"As the birthplace of Oakland’s food truck movement, Fruitvale remains a destination for tacos, burritos, and chile-dusted mango eaten on the street. Many different trucks could have landed on this list (see John Birdsall’s favorite tacos in Fruitvale), but the trusty truck in the Guadalajara parking lot serves some of the best and most monstrous burritos in the area. (Seriously, the super burrito is the size of at least two normal burritos.) The distribution of ingredients is admirable, and the al pastor gloriously greasy. Both the truck and the adjacent restaurant are open for takeout — just walk up to order." - Luke Tsai, Janelle Bitker

The atmosphere was great. The food was good. The service was good. I was accompanied by my friend, and we went to hear the mariachi band however they weren’t scheduled for that night. I did have a good time. It’s also a very family friendly restaurant.

Love Lovely

Google
Yesterday 6/1/24 night I bought a pastor’s burrito at the taco truck placed outside that obviously belongs to the restaurant AND the burrito had pieces of cardboard mixed with the meat. Terrible experience just dishonest disgusting not recommended at all!! I didn’t went back just because I live far away from Oakland obviously will never ever go back to that taco truck.

Food is always good, service is always slow. My lunch was $13.95 and my dessert was $12.95. Something doesn't seem right about that dessert price in comparison to the cost of my lunch.

Google
Ordered tacos. The waitresses are very nice. They are not stingy with the meat. Will def come back.

Google
Nachos are terrible. Black beans, stale chips, ground beef (I ordered shredded chicken) and sheese. That’s all. For $20. No thanks

Google
Love this place! Super consistent, great menu offerings, good drinks, and a chill atmosphere. Can’t go wrong with almost anything in the menu, and their chips and salsa are great.

Love, love, love the street tacos from the taco truck! Several years ago I lived much closer to Guadalajara, and ate there more frequently. I happened to be visiting friends that live nearby and thought I would stop; the tacos were even better than I had remembered!!!

Went up to Fruitvale station to drop off the chain drive for the Slingport Khyber Accelerator, Toby Twolips and his little stab Attababy were to meet me there for the exchange, and they'll be in charge of getting it to the Livermore Lab. I passed by the Guadalajara Restaurant and planned on getting tacos when I'm done, but where? Only been here 10 minutes and I've seen 3 car get windows smashed and robbed of things, the bandits gave me the eye twice but when I showed them I had big bang and little thumper with me they scooted right away. Toby was right on time and I headed straight to the El Tabasco Taqueria Restaurant for the best tacos in the east bay! ☆☆☆☆☆

Yelp
Great food, service and atmosphere. Waiter and waitress were so attentive to all of our needs. My aunt needed some vinegar and they were able to find some for her.

Zerita D.

Yelp
Took a friend here for lunch. He's a tall guy and the wet burrito was more than enough plus a salad and beer. Very tasty and Waite staff very helpful and good people here. Atmosphere nice buzz. Off street parking a plus.

Amy W.

Yelp
I ordered a tostada with carnitas and corn flautas with shredded beef. Tostada received 5 pt. Flautas only 4 (meat was a bit flavorless). Very pleasant customer service. I usually hit up the truck, but wanted something a little more special. Tostadas remind me of summertime.

Yelp
My go-to restaurant in Fruitvale for classic Mexican faire. Always open, solid menu full of all of the usual suspects. Great pozole, nice drinks, some pretty solid chips and salsa. It's not here to blow your mind, but it delivers on consistency, and the staff is very friendly. Oh and they have a couple TVs if you wanna catch a game during your meal.

Danielle A.

Yelp
I got one drink which was good which is why it's receiving the 2 stars, but the service wasnt great, we had to ask for the bill, the lady that took our order only took one person in our parties order, but the real issue was when the bill came, 400+ dollars. It didnt look right so carefully observing the ticket, they charged us for 7 quesadillas (only 4 of us had the quesadillas) and 7 tequila shots (only 4 of us had shots) the waitress gave an excuse that the computer wasn't working, but after 30 minutes of going back and fourth with her, the bill went from over 400 to 250......

Yelp
First of all, I had to admit that I have only gotten tacos at the taco truck and ordered takeout for delivery so I can't really talk about the service inside the restaurant, but I will tell you that the food is top notch. As a native Californian with Hispanic heritage, and someone who has been eating a lot of Mexican food all of their life, I can tell you that this is very authentic and the real deal. If you are in the mood for classic Mexican - those big platters with generous portions, and some of the best chips and salsa to be had north of Mexico. Their mole is rich with layers of flavor- SO GOOD! The Chile Colorado is succulent and savory. Also, their tortillas are so good. The scent of the freshly steamed masa, when the foil packet is opened is like heaven. It's comforting and feels like home. I love the street tacos from the truck and I am a big fan of their chips and pico de gallo. It's hard to come by good chips and pico de gallo as simple as they seem. The pozole is divine. Everything is very fresh and high-quality! I have never been disappointed. I am always delighted, and I am going to make it a point to actually go sit down in the restaurant and eat.

Melinda W.

Yelp
Real authentic Mexican food. The best refried beans and chilequiles y asada ever!! Not to mention fabulous mango margaritas!!!

Abigail M.

Yelp
This place was alright nothin too crazy. Great employees and no complaints. Very convenient since near my work! Tacos was humongous like its a size of your palm so it's worth the money! Drinks was kind of strong which I appreciated it I needed to wake up somehow! Thank you for the fast service!

Yelp
Grilled fish burrito was nasty af only thing I would recommend here is that red snapper fish

Jason A.

Yelp
I have eaten here on multiple occasions over the years. I would have to say I think my favorite is probably going to be the super burrito off of the food truck to believe it or not. The service inside is amazing. They're very quick to respond. They never leave you wanting to flag them down. And after the remodel that happened, maybe about a year and a half ago the ambience is really nice too.

Waynr Z.

Yelp
You can either eat inside the restaurant or get to-go at the taco truck. If you order at the taco truck, you'll have to go inside to pay. Friendly staff and you get a bunch of extras like big radish chunks, peppers, carrots and salsa with your order

Dward O.

Yelp
Former favorite for the combination of fair quality at a reasonable price. However, prices have more than doubled in the past two years, while quality has not improved, so I am no longer going to visit this restaurant. Unfortunately for the servers, who are generally nice and attentive, the tips are smaller now that price soared. Quality of the service did not increase to keep pace with the price of a burrito, so I have trouble justifying a 20% tip like I used to give.

Terry P.

Yelp
The food is good and the service was great and the ambience is pretty cool relaxing so stop by and try out some of there dishes.

Mrs. S.

Yelp
Went earlier today to the taco truck and asked for a chile verde taco and a cabeza taco I got a rice and bean taco instead of a chile verde taco. I was really upset because I was starving next time I'll check my food before leaving. ( the cabeza taco was good was craving chile verde though ) Took a little long to get my food even though there were only 2 people ahead of me .

Antonio J.

Yelp
Voice was good. Amazing but the food wasn't. I hated my super burrito. Nothing super about it. It was dry as hell. I know a Mexican place on 35th and E14 that's way better than this place. And it's cheaper. It's not even about the price it's about the quality. Never coming here again. No salt on the fries. No salt given to us. I'm ok. Definitely rated a 1 for food quality. The service was a 5 . I can't blame everyone just the quality of food was not up to par for the price they wanted. Ambiance was nice and cultural.

Alvaro R.

Yelp
Still as good as I remember. I ordered the steak fajitas plate and it was superb. Taste was great and fajitas were flavorful and not dry.

Denise B.

Yelp
menudo is very slimy. They always slip bones in it even when asked not to do so. We have tried it six times and we have been disappointed every time.

Rayleen W.

Yelp
This is a large restaurant, capable of serving big groups. On my visit, I dined alone. The service was prompt and my server checked in multiple times throughout my visit. I ordered a veggie taco and a hot chocolate. My drink was hot and toasty. On the taco, the hot vegetables were cooked well and the cold veggies were crisp. The salsa was spicy and the tortilla chips were fresh. Great dining experience!

Stephanie J.

Yelp
I had a taste for Tamales went here for them for the first time and they were very good! They were a little different than the tamales that I've had. It came with three and was cooked in red sauce with a sprinkle of cheese on top. A lot of flavor and meat was very good! Came with chips . Try it!

Tara M.

Yelp
I'm really disappointed. I had a long day and decided to treat myself to some nachos. Instead of going to my usual spot I came here because my son loves their burritos. I placed a to-go order and the server said it would be about 10 minutes. I was waiting, not realizing the time, but when I saw other people getting their orders who came after me, I began to wonder what was going on. Several servers passed me but didn't ask me anything. I noticed a bag sitting by the kitchen and wondered if it were mine. Before I could get someone's attention, a server came up after 30 minutes passed and asked me what I ordered. When I told him he went to the area by the kitchen and picked up the bag that had been sitting there and gave it to me. I told him that was sitting there for a while and he apologized. Part of me wanted to ask that they make me another order but I was so frustrated and hungry I just left. Something told me to check my order but I was just too tired. I live pretty close but when I got home and looked, the cheese was hard and my food was barely warm. They also forgot my jalapeños, which I ordered with the nachos. The food was barely edible. If I weren't so tired I would've brought the food back and asked for a refund. Instead, I just tossed most of it in the city compost. Now I'm out $20 and very disappointed. Maybe this was just a bad day, maybe just bad service. They weren't that busy. I'm so frustrated right now I likely won't be back.

Yelp
If you stay in the Bay, everyone would go to this place for some good tacos. Especially for those late night cravings. If not, maybe have tried it at least once. Been here multiple times over the years, mainly for their tacos and burritos. This used to be the best taco truck in the town! The tacos are pretty tiny but they were piled with a lot of meat and everything else. Each bite into them, everything on the tacos would just fall onto your plate since there was just so much piled on. It used to be so flavorful. The tacos now are just not the same as they used to be. The tacos are now bland, while certain bites are salty. Maybe it wasn't mixed properly? For something to be bland and inconsistent, they're pretty overpriced. If you order too much, I feel they get overwhelmed and orders could get mixed up or some items would be missing. Be sure to check your order before you walk off!

Michele S.

Yelp
This is literally my top favorite Mexican restaurant in the East Bay! Over the years I've both visited the restaurant and ordered via DoorDash -- I've not ever been disappointed. Everything is super flavorful, from their inexpensive lunch specials to breakfast and dinner options. I love the chilequilles and enchiladas, the red sauce is addicting. And not to be overlooked are both the really special rice and the creamy refried beans ah-mazing! They have great Margaritas and other Mexican cocktails too, if you are so inclined, but they also have tasty agua frescas.

Chance M.

Yelp
East bay burrito review #4 Initial taste 5/7 Meat 4/7 Rice 4/7 Beans 5/7 Cheese 4/7 Salsa 3/7 Tortilla 5/7 Overall 4/7 (rounded down) I will not hide the fact that I believe the Guadalajara truck to be among the tops in the bay. One might assume,l the restaurant would make basically the same burrito, but like me, you'd be disappointed. Some of the flavors are there, and it was a tasty burrito, but they apparently they put their to go burritos in a take out container and not in foil. Therefore the eating experience was lacking. The other minor thing was that pico de gallo cools a burrito down a bit too much for me.

Kioko Asia P.

Yelp
Great service and good food ! Best place to get some drinks and great dinner. Affordable.

Audrey M.

Yelp
Authentic, delicious Mexican food! We came here with our family on a Saturday around lunch time and were greeted and seated immediately. The first thing I noticed was that the walls have a lot of really beautiful unique artwork. I went with the cheese enchiladas verde with jicama agua fresa and both were delicious. The service was also great - they were super friendly and attentive. We'll definitely be back!

C P.

Yelp
The tamale and the sauce that came with it had a cinammon taste - odd and made the whole dish horrible, the chile relleno burrito was below average, the rice below average, the salsa yuck. Not sure why anyone would come here, there are many restaurants that are much better but service was very good but none of my taste buds were happy at all.

Michael S.

Yelp
DO NOT ORDER FOOD HERE IF DOORDASH IS GOING TO DELIVER IT. They will lose or fuck up your order, and then refuse a refund. Order from another restaurant.

Alleona E.

Yelp
in my opinion, the best mexican restaurant in town and the taco truck is not to be slept on as well! They have good prices and a lot of meat on everything they serve. I love coming here!

Monika C.

Yelp
I feel as though they are wayyyy overpriced. I did enjoy the shrimp taco but at $7 each, I will pass. I like their taco truck better.

Ladi H.

Yelp
So what is good here? Looking around the large dining room filled with a diverse crowd of Oaklanders (so I suspect). Almost every table has a Pescado Frito (whole fried fish) served with rice, refried beans, fresh salad & tortillas. On the side are Buttery Garlic sauce and Diablo sauce (more flavor then heat). I share this with my partner but most eat the entire thing. The fish is so crispy but when you break off a piece it is tender and flaky. I like to pick at the all the hidden spots of the carcass. It was busy on a Saturday night and the waitstaff really hustle but are kind and accommodating.

T D.

Yelp
My new go-to for Mexican food. I had one of the best combination fajita sizzling platters. Many places just give you a whole bunch of onions but this place is fair with beef, chicken and shrimp and I actually wanted more veggies. The salsa here was so tasty, I finished the whole bowl. My only complaint is how they spray and wipe down tables.

Kendra F.

Yelp
I've been coming here since I moved to the bay six years ago. I'm glad to see they're still doing good during Covid. Since moving out of Oakland, I haven't come here much but earlier this week was an exception. I ordered the carne asada super burrito with everything except sour cream. Sour cream and I are like oil and water, so I'm glad they didn't include it. This burrito is everything to me with the sour cream. If you're not lactose intolerant, get the sour cream. Your heart will learn this burrito has always been it's true desire. This burrito can be split, and each person may still have some of it leftover. Pay in cash at the truck. Pay with a debit card inside if you ordered from the truck but don't have cash.

Darius W.

Yelp
Late night taco run. We've all been there. Late night munchies or just a craving for something easy and savory! After riding around for 40 minutes, trying to avoid The Bell, I found this place open after 10pm. The tacos were solid, nothing worth spilling on my keyboard when late night lesson-planning. I appreciate this place's availability, especially in my time of need, more like time of procrastination. Plus, the variety and meat portions made my stomach smile and my mouth hungry. Well, I now have a late night friend, thank you!

Dawn L.

Yelp
Love the Mexican food! They have an awesome Mexican food lunch special which includes a soda. The bar is stocked with low to mid grade liquor. Love the chips and salsa every time! The American type of food is... not worth paying for... There a lot of seating and a lot of nice servers. Once in a while the service is slow, but usually great!!! I recommend paying by card, as I've had issues with receiving the right change (if your in a rush). I like this place for a happy hour hang out or a lunch place! There is parking.. The restrooms are questionably clean and don't have a baby change station.

Yelp
Someone recommended it and we drive by it all the time. On a solo night I gave it a try. Somebody said "Mexican soil" and yes, this food is authentic for the region of Guadalajara. Had green enchiladas with carnitas and it was meat rolled in a tortilla, X2. Authentic, not Tex Mex with cheese all over it. Great carnitas and the real deal - not roast pork somebody wants to CALL carnitas. Lots of families, generous portions. One boy at the next table had half a burger left and it was huge. The bad - not so bad - table salsa was tasty but tame. Beans and rice didn't say anything at all, just were there on the plate. Green sauce was sparse, which is authentic again. Kind of strange, actually. Never had a sauce quite like it. Pricey - $30 for 2 enchiladas and one XX amber. It's a fine place but not really going to replace our usual Mexican places near to it.

Lewis B.

Yelp
BIGGEST BURRITO I've seen in Oakland. Correct me if I'm wrong. That single super burrito will feed you for 3 days. They also hook you up with a generous amount of salsas and veggies. Highly recommend!!

Tim D.

Yelp
This spot is officially Mexican soil. Like entering an Embassy either as a Mexican citizen or welcomed Guest Guadalajara holds it down. Legit bar if that's your thing, no limit either round these parts. Food excellent, fresh, and served hot as in temperature.

Kang F.

Yelp
Food is good when I'm with certain people the server comes quick to take our order when I come by myself they take forever to take my order been waiting for almost 45 minutes just for them to take my order.

Carmen C.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. I have been driving by it the past 5yrs but had not had the opportunity to stop in. Walked in and was impressed with the full bar and how quickly we were attended to. I ordered the Chili Relleno. Not impressed at all. No flavor what so ever and there was more breading than Chili. Wasn't able to order a drink as it was a working lunch. The place was full so I will come back another time to order something different and a cocktail or two ..hehe

Monise B.

Yelp
We met here for a birthday party! It was a party of 8 . I had the enchiladas dinner which was ok. I order appetizers and a drink. Everyone else had tacos , tostadas and a house margarita. When it was time to pay. Evarado the cashier explained they do not do separate checks but he was making an exception. Everyone need to pay 52 each. I explained I will like to pay for four people ($215). He charged the whole bill to my card and told me to collect the money from the people in the party . I was furious! So please be aware of this restaurant. They are not trustworthy .I asked for the manager name he refused to give me his information.

George A. M.

Yelp
Horrible service, I've been coming here since I was little but after this visit I don't think I'll ever return. We arrived during a busy hour, understandably, the staff would have a lot on their hands. Originally we sat by the door, but since it was cold and the breeze kept hitting us whenever someone came in we decided to move our seats away from it. Keep in mind, this was literally like five minutes after we ordered our food. We sat at our new seating for a while, eventually we asked the waitress if she could bring us a drink they forgot to bring because they had brought us our other drinks, but she said they had cancelled our order. She said they cancelled it because we hadn't told them we were moving and she thought we left, understandably we should have, but her response was complete BS. How could they have cancelled our order, but have still brought us the drinks? We received our drinks after about eighteen minutes from we had ordered but we had moved after about five minutes initially. If they cancelled the order when we moved, why would they have brought us our drinks? The lady said she supposedly hadn't seen us even though she had passed us several times, which I find to be a lie since my sister was wearing a bright red rain jacket. We were upset of course, so we asked for the bill for the drinks and as we stood to leave the woman brought us plates of our food. Didn't you just say you had cancelled our order woman? She had also said earlier that the food would take a while since it was a busy hour. If they had canceled our ninety dollar order that must have taken them at least twenty minutes to make, why would they have continued to make it if they had canceled it about five minutes from when we got up to move? The woman is a pathological liar I swear, and tried to play dumb like she didn't understand us when we spoke to her in English in the end(we are a native Spanish speaking family) even thought earlier she had spoken to me specifically in English. Fucking bitch ruined our experience, were we were supposed to be celebrating my mother's birthday. I've come here for years, for casual dinners and special occasions like my own birthdays and such, but we'll never come after this again, was planning to come here for my HS graduation but after this disappointing service I'll never.

Patricia J.

Yelp
Good food, my favorite selection is the nachos. Lots of food & satisfying. I patronize them on a regular basis. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Alan L.

Yelp
They closed off the bart parking, so during peak hours it's going to be hard to park in the lot. Truck has been the same, flavor wise, for the past 2 decades plus, but man has inflation been killer. Prices gone up and burritos got smaller. $12-15 used to get you a super burrito which is now just a regular. I would think they do enough volume to justify keeping the value, but it's just not there anymore. Food wise, flavor is still there, meat skimping some, but at least they still giving extra hot sauce and jalapenos. There definitely are other spots for a better burrito, but if you're in this area and there is parking, Guad is decent.

Bunnie U.

Yelp
I'm disabled so I order togo from my car and every time I order from here they get it WRONG I previously enjoyed the food but I have them another chance but I will not be going back

Christina B.

Yelp
Foods expensive very pricey I order super burrito and it came with a very little bit guacamole Very disappointment wasn't what I expected

Tough C.

Yelp
The food is pretty good. The prices are also pretty reasonable. This place is a staple and most folks working there are friendly and accommodating, however there are exceptions--There are a few young guys who intentionally ignore long time customers. A friend and I watched one of these guys ridicule an elderly customer after they took their order. Seriously? Are you that rude or high? This is very bad for business practice for Guadalajara, especially with a pandemic, inflation and social media. Get it together.

Ultima M.

Yelp
I have been to the taco truck a few times, the tacos are very authentic and always full of flavor. This is the only place in Oakland where I have tried Lengua and OMG it sooo good. I love burritos of luenga but I have never ventured to try it outside of my aunts kitchen before until this place and I was not disappointed. The restaurant also serves authentic mexican food. Portions are pretty big, the house salsa is BOMB love it. Prices are very reasonable and service is fast and friendly. There is a mariachi band walking around offering to play songs for you and a few flower vendors also walk through on occasion. Parking can be hard as they have a very small parking lot only one way in and one way out. Can be hard when you drive a big truck...

Alizia G.

Yelp
One of Oakland's FINEST! We've been coming here for decades: and, Guadalajara has always kept their food ON POINT! Ambiance is chill and authentically Oakland. Meaning, everyone is there! If you are looking for Mexican food in Oakland, Guadalajara is a MUST VISIT!

mordecai r.

Yelp
Over priced lol 10buck for rice and beans no lie.... I was going to tuck outside for 5bucks lol

Justin R.

Yelp
Had the pleasure of dining here twice. Really large establishment, with plenty of seating, great for large groups, limited onsite free parking and close to BART and the freeway. Pros: -Really large plates. Enjoyed the enchilada combo. Came w/ a large group w/ out a reservation and we were still seated immediately. Cons: -Not the best service. Certainly not because of their attitudes. The waiters and waitresses are just a little inept and lack basic service skills.
