Gunther Toody's is such a Colorado Classic! I love old diners like this. The old time atmosphere and celebration to 70's/80's music is such a treat! It really is a shame that the larger Gunther Toody's down by Cherry Creek is no longer around. This particular one is smaller and doesn't look inviting from outside, but on the inside, it's still a good place to go. They really could use a paint job on the outside and maybe some trees or other vegetation to make the exterior more inviting. If they did, this place could easily steal business from the ghetto IHoP across the way with poor service.
We entered here and are greeted by Elvis ;-). The staff wasn't at the host stand, but quickly noticed our entrance, greeted us and sat us quickly, with a smile. The place was well decorated and clean, no sticky icky tables like a lot of diner joints. We didn't wait long for service, got our drinks, and food shortly after. Each waitress has their own theme name, which is an awesome touch. They're also very pleasant and seem happy to be there. A MUCH older couple came in and sat near us, and the waitress was so kind to and extra helpful to them! What a treat to find staff that actually care about their job and the service they provide to others.
The food is classic diner, but also not greasy and overly oiled like many are. Coffee good, but water had a really bad taste to it for some reason. I don't know; it was like it was pulled out of the dish sink or something... Maybe they don't filter their drinking water? It just wasn't good at all. Outside of that, the food and experience was pretty good.
