Restaurants Are Taking Rice Cakes Way Beyond Korean Cuisine | Eater

"Gurume blankets rice cakes with mornay sauce until they resemble a gratin, treating tteok as a stand-in for the creamy, baked starch of French-inspired comfort food." - Bettina Makalintal

Google
Gurume has become a place we go to at least once a week, especially for lunch. Their lunch specials are a great deal, and most importantly, their food is very good. High quality at a great price. They are very accommodating for my son’s diet. Staff and service are always wonderful.

Google
One of the best Japanese restaurants I've ever tried in OC. Quality and preparation of fish was on point, rice was perfect, also loved the blistered shishito peppers. Definitely coming back!

Google
We tried $100 Omakase. We really enjoyed the chef's interpretation. I recommend eating them as they are served to you (minimize additional wasabi & soy sauce). Photos show how each dish is served. I skipped the photo of dessert for your own surprise 🙄

Google
Got there right when it opened on a weekday lunch and there was no wait, but the restaurant was about 75% full by the time it was around 12. I got the sashimi and sushi lunch special for $40. The sashimi pieces were big and the whole plate was a decent size that I wasn't able to finish. The salmon tasted a little fishy to me, but the other pieces were fine. The tempura I thought was decent as well, and their tempura sauce was good. The mixed tempura serving side was bigger than expected so that was a nice surprise. My set came with miso soup and a small salad and they were fine, just tasted like those instant miso soups and bagged salad with some dressing. The price I thought was fair and the serving size is decent. I just wish the quality was better. I would say that this place has a nice ambiance and looks fancy, but the sushi itself is of average quality.

Google
Had a wonderful meal at Gurume Sushi! The food was delicious, with a great variety of options. The service was friendly and attentive. Excellent value for the price – highly recommend for anyone craving quality sushi!

Average sushi at a reasonable price point. You get what you pay for

Google
I had the 100 dollar Omakase and had a really mixed experience. I do not think Uni and Caviar should go with every dish and it makes every dish taste the same. The cutting of the sushi also left a lot to be desired. While the fish quality was generally good, I’d rather pay less and just have a regular sashimi without all the extra.

Google
This place is amazing. I was looking for a special Japanese restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday, and wow this was it! The food was high quality and still within an affordable range. My husband got the sushi omakase for $50, and he was very happy with the selections. The cuts were thick and juicy. I ordered the pork belly bento (about $30); when my food arrived, I didn't expect it to come with all of the delicious side dishes in tiny bowls, like a traditional Japanese meal. Everything was delicious, service was on point, and I would definitely come back for special occasions.

Yelp
WOW! Came here to try their lunch special. No wait, came around 1ish on a Wednesday. We ordered their Parmesan fries, tasted standard. I like my fries more fat and potato-ey but they are more on the skinnier/crispy side. It did have a lots of Parmesan 6.5/10 I got the Chirashi don lunch special ($25) it came with a miso soup. All the fish pieces were thick and so fresh. My favorite was the yellowtail that just melts in your mouth. (11/10) We also got the Gurume special don. This one came as a whole set, tempura, soup, salad, tofu sesame dessert thing. I didn't try much of their food but the food was eaten clean so assuming it was all delicious too. First time here, would definitely come back for their lunch or to try their omakase !

Yelp
Three of us came to celebrate our birthdays with lunch a few days ago. The Lunch Specials offered many good Teishoku choices. I picked the Unagi Don. My bowl had a generous amount of unagi over rice with pickled ginger, green onions, and sesame seeds. With the miso soup, salad, mixed tempura, tofu, pickled cabbage, orange slice, and kinpira renken (lotus root), it made a substantial lunch. B chose the Gurume Special Don for her Teishoku and R had the Miso Black Cod for her Teishoku. Everyone enjoyed their selections. Our server noticed our gift bags and we told her that we were celebrating all 3 birthdays today. She kindly brought us a dish of mochi ice cream topped with a lit candle as a birthday treat! Another fine meal with good service.

Yelp
Tried the Gurume Omakase today. The premium ingredients used were reflected in the price of $120/person (after tax and tip, about $150/person). Ingredients like ankimo monkfish liver, hotate scallop, oyster, sea urchin, abalone...although fresh, the flavor was not outstanding. For example, in the trio of appetizers, the raw oyster topped with ikura, caviar, and uni looked super appealing...but when actually eaten, it lacked a punch of seafood umami. The ingredients taste "normal" and not complementing. The hotate scallop miso zuke is another example of a dish that I would have loved if the flavor profile is right...but it really was tasteless. All the dishes were beautifully presented...but they look much better than the taste. The sashimi and nigiri sushi were decent. So I'd recommend skipping the multi course omakase menu and focus on just the sashimi and sushi. Oh...and bring some bug spray if you sit close to the entrance. I have never been bitten by mosquitos while dining indoors in OC until today. My husband got bitten on his fingers and I got bitten TWICE on my feet. We had to rush through the second half of our omakase meal because the mosquitos were so aggressive where we sat (booth seats near the check-in counter)

Yelp
Checked it out for lunch today and what a great find! We went around noon and got sat immediately and I decided to try the chirashi for $25. I was surprised at the amount of sashimi served along with the presentation of the dish. All the pieces were fresh and cuts were generous. Each bite melted in my mouth and Gurume will definitely become one of my regular spots when I'm craving sushi.

Yelp
Ordered the Chicken Teriyaki dinner plate it comes so beautifully plated with slightly different sides selected by the sushi chef that are so yummy! Terrific service as always too! Nice music playing in the background too! Highly recommend Garume Sushi for wonderful tasting Japanese food! We also ordered sushi & chicken kaarage to go as well!
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best Sushi restaurants in Orange County. Newer, best service staffs, best tasting food and highest quality of Sushi, Sashimi and Grilled Meats, and fried foods. We ordered Karage chicken and it was very tasty and fresh. Overall it is the very best value for the price. I'm definitely recommending all my Mukbang followers to try it.

Yelp
Very nice inside, clean and tidy. Waitstaff was nice and friendly. Everything we ordered was great. From the lobster macaroni to the vegetable tempura to the sushi omakase. I will be coming back again.

Yelp

Yelp
Luckily we arrived early for lunch on a weekend, within 30 mins or so the whole place was packed. I always have a hard time deciding on what to order but ended up deciding on the sushi omakase consisting of 10 pieces of nigiri. Honestly, I felt like it's just okay tasting nothing special. I did enjoy the other lunch meal set we ordered with tuna/salmon roe/rice, tempura, salad, miso soup and pickled vegetables.
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
Delicious all around and the service was really good! Their sashimi was super fresh and I really liked the variety included in the set meals. The beef and udon that we ordered were a bit heavy on the salt but we liked everything else. The waitresses were very attentive and helpful, even providing a little toy for one of our babies when she started fussing. They also have outdoor seating with heaters.

Yelp
Obviously this place is no secret. It's already vastly popular and there was already a wait on a Friday for lunch. For some of the best sushi I've had outside of Japan, it was worth it! I ordered the lunch omakase and they chose a variety of fresh fish, not just your typical fare. Everything was as it should be. The rice was pleasantly warm and the fish was not ice-cold. The rice itself was seasoned to perfection with just the right texture and separation between the rice grains. The sushi chefs are experienced and balanced all of the flavors remarkably well. There was not too much wasabi, soy sauce, or yuzu to overpower any of the fish. Each piece was complete in and of itself, no need for dipping in soy sauce or wasabi (ok fine, maybe 1-2 could have used just a touch more wasabi). My favorites were the red snapper, black cod, and toro + uni. Yuzu cheesecake was also great, densely cheesy with a lightly caramelized and torched surface resembling crème brûlée. Wish they'd have included a bit more yuzu flavor and strawberry on the side but otherwise an excellent dessert. Ambiance was pleasant, with not too much noise to overwhelm conversation. Lighting indoors was soft and warm, welcoming and good for taking photos (haha). Despite the restaurant being so busy, my waitress checked in on me and refilled my tea twice. Where has this place been all my life?? Will definitely come back!

Yelp
Friend ordered the agedashi tofu which was crispy and flavorful. The group I was with was ordering the meal set so I decided to try it with the salmon kama. It came with miso soup to start. The salmon kama was well seasoned, cooked, and fried but I wish it was boneless. A bit of a hassle mid bite before realizing that there were bones hiding. As I made my way to the other dishes, I enjoyed the crispy and flavorful tempura. The tofu with black sesame dressing / sauce on top was a nice and unique side dish. Tofu had a soft texture. I liked the black sesame that whatever sauce I had left, I dipped one of my salmon sashimi in it. It also came with an orange slice for dessert. Since the restaurant seems more upscale Japanese vibes, the meal set seemed the most budget friendly and reasonable for the amount of food you get since the entrees were at least $21. Meal set price varied depending on the protein ordered. Friendly service ! The ambiance was giving date night. It's also a great place to meet with the gals for a friend's birthday. Probably would only visit for special occasions like today.

Yelp
Wow!! Omg if you have been to Sushi Fumi this is on the SAME level! The fish was incredibly fresh... none of the cuts had a fishy taste... and the California roll has REAL crab but does not taste like it (shocked and have never tried real crab like that). The lunch special for $30 is WELL worth it with amazing variety and great quality... the toro was sweet and tasty with no fishy taste. The scallion roll is a personal favorite... it's been a while since I've had one that wasn't fishy! But this one blew it out of the water. I am truly impressed and this is quite the hidden gem in Irvine. If you have the chance this is the place to come to!! Interior is also very nice, the sushi kitchen is gorgeous and modern and makes it a great spot for birthdays and special occasions! The staff is very kind and welcoming. A great sushi spot!

Yelp
Lunch special Chirashi Don: 5/5. Very nice for $25. I enjoyed the large chunks of various seafood with the sushi rice. Refreshing and filling. I'll definitely come back just for this bowl. This lunch special is so worth it. Chicken Karaage: 5/5. It looked like a cross between traditional karaage and buttermilk tenders. Dark meat was used, so this appetizer turned out juicy and flavorful. Lobster Macaroni: 2/5. Way too sweet for a macaroni, almost like they used all of the langoustine soaking water for the pasta and sauce. That shrimp-flavored sweetness overpowered the cheese. It had a good amount of langoustine chunks throughout, but the overall dish was not savory or cheesy enough for my taste. Would not get again. A friend got the Sushi Harmony, a combo platter that came with sushi and maki. These also had generous portions of fish. She ordered Jalapeno Poppers as an appetizer and liked them. I tried one and was happy to find out that it had a palatable amount of heat for a wuss of spicy foods like me. Interior is clean, modern, and zen. Waitstaff can be curt during the hectic lunch rush. When it's not busy, they're attentive.

Yelp
Love the ambiance, the look and the service. But I've come back for the sushi! Today I had to ultimate salmon roll, and edamame and the spicy tuna on sticky rice with avocado. All delicious. I've been to a ton of sushi places, I think this one may be my favorite. The fish is always so good and fresh. The presentation is great as well. Yum yum!

Yelp
Gurume Sushi in Irvine is a modern, calm, and upscale dining experience without feeling too stuffy. The vibe inside is sleek and serene, perfect for a relaxed evening out. I loved that you could watch the sushi chefs work behind the glass in the corner--it felt intimate and intentional, not chaotic like some other sushi spots. Everything felt clean and thoughtfully presented. This would be such a great place for a date--quiet enough for conversation but still lively and stylish. I didn't get the make-your-own hand roll this time, but it looked super fun and customizable, so I definitely want to come back when I'm hungrier. The flavors were good enough, though I have had better but I think the ambience makes up for it if that's what you're going for. It's definitely not a grab-and-go kind of place--this is somewhere you come to slow down and savor.

Yelp
It was my first time dining here on a late Saturday afternoon. I guess it was bad timing because we were offered to sit at the bar or the very last table tucked away in the corner wedged in a small space. We didn't feel like sitting at the sushi bar and preferred a table or a booth. So it was the table next to the wall facing some kid booster seats. I felt a little claustrophobic, but oh well. It's all about timing. The restaurant is a small to medium size dining area with soft pop music of cover songs playing in the background. A couple of the wait staff must've been tired or something. Maybe the end of the lunch rush tiredness. There were several pieces of paper which made the menus a little confusing. An edit or update to the lunch menu needs to be made because it was deceiving. The menu says that the lunch specials are not valid on the weekends or holiday. So we initially did not bother to look at that menu until we asked our server some questions. We selected a couple items from the lunch menu and a salmon tataki roll. The fish was fresh, and the slices of sashimi were thick. I enjoyed it, but not sure if we would be coming that often as it was a little over $100 between the two of us with no drinks. And it was a "special". I left wanting a few more bites.

Yelp
This is an elevated Korean sushi restaurant, that I like going to for the lunch specials, especially the hoedeopbap, and the various fried tempura, especially the oysters. Everything is delicious and exquisite with lovely tableware and it all feels like an elegant atmosphere, a nicer place that you go for a special treat. Service is pretty good.

Yelp
Was looking for sushi spot for dinner on me and my bf way up to LA. We arrived with no reservation on a Saturday night, the people at the front were friendly and we were seated immediately. We shared a three rolls between the two of us and portion was decent and fish tasted fresh!

Yelp
Amazing sushi at fair prices, great service, and a relaxed and clean atmosphere. I've been here about 3-4 times now and they have been consistent every time. Gurume has slowly become my favorite sushi spot in all of Orange County. I always get the Sushi Omakase and the Fuego roll. You can never go wrong with the Fuego roll - it is so delicious. Their wasabi and ginger is on point too. If you want high quality sushi in a classy yet casual environment, then Gurume Sushi is your spot.

Yelp
I picked this spot for my birthday lunch. I should've turned around when I entered that Sunday afternoon around 1.. and they noted they were short staffed and wasn't going to seat anyone outside bc they already had a party of 6 (3 included kids) but we brought our dog and our only choice was to sit outside. Everything went downhill from there, service wise. Server was stressed and snappy. Kept saying someone called in sick and they are so busy. But I told her it's not nice to take it out on your customers. My bad, I should've left then. Food was good. I'd give their food a solid 4 service that day was a 2. Even more bummed that it was a special occasion and our experience was tainted bc they were short staffed. Our favs were the cod, Gurume fresh roll and salmon. Will I return ? TBD. We were a fan bc of their dog friendly patio and fresh sushi but after this experience, we'll won't be in a hurry to return .. this place isn't cheap. 2 people for lunch was over $200 and service at in n out was better.
google avatar

Yelp
Food: 4/5 Decently sized fish to rice ratio sushi. We order a few dishes to share and we're absolutely full! 10 pieces of Omakase sushi- each piece was flavorful and delicious! Gurume roll- delicious and refreshing with the ponzu sauces vegetable tempura light and crispy. Chicken karage- batter was light and crispy. Service: 4/5 Waiter was helpful and attentive. Ambiance: 4/5 Nice big seating area

Yelp
I just came here mainly for their lunch specials and I thought it was the MOST WORTH IT place all around. I accidentally was looking at their regular menu prior to ordering.. then I saw the lunch specials and things just got like 30% cheaper haha Environment - there are so many regulars that seem to frequent here, especially the older generation as well as office workers stopping by for a quick lunch break. The indoor seating area is large with a sushi bar to sit at if you want omakase (there were tons of opening at this table). The outdoor seating was also available (which I chose) but there were bugs around. Service - they were busy so it was a bit slow. BUt once we got out orders the food and drinks came flying out. - Gurume Special Don ($25) - it's a special lunch plate with chopped tuna, imitation crab, roe, and seaweed. There was also 4 pieces of tempura, a salad, small soft tofu, some seaweed, and miso soup - suuuuper worth it for the price. - Nabeyaki Udon - not part of the lunch special but husband wanted something healthy. The soup was very good and flavorful, not too salty at all and the udon was very springy. Good option if you don't want any seafood! I can't belive I stumbled upon Gurume Sushi. I think it's the best place around for a good seafood lunch special. Will definitely be back VERY soon :)

Yelp
Gosh, what a great experience we had here. The restaurant is modern, spacious and clean. We were greated by a friendly server. We went here to try their lunch specials. We ordered the Chirashi Don, Gurume Special, Miso Black Cod, Hamachi Kama, Salmon Kama and an eel Roll. The eel roll was so good with thick slices of eel on top of the california roll. Very tasty. Chirashi Don had very fresh sashimi pieces and good sizes, too. They don't skimp on the sashimi pieces. The meal sets came with sides like tempura, salads, tofu and orenges. It was served so beautifully, you would think you were in Japan. The price, I think is very reasonable for the items we ordered. I will definitely come back to try other menu items.

Yelp
I have been here for couple times, whenever I was in Irvine. Overall ambiance, I like how it's quiet and calm, I could enjoy my solo time. The service is great welcome, good presentation, I have tried the bento sushi, and another time was Omakase ... everything is delicious, I could feel the fresh fish in each bite. Love to be back again. OMOMO Milk tea is next door, if you are a fan of it. I went there twice, never been a long wait, I got seat right away.

Angela L.

Yelp
I love this place. The food is spectacular in taste and presentation. Husband got the chicken teriyaki, which is usually the same fare everywhere you go, but this place really elevates it and brings out sides in a kaiseki style you don't see most places. I got the DIY hand roll set and it was so, so fun and filling. There was so much I couldn't finish it. We also got the langostino mac and cheese, which was a fun and pleasantly surprising dish to find at a Japanese restaurant, but felt like something you would actually find in Japan. The service was spectacular. Waitress was so sweet and nice. We'll be back and back often.
google avatar

Yelp
Delish !!! A bit on the pricey side, but the fish is fresh and is of good quality :) The wait staff is friendly and the interior is sleek and clean. The spicy tuna crispy rice is also really good. I'd come back!

Yelp
We came here as a second choice for sushi. The other restaurant had an unforeseen problem. Gurume sushi did not disappoint us. My wife was planning to get the Gurume Omakase but the server said that it's not shareable. So we end up ordering the sushi omakase . It was so good but not enough so we ordered the special Don to satisfy our hunger. It was also good. Can't wait til we come back and try the black Cod
google avatar

Arlene L.

Yelp
High quality food, good service. We come here for the lunch specials. Not only are they a great deal but the time frame is generous- you can get a lunch special all the way up till 4pm. I often get the black miso cod lunch special. The cod is delicious prepared with a little teriyaki sauce. It also comes with miso soup to start, rice, salad, shrimp & vegetable tempura, assorted pickled vegetables, etc. it's so good.
google avatar

Yelp
Decently fresh sushi and good quantity. Mentaiko pasta was a surprise to us as my husband and I were in search of a restaurant that carries this.

Yelp
Second time at Gurume. This time I came with my mom. We loved it! All of the staff were lovely and really nice, and the sushi was amazing!!! The highlight of our meal was the Ocean Tropical specialty plate. Soo yummy! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
First time here. Had a great omakase experience, everything was well made and tasty, especially you can taste the freshness. The ambiance was warm and cozy, service is amazing.

Yelp
This is a lovely little sushi spot. We shared a few rolls that were all great. Wonderful service!

Yelp
Came here with a friend for an after work meal, and it was pretty good! It was my first time here, and I had heard about them on Yelp. We came around 9pm, and was still able to sit and order without feeling like we were rushed. We ordered the mixed tempura, fuego roll sub spicy tuna with crab meat, suki yaki, and takoyaki. Their menu offers a lot of variety, so it feels more like a Japanese restaurant overall, instead of just a sushi spot. The restaurant itself was really spacious, with a separate sushi bar, actual bar, and patio dining. Out of all of the items we tried, my favorite was the fuego roll which came with yellowtail and was spicy. I also really enjoyed the takoyaki, and how it came out super hot. This sushi spot is definitely more on the expensive side I'd say, but for the amount and quality of food you get, it's definitely worth the price. Parking was fairly easy here too. It's shared with a ton of other businesses, but you'll definitely be able to find parking.

Yelp
Great Japanese restaurant Irvine. They have a great selection of rolls, sushi and main dish. They also have great service. My favorite is the sukiyaki. Save room for dessert, my favorite is the black sesame dessert.

Yelp
We've been enjoying our Gurume visits for years now and are so impressed by the consistency when it comes to fresh ingredients and service! Recently, Gurume rolled out a revamped, new Gurume Omakase multi-course (15!) tasting menu, so of course we had to give it a try. Everything was super fresh and tasty, and we liked this Gurume Omakase even more than the prior version! This version includes: House Salad (but in a fancy rolled up way, almost like eating a spring roll salad) Clam Suimono: still so flavorful, comforting, and delicious Santen Mori trio of appetizers: absolutely love the uni, oyster, caviar combo - so decadent Bluefin Tuna Tartare: super tasty 3 Pieces of Premium Sashimi: an edible work of art Ankimo (Monkfish Liver): I usually don't like liver, but Gurume's version is yummy and didn't have any of the flavors I normally dislike in liver A5 Wagyu with truffle: What a showstopper! I could eat so many of these. Carpaccio (Shima-aji or Kanpachi): we were given the Shima-aji and it was excellent. Salmon Curado: great flavor and preparation Mushi Awabi: yummy Steamed Abalone served in a beautiful shell Tiradito: Hirame or Madai Scallop Miso Zuke 3 Pieces of Premium Nigiri: chef's choice and always such a hit Mixed Tempura: Shrimp and Veggie Choice of Dessert: Ice Cream (Yuzu Sorbet, Matcha, or Black Sesame) or Mochi Ice Cream (Matcha, Mango, or Strawberry) Such a lovely way to celebrate a friend's milestone birthday! Definitely recommend this amazing feast for a special ocassion. Gurume's casual but nice ambiance is versatile - not too casual for a celebration, but also not too stuffy or fancy.

Yelp
Stopped by Gurume Sushi for lunch and was seriously impressed! We ordered the Hamachi Kama and Salmon Kama Teishoku lunch specials. Both came with salad, miso soup, rice, tempura, and delicious side dishes. For just $22, it's an incredible deal considering the quality and portion size. The Kama was perfectly grilled--crispy skin, juicy, flavorful meat. The ambiance is clean and modern, and the service was excellent--friendly, efficient, and very attentive. You can tell the team works hard to create a great experience. Highly recommend Gurume for a satisfying and reasonably priced lunch in a calm, welcoming setting.

Yelp
12.29.2o24 We were able to make a same day reservation. Our friends booked for 6:30pm so we asked for the same. For whatever reason, the lady on the phone asked if we can go in at 6pm instead and I explained to her that we're actually meeting friends there and they just reserved a table a few minutes before and so she gave us a 6:30pm table anyway. We got the omakase for the adults and a salmon roll and truffle fries for our kid. The truffle fries looked really good but it was not fresh tasting. The 15 course omakase was definitely worth it though some of the courses were a miss. One of them had way much olive oil and one was very sour that you couldn't taste the fish. However, I would go back again because it was a good deal imo. Service was good.

Yelp
Most good sushi places are closed between lunch and dinner hours so that's how my friends and I ended up at Gurume Sushi for a very early dinner. And I'm so happy we did! They have some solid lunch specials from 11 AM - 4 PM. I ended up getting the harmony sushi which came with 7 pieces of sushi and a very fat maki roll, all for $30. It doesn't seem like a lot of food on paper but boy, was it filling! I couldn't even finish the last 2 pieces of my maki roll. The nigiri had thick cuts of fish, more unique fish options than at other places, and very good quality. Honestly, the quality was better than the fish at some of the more expensive omakase places I've been to. From what I remember, the set came with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, amberjack, sea bream, ebi, and one I don't remember. It also came with a small salad and miso soup. My friends that did not get the harmony sushi set regretted it haha but they still seemed to enjoy their food. If I'm ever in this area around lunch time, I would definitely return for the same lunch set!!!

This re-review is long overdue, and this time I'm giving my rating based on the omakase rather than the regular lunch menu. I think my verdict is still 3.5 stars, perhaps rounded up. Because they had the promotion of the Gurume omakase for $100, hubs and I decided to come here to celebrate our anniversary. We were quite excited to try the omakase menu, which looked exquisite. I liked the variety and the presentation of the individual dishes. And I think the Gurume Omakase was definitely taking my favorite sashimi to the next level - how the presentation actually enhances the freshness and the melt-in-your-mouthness of the seafood. My favorite might have been the toro with uni, ikura, and caviar, and hubs' was the wagyu beef sushi. Our biggest issue with the dinner, however, was that it was unclear we were getting all the items as stated on the menu. We were told about the dessert change -- that they were doing a "yuzu sorbet" special so that would replace our choice of (mochi) icecream. However, we kept wondering if we were missing one of the 5 pieces of the "premium sashimi". There were a couple dishes that could've been the "miso ceviche" or the "daily special", but we felt like we might have been missing a piece of the sashimi based on the menu since we were looking forward to documenting our evening with detailed pictures. Granted, we still enjoyed our food and had a really nice anniversary dinner (hence the four stars), but it did leave somewhat of a question mark in our mind. It could've been the perfect night otherwise.

Yelp
While it's not the best omakase I've ever had, it's really good especially for the price of $100 per person! This includes a course with uni and caviar, A5 wagyu, monkfish liver, and abalone! Most courses were pretty good and the fish is fresh, but there were a couple that I didn't think worked as well. There was also a piece of otoro that was a bit chewy, kind of disappointing for such a fatty piece. My favorite course was the A5 Wagyu with truffle. The sushi chef also added a blue crab hand roll at the end which was really good. Service was mostly just okay. The restaurant was pretty busy and the food came out promptly but we had to flag them down to get wasabi/ginger and water refills. The parking lot was super busy when we came, so be prepared to circle around for a while.

Yelp
Fast becoming one of my preferred sushi spots. The fish is good and there is a decent variety, plus the sushi portions are a good size. The sushi omakase for about $50 is a good deal, and the rolls are generally also very tasty. The restaurant itself is very pretty.

Yelp
Personally, a really good omakase spot in Irvine that's not too expensive and provides a good amount of food. For the $100 omakase, it's 15 courses and it definitely leaves you full. I believe all the dishes were pretty good, but don't expect coming here with a traditional japanese omakase because this place is korean owned. However, for a fusion, it definitely delivers. The flow of the courses at the beginning were a little rushed, but it toned down towards the end of the course. All the staff were super nice! We even ordered and hamachi kama and the portion size was great! The dish was also baked nicely and the fish was super juicy. Lastly, the interior of this place was beautiful. It was also super clean. We will be back!

Yelp
ordered the 10 piece nigiri omakase and was very satisfied for the price! i will say not all bites are created equal, some were definitely much more enjoyable/expensive than others. the servers and chefs were very nice and energetic. the restaurant was very nice and the lighting was very romantic for my date night!

Yelp
Sushi Came here because we were curious and hungry. Not a lot of people which was perfect and got seated right away. The ambiance is a Japanese and Korean vibe. The food and service is so great. Food. So many to choose from and you only have one stomach. Don't you hate that. What my family ordered. Gurume steak Salmon Sushi and a few sushi rolls Everything is so delicious. Sushi and sushi rolls are so fresh. Would definitely comeback her again.

Yelp
Gurume is nestled in the corner of the same plaza as Omomo tea. Got the lunch chirashi ($25). It comes with 15 pieces of various fish, sits on a bed of deliciously seasoned rice, and has a side of miso soup. The fish was fresh, I liked the diverse cuts of fish beyond the standard tuna, salmon, and hamachi.the pickles were a nice addition but a bit too strong tasting for me.

Yelp
I recently moved to Orange County and came to this restaurant twice recommended by a friend. Their lunch specials are very good and prices reasonable it's situated in a mall with lots of businesses so parking can be challenging.

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing! Forgot to take photos of the food but there was so much, we could barely finish! The fish itself is so fresh and amazingly tasty. Ambiance is nice and relaxing. 100% any of their dishes. Also great lunch special! Definitely returning again! 11/10
