Gushi - Review - Westwood - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"This tiny Korean BBQ stand might not look like much from the outside, but it makes some of our favorite on-the-go food in the neighborhood. They have everything from bibimbap to udon, but we go for the affordably priced combo meat plate. Two meats of your choice over rice, plus salad, kimchi, and a drink. You won’t find that amount of (good) food for that much anywhere in the area." - Brant Cox

The 18 Best Restaurants In Westwood

"This tiny Korean BBQ walk-up window is a Village classic, and home to some of our favorite on-the-go food in the neighborhood. They have everything from bibimbap to udon, but at lunchtime, we go for the combo meat plate. Two meats of your choice over rice (we usually do chicken and thinly sliced beef), plus salad, kimchi, and a drink. You won’t find that amount of good food (it's easily two meals) for the same price anywhere else in the area." - nikko duren, brant cox

Google
You can experience various Korean foods. The food was delicious, especially kimchi fried rice. It's close to UCLA, so there are many places where you can see. The store was supposed to be eaten outside.

Google
Food is great but the location is pretty busy! Definitely recommend take out or grabbing your food to go. Otherwise food was delicious and portions were great. The teriyaki sauce is delicious!

Google
This place is pretty delicious. I tasted this place a long time ago (2018) and the taste was exactly what I remembered (today 2023). I also bought the extra veggies and it was immaculate. I wish I would’ve purchased extra teriyaki sauce - please do it to make this a 5- I love saucy food. Dad got the combo of steak and chicken and he was very pleased with the meats. A bit of parking space, wasn’t difficult to park. No restrooms and a good amount of outside seating. Great quick stop. Foods out in minutes. Friendly staff.

Google
Pretty good Korean food with a limited, uncovered, seating area. The ramen is a bit spicy but lacks flavor. The portion size is very generous. Most items on the menu come with little to no vegetables, unless you order specifically for it. The seating area does not have air conditioning but has some ceiling fans, so it could get a bit hot in summer.

Google
Always my first choice to grab a quick lunch or dinner. They are never stingy with the meat haha, especially when I order a combo plate. Rice underneath the meat is fully covered. Sometimes the chicken is a bit dry and hard but taste great with their sauce! They provide two kinds of sauce, one spicy one non spicy. Bibimbap is another great choice with plenty of vegetables. Tofu soup is much better than I expect. Recommended: beef tofu soup, plate with chicken and gushi, and bibimbap. A few outdoor seats and no indoor seat

Blanca Lizarralde

Google
Just excellent. We ordered the Gushi plate with beef, kimchi and salad. The beef is perfectly cooked, the rice on point and the kimchi is delicious. We also ordered Miso soup which was amazing too.

Google
This placed used to be really good years ago. I came by after many years and the chicken was super dry. The tables were all dirty and it took very long for the food to be ready. Won’t be coming back.

Google
Enjoyed getting food from here as a college student and when I worked close by, but this is no longer affordable for lunches or takeout dinners. It's the price of a sit down restaurant with table service, not a walk up takeout counter anymore.

Yelp
Pretty flavorful Korean food but it's so expensive. A kalbi plate is $28. Definitely most items are $20 and more. The price of bowl is maybe $3 less and maybe it's worth it to get the plate since it will come with salad and kimchee. The price just shocks me and I felt it should come with more rice. At least the meat portion was somewhat decent. And the plates came with drinks. Tried the triple combo plate which had chicken and beef with teriyaki on the side and kalbi. And I had a little bit of the spicy pork. Had the japchae as a side. It all tasted pretty good. There is outdoor seating.

Yelp
I haven't been back to Gushi's since COVID but stopped by UCLA before Christmas and decided to try Gushi's again. Everything seems the same...but the plates was not as good as I remember. The rice was a bit undercooked and the chicken and beef were dry/chewy. I went as soon as they opened so maybe they're weren't set up properly. I would probably go back to try it one more time. There is paid parking next to Gushi's now- I think it used to be valet before...I don't remember.

Yelp
Quick and easy spot to satisfy your Korean food cravings. I wish the portions were larger considering the price. I got the bulgogi plate that came with rice, salad, and kimchi. The bulgogi was alright... more on the chewier side and the marinade was lacking. It wasn't terrible but not the best, just average.

Yelp
Haven't had this place in a couple years, I was in the area and I wanted to see if it was as good as I remembered. The food tasted amazing and was as good as i remembered, i definitely would eat here again if I come down to this area again. This place is a little expensive, which makes sense because of the area it is located in and they charge a lot for extra sauce on the side. Sitting outside can be relaxing also, can see all the cars driving by and get some fresh air. The servers were nice, didn't really interact much because of how busy they were

Yelp
I used to dine at Gushi frequently but since their prices increased so much, it's no longer worth it. Today, 5/7/25 was the first time in a long time back at Gushi. I ordered the combo plate beef and chicken extra rice instead of salad. The portion is smaller than I remember for almost $24, I expected more quality and portion. The beef was not as tender, the chicken was just ok. They give only 1 small cup of sauce. I remembered in the past, they had the sauce available on the counter in case you needed more. The rice was mushy and overall, it was not as good as it used to be. My friend ordered the kimchi fried rice and she also thought the rice was too mushy. The other friend ordered the soup and she said it lacked flavor and it had too much bean sprouts. Gushi used to be a crowded place back in the day, it's different now. I don't mind paying as I understand everything has gone up but quality should reflect that. They are close to UCLA on Gayley Ave. Service was ok, place is very casual. They have tables available for dine in.

Yelp
Rude cashier. Super bad attitude. Had questions on the menu and she just snapped at me saying I don't know what you want. Food was fine, but wouldn't want to support a business that treats their customers like I experienced

Yelp
I love college kid food, even though it's been quite some time since I've been in academia. Huge portion with a drink for under $20 (including tax). And quite tasty. Chicken Teriyaki Plate: Very tasty, for humble chicken. Like wow, how did they pack in so much flavor into that marinade. Plus the grill marks added a nice smoky layer. Gushi Plate: Decided to get the eponymous dish, since that's usually a safe bet. Plus I really like bulgogi. So bulgogi literally means "fire meat" and I love when it's scorched and crispy. Here, I didn't see any grill/griddle marks and it kinda had the soggy texture of gyudon. I mean, don't get me wrong, it was still very tasty. But given how nicely they grill the teriyaki dish, I was hoping my bulgogi would have a similar smoky kiss.

Yelp
You can't walk around in Westwood village without smelling delicious kbbq from Gushi. Their Kalbi plate is my favorite thing to order-- their Kalbi is so tender and full of flavor. It pairs really nicely with the white rice, side salad, and kimchi. I also love to order their japchae to eat with Kalbi. Excellent quality and huge portions for the price. As a busy medical student, this place is the best spot to grab takeout and satisfy my Korean food cravings.

Nick G.

Yelp
Although it's expensive in my opinion, it is a place that serves solid food and can be split up into two meals at least for me
google avatar

Yelp
Trash ! Even worse the ladies behind the register can care less about what they feed you or have come back . I wouldnt even feed this raw and unflavored meat to my dog
google avatar

José M.

Yelp
If you want your combo with a miso soup, make sure you don't select a tea or soft drink when they ask you what you would like to drink. A little pricey but the beef and chicken are consistently flavorful.
google avatar

Jake A.

Yelp
Ordered over the phone, quick turnaround, and easy pickup. Everything was reasonable taste-wise, but nothing stood out as being particularly worth the price point, which seems a bit higher than comparable spots nearby. Fun to try once and a fine spot to have here and there but not my top pick.
google avatar

Darien B.

Yelp
I went to this place and ordered the kalbi bowl and I said to them fried rice so they gave me a separate box and in the box for the kalbi bowl white rice was in there and they charged me 52 dollars for that and the Asian lady working at the front counter wasn't knowledgeable and took too long she seemed rather annoying I don't recommend going to this place also almost choked on a bone I'm not coming back again and food tasted weird it was more dry and the rice almost gave me stomach ache and I almost threw up because they forced me to eat my food otherwise I would of had to pay a 1,000 dollar fee for not finishing my food very unacceptable

A B.

Yelp
The most bland Japchae I've ever had. So disappointing. Also forgot my kimchi I ordered a side of. Booooo
google avatar

Annabell M.

Yelp
This place sucks. I ordered the Spam egg fried rice and it was disgusting. I asked the worker if he can substitute the scrambled egg for over easy fried egg and they said it would be possible. I proceeded to ask the worker if there was any other veggies in the dish. They said there was only peas and carrots. When I recieved the dish there was chunky onions. There was no spam in the dish, just chunky cheap ham, tasteless scrambled eggs and dry. The entire dish had no taste to it, dry and bland. Total waste of money. I would never come here again

Yelp
Food is great but the location is pretty busy! Definitely recommend take out or grabbing your food to go. Otherwise food was delicious and portions were great. The teriyaki sauce is delicious!

Yelp
We've been coming here for years and love the food. The one star is for the new girl answering the phone. When you call to place your order she pretends like the phone is not working and hangs up on you. Then when you finally get her on the line she's extremely rude. I could understand if it was a one time thing but my office orders from here all the time and it's happened multiple times to all of us. When we pick up our order she tells us to place our order online in a rude tone. It would be smart if the owner hired someone who actually liked talking to people. This girl comes off like she hates her life and we're just trying to order lunch.
google avatar

Emma W.

Yelp
Served pretty big portions of meat and rice, but was pretty pricey. I got a bulgogi bowl, but did not expect it to come with just rice and meat, no veggies. If you want veggies, you probably have to order a plate, which is more expensive. The seating area is really small. The meat was okay and needed the sauce on the side for flavor, but there was only a small container and I ran out halfway through the meal. Service was really fast.
google avatar

Kevin H.

Yelp
Wow. Stopped by for Fat Sal's, BUT smelled the awesomeness from this place so I had to try it. The order took quite a while to fulfill to be honest, but it was definitely worth the wait. Seemed like there were a lot of pick up orders so that might be a smarter choice. There's a decent amount of seating and it was easy to find parking so it wasn't all that bad. I ordered the Gushi plate which had beef, chicken, and short ribs. The beef blew my mind, it wasn't like your average thin hawaiian bbq beef, this was like a thicker juicier beef. Pretty impressed. I added a japche on the side and it was tasty as well. Flavor on point for sure. Great job
google avatar

Madie D.

Yelp
The sweet smell of barbecue will lure you to this place. The food here is delicious, the servings are huge, and the price is somewhat reasonable for how much food you get. That being said, you're really just getting a giant pile of rice with meat on top. They up charge a lot if you want to add any kind of veggies/nutrition to your plate, which is disappointing. I wouldn't recommend eating your plate there since there are often cockroaches and other critters in their al fresco dining area. The service is moderately quick, but definitely not fast food if you're in a rush!

Sevag J.

Yelp
Gushi's food is absolutely amazing and never disappoints! Would highly recommend to anyone!

Moe E.

Yelp
Amazing food! Parking can be tough but that all of Westwood. Really tasty but a bit TOO expensive for what it is.
google avatar

Chloe C.

Yelp
FOOD - we got the chicken and galbi combo plate. p good, chicken is ok (a bit too chewy) but the galbi is fire. reminded me of galbi at a nostalgic family BBQ. the meat was so flavorful and had a smoky charcoal flavor. kimchi and salad are also not bad, but next time I would just get a galbi bowl, prolly way cheaper. PRICE - $$$$, for the money I thought we would get more meat but I was a little disappointed there were only lkke 4 small pieces of galbi and similar amount of chicken. SERVICE - normal AMBIANCE - outdoor seating
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
Bottom line: 20 fricking dollars for a beef bowl, ucla students with wallet fatigue probably want to continue their search for a cheaper meal somewhere else. Holy guacamole !Good grief foodflation! Eventhough it's 2023 and stagflation runs amok, this is still Extremely cost prohibitive for the ucla crowd. Ordered the beef bowl. At $20 , I was expecting any kind of side and drink. The beef came naked a La carte on a bed of rice. Except for the green scallions, it was offered with zero sides and other veggies So essentially, you're paying $20 for some beef. The beef was just okay. Yes it's a notch above the fast-food Korean bowl places, but not at these prices.

Yelp
Got home to open my meal to see meat that was not cooked and a plate full of fat. Called to let them know and they kept hanging the phone up on me not willing to help. Very upsetting
google avatar

Leanne Y.

Yelp
Korean fast food. Bought kimchi pork belly, and rice. It came with bean sprouts marinated with sesame oil. It was good but somewhat pricey. Items were mostly average $20 and kalbi $26 and up dependent upon what you order. Sorry but no photo.

Yelp
Gushi is one of three food shacks that are next to each other (the others Hangry Moon's, Fat Sal's Deli) with no indoor seating, limited outdoor seating, and orders taken and given out from a window. All three are popular with UCLA students who live in the neighborhood. My last order was the combo plate with bulgogi and beef teriyaki over white rice with a side of kimchi and salad. The bulgogi and beef teriyaki were perfectly grilled and flavorful. The plate came with extra teriyaki sauce on the side. The kimchi was good. The salad was just a generic green salad with a generic salad dressing. But basically, I came for the meat. And they provide a lot of it. Most customers get their orders to-go. However, I have usually been able to find an outdoor table at Gushi to eat. I have been there several times and will continue to go. A hole in the wall with great food.
google avatar

William S.

Yelp
Good, not great. Chicken teriyaki couldv'e had more sauce. A bit pricey. Kimchi was good, salad was mid.
google avatar

Joe D.

Yelp
I've never been, I usually order extra meat on ever order. The cashier stated that the extra meat would be an extra charge I said of course but changing me 14.95 for extra meat especially when my meal was 20.45. A Little over priced and without full disclosure.
google avatar

Mary D.

Yelp
Prices went up by $4-5 so it may not be as affordable for a student anymore but portions and quality remind the same. Gushi's a hut off a busy corner at Gayley that offers korean grilled meat platters and other snacks. Hits the spot for a Westwood joint but pretty, pretty pricey now that I don't think it is worth it! Quality of the meats and portions are nice but truly- not sure if it's worth for the price! My favorite item is the kalbi platter- comes with nice juicy quality kalbi beef served on white rice with kimchi and salad on the side. Is also accompanied by a black sauce that I recommend pouring over your meat and spicy sauce which is just some sriracha. Also, a free small soft drink comes with the order OR you can also get miso soup instead of a soda! It used to be 18.95 so I'll get it often but the price is now $24!! and after taxes is over $27!!! so I'm not sure if it's worth it anymore! It's good but the cost could cover a better meal or even two meals elsewhere
google avatar

Katherine F.

Yelp
gushi is a solid Westwood staple for a no-frills meal - the service is a bit slow for a primarily takeout operation but not too bad - the spicy squid plate, soondubu, beef plate, and bibimbap are well-seasoned and well-cooked, just as you would expect. - the menu is not authentic with many fusion elements so you can also find some traditional Japanese dishes and noodles - they have a few tables but they are outdoors and not ideal for a big group. - if you are looking for a place to grab a casual meal, gushi is a great spot
google avatar

Yeferson A.

Yelp
Food was delicious. We got the plate that brings three meats, they were all so juicy and fresh and made quickly. It was a great experience in a great little town. I would definitely recommend. I shared the plate with my girlfriend and it was filling for both.
google avatar

Shyia B.

Yelp
Service was great location tricky if you stuck trying to enter through the in& out burgers drivethru line..the meat is tender rice is perfect but that it literally I ordered a gushi bowl there was no sauce green onions seasme seeds just meat & rice with a medium (small) sprite was 20$
google avatar

Preston L.

Yelp
The galbi combo here is actually good. But there's nothing really stand out for this price. The service is normal .
google avatar

Benjamin C.

Yelp
Solid food - Portion of meat is on point i do give them credit. Service - The lack of communication is not quite there. Overpriced - Inflation has gone up and I understand the food is very pricey.

Raniyah R.

Yelp
I got the spicy squid plate while touring UCLA and it was very delicious. The squid was very chewy but the sauce wasn't spicy at all in which I think they should improve on that. The service is decent but it may take a bit for them to take your order. In all, it's a pretty nice and hidden spot, the atmosphere is okay and you may have to deal with some flies.

Yelp
Food: Ordered two plates, kimchi friend rice and beef yaki udon. Everything was so tasty, so fresh, packed with flavor. Sometimes these dishes can get greasy, but they weren't for us. Absolutely worth trying! Interior/Exterior: There's a seating outdoor patio area, more of a quick sit down and go style of setting. It's located right off of Gayley Ave. We went in the evening, closer to 8pm. There were quite a few impatient car drivers that were quick to honk if anyone took a second too long parking or looking for parking. Since we were sitting right by the wall closest to the sidewalk and street, it can be quite loud an annoying. Location & parking: We had parked further away, a 10 minute walk, since we attended an art gallery show in the area. But, there is street parking and different parking lots you can part at, in then walk on over. Experience: Great overall! Good food, it wasn't crowded, maybe one other table of people were there when we arrived.
google avatar

Jorge E.

Yelp
I went there for the first time during my lunch break and had their combo plate. It has beef and chicken and something else I could not pronounce. All over steamed rice. It comes with a small salad and a small drink for under $20. It was delicious! I'll definitely be back for more! The seating area is small though, so if you're not doing take out you may have to wait for a table to be open if you go during a busy hour.
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
It was fine fast food Korean. I had the Yook Gae Jang which was served very very hot with rice and a very small 1/4 cup portion of kimchi. I waited for the soup to cool down to a level that is consumable. There is outside patio seating. It was cold outside, but they hadn't turned on the heaters. It was fine, but I think I should have gotten the beef and rice dish.
google avatar

Roger G.

Yelp
Came last night for the first time. I had the Gushi bowl & my friend had the Tofu bowl. We also each got a bottle of water, both of which were warm-- ah, well. The Gushi bowl had an unimpressive presentation, matched by unimpressive flavor. It was greasy and bland. My friend's tofu was visibly under seasoned, and they told me that the bowl was pretty flavorless on the whole. Will not be returning. The service was quick and the staff were kind. I assume they are understaffed because they closed early.
google avatar

Kenny Y.

Yelp
Wait - I never reviewed Gushi?? Gushi is a very nice fast, inexpensive option right outside of UCLA where you can get Korean (and Japanese?) rice bowls and rice plates without having to drive all the way to Koreatown. Of the options in Westwood, it's pretty good. The restaurant is counter service (or you can call to order pick up) and the entire restaurant is a covered outdoor patio. We would also get takeout from here pretty frequently and take it to a nearby park. For the rice bowls and rice plates, you can mix and match meats, choosing between chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki, galbi and gushi (bulgogi). The galbi is marinated well and it's my favorite, followed by (surprisingly) the chicken, which is also flavored very well. They also make a pretty decent jap chae.
google avatar

Annie B.

Yelp
This place hit THE SPOT. I was craving warm Korean/Asian food on a cold night and this did the job!! The shop is like a hole in the wall and reminds me of a small family shop. The food is delicious as well! We ordered the bibimbap and seafood tofu soup. Portions are huge! I had enough to eat for lunch the next day. Keep in mind there's limited free parking, and there's only outdoor seating!

Mr. Stu P.

Yelp
If you are in search greasy grey mystery meat with anemic vegetables and watered down weak sauce, congratulations, you need look no further. This is your place! I think their target clientele is UCLA undergraduates.
google avatar

Anthony J.

Yelp
It's been a longgggg time since I've been here and prices sure have gone up! We ordered gushi bowls along with jap chae plates, still waiting on the food so will update on the food and taste after. Seating is limited and parking is as well Came on a Friday night
google avatar

Yelp
I was looking for some rice bowls to eat around the area and stumbled upon this place. Its a relatively small building with small outdoor only seating area. I ordered a teriyaki chicken plate that came with a soda. I waited for about 7-8 minutes for my order to be ready. I started eating the food about 10-15 minutes after receiving it and it was still hot. The chicken was decently flavored with the sauce but a little bit on the dry end. The chicken was in large chunks so being dry wasn't too bad. The salad was nothing special and tasted alright. Kimchi wasn't soggy and the greens still had a nice crunch. Portion size wise, it was more than what I was expecting. Overall, the food was slightly above average. It was relatively pricier than other rice bowls/plates I've had at $13-14. I'll still be coming back to order. It seems like Gushi is the only place close-by in my area that has decent food that I'd be willing to pay for.

ReviewerOfReviews ..

Yelp
Ma ma ma Mid asf. $3 refill for Diet Coke. Fat steak and weird fried rice. Come buy if you want expensive meal prep type food.

Luis G.

Yelp
Food is good. It would make it so much better if the sodas weren't flat. I asked the young lady to exchange my soda because it was flat and she still charged me 50 cents. So I pay the 50 cents and she gives me a coke. Guess what, coke was flat as well. If you guys come here make sure u bring your own drinks. They will charge you extra money for more soda that is flat.
google avatar

Dre P.

Yelp
Little pricey, but big portions and really tasty. Make sure your park down the street, bc the traffic from In & Out gets backed up.
google avatar

Alexandra P.

Yelp
Place is mid and overpriced. Lowkey I think gogobop around the block is better. They have more options and are much cheaper considering you get more food
