Guru Donuts

My sister and I stopped in while visiting Boise for a couple of days. The donuts were fabulous - such great choices! The staff were all helpful and friendly and the space itself is fun and a great place to just hang around. I loved the pistachio and my sister loved her bananas foster donut.

Absolutely delicious!! The gluten free donuts were so light and fluffy it almost makes you concerned they mixed them up with regular donuts! Cute shop and nice workers. The service was very slow and I had to wait in line for over 20 minutes but very tasty! They don’t change gloves or anything though so there is lots of cross contamination.

It has been forever since I have had a donut from Guru. I don't think I have been in since the remodel. Guru was a hit at my wedding! Instead of cake I had a variety of donuts. Everyone couldn't get enough of them. It was later in the afternoon when I stopped in. I was in the area. I wanted a sweet treat so it was only common sense to come in. Since it was later in the afternoon, there were still a couple donut options available but not a lot. A couple sprinkled donuts, chocolate glazed rounds, chocolate bars and some coconut ones. Honestly, they all still looked hella good. I snagged a small chocolate glazed donut. It had fun sprinkles on top. The shop was getting ready to close in about 30. I sat at the window and smashed out my donut. I'm sure it was made this morning but it was still soft. It tasted so good! I probably could have had a couple more but I only needed one. I don't remember the donuts being as small as they are. This donut was pretty small but the ones I've had in the past seemed bigger. It has been a while since I have been in so I could be wrong. Eating that donut today brought me back to my wedding day. I can vividly remember how excited everyone was grabbing a donut from the "cake" table. It's amazing how something as simple as a donut could make someone relive some of their best memories. I'm happy I stopped in today. It was a great way to add a little happiness to my day.

Is it normal for a donut shop to break up your donut just to make it fit in a box? Like… did they run out of smaller boxes for three large donuts, or was this a creative choice? To make things even better, I ordered a chocolate old-fashioned. Maybe I confused the cashier when I asked him to change his gloves after handling cash? They definitely had larger boxes sitting right there—but hey, maybe those are reserved for people classy enough to only order two donuts.

Overall this place is great! Great service and lots of seating. Only giving it 4/5 stars though because I didn’t love the chocolate donut that I ordered (a little too dark chocolate-y for me but maybe someone else will like it).

Just loved hanging out on a cold January morning. I had a delicious avocado toast and a large mocha which was out of this world! The two gals that worked here were friendly and welcoming. And avocado toast was extraordinary. Would definitely come back here again. They have a large space and it’s conducive to kids too. Highly recommend this establishment. The donuts looked exceptional and they’re all specialty. There are gluten-free options with potato donuts, which I love.

My husband and I stopped in this morning and I’m so glad we did! The donuts were outstanding and the bacon egg and cheese sandwich was one of the best I’ve ever had! Was delighted that they had coffee as well. The service was friendly and fast, we found our new breakfast spot in Boise!

We drove out to Boise today because we saw they had a gluten free donut selection. I have celiac disease and so we made it a fun family trip. I also have a dairy allergy, but there is nowhere to read ingredients. There was one vegan option, but I didn’t need vegan just gf/df which left “the impossible” out of a big selection. My family was able to enjoy the regular donuts, they said they were good. But the gal was hesitant to even try to call management to figure out where Ingredients were for the gf selection. She then called and was like “yeah I guess they all have dairy” She seemed so annoyed when we wanted to eat in store, given they close at 4 and we were there shortly after 3. The impossible donut was hard as a rock, I had to use two hands just to break it in half. And it was flavorless. I ate a bite and found it Super disappointing. I was so excited, TikTok seemed to pump it up for GF community, but this was a huge bummer. You can see in the picture how hard I’m squeezing it and it doesn’t even bend. Is this normal?

Really wish I could give 2.5 stars, because I have some Jekyll and Hyde feeling on Guru. The good. If you have allergies. There is no better place for donuts. I appreciate their efforts here and I suspect it's a top reason many choose to come here. Additionally, the staff is willing to ensure cross contamination is not an issue via new gloves, new sheet, clean boxes, etc. And the donuts themselves are very good. This place is really good for those that want a donut without risking anaphylactic issues. The bad. Starting with "to go" donuts, they stack the donuts. I acknowledge there is no way to ensure donuts don't touch (and this is not about the allergies, they will definitely put those in separate boxes), but some of their donuts have juicy or otherwise easily transferred toppings. Although delicious, especially if you like that flavor, they become inedible if you don't. Another inconvenience is the bathroom. It's not in the restaurant, rather, it is down some stairs, down a hall, and you must remember to get the key (not the most welcoming walk). Finally, parking. It's not great. There's paid parking in a few areas, but not always convenient. In the end, Guru is solid, and I would recommend it. But I'd also recommend targeting your visit when you are on foot in town, when you have time to eat there, and preferably find a restroom in advance.

Guru donuts is always consistent. Always fresh in the morning with lots of choices. The breakfast burrito is delicious. Ordered avocado toast for takeout, and they gave me a breakfast sandwich instead. Didn't realize it till I got home. Was delish though.

Yum! Guru is a downtown Boise staple! I've been going since they were located on Capitol Street. Their new location in the Idanha bon Main Street is more spacious. My go to is the hipsterberry. My husband loves the Boston cream pie. The donuts always have incredible texture and flavor! Of note, they avoid artificial ingredients. Looks like they've changed ownership a few times, but thankfully I haven't noticed a difference in quality. Currently, their hours are 7 AM to 4 PM on weekdays and 8 AM to 4 PM on weekends

My child is anaphylactic to dairy and we are so happy with the vegan donuts! We have no other options in the treasure valley and wish there were more locations- we used to go to Eagle all the time! Your donuts are the BEST!

Full five stars for the donuts. I mean, you're not going to get a better donut anywhere, I guarantee it. Great taste, great texture, great variety, and both vegan and gluten-free options. Five stars for both service and ambiance, too. If you're used to going to a chain place, where the seating is sterile at best, you're gonna love being able to sit down with your donuts and coffee and just enjoy the goodness. Marks off for the fact that, today at least, they served the drinks in to-go cups even if you made it clear that you wanted an actual mug. That's kind of a minor point, though -- this is still an amazing place all around.

Been here a few years back, I noticed the inside changed a bit as well as the menu. Still pretty good, I had the Alice in wonderland donut and a sandwich. Service was amazing, it was our friends birthdays and they let us bring balloons and gifts inside for her! She loved it!!! The vibe is chill, casual and quaint!

Came looking for a really good donut and found a fantastic treat. I got the hot mess donut, powder covered raspberry donut that was so good, I bought one for now and one for the plane ride home. Thank you Guru donuts for making my day.

It's just doughnuts, how good can they be? They are really good! I am a sucker for maple and I loved their maple and bacon burger. We had a few people with us who were new in town and wanting something GF. They had all that plus vegan options too. We got a box of doughnuts, and listen, they will set you back about $34 but (thats the only downfall), but they are handcrafted and really delicious. They even made their way back to CA with us. Only bummer was that other breakfast options were premade like sandwiches and burritos for our non-doughnut eaters. But our coffees were great and the service was exceptional. Very sweet and attentive workers too!

If you want fancy expensive donuts this is the place. Very cool building in downtown Boise with artistic interior.

**Guru Donuts ** in downtown Boise is a treat to behold. You walk in and the vibe is cool. There are so many places to sit and relax and lots to look at. There is complementary water with cups to have with your doughnuts. A cool mural sits on the wall, there are seats to look out on the street and plenty of room for a crowd. The unassuming building on Main Street houses a business who's motto is " both food & life should be fun." Eating donuts here at Guru is fun experience. They open at 7 on weekdays and 8 on weekends. I tell you this because I didn't give it much thought till I arrived 2pm and donuts were scarce. For the best choice in doughnuts go early! Regardless, lucky me , my fav Boston Crème were still available. This donut was ooey gooey and had the perfect chocolate topping. The filling is the best Boston Creme filling I have had anywhere! We also tried the cup of donut holes that are the essential and tasty on the go treat. So good, light & fluffy. Another good one is the High Priest. A bacon topped glazed donut that not only looks good but is tasty. That bacon trend was from years back but the salty and sweet still works so well. Of course there is coffee. The day was too hot for that for me. There were breakfast type things to eat but it was afternoon. So, for us it was The donuts! Just go here!

Stopped in this morning. Had the healthy Homer, potato based donut. It was tasty, moist, and filling. Also had the maple bacon. Very good. Clean space, has a hipster vibe, staff was friendly.

I ordered The Sandwich which includes bacon, eggs, white cheddar, onions, and more. The decor is modern and hip. The two workers were the sweetest. The sandwich was $10, seemed like a great deal to me, also seemed to be fresh. There is also a vegan option. I have the menu pictured in one of my photos. There is ample seating available on a weekday, comfortable chairs, good wifi network.

I have very recently been hired to be a tour guide for a walking ghost tour in downtown Boise and I was just walking my route before I actually begin taking groups of people to the locations on my tour... the Idanha apartment building is one of the stops and located inside the building is Guru donuts. I had never tried them before and wanted to give them a try after seeing an appealing menu. Service was great - and fast! I had the hipsterberry donut which has a glaze made with blackberries, blueberries and lavender- OMG so freakin' tasty! I also got a small Italian soda with coconut and lavender flavors which was also pretty good! I noticed on their menu board that they also have avocado toasts and I think I'll need to try that, one of their coffee drinks and a vanilla coconut mini donut next ! I will definitely recommend them to friends and to those future friends attending my tours !

Some of the worst donuts I have ever had, full stop. Guru Donuts is a modern donut shop offering vegan and gluten free options, and inventive flavors along with the classics. The donuts are a brioche style, but so overproofed that their texture is similar to a dry dinner roll. 7 donuts and a latte with oat milk set me back just under $30. Unfortunately, the only donut that was even edible was the Old Fashioned, which was tiny and overly oily. The others were dense and bready, and their icings fully crumbled off upon biting into. The ingredients seem to be good quality, but Guru desperately needs to work on their recipes. Two stars because my latte was excellent. Come here for coffee only.

I'm at Guru donut shop in downtown. So far, I've eaten a creamy buttery scrambled egg, avocado, and caramelized onions, on their homemade brioche, then for dessert I had their Boston cream donut. This is a dangerous place to be when when you've already had breakfast at home.

The donuts are good but the staff seemed super lazy. No other customers were in the shop when we went in. Every table was dirty and we had to wipe down our table to eat there. We ordered extra hot coffee and it was lukewarm and not even hot enough if I ordered it at a regular temp. This was disappointing because the price was high but there was no care of the business by the staff working.

Such a vibe of a spot! I got the donut holes and they were so good. A tiny bit more dense than most donut holes I've had, but the dough was so good! And the glaze was so light, I didn't feel sick after eating them all in one sitting. And the bananas foster donut?! SOOOO good. 10/10 will go back and I recommend you stop by, too!

Delicious donuts and tasty breakfast sandwiches. Great spot downtown Boise with excellent service. We tried the donuts which were delicious. The signature sandwich was made with eggs vegetables grilled onions and a tasty soft fabulous bread. Loved the whole experience.

Online orders are ALWAYS LATE! The whole point of ordering online, is to skip the line and not have to wait. The staff doesn't have their ducks in a row.

Delicious donuts and Italian coffee. Not much could be with wrong with this combo. Get there early and cross your fingers for the best selection. The only criticism is that the room itself is a bit messy but I think they struggle to keep up with the pace. Amazing donuts!!!

Overall disappointing experience. Unprofessional and trying to hard to be like a portland hipster, the owner is not genuine and uses disrespectful language when talking to their staff.

This place is hard to beat! The doughnuts are all handmade. The service is fantastic. Everyone is kind, knowledgeable and always smiling. We love the GF the offer!!

We stopped by for donuts for my little sister and her friends and got one of each donut for them to try. When we walked out we realized the box is covered in gooey-ness. Not very fun to try to carry around and not very sanitary. The staff was quick and the building looked clean from what I saw.

There seems to be a lot of hype around these donuts. Visiting Idaho for the first time, my friend and I decided to stop by and give it a try. After looking at the reviews and what they had, we chose the hipsterberry and key lime pie. The dough for both of them was so soft, and the flavors were great! Not too sweet and the donuts themselves were also massive. The interior of the store is also super cool looking, so I'd recommend checking this place out!

We visited Guru donuts based on a recommendation from my sister who takes her grandson here bc he has a lot of food allergies and they have a lot of vegan donut options which is great. I'm originally from California and premium donuts are on every corner so my expectations may have been a little high when comparing to places like Sidecar and JD Flannel etc. Although these were much better than the grocery store donuts we had picked up the week before and some of the flavors were unique (like their Alice in Wonderland donuts which was super yummy) I still felt a little underwhelmed when thinking about how much I paid for each one. They' are definitely better than any other donuts in the area and are worth a try especially if you're looking for a delicious vegan donut.

Was looking for something to bring back to Cali and I found this place. Unfortunately I was late and the crowds before me purchased most of the assorted donuts. I still got some good flavors that were left. Ben and Julia took care of me and were very friendly and helpful. Thank you.

Trendy place. I was REALLY excited when I randomly found this shop while walking around looking for breakfast places. The donuts are on the larger side of the scale. I bought a chocolate cake donut (Guru Chocolate) and a glazed donut (aka The O.G.). I was a little disappointed with the chocolate cake donut, but wonderfully surprised at how great the glazed donut tasted! I believe the glazed donut has flaxseeds in it and they are yeast-raised, vegan!!! How awesome is that! They also offer other fun and seasonal flavors. On my second visit, I had the pumpkin swirl and the OG again. I would imagine this would be a great place to brings your children.

While in Boise we looked up donuts and this great donut shop popped up. Delicious different kind of donuts with a lot of flavor. Highly recommend!

In a town where a few donut shops are actually good this place delivers It is a disappointment that there are more donut joints close to campus and that one big chain that has a red light from location is so sorry so we have to rely on joints like this one and it's not a disappointment at all

I don't often write reviews but I had to here. The dark haired woman with tattoos behind the counter could not have been more rude to my wife and I who were on our first date in months. We asked for recommendations since it was our first time in and she was really annoyed. Maybe if she wasn't vegan she'd be happier working in a donut shop. Can't imagine a better place to work but man she made it seem like hell. The donuts were not great either, but if the people making them have no passion, it makes sense. Don't waste your time and go get anything else downtown.

My fiancé and I were so excited to discover they have gluten free and vegan donuts bc of our food allergies, but the last few times we've gone they haven't had them. Said something about not knowing how to make them or only one person can do it so if she's not working they won't have them. We're so sad about it and hope they train more people on how to make them so we can come back!

Ok I got to say the wife walked past this place a few times. It always looked busy. Finally the wife convinced me to go get a doughnut. Walked in the staff was super friendly. The donuts looked amazing. I got a bacon maple Bourbon doughnut and a Keylime pie doughnut. I have to say that the bacon maple bourbon donut was one of the best donuts I have ever eaten. The doughnut came with a shot of bourbon on top of it that you squeeze into the doughnut. The Keylime pie filling was super yummy. If you're downtown and need a doughnut I highly recommend this place. It's also an acute older building it's got some charm.

This is my new favorite donut shop! I had to go dairy and soy free because of my babies allergies, and was really bummed about having to cut those out of my diet. I have a major sweet tooth and was elated to discover Gurus vegan donuts. You would never know that the donuts are vegan. The buttercream is amazing and tastes like the real deal. The menu changes frequently and I love trying all the new flavors. Some of the regular flavors that we like are the chocolate with sprinkles for my son (not vegan), the Alice in wonderland (v) and my husband likes the Apple fritter (v) or the Boston cream (not v) The guava donut they had this spring was AMAZING and I wish it would be a permanent flavor. It is pricy but it is a fun monthly Saturday morning tradition for our family.

Another city another doughnut shop! Was in Boise for a quick trip and had to find the closest doughnuts! Saw Guru and wanted to give them a try. The shop is cute, brightly decorated and the menu is simple and to the point. I ordered the strawberry shortcake doughnut, chocolate cake doughnut and the honey biscuit doughnut. The strawberry shortcake looked like the popsicle you used to order at lunch in elementary school so I was stoked. The yeast doughnut was very light and fluffy, however it honestly didn't have much taste. There was a faint lingering of a strawberry but that's about it. Which I was a little sad about. The chocolate was pretty good. Again the cake part was great! But the taste just lacked that punch. The biscuit doughnut was different which I appreciate. Very dense like a biscuit and very heavy like a biscuit. The honey was a nice touch I just couldn't eat much of it. They also serve coffee and a few breakfast sandwiches. They have some gluten free doughnuts as well I just didn't try them this time!

The breakfast sandwich was incredibly delicious. The coffee is always so good. I love having meetings there as the atmosphere is peaceful and the music is perfect. I often snag a donut there as well, and in my opinion, Guru has the best donuts in Boise hands down.

Place has a wonderful sandwich But of the five people serving behind the counter, I haven't seen a single smile in the time I've been here. It makes for an unattractive vibe. My caramel doughnut is below average.

If you are going for the gluten-free donuts get there early. I went after 3 pm the first day I was in town and they sold out. Went back the next day before 11 and they were almost out already, some varieties weren't available. These were some of the best donuts I have ever had. The inside wasn't dense and I think the closest to actual donuts I have ever had. It's not far from downtown, so worth a stop to try them out.

Every time I see a donut place, I am walking through the doors. I just happened to see this place, off in the distance. Saw that they were open, in the afternoon, and decided to pop in. They have all their donut varieties on display in a case. These are some pretty large donuts. I always get 2. Why? Because I can. I ordered the Tiramisu and an apple fritter. I was saving these for the next morning. I ate the Tiramisu first. This one was pretty good. Not sure I tasted any tiramisu flavors. The base of the donut was a typical texture. Tasted good. The apple fritter, unfortunately, was a disappointment for me. This isn't your typical fritter you would find and any regular donut shop. Something seemed off about the flavor. Not sure what the actual donut base was made out of. It definitely wasn't my favorite and I wouldn't get it again. Would I go back to try the other flavors? Probably.

My go to is the Alice in wonderland or chocolate sea salt bar. Such a good option for those who are vegan or gluten free. The perfect place & price for a big morning donut. :)

Was in town for business. Randomly walked by and thought the place looked interesting. Got a few donuts to bring back to LA. Boy am I glad I did! Ridiculously good without being overly sweet. They use potato flour for several flavors, adds a really nice texture to the donuts and perhaps some of the best donuts I've had anywhere. Potato flour is kinda expensive so the donuts aren't cheap, but these ain't just regular donuts. Go check this place out... (p.s first time for me in Idaho, great state. Don't worry, I won't move there, heard they have reached capacity for Californians :) )

Im bummer as they have been out of maple bars at the downtown location the last 5 times I've gone in....sigh. Employees should just empathize with the donut lover. It's not a good day when the customers asks for a donut that's not in stock. When I have asked why they're out again I am given tips like when I was told at 10:20 am I "should have come in earlier" or when i made a comment that i thought if they made more they might sell more, i was told they "don't want to end up with a bunch of extra donuts at the end of the day". Not cool.

3.5. Good donuts. They have some fun but sophisticated flavors. The apple cider cake donut was my favorite out of the few we got.

Artisan donuts with some creative flavors. I tried the blueberry basil, it sounded strange enough to get my attention, it was pretty good. Didn't taste the basil, but again that might be the idea. The dinning area is spacious and comfy, and service friendly.

Really disappointing that donuts that LOOK so good don't taste like anything at all. The "Summer Fling" is beautiful, but all the promised ginger and blood orange flavor was not present: it just tasted sweet. Similarly, their famous "Hipsterberry" didn't taste like anything either. Their "Maple Bar" and "Dark Chocolate Sea Salt" both suffered from being too thick. I could barely fit it into my mouth. I also didn't like how dense the base donut was. It was almost like eating bread, and there seemed to be something off about that. I appreciated that the dough was fresh and fried in fresh oil too so there wasn't a gross oily after taste, but why was it so chewy? I didn't love that. We did enjoy the "Vanilla Iced Potato Donut", because it was actually soft, fluffy, and had an interesting flavor. The "Drumstick" was good too, but mostly because the peanuts compensated for a lackluster base. I think I'd rather just buy a drumstick from 7/11 at a third of the price and double the yumminess. About the only good thing I can say about my experience was that the staff is really cool. They're personable and on top of it being Happy Hour (buy one get one free) he gave us a couple free donuts too. Also, the vibe inside the shop is really chill so it's definitely a place I'd hang out. But in the realm of donuts, these are perfectly average and wouldn't have been worth the price at all if we didn't get a Happy Hour deal.
