The pizza is great, no doubt, however it is obscenely expensive. I dont doubt the restaurant business is expensive and cost of goods have only gone up.
Yet, I also believe there could be a lot done to this place to make it more welcoming. While the pizza is pretty good, the general attention to detail is what’s detail? For one, blasting spotify’s most annoying pop music of the year is so out of touch with the vibe of the place (for any place in east village?)
For peak hour in a friday night, there were four tables dining at the restaurant yet the background music was so loud that we could barely hear each other across the small table. But we could make out every lyric. Not just the music, the reverberant acoustics of the place made it possible to hear people at other tables more than our own. Music wasn’t the only thing.
The lighting around the bar also can be described as loud. An unnecessarily large mirror is italian, i guess. There are no bottles of booze to entice one to get a drink. A large, unstaffed bar with intensely bright lights and loud pop music. At one point my partner pointed out how strange the bar was and i just said probably why no one is here. Doesn’t fit the neighborhood’s more welcoming category of hospitality offerings.
All of this begs one to question why we would dine in next time instead of takeout.
All in all, we had the great pleasure of enjoying my most expensive pizza of my 45 years on earth. a great pizza , an ok greek salad, and split a glass of wine for nearly $100.
