Best Restaurant Dishes Eater NY Editors Ate This Week, July 28, 2025 | Eater NY

"A restaurant with a bar hidden behind it that’s now serving Taiwanese breakfast until 11:30 a.m. daily; there was a bit of a wait when we went on Sunday (arrive on the earlier side to avoid anything being sold out), but the food was fantastic. The egg crepe ($7.50, called a Taiwanese omelet on the menu) is a layer of egg atop a thin dough, wrapped around pork floss and a hash brown, with the lovely addition of bright corn kernels. And the packaged sandwiches ($6.50), available with pork floss or tun, are fantastic grab-and-go options, holding up hours later." - Nat Belkov

The Best New Restaurant Openings in NYC, May 2023 | Eater NY

"Conceived as a Taiwanese breakfast place, this Long Island City operation opened initially with bar-food takeout while planning to roll out breakfast staples like soy milk, you tiao, fan tuan, and lu ro fan once the kitchen is fully online." - Emma Orlow

Taiwanese Restaurant Gulp and Speakeasy 929 Have Opened in Long Island City | Eater NY

"At the storefront at 42-45 27th Street I found a no-frills, fluorescent-lit Taiwanese takeout counter called Gulp that supplies all the food to the cocktail bar in the back and currently offers only takeout while waiting for the gas to be turned on. Co-owned by William Guo and Haoran Chen with Jeff Liu spearheading the project, Gulp is running a limited menu of Taiwanese bar fare: popcorn chicken is served as part of a fried platter alongside enoki mushrooms and tofu skin; a braised platter seasons beef tendon and short ribs with star anise, white cardamom, licorice root, and dried mandarin peels; and the playful sausage-in-a-sausage is a sticky rice sausage split down its length to cradle a larger pork sausage. The spot was originally conceived as a breakfast place and will eventually offer fan tuan (sticky rice roll), dan bing (crepe-wrapped omelette), and lu rou fan (braised pork over rice), and for now it also serves beef noodle soup on a limited dinner menu. Gulp and the connected bar are open Tue–Thu and Sun 5 p.m.–12 a.m., and Fri–Sat 5 p.m.–1 a.m." - Caroline Shin

Google
Ordered Gulp for delivery today since I heard good things about this place, but was kind of let down by what I got. The popcorn chicken to rice ratio was so sad, barely any chicken and so much rice! The chicken also didn’t have much flavor to them, but the veggies were good. I also got sweet potato on the side, but couldn’t taste any of the plum flavor. A lot of the fries were also burnt as well - some were literally black! Sad because I’ve heard such good things about them, maybe it will be better in person but unfortunately can’t recommend for delivery.

Google
A new Taiwanese restaueant in LIC! This Taiwanese spot is small and cozy, with just a handful of counter seats, so you might have to wait 20-30 mins during busy times. I went for takeout instead, and the food was flavorful, and satisfying. Taiwanese cuisine is hard to find in Long Island City, so I’m especially happy this place opened. Good food, and definitely worth checking out!

Google
I was staying at the ALOFT near by and wandering around to find this place just opening up near a cute cafe. Lovely Taiwanese joint with fun friendly group of people running the place, with all the same dedication and friendliness that the Taiwanese are famous for. Smiles all around and excellent food. Why not eat here all the time? Made me feel like I was at my second home, Taiwan.

Google
Gulp offers a good experience when dining in at their cozy spot which was quite good. However, my delivery experience was unfortunately disappointing. The clear noodles taste like it's not cooked enough and meat texture is on the mushy said. A particular letdown was the absence of adding mustard greens with the meals, which are a well-known and often expected Taiwanese topping. Overall, I don't advise delivery.

Google
Really like this place. I kid you not it feels like Im back in Taiwan again. The ambience, the staff, and the food. Speaking of which, its godly and def worth a try.

I came here for dinner with one of my friends and we both loved it. The interior of this space is pretty small (only 5 seats), so you likely have to get there early to put your name down on their waitlist (that's what I did). Fortunately, the wait for me was only about 20 minutes. However, behind their restaurant, they have a speakeasy that you can grab some drinks at while you wait! The menu here is very simple, with only a few set items. If you are looking for more of their appetizers/dishes or even their new breakfast menu(!), it is only available for to-go (although their breakfast menu is a bit different). My friend and I ordered their beef noodle soup combo and we both loved it. The set came with pickled cabbages, popcorn chicken, tea eggs, and iced tea. It was so filling, huge portion, and very comforting. Loved it and I would love to come back to try their other dishes or try their expanded to-go menu!

Google
Overall, Gulp is a really nice restaurant! They served great, fresh food. Highly recommend the beef noodle soup combo! It is a very nice and well proportioned meal. The ambience was really nice!

Google
Really great spot for a quick bite! Friendly team here! Vibes immaculate 👌 The food was really good! Got the braised pork over rice. All the sides especially the Taiwanese popcorn chicken, all time favorite.

Yelp
Huge portions and great quality-- best Taiwanese spot in NY! There's limited seating but very worth the wait or order from.

Yelp
Very tasty food and warm atmosphere! Will definitely come again. The beef is so tender that melt easily in your mouth.

Yelp
Always good comforting food, would come back any time noodle is free refill. Lou Roy fan is not too salty

Yelp
Everything from beginning to end . My food was warm and delicious soup. The meat tender . The popcorn chicken was delicious and crispy

Yelp
It's a very cute store. Their beef noodle soup is very rich and the beef is super tender. I love their free chicken shots before the meal, it literally can warm up your soul! The noodle is cooked to the perfect temperature. Popcorn chicken is not super greasy. Overall, it's a super hearty meal!

Yelp
The food is homey and delicious. Perfect for any meal where you want good food quickly. The service was lovely as well. My one complaint is that the menu is difficult to decipher. There is little delineation between breakfast or lunch, so I tried ordering several items that were in the breakfast menu.
google avatar

Valerie N.

Yelp
I was quite surprised that I actually loved this place! Their lunch options are a fair price for how filling they are. I tried the dry braised pork noodles and they were delicious. The noodles were the perfect, bouncy texture and the meat was hearty. The popcorn chicken was very crispy, juicy, and flavorful. The breading was the perfect amount, not too much. Im surprised by how good this was! The side is just okay. They're very friendly and the service is great. It's a small place with limited dine in seating. Happy to return!

Yelp
A really cutely decorated food spot with only a few seats. Luckily I came for an early dinner so I didn't have to wait long, but a line formed pretty quickly after I sat down. The food was tasty, serving classic dishes like braised pork over rice and various noodle dishes. The portions were also decent size too, I left feeling was pretty full. There's also a cool looking speakeasy inside the restaurant itself. I'll have to try check it out when I come back!
google avatar

Vivian L.

Yelp
The shop is small with only a few seats, and service is fast. We ordered a noodle and rice bowl to go and the food was well packed. The food was okay, but it was a lot of rice and I wish there were more vegetables.
google avatar

Yelp
Gulp is a good Taiwanese spot in LIC with rich and flavorful comfort food. The space is small and service is good, but with only 5 or so seats, I would definitely do takeout if it's dinner time as waits probably get long even though food comes out fast. We tried the lu rou fan (braised pork) lunch combo, and it was very good. It was quite oily though, but that's to be expected. The sides were fun, especially the crispy chicken, light veggies, and refreshing tea. I also had the braised beef noodle soup, their signature. While the noodles and broth were tasty, the beef shank itself wasn't the best cut and leaned a little too cartilage-y for me. One negative, you can only do combos when dining in, which makes it a lot of food (and a bit pricey). Overall, a good meal! Small nitpicks here and there but would come back for round 2.

Yelp
Came here on a weekday morning because I've been meaning to try the fan tuan. Looking at the menu online, the takeout menu explicitly has the combo on it. So came in to get that, but when I asked they said the combo was available for dine-in only. Then why would they have it directly on their takeout menu?? A bit annoying. At any rate, just got the fan tuan. It was about $7.50 after tax. The fan tuan, despite looking a bit small (see picture, about the length of two ketchup packets), was pretty thick and filling. The filling itself had all the usual fixings you'd find in a fan tuan, I do wish it came with some sort of sauce though. I added some of my own chili oil and it helped, but find it a bit dry on its own after a few bites. Overall, not sure I'd give this place another try unless someone I know wanted it. But it's one of the few spots open in LIC in the morning that serve some sort of Chinese breakfast so if that's what you're craving this is a decent option.

Yelp
Walked in as they were preparing to change over from breakfast to lunch right before 11am. Was lucky to secure seats (they only have five). Appreciated the warning that they were busy at the moment and the on-the-house cabbage appetizer as we waited. The staff, especially the manager, worked efficiently without sacrificing a friendly demeanor. I ordered the beef noodle soup combo - $26 was well worthwhile considering you get a tea egg, a small serving of popcorn chicken, and an extra serving of noodles (upon request). The beef was incredibly tender, noodles were cooked well and bouncy, and broth was not overly spiced or heavy. Would definitely come back to try other dishes and the breakfast menu!

Yelp
My husband and I came here recently to enjoy an early dinner, and thought it was well worth it! Food: we ordered two sets, the minced pork (added porkchop) and braised pork. Both were delicious, with the braised pork having a little more meat than the minced pork (we were glad to have gotten the cutlet!), but we liked the flavor of the minced pork set a little more. The sides, particularly the fried chicken, were great. Service: super nice and friendly! Food came quickly as well. Ambiance: it's a very small space (4 counter seats and I believe one table for two?) so you may encounter a bit of a wait, but it's worth it. We noticed a lot of people getting takeout as well, which we were surprised about knowing we were eating at an odd time of day. Decor inside was really cute!

Yelp
This is the BEST place for authentic Taiwanese flavors!! There's barely any seating with 5 bar seats, but it was honestly worth the 25 min wait for me. I got the lu rou dry noodle combo, and it was absolutely delicious. The texture of the noodles was S tier (super chewy yet soft), and I love that it comes with popcorn chicken and iced tea as well. The servings are very generous too. Every part of the meal tasted like there was a lot of attention put to it. Highly, highly recommend!

Yelp
Taiwanese spot in LIC! Came in for a late dinner so it was easy to grab a seat but I would note that the space is super small -- just a few bar style seats. Saw a lot of people getting take out while I was eating and also saw lot of people carrying the takeout bag around the area as well, haha. Menu for takeout is different than the dine in menu; all of the dine in options come as combos with a few sides, so it turns into a Really filling and substantial meal. Service was really quick and the food was solid! Side note, there's a speakeasy in the back :)

Yelp
Gulp is a small Taiwanese restaurant with only ~8 high top seats. We swung by around 7:15PM on a Wednesday night and were quoted for a 90 minute wait, so we just opted to order to-go; FYI some of the combos are only available if you eat at the restaurant. Overall the pricing was okay for LIC and the food is solid; I probably wouldn't travel for this, but I'd order from here if I lived nearby. Lu Rou Fan Bento (4/5): I personally like my Lu Rou Fan a little fattier and saucier to really coat every rice kernel, but it's still got great flavor. The braised napa cabbage and the rice noodles on the side were surprisingly delicious. They actually impressed me ore than the main did. Fried Radish Cake (4.5/5): I actually really loved this: light crisp on the outside and just an amazing radish cake all around. You can really taste the radish and the texture is a great balance of mostly smooth with some chunks. Comes with some solid chili oil to dip in.

Yelp
A small hole in the wall restaurant. As you enter, there is a kiosk you can place an order to go. And on the right there's 5 seats at a long table. Luckily I got to sit down right away. And at the end is a door to the speakeasy bar. I came here the other day and ordered the braised pork dry noodles combo set ($20). Besides the main dish, it also came with a small bowl of noodles with cabbage and an egg, a side of karaage chicken and a cup of tea. I was a bit confused at first when I ordered the dry noodles because I didn't think there would be any broth inside. Nevertheless, it was quite tasty. The meat was very tender and flavorful and the noodles were cooked just right.

Yelp
Yes, I'm back at Gulp--this time to try their newly launched breakfast menu. I've seen so many people on social media raving about how authentic their Taiwanese breakfast is, and I had to try it for myself. I got their popular breakfast items, but they still have hot plate noodles (鐵板麵), radish cakes (蘿蔔糕), and tea egg (茶葉蛋). Available daily at both LIC and Jersey City locations. Breakfast menu: 8:30-11:30 am *Taiwanese Omelet 招牌總匯蛋餅 A Taiwanese breakfast classic. It was wrapped with hashbrown, corn, cheese, and pork floss, served with a side of oyster sauce for dipping. Very filling and delicious. I only wish they could launch more different dan bing flavors in the future, like taro & pork floss, ham & cheese, or cheese and corn. *Fan Tuan 飯糰 *Soy Milk 豆漿 Who else agrees that fan tuan and soy milk are the perfect breakfast duo? Their fan tuan was made with sticky rice, youtiao, pickled mustard greens, and pork floss. It instantly brought me back to those street carts in Taiwan, where a granny would handroll each one (those are much bigger in size, of course lol). The soy milk was SO GOOD and very lightly sweetened that I would get it again. *Pork Floss Egg Sandwich 肉鬆蛋三明治 It felt like eating three sandwiches at once, like a multiple choice quiz and you picked "all of the above". The cucumber and pork floss combo was savory but still refreshing. You can also tell how fluffy the bread was.

Yelp
Everything was yummy, good spot! Small cozy vibe, come for the food which is super tasty

Yelp
Gulp has been all over my feed lately, so I finally went to check it out. There are only about 5 seats inside. The hostess/cashier/server had us scan a QR to join the wait. We only waited for about 20 minutes. Honestly, it felt a little overhyped. The flavors were fine, but a few things didn't quite hit. The rice to meat ratio was pretty off. It felt like a 1:5 situation, way more rice than protein, which made the bowl feel unbalanced. It doesn't help that the pork belly is diced so small it kinda got lost in the rice. Would've been nice to get a bit more meat to go with each bite. The popcorn chicken came with the set. It had potential but could've been crispier and definitely needed more seasoning. Not bad, just underwhelming compared to the hype and can't justify the price. Might give it another shot down the line and try their breakfast.
google avatar

Sera Y.

Yelp
I unfortunately do not know why this place was so highly reviewed. I ordered takeout from this place, and was disappointed by the beef noodle soup. The noodles in the soup weren't very chewy and I didn't think the beef was very tender. The radish cakes with the spicy sauce was pretty good though!
google avatar

Ngan N.

Yelp
This is my favorite spot to eat in NY. I've been here multiple times and have brought friends here who also love the food. The atmosphere is always welcoming, and the wait for a seat at the bar does not take long at all. Every time I come to eat, I always leave full and satisfied. The portions ARE TOO GOOD Anyways, I'll be back next week!
google avatar

Amy W.

Yelp
One of the few spots to grab a bite near midnight... the staff was friendly and we ordered at the kiosk and grabbed our food to-go. The order was packed nicely and securely. The interior was quite slim with some counter seating. They're connected to a speakeasy type bar, which is cute. I was a bit unimpressed by the food itself, though. I got the chicken + braised beef combo rice box. It was overall a bit bland and I had to add some soy sauce and seasoning when I got home. The tea egg didn't have the rich flavors that I normally get from a Taiwanese restaurant. There was a ton of rice vs meat as well. Perhaps a misorder on my end as the beef noodle soup also looked really yummy.
google avatar

Sunny W.

Yelp
Gulp has recently launched their breakfast menu, served daily from 8:30 am to 11:30 am. We tried the fan tuan, which was pre-wrapped and kept warm in a rice cooker. It was still hot and bouncy when served. I loved the sticky rice texture, and the filling had a nicely balanced mix of flavors and textures. Can't wait to try their other breakfast dishes next time!
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
I finally got a chance to visit Gulp in LIC, I've tried twice but both times we opted to not wait since there's only five spots at this location. This spot definitely satisfies my Taiwanese food cravings. They serve a limited dine-in menu and the options are all gulp combos. The combo comes with popcorn chicken, tea egg, small side dish, and seasonal taiwanese tea. The portions were very filling and the combo ranges from $20-26. Both my friend and I got their lu rou fan aka braised pork rice. Every bite of this was delicious and the fatty pieces worked perfectly with the nice savory sauce. Gulp has a larger menu for takeout for the LIC location and there's a much larger selection at the location in Jersey City.
google avatar

Ivan W.

Yelp
Not gonna lie, this is the best Taiwanese food I've had in the states & im Taiwanese my god the lu rou fan & beef noodle soup is FANTASTIC. Cute bar seating atmosphere, very intimate. I took my Brazilian girlfriend and she loved it too. Service is quick and they are right in front of you. Delicious delicious delicious
google avatar

Olivia L.

Yelp
This is a true hole in the wall. Only 5 seats across a bar space which can be a little warm in the summer, but food was authentic, delicious and staff was warm. My husband said that this was the first place outside of Taiwan that had food like this in the past 15 years and my daughter ate our leftovers when we got home and told us that the food the best food she has ever eaten . I got the Lou Ro Fan because it was traditional and my husband got the noodle version because it was way too hot for beef noodle soup today. They were both great in their own ways, but the noodle really soaked up the sauce and they offer $3 for a second bowl which was a true second bowl, not just plain noodles added to the bowl. The appetizer fruit, the tea, popcorn chicken was all fantastic. Great experience. Will do take out next time so the whole family can enjoy together!
google avatar

Taylor Y.

Yelp
Such a yummy and fun experience dining in here! I ordered the meal set with a chicken rice - it was so much food for $20! The restaurant itself is small with only 4 seats, but comfy. The service was quick and friendly!
google avatar

Riki J.

Yelp
Tiny restaurant with just 5 seats at the bar. They serve breakfast and lunch and have a limited menu. Everything comes as a set combo. Every part of it is delicious and warming. I had the braised pork dry noodle and it was a very filling portion. I came on a weeknight and was seated right away but after me, there was a 10min wait till the next seats opened up.
google avatar

Melanie Y.

Yelp
I'm Taiwanese and often make Taiwanese food at home, so I was so excited to hear about this Taiwanese spot in the city - this is a tiny, cute little shop in a popular area of LIC, and only seats maybe fewer than 10 people at a time. Every time I've come by, the seating was full, so finally one day after the third time this happened I decided to order takeout instead. We ordered the braised pork belly over rice and the beef noodle soup - the pork belly over rice had way more rice than it had meat, and both dishes were really bland. I tried to add more seasoning to them at home, but even the noodle texture was just not right - everything just really felt like soup diluted to 10% of what it originally was and the noodles weren't anything like I expected - not chewy and just really soggy. We didn't take that long (maybe 10 minutes?) to get home either so not sure how it could have possibly gotten so soggy and soft so quickly. I've had a lot of takeout Taiwanese food back in California and in Taiwan (and just at home when I make it) and truly good food would still be flavorful and delicious -- whether it's 5 minutes or an hour afterward. Picture attached also has some leftovers from other places we went to earlier that day - just look at the food in the black containers! Those are from Gulp. I unfortunately was quite disappointed and it was the first time we didn't finish our food in a long while.
google avatar

Patrick N.

Yelp
Nice little spot, feels super cozy inside with that Taiwanese cafe vibe. I had the popcorn chicken and the lu rou fan. Popcorn chicken could use a bit more seasoning, more spicy, and crunch, kinda soft. The lu rou fan though was comforting, braised pork over rice that hits the spot. Overall good food. Will come back and try other items
google avatar

Jessica Y.

Yelp
5 stars for the food, but this restaurant is really tiny so if you're trying to dine-in the wait is kind of wild. We got there about 5 minutes after they opened for lunch and the wait was estimated to be about 40 minutes, which turned into over 1.5 hours. The staff were all friendly and they were working really hard, but I think they are a bit understaffed given the volume of orders coming in. It seems like most people do take out, which is probably the move if you live around the area. Just note that if you dine-in, the menu is a little more limited and you have to get the combos (which are great btw). The beef noodle soup was perfect on a rainy day, and not too oily. The noodles were cooked to a nice consistency. The braised pork over rice was also very delicious, and definitely a must-try. I think they would do really well if they expanded to a larger location! But for now, I think it might be better to opt for take-out.

Yelp
First time ever having it and honestly, I think I need to expand my horizons lol. I did a pickup order and the customer service was quick and efficient, I was in and out! The space is small and quaint. It's flavorful, crunchy, light and hits that sweet salty umami thing. I will definitely be getting food from here again!

Yelp
What a gem of a place! Gulp is a tiny hole in the wall with counter seating that serves up some comforting bowls of beef noodle soup, braised pork over rice and braised pork over noodles among other Taiwanese street snacks like popcorn chicken, fried pork chop, fried chicken chop and Taiwanese sausage. We tried two combos, the beef noodle soup was light and aromatic with the most tender pieces of beef. The braised pork over noodles had a great sauce to coat the noodles. Felt like I was having Taiwanese spaghetti. The combo came with popcorn chicken, side of rice noodle with cabbage and tea egg and iced Jasmine tea. We also ordered a Taiwanese pork chop to go, SO GOOD. They were busy with takeout orders all night. There were a lot of staff working in sync to push out orders and they seem to have a great rhythm. The food, was epic and I will order takeout from them soon.

Yelp
I've seen this place all over social media and I knew I had to go one day. Me and my friend were so lucky and managed to snag two out of their five seats at 5pm on a Thursday. After scanning the QR code for the menu pasted on the back of a mini pinball game, we each ordered a set: Lou Rou Fan for me and Beef Noodle Soup for her. We started off with one of the most interesting things I've ever eaten. It tasted so familiar and when I asked an employee they said it was cherry tomatoes marinaded in sprite. Once you heard sprite, you could taste the unmistakable notes of the lemon lime soda. It was really cool to watch the workers make your food in front of you in the open concept kitchen, building up anticipation for your food to arrive. The Lou Rou Fan was delicious, with the savory, sweet sauce covering every grain of rice and the small pieces of pork belly melting in your mouth. The fried chicken pieces were juicy and flavorful. Even the veggie and vermicelli side dish was good, with a taste of sesame oil. The small cup of iced tea was a nice refreshing touch. The nice workers offered small bowls so we could share entrees. The noodles were good, in a rich beefy broth, and the beef shank was flavorful but I much preferred my pork rice. Overall, a MUST try in LIC for delicious authentic Taiwanese food!

Yelp
Hm 3.75 stars and rounded up. Came this weekend with a couple friends at 6pm and put our names down on the waitlist since there's only 5 seats at the bar. It's mostly a takeout place and I saw probably 3 times the amount of take out orders being prepped compared to eat-in orders. You scan a QR code to put your name down and we waited about 20 minutes, coming back when we got the text. Sitting at the counter we scanned the menu QR codes cleverly printed on stickers on the back of mini pinball games. They passed us little shooters of chicken broth--a warm, savory start to the meal. Food was ready within 5-7 minutes. We each ordered a set, which came with 1) a small bowl of rice noodles and boiled Napa cabbage with a tea egg, in what tasted like a soysaucr-based broth. This was simple though tasted like a bit of homemade comfort food, 2) a small saucer of deep fried salt and pepper popcorn chicken, a tad bit of crunch--tasty! and 3) a glass of traditional lightly sweetened black tea, this tasted a bit like grass jelly to me. I enjoyed all the sides. Main items were the following: LuRou Dry Noodles $20: diced braised pork belly over noodles. Great flavor, a bit oily--though I guess it is pork belly after all. You can get a second bowl dining in for $3, which is a steal! Beef Noodle Soup $26: generous serving of braised beef shank in beef broth, flavor was a bit light on the broth than what I'm used to, there was a bit too much oil on the top layer of the soup. Chicken and LuRou Rice $24: this is the same minced braised pork belly on the noodles, and mixed chicken as well (which I didn't taste), served over rice. Staff was cordial and seemed quite busy--they managed to fit 5-6 people in a very tight kitchen! To pay go up to the counter after your meal. 929 bar is located directly inside from the kitchen and counter thru the unmarked door at the back right.

Yelp
Two of my favorite foods in the world is Taiwanese beef noodle soup and Taiwanese chicken cutlet - so of course that's what I had to order! I came in at 9 pm on a Friday night and they had quite a decent amount of people waiting outside for their food. Being that it's a small store with not a lot of seats, I also ordered mine to go. Now for the food - I did wish the beef noodle soup had more flavor and the chicken to be juicier and bigger. However, I imagine I'll still end up coming here. Taiwanese popcorn chicken is a lot more popular here in NYC compared to a whole Taiwanese chicken cutlet and being that they open late, this is one of the few places I'm able to get it if I have late night cravings

Yelp
Way better than Jaba, prices way better and more authentic I'd say. I like the vibe how its a small 4-6 seater so hard to dine in but just get take out and eat at a park near by unless its the noodle soup. I got the beef noodle soup, fry platter and the turnip cake things and the taiwanese sausage. Noodle soup was 19$, still a bit pricey but way better than jaba 25$ noodles. I think the meat over rice items are the most worth. The fry platter was great, really felt like Taiwan but it is basically just popcorn chicken haha, I got two green beans, and like 4 fish cakes. The turnip cake was really good, I just think they need more sauce to go with it, so little XO sauce was given. They should also include that sweet and spicy sauce that taiwan typically has. Overall great place, I would try again for sure!

Yelp
Didn't meet expectations of the hype. We dined in and got two different sets- the pork rice and the beef noodle soup. The counter only seats 5 people but they have a QR code to join the waitlist. Both were underwhelming for the price. The rice bowl was packed but just didn't hit with flavor. The beef soup was also only ok. The beef was tender but nothing spectacular. The noodles were fine and so was the soup. Just not up to the hype they have. The sides were also just ok. The popcorn chicken was quite soft and under seasoned. They have a promotion where you get a free drink in return for a 5 star review so that may be why they have such high ratings.

Yelp
Saw this place on TikTok and knew I had to try! We came the day after a snow storm and the restaurant was full (there is only bar seating and no bathroom). We waited about 20 minutes before being able to sit as a party of 2. But since it is bad seating you can watch the chefs at work. I got the lu rou fan set and bf got the beef noodle soup set. I love the idea of the set. It was the perfect amount of food which consisted of an iced sweetened tea, chicken soup, a small dish of noodles and veggies, popcorn chicken which was amazingly juicy and crispy and your main. My Lu rou fan was amazingly satisfying, at first I had wished my pork wasn't as finely diced but it did make sure the rice was nicely coated with the pork. It was just fatty enough to my liking. Would get again. Wish there were more radishes but the table also has a shared sauce rack with pickled vegetables which I helped myself to multiple times. The beef noodle soup was a little oily for my liking but the spice was really great. A very strong 5 spice taste and spell and they even offer a free serving of noodles. Bf also mentioned how they were not stingy with the meat so that's good.

Yelp
I'd recently been to 929, which was phenomenal! But the food at Gulp was disappointing. I placed an online order through Yelp and my food was ready in just a few minutes. Unfortunately, basically every element of the popcorn chicken bento was lacking: - popcorn chicken: the chicken itself was dry for dark meat, and the coating of breading wasn't thick enough to create a satisfying crunch - napa cabbage: undercooked and not seasoned at all. Extremely bland and close to raw. - noodle side dish: goopy and really saucy, and way too salty. The complete opposite of the Napa cabbage. The only passable component of the bento was the seasoned egg.

Yelp
Food 3.5/5 This spot is a decent choice for quick eats if that's what you're looking for! They surprisingly have separate menus for takeout and dine-in, though keep in mind there are only about 4 seats if you plan to eat there. We opted for takeout, and I was pleased that the beef noodle soup broth was still hot when we got it home. The broth itself was decent, but the noodle texture was mediocre. The meat slices, felt too thick for me I'd prefer them cut much thinner. Portion size was also on the smaller side. The Lu rou fan (pork over rice), while a bit on the dry side, was actually tastier than the noodle soup.

Yelp
I came in on a Thursday afternoon and was seated right away. There are only a few seats, but the staff is super friendly and attentive. I ordered the lunch combo and the portion is so generous. The beef noodle soup combo came with popcorn chicken, vermicelli noodles, and tea. This was more than enough for a filling lunch. I would highly recommend Gulp!

Yelp
The best beef noodle soup I've ever had. This place has only five seats but most of their business is delivery. I'd recommend just getting it take out because there is no system for the waitlist, you just have to stand there.
