LA’s Old Gus’s Barbecue Restaurant Adds New Location Deep in the Valley | Eater LA

"Originally from South Pasadena and claiming to be the oldest still-operating barbecue restaurant in Los Angeles County, this barbecue operation has expanded and modernized in recent years—adding a bar-focused outlet in Claremont—and is reportedly opening another location soon at 20179 Rinaldi Street in Porter Ranch’s new Vineyards mixed-use development; a Craigslist listing seeking bartenders suggests an imminent launch." - Farley Elliott

I’ve tried the location in Pasadena and loved it. This location is even nicer aesthetically with a very cool laid-back vibe. The food is very good just like in Pasadena. Although, I will say the brisket in Pasadena is better. Service is great. Ryan was amazing and very accommodating.

Had a wonderful time meeting friends for lunch on the weekend. The service was exceptional, the food was delicious. I decided to try a burger and went for Gus’s. This was my first time here, but definitely not the last. Be sure to try the cornbread, amazing.

Tried the BBQ plate at Gus’s in Porter Ranch and it delivered a solid mix of flavors. The brisket is tender with a nice smoke ring and just enough sauce to keep it juicy. The pulled pork is soft and easy to shred, while the ribs have a good char and a sweet, smoky finish. The sides are well done too. The potato salad is creamy and flavorful, and the coleslaw adds a fresh crunch to balance the heavier meats. Cold beers served fast, which helps with the overall pace of the meal. A reliable spot if you’re in the area and want a hearty, well-executed BBQ dinner.

I'll make this quick and simple as we're just tryna chow. Parking is not hard to find as long as you're willing to walk. Otherwise, Carpool ✅ Clean restroom for men and women ✅ Savory and excellent food ✅ Been here twice. Food does not disappoint so far. Can be busy, but food is really worth the wait. ✅ See pictures. I recommend them all ✅ Shout out to Lizanne and Oliver. You're lucky if you meet them 😎 they'll take good care of you. 💯

Delicious all around! The kids loved their BBQ grilled chicken with fries and fruit (a nice change from the usual spaghetti and tenders). I enjoyed the buttery cornbread and deviled eggs, while my husband raved about the brisket baked potato. Friendly staff and a cozy country vibe, definitely worth coming back!

Google
This place has a nice ambiance, very spacious, cute decor. The spinach dip was delicious. I would order it again. The Cajun wings were way too spicy. Brisket and pulled pork were both delicious. The ribs however, was just alright. It wasn't as good. For the most part, service was good. They kept checking on our table. Only thing was, I had not even eaten my food yet, which was clearly still on my plate and the server already asked if we wanted boxes. How rude. Is that your subtle way of telling us it's time to leave? You're not even full. We did not appreciate that

Google
Gus’s BBQ is in The Vineyards at Porter Ranch. With BBQ from Carolinas to Texas to Memphis, they smoke enough BBQ for each part of the day. I love how open it is, with indoor and outdoor dining areas. The decor is fantastic!! We started off with appetizers: deviled eggs and cornbread. We didn’t really like the deviled eggs. It was sweet and tangy. They could have used more mayo to be creamier and a little more salt. We were really looking forward to them since we love deviled eggs but just didn’t like the taste. The cornbread was real promising. Love that it comes in a skillet. But, it was okay. We ordered the Memphis Baby Back Ribs/ Texas Beef Brisket/Sausage Combo and the St. Louis Spare Ribs/BBQ Brick Chicken Combo. Sides we tried were the potato salad, creamed corn, braised southern greens and sautéed green beans. As far as taste goes, the brisket was the best in the bunch. Juicy and tender. The ribs and sausage could have been juicier. They were a little dry. The sides were just okay. Everything looked better than they tasted, which was a big disappointment. We paid around $128 for lunch, tea, root beer and tip. During peak times, parking can be difficult.

Had a great dinner at Gus's BBQ with my daughter. There was about a 30-minute wait, but we didn't mind as we sat outside on a bench-like chair, and the evening weather was perfect for relaxing and chatting before our meal. I always order the Brisket Quesadilla. It's my go-to dish because it's smoky, cheesy, and packed with flavor. Sadly, they no longer serve it with the jicama pickles, which I used to really enjoy. Still, the quesadilla is absolutely worth ordering! My daughter had the Beef Brisket with mashed potatoes and creamed corn, and she loved it. The brisket was tender and flavorful, and the sides were classic comfort food, creamy and satisfying. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere inside was cozy and casual. Always a solid choice for BBQ cravings. We'll definitely be back again!

Yelp
Incredible experience! Ordered the Backyard Feast for the office. Staff were so nice taking the order. Food was amazing! Says it feeds 10-12 but there was plenty for more than that! Brick chicken is incredible. Rib meat melts off the bones. Taking a bite of the brisket is like holding a piece of heaven in your mouth. Hands down one of the best BBQ places around for not that much money!

Yelp
Gus is great every time.. From staff to food, you can't lose at Gus.. Although I wish I could be able to do breakfast throughout the week.. Whatever you choose you can't and won't be disappointed. Gus is consistent for the win

Yelp
I have been coming to Gus's BBQ for many years, and I have always enjoyed their food -- especially the gumbo. But today was extremely disappointing and honestly concerning. The gumbo I received was visibly greasy, far from the quality I've had in the past. I asked the staff to remake it, and even the second batch still looked the same. When I asked to see it before leaving, the employee barely wanted to show me the container, and the appearance still wasn't right. I was not about to bring that home to my mother -- especially knowing how heavy and unhealthy it looked. On top of that, the service was poor from the moment I walked in. No greeting. No assistance. I had to ask someone to help me. The food was packaged poorly, and no one seemed to care about the presentation or the condition of the meal. For a restaurant with a reputation like Gus's, that is unacceptable. When I requested a refund, the manager acted as if he didn't know how to process it. He stepped away without any apology or explanation and never returned. Another employee came over and issued the refund in seconds -- kindly and professionally. The contrast in their attitudes said everything. A manager should set the tone, not make a customer feel like they're a problem for pointing out obvious issues. Overall, this experience left a very bad impression. I'm grateful I got my refund, but the service, food quality, and lack of accountability from management were disappointing. I truly hope they improve, because customers deserve better -- and this is not the Gus's BBQ I've known over the years.

Yelp
Looking for a great bbq spot? This is the place. I've been here multiple times for lunch and dinner and always have a great experience. Decided to try their breakfast menu this time after another customer in line recommended it. They specifically said "try their breakfast, trust me you won't regret it". Me and my friend loved it!! We started off with Gus's "almost famous" Cinnamon Skillet Bun. It was SO GOOD, a great starter and would so get it again. Then we ordered the Brisket & Egg, and the Buttermilk Biscuits and Gravy. Both were spectacular. The tacos were filled to the brim! You really get your moneys worth here. The ambience is great and exactly what you would expect for a bbq house. Our server was also so wonderful. Our food came immediately and she was very kind to us. She recommended the Brisket & Egg, saying their brisket is great, and I 100% agree! I would definitely comeback here and recommend to others

Yelp
Quick update as I haven't been here in a while. Everything was outstanding as usual, but I just need to comment that the veggie burgers have changed and are even tastier than ever!

Yelp
Most often people shortens the spelling of Barbecue as BBQ but no, at Porter Ranch, we spell it as GUSS! We just felt, it was time for meat at lunch so everyone screamed GUSS! We drove to Porter Ranch and ordered our much-needed protein to satisfy our starving souls and wandering cravings. The staff may not be as Southern as their marketing ads but boy, they are respectful, kind and nice... I ordered the meat galore, Baby back ribs are soft to the touch and melts in your mouth, beef slices were soft, tender and tasty while the garlic mashed potatoes were wonderful. My sister ordered the fish and chips and it wasn't too bad, better that the Brit's' F and C while I was at school in the UK, LOL. The steak and veggies with chops were excellent, the meat was soft not chewy and the veggies tasted creamy and organic. So, if you're passing by the 118 and just want to impress your gang with meats and Southern hospitality, drop by Gus's and you'll never go wrong with your servers and the food that tastes like home-cooked meals.

Yelp
I had a reservation for Saturday during dinner time. It was moderately busy when I arrived. I had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated, which wasn't so bad. If you're planning on eating here, I strongly suggest making a reservation, as the wait times for walk-ins can be very long. I ordered the cornbread, a full rack of Memphis baby back ribs, the 15-spice Cajun wings, fries, and a house-made blueberry mint lemonade. The cornbread is topped with golden, crispy edges and baked right in a mini cast‑iron skillet, served with jalapeno jelly and honey butter. It was a bit on the dry side, but I still enjoyed it. The full rack of Memphis baby back ribs made my visit memorable. The ribs were tender, the meat fell off the bone, and they had the perfect balance of rich, smoky flavor and sauciness. They were some of the best ribs I've had. When you order the ribs, you're prompted to choose two sides. I chose two orders of fries, which I'll talk about next. The fries had a crispy exterior and a soft, fluffy interior. They were lightly salted. I do wish they had more seasoning. The portion is generous, more than enough for one person, and shareable between two if you're getting other sides or a large entree. The 15-Spice Cajun wings were meaty, perfectly seasoned with their dry rub, and delivered a decent kick that was just the right kind of heat. They were cooked perfectly, with a crispy exterior and a juicy interior. I will definitely be getting these wings again next time! The house-made blueberry mint lemonade was rich, jewel-toned, and brimming with vibrant charm. The sweet-tart blueberry pairs beautifully with cool mint and lemon brightness. It was the perfect way to balance out my meal. This restaurant masterfully blends Southern-styled design with casual Californian hospitality. Whether seated in a roomy booth inside, lounging on the patio, or catching the buzz of the bar scene, you'll enjoy a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that's both inviting and dynamic, perfect for family meals, happy hours, or casual celebrations. The service was impeccable. My server checked on me often without being intrusive. This is one of the few times I can easily say that the service had no flaws. This restaurant delivers a full-package experience: great food, warm service, stylish-yet-relaxed ambiance, and dependable consistency. It's one of the best BBQ spots in the area, whether you're in the mood for ribs and fries, cornbread and drinks, or just a friendly night out. Ratings: Cornbread - 4/5 Memphis baby back ribs - 5/5 Fries - 4/5 15-spice Cajun wings - 5/5 House-made blueberry mint lemonade - 5/5 Ambiance - 5/5 Service - 5/5

Yelp
I've been going to Gus's since they first opened. They have been mostly excellent. Sometimes it's not great but the staff are always willing to make it right even though it's not asked for. My reliable favorites have been the brisket combo with sweet corn side. But I recently tried the brisket tacos and surprised how good they were! And the freshly fried tortilla chips are an amazing touch. Couldn't stop eating them. And today was my first time trying their steak in the steak salad option. Wow! Everything about this dish was so delicious! I ate every piece on that plate. Well done Gus and staff!

Yelp
This is a solid choice for lunch or dinner. Very casual. They have a good hamburger. Their French fries are good and they have a really good Cobb salad. The bbq brisket is a little dry but they do have a variety of bbq sauces if needed to flavor your dry meat.

Yelp
Gus's BBQ is a great find when you're in the Porter Ranch area. I love that this place offers a large bar, for those of us that enjoy a quick drink and a meal. The bartenders are extremely friendly, and the team seems to work in sync. Which is cool to watch. I do enjoy their food. I like that they offer a little something for everyone. Some of my favorites are the deviled eggs, pulled pork sandwich, Chicken Fried Steak, Chili, cornbread with butter and Jelly (yum). You won't be disappointed. This place gets full so be prepared to wait a bit. I get lucky from time to time and find plenty of seating at the bar. I recommend.

Yelp
WE LOVE GUS'S! We've come here twice so far and sat at the bar both times and had great experiences with Paul. Friday night they were busy with a 30 minute wait and the manager noticed we were looking for bar seats and she went out of her way to make two happen for us!! Drinks and food are SO GOOD. I highly recommend their Blueberry Lemon Sour which has a yummy vanilla foam top. I love their deviled eggs that come with a smokey salt on the side. I had their Memphis Baby Back Ribs without BBQ sauce (i'm weird, I know). Mac and cheese and mashed potato sides are also so simple but SO GOOD. My boyfriend loves their Gus's Famous Burger. Their happy hour menu is good too, which has the deviled eggs on it aswell as pulled pork nachos. Drinks on happy hour are affordable and yummy. Definitely recommend to everyone for the food and service.

Yelp
The food here is pretty good! And I do feel like they have good deals and the food is definitely shareable making it cheaper!!! I got the chicken and meat combo that gives you a choice of fried or regular chicken, and many choices of meat on the side like brisket, pulled pork, sausages, and you also get two regular sides! The fried chicken was very good and came with a side of gravy, the pulled pork was juicy but needed some bbq sauce! And the brisket was kind of dry. But again everything else was yummy and I want to try more food here! Service wise they were fast and nice and it was pretty busy since it was a Friday afternoon. There was a 30 minute wait. The parking situation was awful though, literally took 10-15 minutes to find parking cause there are lot of other busy restaurants around too! Overall! yummy BBQ place with some good deals and lots of options. I want to try more!

Yelp
Pretty solid bbq spot in Porter Ranch!! Come for the corned bread skillet, my favorite thing and makes my mouth water. Trendy, modern ambiance! We came on a weekend evening with no wait. There's lots of tables, booths, and a bar for a vibey, southern dinner. - Corned Bread Skillet (5/5) - my FAVORITE item here, and just heavenly with the butter spread over. It's a little on the sweet side for corned bread, but that's how I like it. - Baby back ribs (4/5) - good portion, and delicious with the original BBQ sauce. According to the server, this cut is more lean than the other style or ribs. I got mine with a potato salad, and that was just ok. Service was quick and friendly, but they did bring us the wrong sides at first. They quickly corrected it and the rest of dinner went on without a hitch. Food took about 20 min to come out.

Yelp
Barbecue late at night I got there about an hour and a half before they close. The bar was basically empty and I was seated right away. Ambience is about what you expect from the barbecue joint. The food was amazing. Ribs were great. I love the sauce the baked beans were awesome. I didn't really care for the potato salad, but I'm a southern boy so what did I expect? I'll go back and try some of their other meats. It was a solid meal.

Yelp
If you are not looking for a wide selection and need a small bite, visiting around Happy Hour gives you a discount and a good eat. Gus's has a good general menu too, especially, if you are a barbecue fan. Portions are generous and some items done really well. This time, I ordered Gus's Rib Sliders. They are made with pulled rib meat, coleslaw, original bbq sauce, roasted garlic aioli on a seeded bun. Nice stuff. Generous amounts of protein, good barbecue flavor, juicy and blending well with the other ingredients. Service was very attentive and professional.
google avatar

Yelp
The day I went the brisket was on the leaner side and tasted dry to me. Even the second batch I got was not good. I recommend going to the whole foods meat bar for delicious juicy brisket. The st Louis ribs were good. The baby back ribs were dry. Prices are high and whole foods meat is much cheaper and much better. The manager was nice but I was still disappointed in the food. I will not be back.

Yelp
Great bbq! We ordered the picnic platter so we could sample most if the bbq si we got the baby back ribs, beef brisket and fried chicken. Yummmmm, falls of the bone, melts in your mouth good! But first we got to try their famous cornbread with the jalapeno jam made it really good. Then we had some artichoke and spinach dip over melted cheese with chips. Then a bowl of chili and a big serving of gumbo, that gumbo, I love! Their sauces were also amazing especially the Memphis one. Overall I highly recommend eating here if you're craving bbq and some Southern lovin. Service was quick. 5 stars for me

Yelp
We had to wait about 40 minutes for a table but we walked around the shopping center to pass the time. Watch out - on one end Nordstrom rack and on the other a Whole Foods with a wine bar (!!!!). There are a few fire pits along the way as well for a cool night. Enjoyed an average old fashioned drink, some of our food had the mouth feel that it had been under the heat lamps for a bit too long. I had the shrimp and grits - the taste was good but the grits were more like a risotto NOT grits. The ribs were ok. Plate of Pulled pork, a link, and fried chicken with Mac and cheese and dirty rice - hubby said the chicken was AMAZING and the rest was very ok.

Yelp
This is our new Birthday spot when in the mood for BBQ. This is our second time here and we are not disappointed. The food is delicious, prices are good, and staff is friendly. The decor is super cute and kid friendly. I recommend stopping by and tasting this delicious food. P.S: the Sangria is delicious too.

Yelp
My sister and I came to Gus's BBQ for lunch and were impressed! We couldn't wait to take a bite of the quesadilla and tater tots before we took a photo... Everything was delicious and hit the spot. The ambiance was cute and Aaryn K was the most kind and helpful server who really elevated our experience. We will be back!

Yelp
Four years later I've returned. The flavors of the sauce they have for their bbq is not for me. They gave me four different ones and they all tasted unique but I never want to go there again. Walk in and ordered food to go. There wasn't anyone waiting behind the podium and out comes two people (maybe one in training). The one in training seems like he is a good fit in the front representing the company. The woman who was training his never made eye contact with me while ordering or picking up. She smiled but it at me. Beef brisket 5/5 Baby Back Ribs 3.5/5 Jalapeño Grits 0/5 Garlic Mashed Potatoes 2/5 I pictured getting a roll or some bread with my meal but I didn't get that and not sure if they offer it. Over all I wasn't pleased with flavor or the employee I interacted with. 12th of July 2025 1:06pm

Yelp
I don't usually write a lot of reviews but yesterday's service was exemplary. I had made a reservation earlier same day and noted we wanted outdoor seating with extra room for a stroller. The staff accommodated us nicely. Our server is the main reason I am writing this review. Freddie was our server and he took excellent care of us. From making sure we all had everything we needed to providing extra spoons and ice cream for our birthday celebration. Finally at the end of the night we paid in cash and mistakenly had an extra bill stuck together. We wouldn't have known especially because we told Freddie to keep the change we were just about to leave when he came back and told us he believed we accidentally left too much. We thanked him so much but that kind of honesty is rare to find. Because of the service we will definitely keep coming back to Gus's. The BBQ is delicious too that goes without saying.

Yelp
Their skillet cornbread with honey butter is amazing. Hubby got the baby back ribs hand I got brisket. Both were cooked to perfection. Not a huge fan of their bbq sauce so added some sugar for it to taste more like sweet baby rays but other than than that a solid 9/10.

Yelp
Gotta give Gus' it's dues - for a chain bbq restaurant I was legitimately impressed with overall quality of the goods coming out of this kitchen. A bit of shrinkflation notable in their sandwich combos, but for $17 for a Saturday dinner out I ain't complaining. I had the rib sando combo with the mac and cheese - pro move : take some of the rib that's on the plate and stir it in gently onto the mac for the perfect bite. Apps were good to, the cornbread especially. I'd skip the fried onions next time. 4 shiny stars.

Yelp

Yelp
The food is always delicious and the ambiance is nice and clean. It can get crowded and busy especially during the weekends but we never had to wait so long to get seated. Finding parking can take longer even if it's in a big plaza. It's always packed. I've had their dinner and brunch here. Really enjoyed their breakfast but their bbq platters are the best.
google avatar

Courtney F.

Yelp
Went here last week for a birthday and had a good time. I ended up getting something off their southern favorites section, which was the loaded baked potato. This thing was very full and the pulled pork tasted good. I would say everything tasted fine or even good but I've had better bbq for lower prices. The highlight would probably be their apps, those deviled eggs and wings were amazing. Would go back if someone really had their heart set on it. The servers were so friendly and honestly handled our large party so well

Yelp
This is my second time going to Gus's BBQ for their Sunday Brunch menu. This place gets pretty packed on Sundays because the food is really good and the portions are generous. The place is usually packed with families, couples, friends catching up over brunch mimosas. Great vibe for whatever occasion truly. Their basic is drip coffee is always really good nothing to write home about, but also not the standard watered down kind they generally serve elsewhere. The Brisket and Egg Tacos were amazing. I got mine without crema because I'm not a fan of tangy dairy but I'm sure it pairs well if you're a fan. Lots of eggs that are cooked just right, not seized up and overcooked. Brisket pieces are large and generous. There are also potatoes and queso. Altogether a great dish. And don't let these guys in the pic fool you, they're huge and packed full! Big fan 10/10 The breakfast burrito was my boyfriend's and he said they're fairly standard. Good but not anywhere near as good as the tacos. He'd still get it again if he was feeling another breakfast burrito in the future. Subbed the potatoes for the grits because I LOVE the grits at this place. I am a big grits fan, I do have to say, but the jalapeño flavor is really great. Unique for LA I'd say. We shared the strawberry granola pancakes. I do wish they gave more strawberries to be calling it what it is. Having granola as an add-in was quite interesting, never got it anywhere like this. Love the added crunch. Surprised to also find dried cranberries in the pancake! The real winner here is the pancake batter itself. SO SO FLUFFY AND LIGHT! More importantly, it absorbs syrup like a dream. Service here is generally very attentive despite having a full house. Always highly recommended in the area.

Julie M.

Yelp
Disgusting! I ordered the 7oz prime beef brisket. 95% of the brisket was fat. Grilled asparagus was uncooked. Total waste of $32. 1/2 star because the garlic mashed potatoes were decent.

Yelp
I'm always on the hunt for good BBQ in Los Angeles. It's definitely few & far between here. Gus's is a great place to come to to at least scratch that itch. Yes, it's a chain, but that doesn't mean they don't put out a quality meat product. And that definitely rings true for their sauces. Those are fantastic and a great addition to any of the dishes. When I come here usually I get one of their two meat combos. I will say that the brisket is continuously a bit on the dry side. Yes, you can mask that with one of their sauces, but I wish it was a bit more juicy. Their pulled pork & sausages, on the other hand, are always great. Chicken can be hit or miss, but usually on the side of juicy which is great. Their St. Louis style ribs are also really tender & smokey, but I do wish they were a bit on the larger size. You don't get a ton of meat on them. Sides are all solid. None of them are life changing, but I've also yet to have one that didn't taste bad. You can't go wrong with any of their selections. I also want to say that they have a great children's menu. We have 3 young boys and they offer a much wider range of options than most restaurants. And they're all delicious. My kids often go for the salmon which speaks volumes because they're not big non-fried fish fans outside of our house. So points for that! Staff is always incredibly friendly and helpful. Even when we come in large parties they do a great job of giving us wonderful personalized service. That definitely doesn't go unseen for me. So, is Gus' going to be the absolutely most authentic BBQ meal you've ever had? No. But is that a bad thing? I don't think so. And they definitely do BBQ better than a lot of the other offerings in the area. So, if you've got a hankering for some cooked meats, Gus's is a great option that you definitely should check out.

Yelp
We went here for breakfast and surprisingly the food was good! We ordered off the kids menu and brunch menu! We tried the pancakes and the hangover. The portion is big. So sharing is good if you don't eat much for breakfast! It was our first time, the server was busy and another person helped us name Liam-Ann? I'm not sure. She said her name was 2 part. But she was soo nice, informative, and attentive! The ambiance was cozy, southern, and warm! I love that they give lollipops for my son who is excited to come back again for breakfast and the lollipop! Just fyi, lunch menu is only serve starting at 11. But breakfast is 9-2 weekend only

Yelp
[THUMBS DOWN] I've been to this place couple of times but I'm very very disappointed this time. My to go order took longer than usual because, per the staff, food is ready but not packed. The briskets are what seems like left over pieces. They also forgot the gravy for the chicken! Everything is also super salty, I don't know what's going on with this place!!

Yelp
Service was a little slow but it was a busy night. Food was great! The trio of meats was a perfect serving of everything. The sides were good too. The ice cream Sunday was delish! The restaurant is cute

Yelp
Always an amazing experience . Food is consistently on point & delicious . Service is always , always , always 5 star. We've never had to wait for a table with a reservation through Open Table. Today I stopped in for a late lunch and a day flight of dark stout, stone blonde , 1903 (nice and light) and Golden Monkey. My entree I chose 10 oz pulled pork their delicious cinnamon creamed corn & delicious jalapeño grits . Can't get enough of Gus's!

Yelp
Enjoyed a meal with my whole family here, can't truly say anything bad about this place. The food was great, the prices weren't terrible. We were seated by a door on a cold day, but other than that it was an overall good experience. Cornbread was amazing, hot chicken was amazing, wouldn't personally order the string onions again. The manager kept walking around asking people how things were, service was very quick. Would return.

Yelp
I'm gonna jot this down so you get the point fast. Get the Bloody Mary. It's breakfast in a cup and even comes with sides. It is so flavorful and thick and just what everyone needs in the world sometimes. Next almond cinnamon roll. Who cares if you had the Bloody Mary already just think of this as light dessert after your heavy breakfast. It will balance your palette- trust. Then yolo get the classic Benny! Get the flavorblast of creamy yolk in your mouth and then eat a tater tot. This isn't what you want it's what you need. Service was good I drink ten million waters through my meals so it was nice that a refill was always passed by. I sat outside on a nice day and I'd do it again!

Yelp
My first visit was not great. They were out of brisket, ribs and sausage were bland, and service was sloooooow 2/5. My second visit was much better. The chili is fantastic 5/5. The tri-tip was juicy and delicious 4/5. However, the sides of collard greens 2/5 and mac and cheese 3/5 were lacking. I also tried the grits 3/5, which were also ok. And of course....they were out of the brisket! Do they even really have brisket, hmmmmm????

Yelp
Who doesn't love happy hour?! @gussbbq they know how to satisfy your appetite with these yummy offerings! This cornbread that had the most amazing butter and jelly to compliments the crunch and sweetness was fantastic! Pulled pork was tender and every bite made me want more! Deviled eggs had a great zing to them Nachos- need I say more?! And of course to have some #balance a wedge salad with all the accoutrements. The creamed corn was what my dreams are made of! Inside is a laid back casual atmosphere, great to come with family, friends, on a date, bring the kids! Service was amazing, refilling drinks and coming by to check on us regularly.

Yelp
Went back today to give them another shot! Such a different experience. The hostess (11am, 2/2) was super welcoming and sweet upon arrival. Our waiter Riley was a delight! So friendly and personable. He a great humor and all around great energy and really made our experience so much more enjoyable. Night and day difference between our servers from our lady experience. The food was brought out timely. Even small side things I needed were brought out timely and with a smile. This time I got the deviled eggs and pulled pork nachos to start and they were SO GOOD. I'm not sure if this is a difference in staff or maybe bc we came during opening and less busy time? But the food was perfect. We also ordered brisket with mac and cheese and potato salad. The potato salad was recommended by Riley and I'm so glad bc it was so good. Overall everything from food to service was much better! Looking forward to returning! Also the music was on point today! I was asking Siri to get almost every song for me. Great vibes!

Yelp
Aaron at the bar was our server and seriously made the whole experience amazing. Super chill, super helpful, and totally nailed every recommendation. We tried the beer flight and the whiskey flight, and thanks to Aaron, my boyfriend discovered a new favorite Angel's Envy. He's been debating which bottle to buy for weeks, and this one instantly won him over. Amazing recommendation. He really appreciated someone who actually knows what they're talking about! The food was great, the drinks were on point, and the service was top tier. Big shoutout to Aaron for making our night extra awesome!

Yelp
Food: - pulled pork nachos: 8.5/10, saucy and a super big serving - picnic platter: 9.5/10, star was the bbq chicken, it's juicy/tender, brisket was okay, and ribs were tasty (just enough for 2), potato salad was better than the Cole slaw - 4 different types of bbq sauces were at the table Service: - friendly wait staff - too many check ins during my meal - hand wipes were provided Ambiance: - pretty empty on a Saturday around 2pm - no wait and immediately sat down - great lot and shopping center

Yelp
Food was amazing. Service was fast and friendly. We sat in outside patio but they put heated lamps so it feels nice. Fried chicken was made just right! Super crispy outside and tender and juicy inside. Def best thing I tasted last night. Must try if you're in the area.

Yelp
Came on a Saturday afternoon, and even though the parking lot is huge i did have to actively find a spot. I made a reservation and got sat immediately The jelly on the cornbread is crazy good! Never would've crossed my mind at home ever. Definitely wanted to finish the pan myself. Cream corn is fire! Might be my favorite appetizer out of the two The chicken had a funny after taste but i think it was just burnt the sauce they cooked it with wasn't for meonly thing i thought wasn't delicious. My grandmas all American burger was better than your average. Whatever they did to it it worked Service was great between the two waiters

Yelp
Best barbecue in the valley. I've eaten barbecue all over the country and by far this is the best quality of food flavor, and service in the valley

Yelp
I have been coming to this location for over one year now. It is one of my favorite restaurants in Porter Ranch. The food is 5/5 stars but, the service is 3 stars at best. I consistently have poor service on every visit for one year now. I have never had a rude server but they are not attentive. I was here for my anniversary last week. I am currently 36 weeks pregnant with gestational diabetes for which I have to drink a lot of water. My water was empty for at least 10 minutes and not only did my server not stop by during that time no one else passing by offered to refill my water. I ended up having to drink my husband's water and by the time my server noticed we were ready for the bill. Typically waiting for the bill is what by far takes the longest. You really have to be pro active in finding your server and asking for things you need. It's very disappointing that this is a consistent experience regardless of the who the server is. Maybe they are given too many tables? Just got into it knowing service will be very slow and not reliable.

Yelp
Nice environment in a pretty location. The service is great. Our server was very humble and nice person, his name was with "P" ... can't remember exactly. The food was delicious. It really comes in a pretty big portion. The main dishes, even the breakfast you can definitely share . We had a good experience, and I really recommend Gus's BBQ

Yelp
My husband and I have been coming to GUS'S BBQ for over four years now. It's our favorite place to eat - we come here at least twice a week. Customer service is exceptional - from the waiters, greeters, to the managers! Food and drinks are always amazing. The atmosphere maintains its calm and inviting feel, even during peak hours.
