12 New Hotels in Greece Opening this Spring - AFAR
"On the small, rugged island of Folegandros, Gundari makes its debut with 27 suites and villas, all with pools, and all inspired by the wild beauty of the island." - Nicola Chilton
"The Cycladic island of Folegandros is often described as what Santorini must have felt like 50 years ago — a collection of whitewashed cliff-top villages overlooking the Aegean Sea where a visitor might get swept up in a festival spilling into the main square. The island has no airport, and much of its land is classified as a protected forest. But its relative remoteness has also meant that there aren’t many places to stay, and the existing small hotels book up quickly, which is why island-hoppers are so excited about Gundari, Folegandros’s first luxury hotel. After a soft opening last summer, the 30-room property is now complete with a trio of new villas and a three-seat wine bar with a picture window overlooking the ocean. Rising from the copper-red cliffs on the southeastern coast of the island, the resort is designed to reflect its surroundings, with unpolished marble floors and an earthy palette. Each of the rooms has a pool that’s solar heated, and over 600 indigenous seedlings, including olive and fig trees, were planted on the 100-acre property. On-site, guests can visit the subterranean spa for facials and massages, wade to the sunken swim-up bar, then sample produce from the hotel’s organic farm at Orizon restaurant. But they’re encouraged to explore Folegandros by borrowing one of Gundari’s electric bikes or the electric Mini Moke to visit churches and coves, chartering the speedboat for a sunset sail or hiking the 35 miles of trails. Still, the highlight of a trip just might be a visit to Chora, the capital village two miles from the resort, to soak up the ambience or take a cooking class with Yia Yia Irene, the owner of Irene’s Restaurant, which has fed the island for over 70 years. Rooms from $540 a night, gundari.com."
This was our second year returning to Gundari (with friends this time), and once again, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine warmth and attentive hospitality from the incredible staff.
Our room was very comfortable, the food and drinks consistently top-notch, and the curated background music added the perfect touch to the atmosphere. The spa? Absolutely otherworldly — a true highlight of our stay.
What makes Gundari truly special is how seamlessly it blends into Folegandros’ serene yet rugged landscape. You can genuinely feel the energy of the earth, day and night. We left feeling rejuvenated and already dreaming of our next visit. See you next year!!!

I had really high expectations for our stay at Gundari and it did not disappoint! The hotel is amazing with gorgeous views of the Aegean, great facilities from the spa, to the pool and the gym. Really enjoyed the morning yoga classes on offer as well. The rooms were large, comfortable and beautifully furnished, and I loved all the attention to details in the design and service which made the stay so special. Food at the restaurant was delicious, great breakfast selection and it was alot of fun having cocktails before dinner on the terrace while taking in the view. The staff were very lovely, professional and always willing to help. I was very sorry to leave and will definitely be back!

The Definition of "RAW Luxury" – Worth It||The word “RAW” really says it all. This is a truly unique hotel—wild and remote, yet incredibly warm when it comes to hospitality.|The service, views, and food are standouts. The rooms are spacious, super comfortable, and each features a private pool beautifully integrated into the surrounding natural landscape.|The food was excellent—easily the best on the island. Both breakfast and dinner à la carte were spot-on. Sitting outside on windy days can be a challenge, but that’s part of the hotel’s raw, untamed charm.|The free morning yoga sessions with Alex are a big plus and really enhance the wellness experience.|Special shout-out to Angelica, Balkis, and Pol—they were absolutely fantastic: attentive, efficient, and genuinely kind.|Gundari is a place I’d definitely return to the next time I’m in the Cyclades.

This resort is the perfect place to experience a smaller Greek island but with the service and quality you’d expect of a luxurious establishment. From the greeting when you arrive at the port, to the time you (sadly) leave, you are looked after by genuinely caring and accommodating staff.||The food is next level. Breakfast is very generous and can be ordered from 8-11:15am. Lunch can be by the pool, in room or in the restaurant enjoying the views. Dinner is special and we are in every night for that reason. The town also has options which came highly recommended by the staff.||We are an active family so the fact they had yoga classes, a well equipped gym and good tips for hiking was appreciated.||Alex and the spa team were delightful. The treatments were fantastic. The magnesium pool was rejuvenating and you can enjoy that anytime even without a treatment.||Beds and pillows were the best of any of the resorts we stayed in during our time in Greece.||The owner was here during our stay and he was friendly and personable and added to the welcoming vibe.||We would highly recommend staying here but book well in advance because it is popular and deservedly so!||Staff special mentions to Giannis and Angelica who went over and above for us
