30 Best Restaurants in Lisbon for Crispy Suckling Pig, Pastel de Natas, and Bifana Sandwiches | Condé Nast Traveler

"The Lisbon outpost of the London favorite brings modern Indian cooking with a Mediterranean twist, showcased in a window of gleaming fish you can select from. Algarve oysters arrive with pickled kachumber, wild Madagascar shrimp in a moreish roasted garlic–tomato dressing, and grilled stone bass with green coorgi sauce, alongside house classics like crispy shrimp toast and the show-stopping spicy lamb and vermicelli doughnut. It’s the kind of place for long evenings with friends, mopping up sauces and snacking on chaat over excellent local wines." - Abigail Malbon

We visited Gunpowder yesterday and were immediately welcomed with a big smile and seated at the bar. It was hard to choose because everything on the menu sounded delicious. In the end, we made our picks — and didn’t regret a single one! Each dish was bursting with flavor and absolutely delicious. The service was quick too — our first dishes arrived within minutes (even before our aperitif), but we actually like it when things move smoothly. The cocktails were tasty as well. From start to finish: great food and friendly, attentive service. Highly recommended!

Gunpowder was so good I came back for lunch and tried the rest of the staff's recommendations. As a solo traveler, it was refreshing to be offered small plates that I could order a couple of. It reminds a lot of Dishoom in London. The cuisine is a refined take on northern Indian with some Portuguese influences. Duck crepe with carrot salad was a delicious bite. Grilled artichokes had a great sauce that reminded me of mint chutney. Tuna croquettes were also fantastic. Perfectly crisp and moist with a coconut sauce. Tandoori chicken was served with a tangy slaw for contrast Rum bread pudding and fresh mint tea was a good finish. I also had the beef pepper fry which was by far the weakest dish and had not been proactively recommended by the staff. I guess I should know better than to order beef at an Indian restaurant. It was relatively flavorless and overcooked. Saffron rice was better than the beef dish... Chai was also yummy. They served it unsweetened with sugar and somehow I didn't get dairy cramps ymmv.

This establishment is a good restaurant that serves dishes with Indian spices, although the spice level has been adjusted to a milder level. We have sampled all of their starters, and they were all delightful, with the exception of the Garlic Squid and Gun Powder Chat. Some of the highlights include: Tandoori Chicken Chettinad Pulled Duck Karwari Crab Cooked and Pickled Oysters Spicy Lamb, though not overly spicy Fried Fish John Dory French Bean Pakoras

The food at this restaurant was outstanding, every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented, and the service was just as impressive. The staff were attentive, friendly, and genuinely made us feel welcome from start to finish. Combined with the warm atmosphere, it made for an excellent dining experience that I’d happily recommend to anyone looking for great food and top-quality service.

Simply stunning! I would recommend this place 10/10. My wife and I wanted to eat at a restaurant down the road, but it was closed, so we stumbled upon this gem by chance! The service was fast, friendly, and warm. The food was spectacular - their oyster happy hour had great quality oysters and wine for reasonable prices. Plus, I ate one of my top 3 favorite dishes of all time - The spiced lamb and vermicelli doughnut. Their food packs in so much flavor in such a small bite! What an absolute gem of an establishment. Try all of the foods, especially the spice lamb doughnut!

One of the best meals I’ve ever had. The interior and atmosphere are top notch, the service is fast and friendly, and the food is outstanding. The Chaat, Tadoori Chicken, Tamarind Pork, and Bread Pudding are must gets. Regarding portion sizes, I’d recommend 3 tapas and one biryani for 2 people. It will be more than enough. Couldn’t recommend this place more for a nice date night.

Hands down the best Indian fusion restaurant I’ve tried so far! They’ve nailed that sweet spot between authentic flavors and creative tapas-style dishes. Every bite was truly impressive. While the entire team, from the chefs to the staff, was excellent, a special shoutout goes to Vando. He made our evening exceptional. Warm, friendly, and attentive to every guest, he made us feel right at home—like we were dining at a friend’s place. Behind the bar and food counter, he was razor-sharp and incredibly efficient, all while being helpful across the board. This place absolutely deserves a Michelin star. 👏

This was our favourite dinner while visiting Lisbon. The waiters were very attentive and explained the dishes. The Algarve oysters were so fresh, and the mussels were so tasty. Definitely need bread to soak up all the sauce!
