food, excellent service. Worth the wait in line. The staff does everything possible to please the customer
google avatar

Carrie K.

Yelp
**************Best Breakfast in town!!!! Service is great too********************* I tend to stay away in the summer since it's very crowded and the line to get seated is LONG
google avatar

Brittany K.

Yelp
Just go and get a muffin. Heck, go crazy, get a bunch. You won't be disappointed. Sure, they're a little ugly. But chocolate chip, blueberry streusel, cornbread raspberry, morning glory...they're all spectacular. (But I wouldn't order the breakfast burrito again.)
google avatar

Andrew B.

Yelp
Old school, friendly service. Everything was very good. Pancakes, French Toast, home fries. We really enjoyed everything. Totally laid back. Would recommend to anyone looking for a cool, local breakfast experience.
google avatar

Karisa W.

Yelp
We've been coming here for years!! Never disappoints. There are always delicious specials on the board. The service is fast too.
google avatar

Anna F.

Yelp
Nice place to have a hearty diner style breakfast before a beach day! There was a line out the door, but it moved. My friend liked her breakfast burrito, my other friend liked her french toast, and I liked my strawberries and cream french toast. I liked the home fries too. Seemed like a lot of people were getting them. There's probably a lot of tasty stuff you can get- I saw a little girl with a baked mac and cheese that looked tasty, with melty string-y cheese, and everybody in the place seemed to be enjoying their big plates of food. Sadly, we only saw the yummy looking fresh baked muffins on the way out. Def looks like you have to get the muffins.
google avatar

Gonzalo P.

Yelp
We love Grumpy's! In actuality everyone is extremely nice here and the food is absolutely amazing! There are more than 50+ different breakfast choices for anyone and they are all good. Naturally, because the place is so good, get there early, before 10:30AM. There will be lines after that and they do not take reservations, but even the wait is worth it. When the whole family, including the kids enjoy the place, you know is good!
google avatar

Samantha S.

Yelp
Overpriced. * The name of this place definitely lures you in. And I gotta give it to them, they got a great mascot. They sell shirts and mugs that are indeed very nifty. The atmosphere is retro and very comfortable. Wooden tables that have stood the test of time. There was an older man sitting at the counter reading his newspaper - wouldn't be surprised if he was a regular every single day. The food? Ordinary and priced way too high. A literal ladle full of beans was $4. A side order of beans should not cost that - even if it was homemade. I got a breakfast burrito and it was very bland and watery. I suppose the moisture from the eggs and peppers came out during cooking and it just made the tortilla mushy and fall apart. Couldn't really hold it. Coffee tasted watered down. The only thing I would really recommend are their muffins. Get one grilled - it is delicious. * Out here in vacation land I suppose they can charge whatever they want. The service was at least good.

Yelp
People like Grumpy's and many told me I had to eat there when I was on the Cape. So I did. Not sure I'd go back unless I had a large group of people to feed (they have a large dining area, a big menu, and plenty of parking). I had a cheese omelet, home fries, toast and coffee. Portions were large. Couldn't finish, but didn't like the food enough to ask to carry away the leftovers. Omelet was average, home fries were good but not the best, toast was barely warm and definitely not toasted. Coffee was average.
google avatar

Digby C.

Yelp
We stopped here for a late lunch after a visit to the Cape Cod Art Museum. The service here was great )I wish I'd gotten the hostess's name), and the food was mostly excellent. Beer-battered fish: A. Great breading, and it arrived piping hot, exactly what we wanted. Fries: B. They were fine. Coleslaw: This had a sweet dressing that my wife and son really liked, but I didn't like at all. Who the hell disagrees about coleslaw dressing? We do, apparently. No grade on this one. Overall a great experience, we would definitely come back.
google avatar

Mo B.

Yelp
* Covid 19* Its not that this is bad, but it not great either. I mean if I was out drinking the night before and needed something greasy to help me then I would 100% come here. But sober. I would pass and eat somewhere else or just cook at home. I didn't try a pastry but they had some yummy sounding options They do still have dine in right now which I think the elderly appreciate.
google avatar

Pat S.

Yelp
I almost don't want to post this review because I want to keep Grumpy's for myself, but oh well here goes. Excellent for families, generous positions, hugely varied menu including plenty of options for those on special diets, reasonable prices, great staff. Our go-to place when company comes or when we want to treat ourselves. Tip: If you're lucky, the baker will have made the lemon muffins on the day you go. If not, order one of the others and ask them to put it on the grill for you.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Grumpy's is hands down the best breakfast location on the entire Cape. The menu items are endless and the service is lights out. The same service team has been at Grumpy's for over 20 years and they haven't lost their zest for customer service. The food is always cooked perfectly and very fresh. I have also purchased muffins to go on a weekend and the are fresh out of the oven and very tasty. Come early or risk standing outside though the tables move pretty fast.

Yelp
Terrific breakfast food on the cape. Omelettes were Cooked to perfection. Service fantastic.
