This legendary gudeg restaurant in Yogyakarta is a must-visit for both tourists and locals alike. Located conveniently near Malioboro Street, it’s easy to find and well worth the early wake-up. Despite opening at 6 AM, the queue starts forming even earlier — I arrived at 5:50 AM and still had to wait around 30 minutes. That alone speaks volumes about its popularity and the loyal following it has built over the years.
The menu offers a variety of traditional options, including bacem, ayam suwir, pindang, and many other flavorful dishes that perfectly capture the essence of Javanese cuisine. For those dining in, they generously serve free hot tea, which pairs wonderfully with the rich, sweet-savory taste of the gudeg. Whether you’re starting your day with a hearty local breakfast or simply want to experience authentic Jogja flavors, this iconic spot delivers in both taste and atmosphere.
