Gula Indonesian Desserts

This is a late review but the holidays got me. :-) Gula was such a refreshing and unexpected find. Specializing in Indonesian sweets, it offers something truly different from the usual dessert spots in the neighborhood. If Indonesian desserts are new to you, this place is absolutely worth seeking out — it feels like discovering a whole new dessert culture right here in Atlanta. What really sets Gula apart is its genuinely unique menu, showcasing tropical and Indonesian flavors you don’t often see elsewhere. The desserts strike the perfect balance of sweetness — flavorful and comforting without being overwhelming. The ambience is calm, quiet, and inviting, making it an ideal place to relax and enjoy dessert. There’s a good amount of seating, the space felt wheelchair-accessible, and it also seemed very kid-friendly. It truly feels like a welcoming “third space” — somewhere you can linger comfortably. The variety of desserts is impressive, and everything we tried was thoughtfully prepared. One of my favorites was a beautifully refreshing dessert featuring silky glass noodles paired with tropical fruits — light, satisfying, and incredibly well balanced. Service was just as memorable as the food. Emma, August and Gloria were warm, welcoming, and a joy to chat with, which made the experience even better. My lady and I strongly recommend visiting at least once for the experience — especially if you enjoy tropical flavors, unique desserts, or are looking for a relaxed tea and dessert spot without luxury pricing. They’ve also introduced a tea time service, and I’m very much looking forward to trying it alongside their delicious treats.

My family came for the afternoon tea and had the absolute best experience! We all would strongly recommend Gula’s to anyone looking to try some yummy Indonesian cuisine. Everything really was so amazingly tasty and we all loved our tea choices. The presentation of everything was also very beautiful. We had an amazing time! It was also great to hear from the shop owner about the love and care her and her mom put into curating the offerings and making everything. I think if I understood correctly, three generations of women from their family are responsible for running Gula’s and making it such a special and amazing place! We will definitely be back to try more delicious drinks and desserts!

We had a great experience here! There were 19 options for tea selection and the desserts were super yummy! Very impressed with their desserts that were Fresh, delicious, well balanced with Indonesian flavor. So good! The place was also very elegant and relaxing and the owners were so nice and attentive. 3 generations of women made this dream came true.

Overall Gula was an interesting and refreshing find. They specialize in Indonesian sweets, and it was fun to discover a different kind of dessert third space in the neighborhood. If you’ve never tried Indonesian desserts, this is absolutely worth a visit. What makes it unique The menu felt genuinely different from the usual Asian dessert spots. Lots of tropical and Indonesian flavors like: • Pandan • Black glutinous rice • Durian • Passion fruit • Lychee and other tropical fruit drinks and desserts Tea party set and value They recently started a tea party set that looked amazing for about $50 (around $48 per person depending on how it’s listed). For comparison, a similar experience we saw in Victoria was $109 per person (Canadian dollars), so this felt like a strong value for the experience. Flavor highlights • Pandan squeeze or pandan paste: a standout. It reminded me of ube, and honestly sometimes it tasted even better than ube. • Black glutinous rice: really enjoyable, though sweeter than my personal preference. That said, compared to many US desserts, it still felt relatively not too sweet, which was refreshing. Important note about coloring A lot of the desserts use artificial coloring. If artificial coloring puts you off (same for me), you may not love every item visually or conceptually. But if you can look past that, the flavors are still worth exploring. Ambience and seating The ambience is very quiet, calm, and pleasant. There’s a decent amount of seating, and the space felt like it had enough room for a wheelchair. It also seemed kid friendly. Would I recommend it? Yes. Strongly recommend going at least once for the experience and to try Indonesian desserts, especially if you like pandan, tropical fruit flavors, or want a fun tea set without luxury pricing.

Stumbled across a post for Gula’s afternoon tea and decided to try it out because it looked gorgeous. Not only was it beautiful, but it was absolutely delicious and very filling! They let you smell the teas they offer so you can be sure of your decision too, which was super helpful! The staff was very friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Absolutely recommend this place!

We booked the afternoon tea last minute and they were so kind to squeeze us in! It’s such a beautiful space and a wonderful family-run business. The food and tea were amazing! The highlight is definitely the savories. It is such a creative spin on afternoon tea. Highly recommend!

We had a lovely experience at Gula. I am Indonesian so I might be biased since I miss my home and have been craving these desserts so much! We ordered es teler, tempe mendoan, and tahu gejrot. Es teler: quite sweet, I wish I asked for less sugar but I always feel like everything is too sweet here 😅 so I guess it will be just fine for others. Maybe you can ask to get the condense milk on the side if you are also like me. Tahu gejrot: surprisingly spicy and taste authentic, so if you don’t like spicy food make sure to let them know. Tempe mendoan: i wish it is less crispy and thick, but I understand that it’s hard to find a good tempe here. Will love to come back one day!

We stumbled upon Gula Indonesian Desserts while traveling from California on a work trip, and what a delightful surprise it was! The desserts instantly transported us back home. Authentic, comforting, and absolutely delicious. The owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the experience even more special. You can feel the love and care in every bite. If you’re craving dessert or just want to try something unique and heartwarming, this place is a must-visit. We will definitely be back next time when we are in Atlanta.

Came here as a stop on a road trip and it was so delicious! My daughters and I shared a couple of the desserts and we thoroughly enjoyed trying them! The owners are super sweet and checked on us to make sure we liked everything- we will be back!!

I LOVED the experience here. The desserts were well made and you could tell the love put into every dish. The customer service was the best part! Everyone was so helpful explaining each dish and were very kind! Would recommend this pace to everyone!!

The dessert was incredible and the owners are so so kind- eager to answer any questions we had about things we were unfamiliar with and were so friendly!! And the two desserts we tried were delicious!! I highly recommend!!

Gula Indonesia Desserts is as the name states: an Indonesian dessert spot! It is located in a plaza on Buford Highway, so it is in a great location for all things food. The interior is a bit small with some seating here and there, but it is aesthetically decorated with lots of earthy tones. The service is quick as well. We got the Dirty Matcha Latte and Es Campur. I liked the Es Campur as it tasted very familiar to me, kind of like a variation of Southeast Asian desserts such as the halo-halo and chè thái. It is a very refreshing and sweet dessert, although I probably could have done without the avocado topped inside. I would come back to try their other desserts and drinks!

Never had an Indonesian dessert place in ATL! Gula just opened about 3 weeks ago and replaced the old mango mango dessert place. We ordered Es Cendol and Bubar Campur. It was so unique and delicious. The Es Cendol was made of Palm sugar, coconut milk and then rice flour jelly. It tastes very similar to coffee but yet there's no coffee in there! It mixes very well with the pandan rice flour jelly. The Bubar Campur was great as well! With black sticky rice, pandan custard, sweet potato ball, taro ball. The combinations work really well and it was a flavorful combination. Will definitely come back

I was so excited to try authentic Indonesian desserts, and Gula definitely exceeded my expectations! The Es Campur was the fruit forward dessert that I have always loved while traveling in Asia. I have a friend from Bali, who said this is a very typical dessert there. The fruit on top of a rose ice was just perfect! My face was fully frozen by the time I finished it, but I could not put down my spoon! The staff were friendly and clearly excited that the place was packed so quickly. I will prob go back on a weeknight so it's not so busy bc word is definitely out about it!

Not too shabby. The 'durian crushed ice' was pretty good. I gave 3 stars cos they could have given more crushed ice. We grow up eating this , so the volume of ice needs to be more for a more complete experience of eating this dessert, if that makes sense .

I was NOT ready for this aesthetic cafe filled with delicious and beautiful desserts. This is Gula, the FIRST Indonesian dessert café in Georgia, and their soft opening is already changing the game. Think refreshing tropical treats you've never had before--like shaved ice covered in fruit and avocado, rich carmelized palm sugar and coconut drinks. Cendol, silky pandan jelly in icy palm sugar syrup, and shaved ice creations that taste like a vacation in Bali. It's sweet, it's cold, it's vibrant, and it's a flavor journey you can't get anywhere else. I'm obsessed. Amazing service also.

We were eating at Bobo Garden and saw that this place had just opened! It's a cute interior and the folks working are really nice. They also own IndoEats, the indonesian grocery store a few doors down. We tried the Cendol, which was great! We love the flavors and hope that this place can grow!

As I was walking past to get to another restaurant, Gula's sign caught my eye. As an Indonesian-American, I rarely see anything written in Indonesian out in the wild! So of course, I had to wander inside. What a sight to see in the U.S.! All my favorite desserts available! I ordered Es Cendol and it brought back so many sweet memories of being in Indonesia with my loved ones. That's the true power of delicious food! The cafe was so adorable and the staff were kind and attentive too. Would recommend -- for Indonesians looking for a slice of the islands, or newcomers to our culture!

Super aesthetic and cute spot! I got the cendol drink. It was soo good and fragrant. The pandan jelly was so fragrant and had a good texture to it. The palm sugar and coconut milk was such a good mix. Would definitely come back to try with durian. This drink was super filling as well. Will definitely be back and can't wait for the full menu.

This is my second visit @Gula. I love every bite. This time I brought a friend with me to try their desserts. Surprisingly, the owner "daughter" remembers my face. We both love our dish. "Es durian & es doger" not too sweet. This place becomes one of favorite place to stop by.

We got the Es Campur and the Es Buah -- both so delicious. Everything we saw on other people's tables also looked amazing. The cashier was very friendly and accommodating. It was a great experience and I highly recommend to anyone interested in Indonesian desserts! Had not tried anything like it before and have 0 regrets!

What a delightfully cozy and unique, family-run Indonesian café, located right on Buford Highway. This spot is perfect for both relaxing and studying (comfy seats, plugs and WiFi). The soothing music and the friendly staff make you feel instantly at home. The array of authentic Indonesian snacks and beverages will delight and surprise your tastebuds. I give this place my fullest recommendation. Make sure you stop by soon!

Was thirsty and walked into this new gem. I got the ES Kelapa Komplit drink. It was refreshing and delicious. I love the panda flavor and coconut. Will come back again to try more flavors!

Hands down, maybe the worst tasting pungent food I've ever tried. And super pricey for the size and disgusting taste. We threw out most of it because it was just inedible. I've been to Thailand, and they use similar ingredients in their desserts there and none of it ever tasted even remotely as bad as this place. In fact quite the opposite! What can I say...just the usual deception by SPONSORED TikTok influencers smh. People should start suing these fools for false/misleading advertising at this point. Somehow every single thing was unappetizing and we ordered like the five most popular dishes/drinks. So there is no mistaking it. And I guarantee you that no way on earth anyone liked this shi..stuff. Sorry, I refuse to believe otherwise. Yuck! Especially that nasty Indonesian fruit salad (rujak buah) that smelled so bad we all almost gagged. Apparently they use FISH SAUCE in it! Ewww! Imagine you order a bunch of fruits and then pour smelly fish sauce on top...and to not even mention that on the menu, that's just unacceptable! They write the description like it's a "sweet and spicy peanut tamarind sauce" fruit salad, so initially it seems edible, but they fail to mention the fish sauce to trick people into buying it. And to add insult to injury it was 10 dollars for a bunch of smelly cheap fruits...like wtf? Let me tell you it smelled HORRENDOUS. Like the smell when you open a garbage lid to take out the trash kind of bad. We couldn't take a single bite. And when we asked why they didn't mention this on the menu, they never acknowledged their mistake or even cared. Trash food and service. Don't trust TikTok y'all. Money down the drain with this one...
