"Surrounded by nothing but fields and livestock, this dog-friendly pub sports shabby-chic décor, blazing fires and a relaxed, cosy feel. The unfussy, classically based dishes are all the better for their simplicity; if the chefs have got a fresh, sweet fillet of megrim sole, for example, then they wisely don't get in the way of its natural flavours. The wine list is concise yet contains a good selection by the glass and spotlights interesting, lesser-known choices. Compact, antique-furnished bedrooms are available." - Michelin Inspector

The Gurnards Head, Zennor, Cornwall - Explore & Book

"You can’t miss this gorse-yellow building, perched somewhat precariously on a bend in the road, its name proudly emblazoned on the roof. Despite the brash exterior, you'll feel yourself relax as soon as you walk through the door. Laid back and low key, the bar looks like it’s been here for years - but in the best way. Stone floors, log fires, books and newspapers all invite you to make yourself at home. The adjacent dining room is renowned for its fabulous fresh, seasonal menu, although dinner and breakfast can also be taken in the main bar area if you prefer. With 8 simple country-style bedrooms and limited phone signal, this is a great spot for a romantic weekend away or exploring Cornwall’s glorious coastal walks – switch off, kick back and relax. Whichever you come for, owners Charles and Edmund Inkin and their friendly staff offer the same cheery welcome and simple-things-done-well philosophy as at their sister pubs, The Felin Fach Griffin and The Old Coastguard. Highs The untamed coastal setting, which quickly works its restorative magicCool in summer and cosy in winter, the pub has an alluring atmospheric charm - locals and visitors mingle over well-priced ales and an eclectic wine listLeave any diet at home, the food is so fab you'll want to indulge! Also, guests arriving via the overnight sleeper train get a free breakfast - just let them know you're comingThe understyled and unpretentious interior is a welcome relief after so many homogenized designer hotelsA technology-free zone - unreliable mobile reception means it’s very peaceful... Lows Although it can be tricky if you need to stay connected. There is WiFi but it can be patchy from time to timeDogs are welcome in all bedrooms and the dining room: if you are allergic, then this may be an issueRooms are on the small side and storage is limited; fine for a short break, but if you prefer to spread out opt for the Best Double" - Cat Martin

Absolutely incredible modern cuisine. Decent vegan and gluten-free options, well labelled on the menu. I had Korean-style crispy tofu and battered mushroom to start and a Middle-Eastern inspired crispy aubergine and tahini. Great selection of wines, cocktails and spirits. Friendly service. Great spot for a celebratory dinner (as it's very expensive!)

My husband and I have just returned from a 2 night stay here - first time guests! We enjoyed a very relaxing experience. The annexe room was comfortable - good bed, well furnished with a roomy bathroom and it and the shower room and loo were clean , as was the bedroom and very well presented. The toiletries provided were gorgeous. The log burner was much appreciated. The menus excellent and last but not least, the staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. Easy parking. Hope to return.

Gurnard Head sits in a striking, slightly offbeat corner of Cornwall, where the landscape feels alive and the pace slower. The team delivers hospitality with precision and warmth—attentive without ever being overbearing. The food stands out: thoughtful combinations and local ingredients make each dish purposeful and memorable. Service is consistently seamless, letting the experience unfold naturally. It’s a stay that feels considered at every level, from the rooms to the table, and one that stays with you after you leave.

I have wanted to stay here for ages. Beautiful and remote in such a gorgeous place in|Cornwall. We stayed for a couple of nights. The room was quite basic. The mirror is placed for someone about 6ft tall and at 5’4” I could barely see my hair. We had a creature moving around during the night which I recorded the scratching on my phone at 2.00am and still at 3.30. It’s no big deal because it on the moors and we live in an old farmhouse ourselves and that’s what happens in the countryside in old houses sometimes. I told housekeeping and thankfully I didn’t hear it the following night. However having been kept awake almost all night we went out the next day. We came home very tired and cold to|find no hot water. This was sorted by the next morning and although these things happen I did feel that we could have been offered a small reduction on the £395.00 charge for 2 night B&B.Its very overpriced for what’s on offer. Having holiday cottages ourselves I would have compensated for our experience. The food is lovely and nice staff. Wouldn’t stay there again.

Unfortunately, our lunch experience didn’t match the other positive reviews here. It started well; a lovely looking pub in a beautiful wild coastal setting, and the service was warm and friendly. But the food is extremely expensive, fish & meat mains £32-£38 plus sides at around £6 each. The area we were sat in was very chilly and we needed to wear our coats, and the lamb was sent back as chewy and fatty. I had brill which was average and drowning in creamy sauce. It was supposed to be a treat for my parents in law, and they didn’t enjoy the food or ambiance. We only visit Cornwall once a year pr so, and this was our only meal out this time. Very disappointed.

Delicious food - perfect after the long hike from St Ives to Zennor (plus an additional 30 mins to walk to the restaurant). The soup was heartwarming and came with bread and a generous slab of butter on top. I really enjoyed the excellent Mediterranean spices in the crispy aubergine dish.

Perfect. Very comfortable rooms for such an old building. Great food, drink and atmosphere. Always a warm welcome from the lovely staff. Spectacular location.

Stayed four nights. Room: very good; breakfast: very good. Restaurant: overpriced, and food disappointing. Limited choices and fish very over-seasoned. Items on the menu misrepresented: the "Somerset Brandy" turned out to be Calvados from Brittany. Somewhat resent paying thirty pounds for a mediocre bottle of French wine (export only -- not for sale in France!) that would cost about three or four euros in France (where I live) but that's, probably, just me.||The whole experience seemed somewhat overpriced but that's probably how it is nowadays.

Yelp
We stayed at hotel for 4 nights. High levels of noise until close to midnight all but 2 night. Rooms are over the pub, and that should be made known @booking. They were unwilling to change our room. The bathroom/towel heater was broken whole time. Breakfast good, as was dinner but a surprise service fee for dinner appeared at check out. Again, this should be made explicit. On the whole overpriced and mediocre or less room.

Yelp
This was an amazing recommendation for modern cuisine in Cornwall. I had the marinated anchovies and the cured gurnard, and they were easily the best dishes I've had in Cornwall. My dining partner had the set lunch of onion and thyme soup and lamb. Both were amazing. This place is worth the cost and the drive.

Yelp
I used to enjoy and love this place. Being in Cornwall again last week a friend asked me if I wanted to go for a meal and we decided to try Gurnard Head again. We drove up on Monday afternoon 25th Oct to book a table, for Tuesday night. The front window is FULL of Michelin, recommended stickers, and every other possible award or recommendation possible, in fact so many it looks a mess. Is it me? Have I got two heads? No, but they are so rude, unhelpful and would go as far as to say they look at you as if you are so beneath them they do not even want to speak to you. My friend (who is an actor and the friendliest person you could meet) spoke to the bar staff, asking if it was possible to book a table, (so it is not just me) the end result was he said did not want to book after how we were spoken to by the staff. We were told we could ONLY book for 8.30, not, we are sorry that is the only space we have etc as most restaurants would do, we asked to see a menu, and were told no, as it changes every day!! They just seem so unwilling to treat you as a customer more as an inconvenience to them. We asked about eating in the bar, and they said at the bar we said no at a table in the bar, and the barman snapped in the bar at a table same thing, well unless you check it you may end up eating at the bar, there is no need to be so snappy and rude. It is too late to arrive to find you are having a meal actually sitting at the bar What a way to run a business, do the owners know? I wanted to eat and spend money with them, but was driven away by attitude. Why would you spend money in a place that treats you like that? The young blond tall barman we dealt with made us feel we were not welcome, and spoke to us like dirt, we had a coffee and left, have they no idea how to serve customers, do they care? I think not, they seem to have so many reviews that they do not care, I wish I could witness the Michelin reviewers visits, as they must know who they are, as no way on earth is this a friendly place. The bar looked very tatty, I would hope it is called shabby chic, but think it is more just tatty, worn and shabby. On a positive note a young chef came to the bar to check the evenings bookings and he smiled over at us, and a customer passing through asked him if he was the chef and complemented him on the fabulous meal they had just had. My question to the owners is, are you aware how many customers are being driven away by your rude staff, or are the rude staff the owners? We went away and went to a different restaurant, and had a great meal and friendly service. Best to stay away from Gurnard Head, far better and friendlier places to eat in Cornwall.

Yelp
In the back of beyond, this is a destination in its own right. Good food and ale, with tables in the garden. This is a great place for lunch before or after a walk along the spectacular cliffs. Simple tasty lunches have included tomato pappardelle; beer battered hake and chips; braised lamb with chard & polenta. All about £7-10. Traditional pub lunches like ploughmans £5.50; 1/2 pint prawns, bread, mayonnaise £3.

Yelp
This is a really smashing pub ... but if you want to eat you have to book in advance, especially in the busy season. If you turn up out of the blue (walking along the coastal path for example) they may be able to fit you in, but will not do so at the expense of the other booked customers. The food is tasty, the wine and beer good and we found the staff very friendly. Walked here across the fields from Zennor and came back we liked it so much. If you are staying in or near St Ives, try to come and eat here - but book ahead.

Yelp
The decor is lovely. It is a modern take on how an English pub should be. The drinks are all great - I had a very local cider from st burryan (excuse the spelling). My parents go here a lot for lunch and tell me that they do a very good deal in a three course meal..... I think perhaps if I had ordered something different then this place may have scored higher in the stars department....I ordered the gnocchi (one of my favourite things to order in most places) and it was just plain weird!!!!! They put it with broccoli, peas and onions and the flavours just did not go well together...as for the gnocchi itself it was home made but the consistency was like an undercooked lump of mashed potato. Please gurnards head....take this off the menu and let's try again cos it was RUBBISH!!!!!

Yelp
This is an amazing gastro pub and deserves it's accolades. We stayed for 3 nights. Lovely fires, friendly staff, and the food is simply wonderful. The location is stunning. Cornwall at it's best !
