Gryfe's

If I had to describe a Toronto bagel, it would be this. Going into this location on a rainy September morning, I was welcomed to a soft clean bakery. The person at the desk was helpful and accomodating. I got a Loxurious on an everything bagel and man, that was perfect. It was soft, pillowy with a slight bite from the crust. Even the cream cheese was pillowy and uniform, no dried out spots or uneven spots. The veggies were crisp and added no moisture, like who needs a wet bagel?? I wish there was something dill related, for some complementary flavors but I respect what they're doing. Will definitely pick up something if I'm ever in the area.

This place is extremely overrated in every way. I went in, and there was maybe 3-4 people in front of me, and all I ordered was a lox and cream cheese sandwich. It was very slow to get served, and then once I reached the cashier, they clearly forgot my order, and I had to ask for it twice and they went to find it on the other side of the store. The first time I asked, the cashier just rudely blanked me. Unbelievable. Not even a "one sec" . She should be fired immediately. As for the lox and cream cheese bagel, it was a tiny sandwich with a slice of lox and a bit of creamcheese. I had to open it to see the "vegetables" . For your own sake, please don't believe any reviews saying portions are generous. The only thing generous about Gryfes is how management lets their employees run around wasting time and making customers wait. And finally, the bagel wasn't even that good - basically it was like a somewhat chewier bun. Abe's bagels, Bagel House and many others are just as good if not better. I guess hype really works - got me to go out of my way to waste money here today. Please, please save yourself the aggravation and stay far far away from this dump.

I visited this bagel shop today around 1 PM and had one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment we walked in, the older woman working the front counter had a very cold and rude attitude. My sister ordered first, and when it was my turn, I smiled and said hello. Instead of responding politely, she gave us a dirty look and said rudely, “You’re only getting one sandwich?" to my sister. We explained that we were placing two separate orders, but her attitude never improved. When I asked if I could customize my sandwich, she bluntly said no, which left me unsure of what to order. She asked me what I wanted, and when I started explaining my order, she walked away mid-sentence to talk and laugh with another employee. She later came back and said, “Sorry, what did you say?” after completely cutting me off. At that point, I felt like a burden rather than a paying customer. I later asked if the regular cream cheese could be changed to scallion cream cheese, she sighed, rolled her eyes, didn’t respond verbally, wrote something down, and immediately called the next customer. After ordering, we waited 30 minutes for our food. During that time, no one gave us any clear instructions on where to stand, how orders were being called, or how we were supposed to receive our food. We were left standing around confused while employees continued working without communicating with customers. When we finally got the food, my bagel was made incorrectly and did not have the ingredients I ordered. On top of that, the bagels were extremely messy, ingredients falling out, cream cheese all over my hands. After waiting that long and being treated so poorly, the food was not worth it. None of us even finished our bagels. To make things worse, the same employee was loudly complaining in the back where customers could clearly hear, saying she hadn’t had her lunch because it was busy, speaking aggressively to another worker. Completely unprofessional. I work in customer service myself, and I would never treat customers this way, especially for asking questions, placing separate orders, or requesting simple changes. Customer service says everything about a business, and this experience ensured I will not be returning. This interaction alone cost the store two customers and earned this review. I was looking for name tags, but I could not find any, if I knew her name I would mention it, she was overall extremely passive aggressive, which made me feel uncomfortable.

Wow! Small shop, super fresh, airy, and full of flavor! The line gets pretty long rather fast. Early morning is key I think. But they bake them fresh and the line moves quickly. My friend told me about this place. And I am so grateful. The staff was super friendly, tones of variety.... I even seen that they have a small gluten free section. Homemade cream cheese in the fridge. The cinnamon sugar bagle was so beyond! Just a bit of butter. And heaven! Bagels 🥯 so light you could eat two at a time! I think they may also make simple sandwiches. Beagle and cream cheese.... Amazing!

I've been comming to Gryfes since I was a little kid. It's definitly changed over the years but the bagels are definitly still the best in the city. Staff are incredibly friendly. I come for the bagels and this pizza things. So tasty. I love Gryfes.

Customer service Issue :I usually love coming here for bagels, the staff are always polite and very nice. It’s a part of my community that I really enjoy. However, my experience today was very disappointing. There was a new staff member, a woman with short curly hair wearing a floral dress, who was extremely rude. She asked me several times how many bagels I wanted. I answered clearly (four), but she kept repeating the question with attitude. Finally, she said in a rude tone, “I just need to know what bag to use.” I have never been spoken to like this here before. Not everyone orders by the dozen, just wanted four. When I decided to add one more (making five), she repeated “five?” with a rude expression. I also noticed her being dismissive with other customers as well. This is not the welcoming service I’m used to at your store, and I hope it can be addressed, as it really changes the experience of coming in.

Amazing bagels and super nice staff! We were in the neighbourhood and the hubby felt like eating a bagel with smoked salmon so we Yelp and decided to visit this 100 year old family business. We made the mistake of not reading any of the reviews because 1) they only accept cash 2) they only sell baked goods on the weekends, so no sandwiches, not even cream cheese on your bagel. So we just bought a dozen of bagels and Philly cream cheese on the side. We had a crying toddler and were desperately trying to find enough cash to pay for our order, the cashier was nice enough to give my toddler a free plain bagel to calm her down. Bribery and food was the perfect formula, she stopped crying almost immediately. The bagel doesn't cost a lot but the gesture was so thoughtful and we really appreciate it. As for the bagel, omg, it was super fresh, soft and airy. Hands down the best bagel I've had in Toronto. I ate 2 bagels in the car on our way home. Couldn't even wait until we got home. I can't wait to go back!

Ridiculous expensive like wtf 8 dollars for half dozen to eat mushy soft bagels. If you have no teeth this is the perfect place to buy from.

Tried this place yesterday, if It's a true bagel you are you looking for, this is not the place to Go. Their bagels or just kind a like plain dough bread bagels, service was not so great, I could barely understand the cashier telling me and tell me my 12 bagels and my thing of cream cheese was $28 and the other thing is is that they're cash or debit only definitely not going back. Overrated.

These bagels were not anything to brag about. Just tasted like bland bread. We do not recommend.

First trip to Gryfe's this morning. Was not disappointed. Bagels are soft and delicious. Would definitely go back again!

Bagels are great. Service is disastrous. The place is a zoo. God forbid you should try to order anything in advance.

Interesting spot - I had driven by at night and almost thought it was an abandoned storefront but noticed a few signs that looked new. I decided to try their famous bagels and was not disappointed. It was chewy but not too dense and had this lightness even though it was substantial. Definitely impressed. I don't quite get why they don't offer it with cream cheese or other basic spreads - if you want cream cheese, you have to buy a container of it which is $8 and no doubt very good quality. But seems inconvenient. I'm sure they have their reasons and the bagels are worth it anyways. I also tried their cheese danishes and apple turnovers which seemed popular but didn't really get it - nothing stood out for me. And finally I got their challah bread which they only make Thursday and Friday afternoons. I think I was expecting something amazing instead it was "just" very good :) Definitely recommended for the bagels - worth a trip out.

As good as everyone says it is. CASH ONLY. Updated price list. Their bagels are soft and crispy.... Amazingly delicious. Grab some challah bread buns too! Everything and poppyseed bagel are the go to! There may be line but it goes quickly and it's worth it! Parking on the side by the neighbourhood.

An awesome bagel when just bought; and if anything, unique to Toronto. Not Montreal style so it should not be on this list. Bought fresh these bagels are beyond compare, never had one I liked better. But yesterday's bagels are ho-hum, while a good Montreal style bagel is almost as good on day two as day one. So no real comparison. It's a matter of personal taste whether you like Gryfes; you do or you don't, and there is no one else I know of makes a Gryfe's 'style' bagel.

Look, I'm an American and I know you're bagels are better. I had a really great time here and a really great bagel experience. Would recommend.

So far these are my favourite bagels I've tried to date. They are not heavy and have a soft, fluffy, and a slight chew to them. A dozen will run you $8.40 which is a steal for bagels this fresh and delicious.

Sometimes, on the way out of the city, my family halts the zipcar and runs in to grab some delicious Gryfe's for the road. They truly are the best bagels in town, which makes sense! Recipes that span over a century stick around for a reason... a delicious reason. I'm all about their everything bagel, warm and chewy covered in schmear. I hope I don't get too much Gryfe for this review. I've had good bagels in Cleveland and Ottawa, and amazing ones in New York City (my gosh, the ones from Brooklyn Bagel and Ess-A-Bagel and Murray's and Baker's Dozen are literally orgasmic), so I had very high hopes. I found these bagels to taste bland, cheap, and boring. Overrated, in my opinion, was never a better fit for a place. But perhaps they are the best in Toronto? I would hope not... I don't have much to compare them to here. Lots of great food though, Portuguese Bakeries, Chinese Dumplings, Greek Desserts, and so on. But this one did not do it for me. 3 stars because it's family owned and I fully support that. And they weren't awful by any means. It's a good thing you don't get locked up for writing negative opinions, because if you did, I'd have just earned 25 to Gryfe.

Poor staff, ignorant atmosphere and bug central. My boyfriend and I made a trek out here for what we thought were some of toronto's best bagels. The staff treated us like we were idiots when we asked if they had cinnamon raisin bagels. Rather than politely tell us that they didn't make any, they scolded us like we were somehow supposed to know the menu. The icing on top of this shit sundae, were the cockroaches all over the walls. Cockroaches! City of Toronto needs to pay this location a visit. So disgusting. We immediately left.

Dope place awesome bagels. 70cents each so you can't go wrong. On weekends they don't make sandwiches (i.e. bagels with form of topping - butter, cream cheese, etc). It's strictly the baked goods only. However the lady was so nice. She made me and my wife bagels with cream cheese. Lovely place. Small homely and very local. Delicious bagels. Amazing fresh bakery smell. Would recommend.

Great bagel. It is best bagel I ever tasted. Apple turnover and blueberry turnover is equally good. But have to come early or it is sold out quickly.

I've never tried their bagels, so cannot comment on those. But my kids, including a super picky one, love the pizza bagels. Although I think they are overpriced at $7.50 for 6 small pizzas, I bought them weekly. However, I was in the store today and noticed that prices are increasing as of Dec. 1 to $9.00 per package. Sorry Gryfe but you have lost a customer. The pizzas were $6.00 a package not too long ago. Oh, and your 'cash only' policy sucks. Tax avoidance anyone?

The absolute best bagels I have ever had in Toronto. My family has been going here since before I was born - and the store's traditions date back to the early 1900s. Even though we moved away from the area about 14 years ago, once in a while, we still make the trek to grab some bagels, pastries, and mini pizzas from Gryfe's. There is nothing like a Gryfe's bagel - especially when you eat them fresh in the early morning. While they ship them to some Toronto grocers such as Pusateri's, Bruno's, and the Kitchen Table, they're still the best eaten right out of Gryfe's bagel shop on Bathurst. Gryfe's has a long history in this neighbourhood and, through the years, their quality has stayed the same. It's a classic Toronto stop for many - from police officers to old-time fans and it's even been mentioned in fictional books where the story takes place in Toronto. They're the perfect bagels and with the combination of chewy, light, fluffy, and soft, and classic options such as poppy seed, flax seed, sesame, and multigrain (to name a few), you can't go wrong with one - or a dozen ($7.20/dozen). Eat them plain or eat them with something else - but I can guarantee that you'll be coming back for more.

I have to admit I don't frequent this area often - and driving around Bathurst looking for Gayle's it certainly didn't look an area that would be home to city-renowned bagels. Older commercial building which have seen better days line the streets. Looking left you see some closed up shops, looking right much of the same. Or maybe I was just in a mind-altered-movie-state during TIFF weekend. Any ways, even on a Friday afternoon Gryfe's had a few customers in line, each ordering a dozen of whichever types of bagels they had on hand. When they're fully stocked, there's about a dozen varieties, although they're all fairly traditional choices: sesame, poppy seed, extra poppy seed, flax, everything, cinnamon raisin, plain, etc. Soft, fluffy and airy, these bagels are pretty good if you're into that kinda thing. They're $0.60 each or $7.20 a dozen. That being said, I personally enjoy bagels with a it more chew and texture to them (like Montreal style bagels), but regardless, the carb-monster inside of me made yet another appearance when I picked these up, as I quickly devoured two bagels and an apple turnover. I can certainly see why folks like the bagels, IF they like the soft and fluffy variety. They also toast up pretty well, which adds some good texture to it and is much more down my alley. The apple turnover ($1.15) was good, though the apple filling could have used more cinnamon. They ran out of their $1 pizzas by Friday afternoon, since they're closed on Saturday and don't want to bake more in case they don't sell out that night. Great to know that everything here is fresh! If you do come here, I'd suggest you do not come on a Friday afternoon, as a lot of their bagel varieties and pizzas are sold out. I'm giving it 3 stars mainly because I'm simply not a fan of the softer, fluffier type of bagel, but they're good, all-in-all. Great friendly service, definitely a neighbourhood joint .

Gryfe's may well make the best bagels in Toronto.These are completely unlikely the chewy/sweet Montreal bagel and the brick-style New York bagel. They're very small, very soft, and have a nice crispy crust on the outside, more like rolls than bagels. But they're delicious, especially if you can get them right out of the oven. Get sesame. The kids go crazy for their pizza bagels too. I'm a Montreal bagel partisan but these are highly recommended.

Best bagels ever!!!!! Chewy, light and delish!

Was told to pick up 8 dozen bagels from Gryfe's for a Goodbye Party at work. From the exterior, it looks outdated and a little depressing; however, as soon as I entered the store, I was quickly greeted by the friendly staff. You can see the staff in the back preparing the various bagels. I was second in line at 7:00 AM and within a few minutes, the line extended to the entrance. People really like their bagels! When it was time to pay, I understood why so many people were here... for 8 dozen bagels and 8 tubs of cream cheese, I paid $80. Back at the ranch, I had the sessame bagel with cream cheese ... if it just wasn't so rich with calories! Anyway, it was my Friday treat so guilt bye-bye. Yay, I'm a fan. Remember, cash only.

As a bagel fan, I had to check this place out after seeing it on the Best Bagels lists. The store itself was small and simple and dark. They didn't open any lights and just allowed the natural light from the window to come in. If it weren't for the Best Bagels list, i might have never come into this shop even though I am a Bagel fanatic. In today's day and age, packaging, interior decor, display means everything right? Well, not if you are on every single Bagel List and you've been around long enough to prove that you are the real deal. The verdict on the bagels: they are so fresh and tasty. I bought two dozen and finished two or three on the drive back home. Since they are on the "smaller" side, I wouldn't say I had three bagels at once.. it was more like one and a half? (so I tell myself that) and since it was so fresh and warm, it was really hard to resist. Especially because of all that traffic that hindered me from getting home fast enough so I could have some distance between me and this seducing bag of carbs. Now that I've tried them, I can totally understand why they are on every bagel list in Toronto.

This bakery is fabulous! We got a dozen bagels in a variety of flavours, and a couple of pastries / danishes - one was cheese, the other blueberry. The bagels were delicious just like that with nothing on them! And the pastries were wonderful. I would definitely go back!

Let's make one thing clear. While other posters regularly invoke Montreal in their description of Gryfe's bagels, they are emphatically NOT Montreal bagels. A true carbophile knows that Montreal bagels are small and skinny with large central holes; boiled in honeyed water and baked in a roaring wood oven. They have a unique smoky, sweet flavour, a crisp crust, dense and chewy crumb and a tendency to petrify within minutes of purchase. Like any regional foodstuff, they inspire a loyal following and polarizing reactions from outsiders. Gryfe's may be Toronto's answer to Montreal's St. Viateur and Fairmount Bagel Bakery in producing a regional bagel style. Unlike our own Montreal-style joints, or shameless New York derivatives like Kiva's or Bagel World (both of which are perfectly good if you visit their original locations, hot garbage if you go to a spinoff), Gryfe's bagels exist in a world of their own. They are petite by New York bagel standards, which is good if you don't want to start your day with a a carb-bomb (although you can make up for this by eating two, preferably with lots of butter and salt, or cream cheese and lox, or one of each. I won't judge). Their crust is thin and crisp just out of the oven. The biggest difference lies inside. Gryfe's are uniquely light and fluffy-not in a goyishe wonderbread kind of way, but more in a helpful "here, let me hold this schmear without putting you in a diabetic coma" kind of way. They don't harden immediately into hockey pucks, and don't sit like lead in your gullet afterwards. If you're the type of heathen who toasts your bagel, they stand up well to such abuse. I don't know if they're boiled or not (I suspect not), but they are more than a roll with a hole. They are unique to Toronto and perhaps the world. See? We have our own food culture after all!

this place has the best bagels in city. i'm tempted to say that they're even better than Montreal bagels, but I will say instead that they are a completely different type of bagel, but just as good. these bagels are inexplicably light, and their size makes it so that you can easily polish off, like, 3, in one sitting without noticing. i wish tims would sell these instead of the things they sell in the name of bagels. can't say much about the service. it's a bare bones bagel bakery. they have some packaged accoutrements available, but you're coming here to pick up some fresh bagels and enjoy them at home, or take them to a friend's place if you're a good brunch guest!

The best bagels in the city hands down. lite and fluffy, and packed full of flavour. These bagels are life changing. In a class all on their own. A must try!

Chewy on the outside and soft on the inside and the tastiest of all the bagels I have ever had. These might not be Montreal style bagels but these are the only bagels I enjoy plain, munch on it right out of the bag! Challah buns and onion buns are also excellent, Gryfe's is one of the few bakeries that sell a good onion bun these days, since Open Window Bakery shut down. If you expect to arrive in the afternoon or have a large order, call your order in the day before and it will be ready and waiting for you, otherwise you risk disappointment. Tasty pizza bagels - which are not bagels, but flat discs of bagel dough with sauce and cheese, are a hit with the kiddies since the sauce is a bit sweet. I'm a fan, and always have some in my freezer for bagel and onion bun emergencies!

100 years to get these bagels taste this good. Fresh even until the next day when you pop it in the oven. I was never a fan of bagels until the day my very pushy better half brought me here a decade ago and we never leave here without a dozen. 5am stop overs before a trip to the cottage can secure breakfast for champs with over easy eggs on these carby delights. Oh and a crew of hard working people that work at this joint is the key ingredient to a successful, on time, always fresh brown bag of doughy goods. The place looks like it started as humble beginnings, and then the owners decided to keep it the way it is, so you get decades of history each visit.

Hands down one of the best bakeries I've ever been to. I would die for their pizza bagels. I've never had anything like it. The dough is just so soft and that taste is really unique.

I first tried a Gryfe bagel a few weeks ago from Fiesta Farms as per Matthew S's tip and was totally wowed by it. So much so that anytime my errands take me close to the 401 I'll make sure to get off at Bathurst (only westbound 401 though!) and pick up a dozen. Or two. They are great toasted and are still good toasted even 4 days later! I'll let you know how they fare with freezing. The bagels at Gryfe's are $0.55 each or a dozen for $6.40. At Fiesta they were $1.99 for 3. These bagels are so good it makes me question my love for my 10 month old daughter who just recently mastered chewing solid foods. When she implores me to share with her big brown eyes gazing at the bagel on its way to my mouth and reaches with chubby little hands I do eventually give in, but she never gets the last bite So now the entire family has an expensive bagel habit.

Since returning from Montreal, I've been on a bagel high. Maybe it's the yeast, I'm not quite sure, but I lived off eating fresh bagels from the St. Viateur and Fairmount bakeries when I spent 24 hours in Montreal recently (please read my reviews of both of them) I was introduced to Gryfe's by my mother a few years ago, who came home after shopping and announced to have found authentic Montreal-style bagels. My exposure to bagels were from chains found in food courts at the mall, bagels the size of my head and so heavy that it felt you swallowed a brick. When she showed me these slim and small bagels, I immediately scrunched up my face and said "These aren't REAL bagels." This was an odd thing to say as I grew up in a Jewish neighbourhood. I'm not Jewish but you would think that I would have been more cultured in this ring-shaped wonder. The Gryfe bagels tasted excellent: fresh and light. I could eat two of them and not feel like I wanted to cradle my stomach afterward, crying for mercy. Having now sampled bagels from Gryfe's and in Montreal, my only dilemma is: are there other great bagel places in Toronto? The Jewish neighbourhood lies in North York and north of Toronto so I would have to travel the distance to get some, but ask you, can they deliver? Can they air lift a package to my house? I am jonesing for these babies and I'm not sure if I can quit cold turkey. Or perhaps this might inspire me to locate other bakeries that claim their authenticity in my search for a great bagel.

I generally stick to a low-carb diet, but I'd have to say Gryfe's bagels are my kryptonite. I'm not sure what makes a Gryfe's bagel so magical. Being baked in a wood oven? The sesame seeds? Their funny non-symmetrical shape? Fresh from the oven, they are crispy but oddly light, fluffy, and airy for a bagel. The bakery is always busy but it's worth the wait. I would eat two bagels in the car with nothing on them as if they were potato chips. And yes, I have bought a tub of Western cream cheese in the bakery and I have made my own cream cheese bagel-wiches outside. Even after living in Montreal, there aren't any bagels that can compare to Gryfe's. I prefer to have them from the bakery, but I've picked them up from Daiter's as well. There was actually a Japanese take out place at RBC plaza in the downtown core that sold them. They have mini-pizzas, which are pretty tasty too. Gryfe's is my favourite bagel place in the city. I wish I could have a bagel right now.

These bagels are legit, love the size the exterior is a bit crunchy the inside soft and fluffy and they are so fresh. My go-toos are the plain,multigrain and the everything bagel which is one of their top sellers A few tips get there early and bring cash they don't accept debit

The place showed a lot of promise for a good bagel spot. I got a half dozen and a couple of challah rolls. I would certainly go back for the challah -- delicious. They have a variety of baked goods which appeared to be delicious. In terms of being a good bagel place -- they were more like rolls with holes. If marketed as a roll, I would not have a problem with them -- quite tasty... in fact, I ate two on the way home just straight up [they're also not particularly large]. A bagel is supposed to have a hard exterior with a super chewy interior that, if you so chose, you could ball it up to a mass so dense that if you threw it at your sibling it would prompt at least a complaint to mom or dad. [I promise this never happened during my New Jersey upbringing.] Bagels at this place had neither a particularly resilient exterior, nor a chewy interior. They were too much like a roll. As I said, they are delicious baked goods, but they're not bagels in my opinion or experience. ...and so we soldier on in search of great bagel places in Toronto.

I am not a bagel person. Or at least I wasnt until now. I could never understand NY's obsession with them, when there are perfectly good Pop Tarts and Toaster strudel's or breakfast sandwiches. I was wary when i bit into it, but there was no way he'd let me leave toronto without this right of passage. And just like that I was hooked. It was perfectly crisp on the outside, but so soft and pillowy on the inside- if you are a fan of Kim Kardashian's ass you'll love these- it brought tears of joy to my eyes. This is why Canadian's are so laidback and happy. I will never forsake bagels again. Kellog's deprived me. (tip: go early sunday for the fresh ones to avoid a wait, but they sell their bagels to local cafe's as well, so everybody's happy)

The bagels at Gryfe's are so damn good! It's a unique style of bagel that I've never had outside of Toronto. They're crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and have killer flavour. Totally different then the dense, chewy and salt-free Montreal-style bagels, which I hate by the way. If I can get 'em fresh I'll just eat them straight with no toppings. If they're more than 1/2 a day old, toast them and put on a little butter or cream cheese. Absolutely divine. Lawrence and Bathurst too much of a trek for you? Gryfe's bagels are also sold frozen to various groceries stores throughout the city. For example, Fiesta Farms (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/fiesta-farms-toronto) cooks Gryfe's bagels from frozen each morning. Almost as good as the real thing.

These bagels are light, crispy, chewy and crammed full of yum and deliciousness. I did live closer for a while and had them more often. Now it's quite a trek, but every time I go I'm always glad I did. They do offer a small selection of the standard bagel flavours like poppy seed and such, but my favourite is their plain bagel. The only potential bad part about these bagels? If you only buy 6, you will eat them all before you get home. The other local business owners have been quite annoyed by this place... Once I even saw a "NO BAGEL PARKING" sign on a parking lot for a nearby bank. The lineup on weekends is something to avoid as it often extends halfway down the block.

Love these bagels. I have brought them work events and I consistantly get requests for more. The double seeds are incredible.

Best bagels ever. Period. Hands down. They don't come any better than this. Other than maybe Montreal bagels, these things are the most delicious carbtacular rings of dough you will have taste. The place is pretty bare bones. They sell bagels (several different kinds, I LOVE the poppyseed), sandwhiches (not on the weekends) and drinks and bagel bites (which I haven't had but look tasty). The bagels themselves are like $3 for six, and considering their freshly made on site, you can't really go wrong. For those who love carbs as much as I do, this place is a definite must!

Best bagels in the city! The lines are long on weekends so be prepared to know what you want and how much. Sometimes the lineups go out the door! Fresh, fresh, fresh!! They also sell mini-pizzas and rogalach, "to die for" and on Fridays, best challah in the city. Small selection of bagel accompaniments, lux, cream cheese, orange juice, get it before you make you bagel order. Star watching in line is fun too, never can tell who you'll see.

I went pretty far out of my way to try the bagels here based off YELP reviews. The flavor was very enjoyable, I had both a sesame and Flax seed bagel. Though I enjoyed my bagel, I couldn't help thinking it was more like eating a burger bun than a bagel. Strangely enough, my second bagel I took home actually lasted into the next day! Apparently I should have tried the pizza? I was greeted with, "Hello you want pizza or bagel?" Heads up- They are strictly cash only, this place is a quick run in and run out joint, and they don't shmear your bagels for you on weekends...

Best bagels in the city. I used to love the Montreal style from St Urbaine until I tried a Gryffe's. They are perfect, crisp and light on the outside, soft and moist on the inside, better than any bagel I have ever tried. Not sure what the secret ingredient is, but I was so happy to go to the actual bakery a few months back. I was expecting a big Jewish family to be running it, but it was a large group of Philipino ladies. The girl at the cash was fast and friendly (heck even if she was mean and slow I would be back, they are that good). Got the bag home and felt sad I didn't buy more. Will for sure go back soon.

My grandmother lives down the street from Gryfe's so I have been coming here my entire life, I recently moved to a condo up on Wilson Street. Literally, one of the top 10 reasons for moving to the area was to be close proximity to Gryfe's. It is the best bagel I am aware of in my 30 years on this earth.
