Wow Unbelievable! Coming from the United States and trying this food was outstanding! They use the perfect seasoning for the chicken, The waffles were fluffy and tasty. The staff were friendly helpful I truly enjoyed eating at this place.

Gumbo Yaya is a rare gem! It is one of the few authentic American restaurants in the area, and it did not disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious—real soul food done right. If you are craving genuine Chicken & Waffles, this is the place to go. Highly recommended!

love the chicken and waffle here! it's exactly what I'm looking for! and the flavor is just right, I chose the spicy one, the waffle is great as well, cream is smooth, but still a bit oily, I had to remove my waffle a bit to avoid soaking in the oil 😂 , the service is great, I love the menu! the vibe is just like the American vibe, just avoid sitting next to the toilet, because some people might forgot to close the door, although the staff always close it immediately.

Made it to Gumbo Yaya and it was a vibe. The establishment is small scale inside, so there is a little bit of a wait. The staff was very kind and the music was on point with all the back to back RnB jams. Now, the food....those yams 🍠 wewhhhh child, sooo tender and sweet 😋 it made me feel like I'm ready for Thanksgiving. The mac and cheese was not as moist as I'd like it but wasn't horrible but I had more hard corners than I'd prefer. Lastly the chicken 🐔 the breading had a nice crunch but the chicken itself wasn't seasoned, to the batter was where you seen the seasonings. The chicken was a little dry but not horrible...I still knocked a hole in it because we were hungry lol. I'd still tell folks to try GY simply because there are not a lot of soul food places in Paris.

Omg I stumbled across this gem on TikTok I’m visiting Paris from Philadelphia for my 10 year wedding anniversary and I knew we absolutely HAD to come here. The food was FAST AND AMAZING! The staff was super friendly from the moment we walked in and the prices are pretty decent for a good meal. If time will allow we’re going to try and go one more time before heading back to the states. In the meantime everyone please support this restaurant. Seating is superrrrr limited so I would plan accordingly

I came here with a friend for their famous chicken and waffles. We were not initially served the whipped butter, and was only given to us after i asked for it to be added. Their response was that they don't always give it out, yet somehow it's included on the menu? Other people also had pickles with their order but not us. I heard the waitress tell another table that they had run out, but that's not something we were told. The place is very poorly ventilated on the inside and smelled very strongly of frying oil. The food was good, but the overall experience is strange and doesn't necessarily scream hospitable or welcoming.

Waffle sandwich was delicious and well seasoned !!Mac and cheese was a little dry, as it had just been reheated. Fast and kind service. Would return for the chicken and waffles.

Been going to this restaurant for awhile mow. However, it was quite disappointing this time. Tried their chicken biscuit, the chicken is soggy and and not crispy/crunchy at all and there is barely any sauce(supposed to be a honey butter sauce) in it.

Such a great find in Paris! It's a small restaurant with about 16 seats MAX! The staff was extremely cordial and appreciated using their English as Jay Z played in the background. I ordered The Big Homie Chicken and had the coleslaw and French fries. The chicken is seasoned well and fries were great! The hot sauce was house made and very hot. French ketchup is sweet. A must visit when in Paris!

Be prepared for a wait. The restaurant is tiny but they did recommend a couple of cafes we could go have drinks at while we waited for a text or call. We waited for an hour. My friend ordered the chicken and waffles with a side of fries and I got the 2 piece and mac and cheese. The chicken was well seasoned and cooked fresh, the waffle was amazing, fries were perfect but that mac and cheese was not it. The noodles were corkscrew and there was a spice to it. My southern US tastebuds couldn't do it. The hot sauce was legit though. Tastes just like Louisiana Hot sauce but it's light. My friend and I split the carafe of lemonade. It was decent but nothing I'd try again. The nod to hip hop in the decor and the music played was a nice vibe. It's definitely worth the wait. I'm glad we tried it.

The food was flavorful and absolutely delicious! Soulful in France. The restaurant itself is small but was able to accommodate a party of 8 people. I truly enjoyed my culinary experience here.

I traveled from Los Angeles, Ca to go Gumbo YaYa, based on a You Tube video . We were determined to get there after visiting the Eiffel Tower while in Paris. We opted for the 7:30pm opening. It was a "no show "! We were so disappointed to find it not open. Clearly printed on the wall of the restaurant was OPEN Monday-Friday 12:30-2:30pm 7:30-10pm. Nothing, nada, Is this how you conduct business, My hopes were dashed! This is no way to run a business!

Very cute, small Southern inspired restaurant in Paris. Close to the metro but not close to the Eiffel Tower. Fried chicken was seasoned to perfection and the waffles were moist and decadent. While the Mac and cheese was good, it could've been a bit more creamy. They sold out of yams but the table next to us said they were good. Being from America, we like our tea and kool aid sweet sweet, we had the tea and lemonade (Arnold Palmer) it was nice but when we added that ginger beer... it took it to another level. The ice cream sandwich was so delicious! The ice cream was rich and paired well with the waffle. 10 out of 10 would definitely recommend.. ooh if you come looking for Gumbo, they don't have any.

Yeah so this place looks understated but the French take cooking seriously. All cooking seriously. If you are looking for flavorful legit southern flavored food in the middle of western Europe.... Oh lalala. Yams yasss. Mac and cheese... Could be served at Thanksgiving dinner... And bug mama would smile. Lemonade was lightly sweetened as it should be. Homemade not from a Kool aid packet. Chicken.... Yes. Service is friendly and solid. I would not eat here everyday, but if you need a fix... GY is it!

I highly recommend Gumbo Yaya. My chicken and waffles were delicious....perfectly cooked. Everything was served hot and quickly.

Had to get some soup food while in Paris and they did not disappoint! Everything my girlfriend and I ordered was delicious. Very small spot but we still was able to get seated. Will definitely return.

Small yet mighty the train ride/Uber into this neighborhood away from the tourist sights. I had been told if I want or need a taste of home southern style deep fried chicken and the best flaky waffles look no where else. Oh goodness the food was sooo delicious and worth it especially the wait w/out reservations for 4 Americans that included former athletes that are huge

So, I see 5 star after 5 star for this restaurant, and it makes me wonder if anyone actually knows what soul food taste like. Having grown up in Alabama and eating soul food everyday of my life I can assure you that this is only a close imitation. The chicken seemed to be triple battered (flour, egg wash, flour, repeat) which in itself is not southern fried chicken. The chicken had almost no flavor. I had to cover it in hot sauce to enjoy it. The Mac and cheese seemed to be a French version of what the restaurant thought was soul food and not good. I had to try the yams also, and to my disappointment it was not sweet. everyone knows that the only soul food yams are candy yams, and these were not it. My girlfriend is French, who i personally taught how to fry chicken. Because she had learned how to cook a little soul food and knew how good it should taste, could also tell that this was not it also did not think it was that good​

This soul food chicken and waffles place is amazing. I was visiting Paris for the first time and found this place on Yelp. I took 2 Metros(first time riding it in Paris), got off and it was right there. The wait was approximately 1.5 hours so me and my friends gave waiter our number. He recommended going to have a drink at neighborhood bar across the street. We did a little site seeing in the neighborhood and ended up at the bar. Waiter tried to text and call me but due to T-MOBILE the text or call never came through. Instead of him cancel our spot - he decided to go to the neighborhood bar to see if he could find us...and he did. That was so amazing and the best customer service ever. I also dropped my plate of food - don't know how that happened and the replaced everything with no issues. WOW!!! The next time I go to Paris - this will be the first place I will stop.

Gumbo Yaya is a vibe. I could sit and listen to the music played all day. The food did not disappoint and staff was super cool. Chicken was seasoned well and was served fresh. I wish there was more space but again the vibe and food explains the line outside before they open. Will definitely visit again on our next Paris visit.

So I came all the way to Paris and had a great waffle chicken sandwich. I'm not great at reviews and I only post them if I truly enjoyed them. I can say I was pleasantly surprised. The chicken had great flavor the yams were cooked like back home in the south and the Mac & cheese had flavor. I will return again when I come back. If your in Paris please try this place it will be well worth it.

Food and service were amazing. The chicken was crispy and tender. The waffle was perfectly cooked. The place is small but it felt like home. Food came out fast and the music and ambiance was good.

Great fried chicken and waffles! Chicken was seasoned with a bit of hot sauce just like American Southern fried chicken should be. Waffles were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Pies are actually tarts (French), but still delicious.

Before visiting Paris, I made a list of places I wanted to visit while there. This place was one of them. It got really good reviews, and was also recommended by a friend. Could a little spot in Paris really do chicken and waffles like home? YES, they can! The chicken was crunchy and still remained flavorful and juicy, and the waffle was soft with a bit of a crisp on the outside. Delicious. Please be mindful that the spot is VERY small, similar to many other restaurants in Paris. We were going to eat outside in the freezing cold (it was February), but right after we ordered, a small table opened up inside. Next time I'm in Paris (hopefully when the world opens back up), I'm definitely going back here.

This place was recommended to us by a friend and was the best meal we had while we were in Paris. There was a wait, but we just went to a bar down the street and came when a table was ready. It was definitely worth it. The chicken was the highlight of the meal. Perfectly crisp skin and very juicy and full of flavor. The waffle itself was a little lighter than I'm used to, but still very good overall.

My wife and I are from the US and wanted to support a black owned business in Paris. We gave this place a shot and we were impressed by the food. The chicken and waffles did not disappoint, better than some places in the U.S. I also had the chicken biscuit sandwich and it was excellent. If you are looking for great food with a great atmosphere you should check this place out.

We walked in at 2:05 and Lionel invited us in! Despite them closing at 2:30. He is amazing! Us being from California, came in to see a man wearing a Warriors shirt and spoke English. The customers were raving about the chicken burger and the waffle burger. I opted for the classic- chicken and waffles. We grabbed a sweet tea/lemonade pitcher, loved the mango curry sauce and enjoyed the experience. The chicken was moist, flavorful and warm! Omg- plus the waffle were soft, thick but buttery. It wasn't heavy. Definitely a staple in Paris. Heads up- if you're from the states? Try the curry mango sauce, the mustard barbecue sauce and the Sazon Ranchero Liquido sauce. Oh! And his homemade spicy mayo sauce! Whew Chile! This is definitely a morning treat!!!

I know, I know... what is an American doing eating American food while in Paris? Trust me I was telling myself the same until I actually tried this place. The food is delicious and the staff is very friendly. Ended up taking the food to go and it did not disappoint. Definitely recommend!

This place was referred by a friend. Once I started researching, based on the information I read, I decided that we'd get there when they first open. We were greeted by a really nice young lady who shortly after arriving took our order. It's a really small place so it fills up quick. I ordered chicken and waffles and a glass of kool-aid. Delicious! It took awhile for our food to come out, but by conversing with other patrons it didn't seem bad. If ever in Paris again, I'd definitely return.

This was THEE BEST MEAL that I had during my time in Paris. And let me tell you, I ate real good while there. Gumbo Yaya is worth the wait, and it will be long, so pack your patience. I had been told that another place had the best fried chicken in Paris but I ate there, too (see my reviews), and I absolutely beg to differ. THIS place has the best bird I've ever had anywhere. Anywhere! Get the chicken and waffles and get your life. If you're really a glutton, they'll even make a pitcher of koolaid for you! I was born and raised in California and I told them that their dish was BETTER than Roscoe's. Quote me on it. 4 stars only for the long wait (they re-open closer to 8pm instead of 7:30) and the seating situation. I know there's only so much that they can do as a small establishment but dizam it's super tight in there. Chances are you will have to sit with strangers and that can be fun only if said strangers aren't funny acting about it. Recommended either way, but try to get there a few minutes before they open. They do place orders based on who arrived first.

Soul food in Paris? Why not?? Make the trek to this place today. It's very small with more outside seating than inside. The wait was about 20 minutes. The guys out front do a great job of explaining the process to you. They take your order and phone number then call you when a tables is ready. Once seated our food come out within minutes. The service was good. The food was average to me. But I have high standards when it comes to soul food. Blame my mom for her good cooking. The Mac n Cheese was bland and the noodles overcooked. Chicken was decent but had too much breading for my taste. All in all I would return to try it again for a taste of home.

ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!! At first I was a little skeptical about this 17 person restaurant, but boy was I impressed and happy I decided to eat here on my last day in Paris. I so wanted see what all the hype was about I was willing to sit in the cold to have a taste. The chicken breast was well seasoned and juicy. Waffle was just as I like it, crispy on the outside light and fluffy on the inside. And the waffle was tasty with the right amount of sweetness. I ate every piece with no syrup, it didn't need it. Take head to theDC old saying "don't judge a book by its cover" you will miss a great meal. BTW the staff was nice and polite.

I recently made a stop at Gumbo YaYa when visiting Paris for a couple of days. I passed by it while in a taxi and saw "soul food" and knew I wanted to check it out later in the day! Soul food is not exactly the same in Paris as it is in the south (US) so don't have that expectation up front! Upon walking up to the restaurant there was a line of people who have gathered outside. I was able to be seated quickly at a table inside. One of the workers there kindly asked some people to move over to allow me space at their table. I definitely didn't complain there! The place was small with just 3 large tables and one very small one person table inside. There was additional seating outside. The menu was not very big but had your soul food staples. I ordered the filet and macaroni. FYI- the filet was boneless chicken. (I thought I was ordering fish ) The chicken was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The macaroni... I'm not too sure how I felt about it but it wasn't bad. The service was excellent but not over-done. The staff was friendly while not being annoying. After your meal you pay up at the counter.

Do not expect to see gumbo on the menu. It's fried chicken, Mac n cheese and that's about it... but it's delicious! The place is super tiny. You can barely move. But the wait is worth it when you're craving the food.

The best meal that I had while visiting Paris. I wish it was a little more spacious, but other than that it was cool. I suggest you get there early, because there was a line to get inside.

Delicious. Long line but worth the wait. We weren't very impressed with the previous food we had in Paris, but this spot was on point. The Host taking names as well as the server were very friendly. Food was delicious, chicken crisp, waffles on point. Mac and cheese was good, didn't care much for the candied yams. Overall I highly recommend.

Delicious, southern food that was worth the wait and train ride! We arrived around 7:45pm and there was already a line but my bestie and I were on vacay, originally from Maryland, staying in Chessy for the week and wanted some southern food. Wanted a taste of home and found this spot on here. (Yelp). Did not disappoint. Sitting is limited but that should not deter you, if you have to sit community style at a table with strangers...its Paris. The staff was attentive and the food came out in a timely manner. Best chicken and waffles outside of Roscoes and the mac and cheese with yams, you would swear was made by a Southern grandmother. Highly recommend!

The plate and side was DELICIOUS. I recommend calling before going because when my group of 5 went we had an hour wait and had to be waitlisted for an hour. We went to a local bar to wait it out. Everything was delicious, except we ordered cornbread but it seemed to be the last ones and were stiff. But the staff knew once they realized no one at our table touched them. They without asking didn't charge us for them. Definitely recommend trying this quaint place out if you're feeling for some soul food.

Great chicken! It's big portions, with quality seasoning. If you're looking for soul food in Paris this is where you need to be. I've yet to see anything wrong with this place. It can be tight though due to space. Only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the name is misleading. They don't serve any gumbo. Lol

So when we arrive there was a 2 hour wait. So we went to another cafe on the corner and had 2 drinks.... I'm glad that we were able to place our order therefore when we returned our food was placed in front of us within 10 min of being seated.

After many unsuccessful attempts to try Paris' new southern food canteen, [thankyou EDF!] I can say it was worth the wait! Atmosphere is very laid back and local, with an open kitchen overlooking the room. The place is small, with picnic style benches for maybe 20 people comfortably, but being in a pedestrian only street away from the hustle and bustle of the street, they will make full use of their outdoor seating in the Summer! The food; delicious! Fried chicken which was moist and a perfectly spiced coating served with large waffles that manage to be imposing but not dry. Don't forget the maple syrup!! The not so good; Service was quite slow, perhaps at least 30 minutes to get our food. The space had a good feel but the tables and benches have been crammed in so you will touch you neighbour either side and also the back of the person behind you. Drink selection is very basic. Soft or beer. Would be good to add something like a homemade lemonade? Anyway, go try it!

Stopped here yesterday to check it out. My 4 friends and I are only here for 3 days and 4 nights so we wanted to try a host of different foods. We're studying abroad in Spain so chicken and waffles are non-existent. Anyway, it was monumentally fabulous. We were so pleased and satisfied, we're going back tonight when they open. 2 of us got chicken and waffles and 2 of us got the 2 piece with a side. I got an extra side of spinach. Tonight I'll be getting chicken and waffles.

This is a very good soul food place...I don't know if there is another one in Paris but this is comparable to what I used to have in the USA...another interesting thing is the waffle burger..it is really good!! I only rate it 3 stars because the waiter was rude to us and he didnt want to let us in because we were 9 even if there was enough space inside...he almost insulted us for being a big group...I cant stand these stupid waiters...anw we told the owner aboit that and he promised us to deal with him

Worth the wait! Chicken & Waffles Were DELICIOUS!!! Will definitely be back when in Paris. Sitting outside mingling with the locals was super fun. Chicken was seasoned and moist, delicious!!!

I truly enjoyed Gumbo Yaya during my visit to Paris in March. The food was excellent!! I will definitely return!

We tried this place while on a 35 day euro trip and out of 11 countries this was one of the best meals we had! I got the filet plate, mac n cheese then we all shared a waffle! My friend got the on the bone plate which had thigh and drumstick with the Mac which was also great! There's was a ton of condiments and the portions are huge! It is a little pricey €13 was the average but not bad considering how much you get! Super friendly English speaking staff that was very helpful! Heads up make a reservation online so you don't have to wait an hour! They're always packed!

Very small seats about 20 inside. Came on a thursday night 930pm place was packed waited 50 min to get a table but they take your order so that when a table is available your food gets brought to you few min later. Now the food the chicken alone is very good my husband ordered the waffle sandwich he enjoyed it. For us it is right near our hotel overall a good place to eat and enjoy american fried chicken.

Um, why don't we have this in the US? Our best meal in Paris was in Gumbo Yaya (i know, how French, lol). But seriously, the best friend chicken! And I lived in the South for three years, but this was the best I've ever tasted! Paired with curry mango and firestarter sauces - finger licking good! And they were pretty damn cheap, too (at least by Parisian standards). Breading was crisp, spicy .. and the meat was tender, smoking hot from the fryer, and very well done. We ate here twice in our week-long stay in Paris. Tip - be there BEFORE they open. Otherwise, be prepared to wait for a table. Please tell me you are thinking of opening another branch in California!

This little restaurant was a highlight of my short time in Paris. The chicken and waffles were PERFECT, so amazingly delicious. The chicken was seasoned and fried to perfection and the waffle was the perfect, buttery, accompaniment. Having never had a chicken-and-waffle *sandwich* (with cheddar cheese?), I read the reviews and decided to make the trek. The waitress was delightful (and patient and kind), the folks who prepared the meal were all lovely (and frankly, everyone was also quite lovely to look at; waffles must make you beautiful!). Go. Eat. Smile.

This is a diamond in the rough! The chicken here is amazing not to mention the sides. A must visit if you are looking for a taste of America's southern cuisine in Paris!!!
