Yelp
Located at the busy corner of two arterial streets - 19th Avenue at Taraval in the Outer Sunset, this cozy and restful eatery is literally the calm eye in the middle of the storm of traffic swirling around it.
Here you will find excellent hand-pulled rice noodles, tasty sweet n savory fried chicken wings, and what I believe are the best onion pancakes ever-- at least to me.. The servers here are attentive, friendly, yet unobtrusive and only a hand wave away if you need anything.
To get here, I typically find parking around the corner on 20th Avenue mid block, where there aren't any parking meters, and walk up, or take the Muni bus (Line 28, or L-bus), or other means.
Once inside, you'll find 3-4 booths along the inside wall, tables with seating in the middle and more seating along the huge picture windows facing busy 19th Avenue. Once settled in, you are presented with a hardback menu full of large pictures of the various dishes available. This is a casual, no-frills, but nice enough kind of place.
I've been here several times now, and honestly, our family has been hooked on this place. My staples here are the Braised pork belly Noodle Soup, The Pork Belly portion is several chunks and definitely enough to go with my noodles. All were tender and well balanced between fatty and leaner layers.
The rice noodles are thick with a cross section somewhere between spaghetti and udon. The broth is light, and you also get enoki mushrooms in this and peanuts - Peanut allergies beware!
Making the perfect accompaniment to the broth with my rice noodles are the onion pancakes we ordered. These onion pancakes are thicker than most, with a nice crunchy outer layer that seems practically deep-fried. I'd say these are my favorite onion pancakes from anywhere. Take a sip of soup, a bite of onion pancake, and repeat until full! :)
Appetizers we have tried include the following:
A12 - Original Dry Fried Chicken Wings:
You get fresh from the fryer deep fried and coated in a sweet, tangy and slightly spicy sauce. Once you get past the crunchy outer skin, yummy savory meat awaits once you get your teeth inside. It reminds me strongly of the famous wings from another restaurant across town, but without the wait.
A5 - Cucumber Salad with Minced Garlic in light vinegar:
A good light tasty complement to the heavier dishes on our order..
E1 - Spicy Salted Spare Ribs Rice Plate:
In the rare event that I'm not in the mood for soup on the typically cold days of summer out here, I go for item E1 on the menu - their Spicy Salted Spareribs Rice Plate. As its name implies, this is basically deep fried mini portions of bone-in pork cutlet in a salt and pepper infused light batter, garnished by a few tiny slices of Jalapeño peppers. To make things "healthy" you do get a side of Chinese veggies to go with it and the rice, of course.
The bathroom is clean too, always a good sign!
Yeah.. we come here all the time! And no, this ain't a plug by some bogus reviewer.. We just like the food here plenty!
