The MICHELIN Guide Kuala Lumpur & Penang 2026 Bib Gourmand Selection

"Located in the lively Plaza Damansara, I found this Peranakan spot notable for its refined take on cherished family recipes, with home-style dishes prepared from fresh local produce and house-made sauces crafted by the owner; the creamy basil boneless chicken is a standout — tender, velvety meat enveloped in a rich, herb-forward sauce — and alfresco dining is pleasant on warm, breezy evenings." - The MICHELIN Guide

A lovely little Nyonya spot with truly comforting flavours. The food was yummy overall, with the brinjal sambal being absolutely brilliant—easily a standout. The creamy chicken basil was another star, rich and satisfying. We also ordered the paku garlic, which we loved for its simplicity and how fulfilling it was.The venison ginger was slightly salty for my taste, though my husband really enjoyed it—so it may just come down to personal preference. The place itself is small but cosy, making it suitable for families, friends, and small gatherings. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the food was served promptly. Definitely our go-to dinner spot within the neighbourhood!

First time here and got the thumbs up from my whole family. Everything was delicious and ingredients were very fresh. Only improvement would be the onions are not as well cooked as I would prefer especially on the paku lemak. Would have been better if it was cooked together with the lemak for a softer sweeter taste. But this could be a personal taste

Gulainya impress us with their authentic flavours and beautifully balanced dishes. The Gulai Tumis Pari is outstanding, rich, tangy, and fragrant, easily one of the best versions around. The Pandan Chicken is juicy with a lovely aroma, perfectly wrapped and well-seasoned. The surprise highlight was the Venison with Ginger, tender, clean-tasting and cooked just right, with the ginger giving a warm, comforting lift. A fantastic spot for bold, traditional flavours done exceptionally well. Highly recommended!

Visited Gulainya, the newly minted Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant in Damansara. The space is lovely — simple, modern decor with subtle Asian and Peranakan touches — but unfortunately, the food didn’t wow us and fell short of what I would have expected from a Michelin Bib Gourmand. We were expecting a showcase of Peranakan flavours, but the dishes unfortunately did not do justice. The Creamy Basil Chicken (fried chicken in creamy basil sauce) was soggy, and the basil flavour was weak — it didn’t resemble green curry or deliver the punch we were expecting. The Gulai Tumis Ikan was okay and the signature egg was enjoyable. Overall, while the potential is there, it didn’t wow us this visit.

Overall food tasted nice. Egg cencalok was a bit of a let down because can't taste the cencalok. Asam squid and the gulai vege was the start. Lime prawns was ok, nothinf fantastic. The sago dessert was below average. Overall not a bad place place. Hit and miss dishes.

Sister place of little yum yum at kd. Food generally taste better at kd. And But price is much higher than kd. When i ask the manager. She can only say due to location, nicer ambient/environment. Here is to cater to affluent people. Menu have slight addition but generally same with little yum yum. except for price. Better to go little yum yum.

If you’re craving truly authentic Malaysian comfort food, this restaurant is a must-visit. Their Gulai Tumis is nothing short of perfection — rich, tangy, and beautifully aromatic. The fish is cooked just right, tender and fresh, absorbing every layer of the spicy-sour gravy. It’s the kind of dish that makes you reach for another spoon of rice before you even realize it. The Kangkung Belacan is another standout. Smoky, slightly spicy, and perfectly balanced with the unmistakable aroma of good belacan — it’s simple yet deeply satisfying. The wok hei adds that extra depth only a skilled cook can achieve. What makes this place special is how everything tastes home-cooked, yet refined. You can feel the love and tradition behind every plate. If you appreciate bold, honest flavours done right, this is the spot.

A decent Peranakan restaurant that offers good enough Nyonya dishes in the Klang Valley. The decor was simple and modern with Asian accents here and there. Our favourite fish was the Gulai sliced fish. The fish was fresh with its sauce bursting with assam tartness and spiciness. Likewise the prawns from the pineapple curry prawn were extremely fresh. Personally, I found the sauces a tad sweet but most Malaysians would be OK. Both the gulais came with more than the usual ingredients - eg onions, four-angle beans. The Large sized paku lemak was generous but the sauce lacked a certain oomph. Cincalok telur and perut ikan were average. Do save a bit of space for dessert! They serve up desserts with one of the best gula Melaka syrup in KL. The sago and chendol were ordinary but the superior gula Melaka brings a fitting end to a decent lunch. While the food served here do not quite hit the heights of those served by the very best in Melaka and Penang, it was a commendable effort. Worth checking out if you fancy Peranakan food.
