South Sacramento Restaurants That Are Open for Takeout and Delivery | Eater SF

"Look, ma — no lines! Which means this is the perfect opportunity to indulge in Sacramento’s oldest ice cream parlor with a scoop of ice cream or their chocolate covered bon bons, mud pie on a stick, 50/50 fruit freezes, and banana splits. Curbside pickup is available, as well as delivery through Postmates, Grubhub, and DoorDash." - Illyanna Maisonet

Classic Sacramento Restaurants and Eateries to Try | Eater SF

"There’s pretty much a perma-line at Gunther’s, whether it’s during Sac’s mild winters or notoriously hot summers (it’s a dry heat!). Luckily, in 79 years they’ve figured out how to move the queue fast. Gunther’s has over 50 flavors, all with the superior taste and consistency that comes from a slow churn and high butterfat content. Pre-game for that banana split by ordering a simple sandwich on a squishy roll, and other highlights include the egg salad and olive and the wiener sandwich." - Becky Grunewald

50/50 fruit freeze is nice and fruity but not too icy. There is just enough ice cream sandwiched between the two freeze layers to enjoy the creaminess without getting grossed out (but maybe I’m just an odd one out). All of the flavors look so yum!

Google
This is the place to be to get a scoop or two of ice cream. Many flavors to choose from. The best place to cool off during the summer heat. Helpful staff too. Enjoy!

Gavin “GJM_reviews” Meichelbock

Google
It’s a solid scoop for a great price. This place is always packed but the line really moves, so A+ on the customer service end. It is also only $5 for a decent sized kiddy scoop. The ice cream is thick, creamy, rich in chocolate flavor, and I liked the bits of melted fudge mixed into it. However, I was not a fan of the walnuts and would have preferred brownie pieces for added texture. Gunther’s Ice Cream is good but didn’t knock my socks off.

Google
I love this Sacramento landmark and awesome place to go for their 50/50’s, omg I’m in heaven whenever I get one. After my son’s baseball game we decided to stop in for a treat. Kid got a cookies and cream shake, my daughter got a clown cone and a mini cone and my husband and I got a 50/50 strawberry with vanilla and a few nutty cones. We were so excited we forgot to take pics and just inhaled it all.

Google
What a great ice cream shop. Stopped here after dinner across the street. Prices are decent, service is great and serving sizes are generous!

Google
I came here on a Sunday evening during the long Memorial Day weekend. The line was halfway down the block but it moved quickly. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The ice cream is delicious and I would totally return. Parking was easy and we were also able to get a table to enjoy the ice cream.

Google
This place is great. It's small but you will find a number of different flavors of ice cream, shakes, Hawaiian ice & much more. Yesterday 5/14/25 we went during the day & got lucky, it was not that busy. Usually the line is always out the door, but the wait is worth it 😊 We ordered 50-50 Hawaiian Ice with Vanilla Ice Cream in the center 😋

Google
Late to the party but went recently. They run a really efficient operation. Even if you see a line out the door, they will get to you pretty fast so don't be discouraged! A libe that you'd imagine being 15-20 minutes long will be through in 5-10. Parking is a bit more difficult to find but there's a lot of street parking around. Ice cream is really thick and creamy, the fifty fifty is the way to go! Got a mango freeze/ice and green tea combo and it definitely hits with the heat. Can't recommend it enough.

Yelp
love the Gunther's freeze! I wanted to bring a treat to my PT, the staff is so supportive. Since it's been so Hot ... what better treat them Gunther's ? I bought 1/2 gallon of the strawberry freeze. I took that along with 1/2 gallon of vanilla ice cream and they made 50/50. OMG they love it! Most of them had never been there. Since then I've heard a few of the aides have gone and tried different flavors.

Yelp
Love this place!!! Seems like a go to for UOP kids. My bf brought me here and I loved it. The inside feels like a nostalgic beach side ice cream spot. The matcha ice cream I got was wonderful and the flavor really came through. The quality of the ice cream is wonderful. I love the seating outside and it gives off the perfect relaxing Sunday afternoon spot for a catch up with friends. I hope this place stays open for a very long time. Get: matcha single scoop. Double scoop may be a little hefty and cause you to find yourself struggling to finish.

Yelp
Super nice spot for heat in Sacramento. Nice combo option they have. 50-50, get fresh fruit ice cream with a scoop of their standard ice cream
google avatar

Yelp
This is my mom's favorite ice cream parlor, so when I came to visit she insisted we go. It's got that old vibey parlor feel. You can tell it's a quality place that cares about their recipe and has honed it over years. When we went there was hardly a line, plenty of people working so I got to sample a few things. Great service, Typical prices. I got taro. My mom's mission to to try every flavor one day. She says there are no misses. We grabbed a table outside on the sidewalk and enjoyed. They do have a customer bathroom outback. Not too bad. If I could recommend anything it would be a punch card to get your 10th scoop free!

Yelp
After a very long day in the office, I walk into Gunther's Ice Cream and am greeted with the most amazing smile and pleasant personality young man Nathaniel! Nathaniel, first ask me how was my day! Not knowing that I had the longest and most frustrating day ever. Just by his one question, of him asking me, how my day went made everything BETTER! He was an incredibly awesome human just for that simple gesture, amongst the many people waiting in line to take their orders. I told him, "he made my day!" To keep up the fantastic customer service! I received five star treatment today! My ice cream was delicious and the ambiance was a warm summer night!

Yelp
We went to Gunther's Ice Cream after dinner on a Friday evening. The line was long but moved fairly fast. The location has very minimal parking for the amount of business around, so we drove around a bit and found a spot close by. The place is full of nostalgia. It looks clean and well-stocked, and the employees are helpful and patient when taking orders. The ice cream is incredible--we got cookies & cream and mint chip in a waffle cone. Just one scoop was plenty. They have some outdoor seating, but we took our ice cream to go as it was very hot outside. I can't wait to go back and try other flavors!.

Yelp
I have been going here ever since I was a little kid and I am still going there till this day. Best ice cream place ever in Sacramento! The 50/50 freezes is the best item to get here and you will not be disappointed. Inside is super small and lines are always out the door. Parking can sometimes take a while because this place gets busy. There is a bunch of street parking around the area and only about 10 parking spaces in front of the restaurant
google avatar

Anna O.

Yelp
We walked in on a very hot day. It was busy but the lines moved along fast. There's a lot of seating on and around the building tables with shades. I ordered coconut and pineapple ice cream and it was the best one I've ever tried in the Sacramento area. It's creamy very tasteful. My husband had the fruit freeze with half pineapple and half orange. The pineapple was full of pineapple pieces. He loved it. Very refreshing on a hot day!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for the first time after passing by the lines of people for months and I can now say I see why this place always has a massive line. As someone who isn't necessarily an ice cream person I hear here with a friend with the intention of sipping on my water and enjoying the sun: (INSERT) FRUIT FREEZE!! My oh my I got rainbow sherbet, mango, and guava..... talk about a party in my mouth. I ordered a small which was more than enough to satisfy my taste for a sweet summer treat. For the price and the size u can't complain. U will definitely be giving this place another try sometime in the near future

Yelp
A Sacramento landmark for good reason! It's been years since I've stopped in but recently we got the chance to visit while in town. It's definitely got that neighborhood mom and pop shop kind of feel, which is something that's always welcome. And the "neighborhood" definitely comes out to support Gunther's! The line snaked out of the building and down the street for about a block. It took us a little over 20 minutes to order and it was a bit chaotic inside but it's worth the wait. The menu has a great selection- you can get your normal cones/cups of ice cream, they have premade stuff (ice cream sandwiches, chocolate bananas, other treats on a stick), but this time I opted for a 50/50, which is a fruit freeze with a layer of ice cream. I got the guava and mango 50/50 and it was amazing! Definitely wish I was in the area to partake more of this frozen goodness!
google avatar

Jenny K.

Yelp
A must-have if you are in the area! I love getting their 50/50. My personal favorite flavors are the guava and mango with either green tea or vanilla ice cream. The line can get long and sometimes out the door but it does moves fast. I only had to wait about 10-15 min to order and get my ice cream. There is no seating inside and limited tables outside. The lot is very small but there is plenty of street parking available.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here on a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was very busy. The line was out the door but the wait to place our order was like 10 mins. The inside of the restaurant was very old school and cute. I ordered a double scoop of the chocolate chip cookie and double chocolate. The flavor of the ice cream was pretty good and overall was a satisfying visit.
google avatar

Juliet C.

Yelp
My sister recommended Gunther's ice cream to me and it was beyond amazing! I got the 50/50 Freeze with pineapple, vanilla ice cream, and mango. I love ice cream but some places are way too sugary. This freeze was not overly sweet, just the right amount! The fruit flavor didn't taste artificial and complimented the thickness/creaminess of the vanilla ice cream so well.
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
Good ice cream but it does have a line all the time. Get the mango puree with vanilla ice cream. Logistics: -accepts cc -outdoor seating -has 1 unisex bathroom -plenty of street parking

Yelp
Guenther's Ice Cream Parlor is an absolute gem in our neighborhood! From the moment you walk in, you're welcomed by the nostalgic charm of a classic ice cream shop. The staff are wonderful--friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to recommend a flavor. Their passion for great ice cream really enhances the experience. It's a vibe! Whether you're a local or just visiting, Guenther's Ice Cream Parlor is a must-visit. It's more than just an ice cream shop; it's a beloved part of the community. Highly recommend! Check out what I tried!

Yelp
Love this place a lot. It's a must visit whenever we're in Sacramento. There's always a line but it moves super quick. They have outdoor seatings with umbrella to cover you from the hot sun. Lots of delicious flavors to choose. Must try freeze fruit and 50-50's.
google avatar

Yelp
A YEAR ROUND CLASSIC! Gunther's is simply a must for anyone residing in Sacramento, passing by, or visiting. Who doesn't love amazing ice cream? But to top it off, they are home to the Real Fruit Freezes! These are fresh, icy soft flavors. You can make it a 50/50 and have it with a scoop of ice cream and it's majestic. This visit, I got the strawberry banana freeze with vanilla ice cream. Super simple but so good. As for the location, there is street parking and limtied spots in front of the storefront. Seating is also limited inside and they have tables and chairs all aound the outside. The line is always quick. You get to the cashier to place your order, then you can wait outside for them to call your order number. The staff is always well educated on the menu, kind, and welcoming. They really do deserve all the hype!

Yelp
Gunther's has been my favorite ice cream since middle school in the 90's. When I was pregnant with my son, I ate these 50/50 fruit freezes almost every day during the summer! The flavors are so fresh, just like biting into a ripe mango picked straight from the tree. nothing compares and the real reason this place stays busy. Today they had about 20 teens working so the line moved fast. The outside seating was full of families eating their Gunther's icecream, the laughter from the kids was nostalgic, reminding me of my childhood and how carefree we all were. This is a small ice cream parlor so the inside benches have been removed to accommodate the growing crowds. The menu has every flavor of ice cream and freezes that you could dream of but my favorite is mango and raspberry. Don't miss out on Gunther's, make a trip or stop by if you're in town, you will be glad you did.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try out Gunther's and finally came around to it this weekend! My friend who had been multiple times in the past had recommended the fruit freeze 50/50 which they are known for along with their ice cream. When we arrived the line was out the door but they were efficient and we reached the cashier in less than 15 minutes to order. I ordered the 50/50 fruit freeze with Strawberry, Mango and Vanilla Ice Cream in between. The cashier had said that other common ice cream flavors to mix in were coconut, green tea and taro - we decided Vanilla would still be the best mix. After ordering we went outside as they have lots of outdoor seating available and waited for them to call our orders through the intercom. The order was ready in about 15 minutes. The mango flavor was on the sweeter side but it was still super tasty. I really loved the strawberry flavor mixed with the vanilla ice cream, it was extremely refreshing and I'd definitely go back again! Their ice cream flavors looked super delicious so that's definitely something I'll try next time.

Yelp
Love a mom and pop ice cream shop! Gunther's is an institution and are you even from Sacramento if you've never visited?! You can't miss Gunther's - the giant neon sign on top of the building could be seen from space. Ok, I'm being a bit dramatic, but you get my point. Upon entering, they have a display case that has frozen treats, it isn't the most appealing looking, but looks can be deceiving. The case looked like it needed a good cleaning, but the treats inside looked tasty. They have a whole bunch of ice cream flavors to choose from - even seasonal ones. My daughter went with the Birthday Cake and I went with the Mocha Almond Fudge. My husband took home a few of the chocolate covered cherries. There are a few tables inside, but they also offer seating outside which I prefer since the inside can get a bit congested once it gets bumpin'. Service is usually friendly and they know how to handle a crowd, especially during those hot summer months. The colder months do not slow down the crowds though as it always seems to be busy when we drive by. You can buy gallons of ice cream plus chocolate covered fruit and even cheesecake!
google avatar

Taylor M.

Yelp
Great ice cream! It's creamy and wonderful-depending on which flavor you get. They have about 50 different flavors of ice cream to choose from. This keeps you coming back to try more. The service is quick. They are pricey here. Their taro ice cream is really sweet. The green tea ice cream is alright, tasting similar to the Hagen daas green tea ice cream. The toasted almond ice cream is sweet with sliced almonds in it. Their strawberry ice cream might be my favorite. I'm usually not a huge fan of strawberry ice cream either. Their strawberry ice cream doesn't have huge chunks of strawberries but small strawberry bits on it. It's a small shop but there is seating outside. Parking is street parking-parallel parking.

Yelp
Whenever my mom is in town (which is practically never), she has a list of certain places she has to visit to eat and drink. Gunther's always makes the list. My mom's favorite order is the Lemon Custard in a waffle cone, while my favorite order is a cup of Lemon Custard paired with Swiss Orange Chip. These days, you can find Gunther's at coffee and dessert shops all over the greater Sacramento area, but nothing is as good as ordering it fresh from the shop. In fact, I only order the Lemon Custard flavor when I can get it straight from the source. After a day or two in the carton, it starts to develop ice crystals, which affect the texture and flavor. So, it's highly preferable to order it directly from Gunther's (where it sells out too fast to go bad). The line is usually long, and often stretches out onto the street, but it moves pretty quickly. I don't think I've ever waited longer than about ten minutes in line. Gunther's sells hand-packed pints and quarts of ice cream, but, in my experience, the texture seems to change after a day or two in the freezer at home, especially once it's opened. Recently, I was in the area, so I decided to stop by. As you can see from the pictures, I ordered my favorite order, which is a cup of Lemon Custard with Swiss Orange Chip. It was perfect, as usual.
google avatar

Maikhanh H.

Yelp
Gunther's is a nice old style ice cream shop. Although the line was long, it moved by quite fast and we got our dessert fairly quickly. There were a good amount of seatings outside as well. We ordered a fruit freeze and chose the pineapple and strawberry banana and substituted the vanilla ice cream for birthday cake. The fruit freeze did not taste artificial and was very authentic with a nice sorbet texture that was not too icy. The ice cream was nice and creamy and birthday cake flavor was very delicious. I would highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Its delicious ice cream and fruit freeze options make this place a Sacramento staple! Winter or summer, this place always has customers constantly coming in for another yummy bite. As a huge fan of cookies and cream, I am always ordering this but friends enjoys many of their other flavors. Keep in mind this place is a bit small with outdoor seating only. During the summer there are very long lines.
google avatar

Evangelina B.

Yelp
Delicious!! I was in town visiting friends and they recommended coming here for dessert. The weather wasn't really in our favor as it was raining so we thought it would be an advantage and there would be no line, we were wrong! There was a bit of a line but it moved very fast as the crew was pumping out orders. I can imagine when the weather is very nice there is a longer wait. I ordered a one scoop rocky road sundae with butterscotch and peanuts on top. It was delicious! I love butterscotch and it's not always available at ice cream parlors. As soon as I ate the first bite I could instantly taste the marshmallow, it tasted fresh and made in house. I almost regret not getting two scoops! I inhaled it! They also offer milkshakes and even sandwiches! I highly recommend their business!
google avatar

Feng-Ju L.

Yelp
They have so many flavors of ice cream to choose from. I ordered taro and caramel crunch. Caramel crunch is the flavor of the month. I really like the caramel crunch; it's creamy and delicious, and it pairs really well with the crispy waffle bowl. The service is great; each scoop of ice cream is solid and big. The shop has a retro vibe. They have many pictures on the wall that tell the history of the shop. Overall, it was a very nice ice cream place, and I would definitely come back to try other flavors of ice cream.
google avatar

Diane R.

Yelp
This ice cream place has been successfully in operation for 84 years for a reason. I love the great variety of fruit ices and ice cream that they make in house. On a rainy day there was no line but in the summer the line snakes around the block. You stand in line to get a sample and order. The selection is great! So many things to choose from.
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
If you've lived in the Sacramento area, you've heard of Gunther's and if you've visited your friends or family have most likely taken you here or told you how great it is while at a restaurant that serves it. If you haven't heard of it, there's no time like right this moment! Gunther's is a cute ice cream store that serves up high quality ice cream in many flavors as well as their Real Fruit Freezes and the 50/50 which is fruit freeze and ice cream (so good). They also create sundaes and have ice cream treats in their cold case and you can buy ice cream in containers in pints, quarts, half gallons, gallons and three gallon containers! They have online ordering as well as pretty efficient on person ordering, even when it's busy. My favorite thing to order is a chocolate malt (I know boring, but it's so good) I also like trying different flavors and whatever the seasonal option is and their 50/50s with different flavor combinations. They also have sandwiches on the menu and I need to try one because I feel like they get overlooked and I need to know how they are! Parking can be tricky during the busiest times of the year but typically you can find street parking pretty easily or park right by the business.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Extremely busy on a holiday weekend, but we didn't have to wait too long for our order. Gunther's ice cream flavors are consistent and so fresh. This is definitely my go-to ice cream shop whenever I have visitors in town or craving some really good ice cream
google avatar

Desirée K. H.

Yelp
Sacramento staple! Lots of history and memories made at Gunther's. Although you'll find lots of restaurants also serving Gunther's, nothing compares to the original location. If you are arriving at peak times, expect a 20+ minute wait either in line and/or for your order to be called out. Parking can be found in the neighboring residential area. You can purchase any flavor of ice cream in a pint, quart, or gallon to take home. My favorite thing to order is either the Butter Brickle (for toffee lovers) or a 50/50 freeze (Mango, French Vanilla center, Strawberry).
google avatar

Anjali M.

Yelp
The fruit freeze was well worth it and much better than the standard ice cream flavors that the rest of my party got. The line moved incredibly quickly, they have a system!

Kristal R.

Yelp
It was my first time trying the 50/50 combo with lime and raspberry flavors and it was the perfect touch of sweet and tart. The line was out the door per a typical triple digit day in Sac but the line quickly moved along. I sure hope these kids are making the tips they deserve! My boyfriend brought me here because he said he's never seen a person depressed while eating ice cream, so ice cream it was! I'm glad he made me come. :)
google avatar

Gary W.

Yelp
I've never had a 50/50 before, so to be educated on a warm summer day what a creamsicle should really taste like (guava, coconut ice cream) was the highlight.
google avatar

Yelp
===== [Overview] ===== When I think of a Sacramento staple, I think of Gunther's as one of the places any newcomers should try. During the summers, Sacramento does get warm and this ice creamery is the place you should go to. ==================== ===== [Restaurant] ==== This place is situated on the corner of the street and easy to find. There is always a line to get in whether it's a hot and sunny day or a cold and windy night. This place is just so delicious their desserts are the perfect choice for a sweet and guilty pleasure. There is not a lot of parking, but luckily, there is a neighborhood nearby you can park at. It feels safe and it feels comfortable. They have no seating inside but they do have tables and chairs (some with umbrellas) for you to enjoy your ice cream at. Once you reach the front, you order and pay. Then you slowly make your way to the second line to get your ice cream. ==================== ======= [Food] ======= This place has a lot of variety for flavors and choices, including fruit freezes. I honestly have never had any bad choices but I do continuously go back to their rich and smooth ice cream selection. They do offer free samples! Recommendations: - Pistachio Nut - Pecan Pralines - Taro - Peppermint Stick - Thai Tea - Maple Nut ====================

Yelp
Cute old timey ice cream spot. Very friendly staff to first time patrons. I tried a scoop peanut butter cup and a scoop of butter pecan in a bowl. They were both amazing and hit the spot on a hot Sacramento day.
google avatar

Aria C.

Yelp
I miss when Gunther's was open late. Can't go wrong with any flavor but the majority of us come here for the 50/50. It's pretty enjoyable even on a cold weather month. Parking is a bit of a hassle but it's worth it.
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
Expect a wait out the door-- We had an extended family Gunther's visit (7 plus a baby) after dinner on a Thursday night. The line was long! Once you order, the ice cream comes out quickly. There are a ton of flavors to pick from, and you can ask for samples. They also make these mini cones and bon bons that you can see in this display case, and those mini cones were the perfect size for a small child (2-4 years old) or someone who doesn't want a large portion of ice cream
google avatar

Libby G.

Yelp
Don't let the line turn you away! Some of the best flavor ice cream! All the workers are sweet, has a smile on their face and helpful! We went Gunther's two days in a row, BING CHERRY IS THE BEST! We got the Oreo pie, chocolate covered banana, chocolate covered cherries, cookies & cream! Waffle cone is very light and taste amazing Inside is a bit small so after you order just wait outside for your number to get outside of the way Sac has some amazing ice cream places and this is a most try!
google avatar

Stacy G.

Yelp
Along with Vic's, Gunther's is a classic, old-school ice cream parlor. No seating inside and usually a long line, but it's a Sacramento institution! Lots of options that are ice cream-adjacent too, like fruit freezes and frozen treats like ice cream sandwiches, frozen banana, etc.
google avatar

Jisun L.

Yelp
Line was long but service was real fast. Great ice cream flavors as well. Recommend if u r near by. So worth a visit
google avatar

Suzy S.

Yelp
We had to try Gunther's when 'Food and Wine' proclaimed it as the #1 ice cream in CA. Everything they said is true!! Rich, creamy and wonderful! So far we have enjoyed Bing Cherry, Coconut Pineapple (him), Butter Brickel, and Toasted Almond for me. Two scoops is a lot of ice cream goodness. I thought I'd never say just one scoop from now on, but I did! It may take us years to work down the extensive list of flavors, but I'm up for it!
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
My first time at Gunther's didn't disappoint. T was telling me this is the only location and only in Sac. They have plenty of customers. The line gets long but moves fast. They have freezes you can get with vanilla ice cream in the middle. Tons of ice cream flavors. No vegan ice cream I believe - just freeze options for any vegans. I may have had my first banana split, too. You can choose 3 ice cream flavors, 3 drizzles too (hot fudge, chocolate, strawberry, butterscotch, caramel). With nuts, whipped topping, and a cherry on top. Each of the ice cream scoops are smaller than the single - perhaps a kiddie sized scoop? They're generous with the toppings, so we ended up getting a single scoop to eat with the remaining drizzles. Strawberry came with a few pieces of real strawberry. Oreo cookie was delicious - lots of Oreo. Toasted almond was also very good. They have many tables and chairs available in the front, side, and even around back and a nice mural in the back, too. Shout out to Kaelah for great service and making our night! The ice cream was delicious but your service makes us for sure want to come back.

Yelp
We were craving for Gunther's 50/50 Fruit Freeze during last weekend's heat wave. The line was at the door when we arrived at 5:00. This queue however went faster as they've added cashiers by taking out the in-door tables. We sat outside at the back of the shop where it was shaded from the afternoon sun. They had murals done in this area of the store which was a perfect backdrop for ice cream pics. Our 50/50 fruit freeze blends were good enough for us to forget that summer was still here to swelter.

Yelp
5 stars !! I love this place. My go-to for dessert. My favorite is their mango half and half. This place is so good that it is ALWAYS packed. Service is pretty reasonable and quick for the amount of people they have at all times. The inside is very small there's a few booths but there is also outdoor seating. The line is always out the door so it's a little bit of a wait but it's worth it! Love this place
google avatar

Melissa S.

Yelp
The line was all the way around the corner on a warm Saturday evening. But the line moves very fast I think we waited under 10 mins. So many flavors to choose from and don't get me started on the quantity you def get your money worth. Service is quick. Def coming back.

Yelp
Yum! I don't try dessert places often in Sac since I don't live directly in the area. However, it's always fun whenever I do. We wanted to try out Gunther's since it's been years since I've last had it. There's street parking around the business and it's buzzing with a bunch of families who are looking for a cold treat on a Friday afternoon. We got the 50/50, with guava and mango. The fruity flavors remind me a lot of those Kern nectar juices that you'd get for sale at a local grocery store. I was immediately hit with that similar flavor and it was amazing. I'd come back here solely for the fruit sorbets. The vanilla ice cream was great, super thick and creamy which was a bit different for me because I'm usually used to eating a thinner consistency (either soft serve or frozen ice cream). Either way, it was great paired with the fruity flavors and gives off a great summer vibe. I understand why a lot of people would come here with the heat that creeps around Sacramento. Try this place out! It might be your next favorite spot!

Yelp
Well, finally made it to Gunther's! Last time the line was out the door and down the street. Wonderful ice cream. The line wasn't too long, just out the door. Moved pretty quick and we were able to get a table outside. Nice to see a business thriving. Lots of flavors to choose from, but I went with my usual flavor, chocolate chip in a two scoop cup. Katie ordered the same in a waffle cone. Sorry, no pics!

Yelp
Gunther's is such a memorable place for me. I was first introduced to Gunther's during my college days and recently returned, and it's just as good, maybe even better than I remembered. In addition to regular ice cream scoops, Gunther also serves milkshakes, floats and sodas, sundaes, cakes and pies, sandwiches, and my favorite the 50/50 fruit freeze! Highly recommended trying. I've only gotten to try maybe a quarter of their flavors from their menu and my favorites include the Coffee, Thai Tea, and Black Raspberry Oreo. Staff has always been friendly and efficient in managing the long weekend lines. There are plenty of outdoor seatings and the street parking hasn't been an issue for us. If you're in the area or passing through Sacramento, definitely make a stop by Gunther's! You won't regret it!

Yelp
I took my family here after dinner. We wanted to try this place out because the foodies were hyping it up, and we wanted to see what the hype was all about. Unfortunately, it was all hype. We drove 1.5 hours, and I probably will not drive back here. The ice cream wasn't anything special, I thought it would be creamier. My hubby purchased the 50/50 Fruit freeze, we were new, so we asked if any ice cream was possible, and the cashier said yes. He asked for Coconut Ice Cream with guava and Strawberry, what he got was guava, vanilla ice cream, and mango. The guava was pretty watered down. The fruit freeze was definitely not as great as all these people say it is. The mango tasted like the pureed baby Gerber food. I really wanted to like this place, I hate that all these foodies hype these places up, but this is why my hubby and I try places for ourselves most times because foodies do not know how to review things well.
