Great little grocery. Produce is very good. The poke/ sushi is great but the other deli items are hit or miss (spring rolls and banh mi wrap I really don’t recommend. Deli fried chicken was very bad. Tasted like fish?) They sell very good orange juice!

A grocery store as they should be, great to-go food, nice selection in all section, BUT... But the last 2 time in there, the cashiers not nice at all, bad attitude, making faces if they feel you dont deserve it... In my opinion, a simple smile to people doesnt cause any harm... just because of the sandwiches, I'll go back.

Haight street is a happening place with colorful shops selling unique products. There are number of cafes and restaurant serving all sort of food; Mediterranean, Chinese, Indian, Mexican and more. Street festivals make it more vibrant.

The newest incarnation of the Haight Street Market is chock full of excellent quality products. Great sandwiches and produce, super friendly staff and outdoor seating to eat.

Amazing Poke bowl. Great service. The poke master is super friendly and professional. The tuna and salmon are all very fresh. Best poke ever.

The price hikes at the deli are ridiculous. Good food but my usual sandwich is now $19 and even though I add bacon and substitute in ranch for the mayo, this unfortunately has become unsustainable. It's disappointing because I am local to the neighborhood and have been a regular customer, but I just can't swallow paying $19 every time for my usual sandwich.

What a gem! Best coffee I've had in San Francisco. Great market for super fresh produce. Cheese counter was off the charts. Make your own poke bowls and house made sushi. I'm a believer!

PLEASE get more cashiers! There is always a ridiculous line and only two cashiers, and they are spending lots of extra time chatting with people instead of getting through the absurd line of customers. It shouldn’t be this difficult to pop in and buy something conveniently.

Get on the bus, Gus! This neighborhood market is super cool! Really, it's like two markets in one. On one side, they have the butcher and checkout. On the other is dry goods, produce and alcohol! They have beautiful bouquets of fresh flowers on display, which is super attractive. The fresh produce all looked nice, and they even had some samples! They stressed how their produce was locally grown. They have a wine selection! With a wine steward on site, who was super helpful and they were able to steer us to some nice bubbly California and Spanish wines. Nom! Checkout was super easy. They accept all credit cards. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, but where isn't that true in San Francisco? Now this isn't where I'd go for staple goods, like TP or trash bags, but they certainly have all the freshest foods that I'd even need!

Got a banh mi and it didn't taste like one at all. I could barely taste the pickled carrots and the mayo just looks like regular mayo which is not authentic. The sandwich is big and filling but it just taste like a ham sandwich with mayo. It came out fast and in a timely manner. I would recommend not getting this if you're looking to want a good banh mi. They have many other options!

Expensive but a great little market! They have so much stuff here for such a small place. Tons of produce, an amazing food counter with all sorts of options, fresh baked breads, etc. never wanted needed anything they didn't have. Mostly friendly service as well!

Their deli sandwiches are HUGE, yummy, and great price point. They also have sandwich punchcards.

This place has fantastic sandwiches. I'm such a sandwich snob and let me tell you, if you haven't tried their sandwiches, you're missing out!!! They do take about 15 minutes to make but it is so so worth it. Pro tip: grab a sando on a Tuesday for double stamps. And if you're not punching your card to secure the free sandwich bag, wyd??? This pace is 12/10!! Also staff here is super nice :)

We had severe food poisoning with the sliced Diestel Turkey from the deli. It was so painful. Stay away from deli meat!

The selection is pretty good, but overpriced. The store's floor plan is annoying, as the produce leads to three long aisles of product. You can't get to the check out register without taking a detour through overpriced stuff. Worst of all, the blond check out girl is rude as heck. Always unfriendly, I wonder if she hates her job?

Love this market! The fruits taste so fresh and sweet I loved the peaches. I tried the lunch sandwhiches at the deli and they were awesome. I would come again

Consistently Gus'- now called Haight Street Market- has been excellent for so many of my grocery needs. They have phenomenal fresh produce, tons of good beverages, tasty sandwiches, amazing sushi, and homemade soups, salad and entrees- and things like salsas, hummus, guacamole made in house! They also feature an impressive cheese selection, wine, a butcher. I did not give them 5 stars because they only have some vegan & vegetarian options, but when they expand, if they include more I will be over the moon- and it can be one stop shopping. I love the staff and the experience of going there, except on busy summer weekends.

My go to grocery store in the city. The options for vegetables and fruits are really fresh. Never have I gotten any fruits or vegetables from here that are bad or sour or too ripe. They always have good product quality products. The poke is another good option from here. You can customized your poke bowl it to whatever you want like adding avocado, cucumber, crab salad (for no extra charge). The sushi is also another option. It's made fresh in the store. The tiger roll is my favorite one. I also like the build your own sandwiches from the store one sandwich and reticular that I always get is the is the Gus a special which is a turkey pesto Apple sandwich. The apples really complement the turkey slices and pesto. Lastly, the employees working at the store are super nice they're really sweet and so open to have a conversation with you while they are bagging up your groceries. Finding this store was like finding a gem in the city!

Today 4/6/2024 I visited this really cute store . They have a great selection of fresh vegetables, fruits, and pretty much everything you need for your grocery shopping. They even make sandwiches at the counter if you feel like having lunch outside. It was my first time there, and I absolutely loved it. I did not have any grocery shopping but I picked up a box of chocolate macaron bites, and they taste amazing! Unfortunately I ate half of the box before I take a picture. lol

Kinda gross. Wanted some cheese but I will have to pass lol. I need this place to return to the good old days... no one seems to care

WHOA! I was on Haight St. on my way to an art store nearby and did a double take when I peered into Gus's market. There was something so bright and fresh about it. I popped in...just to see what was going on since I've never noticed this place. I shop every single day since I cook for a living and love finding great produce. This store is just amazing. The produce is absolutely amazing. The deli and meat department is one of the best I've seen in the city and I am loyal to my current butcher but I would buy anything here. Well, I did the next day actually. The problem for me is parking since well, you know how Haight St. is. I don't want to walk 4 blocks with heavy bags to find my car. So I just wandered around wide eyed checking out their great prices and upscale products. I bought a few things and one of their great shopping bags and spent the rest of the day thinking about Gus's. The next day I drove out to the store in the outer Sunset where there is plenty of parking and again, was just amazed at what a fantastic store this is. 43rd Ave. and Noriega is such a trek for me but worth it! I can't wait to go back and try their ice cream bar. Wish I had photos. Next time...

Love the market and all of the employees, but the establishment needs to fix the floors, which are uneven and UNSAFE.

Usually love this market. I got some scallops from the seafood counter, when I got home I realized while they gave me scallops, they charged me for different more expensive product. The difference was just a few dollars and I should have been more careful and look over all my items I guess, but it's still a bummer.

Nice products, though overpriced. Super cold and unhelpful staff who seem so annoyed constantly. I notice they are nicer to regular (white) customers who they've gotten to know, but otherwise are really unwelcoming. I usually will greet the cashiers and instead of saying hello back, they go straight for "you need a bag?"... idk, there must be something in the air these days

Great pre-made lunches available for pick up including sushi and poke bowls. The rest of the grocery store is much larger than it appears from the outside and includes your normal staples in addition to things like coffee beans and pies. I've never had to wait in line here and overall the store is very clean.

This is my favorite local grocery near me! I get all my produce from here- friendly staff! They are more affordable than Whole Foods, and have a lot of vegan/veg healthy options. I also sometimes get sushi from there. Pretty decent sushi- the spicy salmon roll wasn't spicy at all but still a delicious meal.

Great selection of fresh food and wine. The staff is friendly and the store is cute and welcoming.

I used to really love going to Gus's as a nice local neighborhood spot I could support (so I'm giving 2 stars for my previous positive experiences) but I really hope Gus's addresses their recent customer issues with the deli. The last three times I went to the deli my order had been wrong in some capacity (sandwich missing toppings, regular mayo being used instead of veganaise, advertised hot sandwich not even toasted, etc). The deli is usually pretty busy when I go so I always let it slide because it's not a huge deal to me but this time I opened my sandwich in the car before getting home and there was a hair in the wrapping and a dead fly squished into the top. I used my sandwich card to redeem the fly sandwich so I just popped back in to show them that there was a bug on my food and request that they give me back a full punch card so i could redeem the sandwich later since I didn't have time to wait for the deli to make another. The cashier (Karen I think) made me totally regret walking back in made a whole scene out of me just asking for a punchcard when the store was already crowded and the line was long. She asked who checked me out and I told her who, but that seemed irrelevant since all I was asking for was a full punchcard so that I could get the same sandwich later. She then involved another employee (still not the person who checked me out) and then got mad at him for punching my card. As I walked out, she went behind the deli counter and showed them my sandwich and said "that's not a fly!" It was not only unprofessional but embarrassing and untrue--see picture below. I'm not writing this review to get anyone in trouble, I'm just hoping management gets the deli to be functional again. I felt compelled to write a review because every time I go to Gus's, all the employees are really stressed and whenever there's a problem, it seems like whatever protocol is in place isn't very effective. I'm just hoping Gus's shows their employees appreciation and considers what they need to succeed on the job so I can support my neighborhood spot again. I also want to note the person picking up their sandwich immediately before mine had three sandwiches incorrect and had to wait for the deli to remake them-- so I know I'm not the only one who's had problems there! I'll update my review if the issues are addressed since I don't like to leave negative reviews!

I've never given a bad review to a grocery store before but today's experience warrants it. I have been a loyal Gus's customer for years and since I eat on the go a lot, I eat a lot of Sandos there. I'm a member of their frequent sandwich club and one of the cashiers there, says she was the manager, disrespected me today in a way I don't think I'll ever get over. I showed up with my completed sandwich card, she took it, told me it had TOO MANY stamps on it, and refused to give it back to me, told me that I would have to pay for the sandwich that I was getting, and embarrassed me in front of all of the patrons there by threatening me! She kept insisting that none of her cashiers would ever overstamp the cards, neglecting that if her theory was correct, one of them is so bad at their jobs that they gave me this card back after I used it? This older Karen behind the counter might be the worst customer service I've ever received in any grocery store in America and I will never patronize this market again.

I love visiting this grocery store! They have such fresh produce and super friendly staff. I also love getting their deli sandwiches, which are great value for the price. One sandwich will easily last me two lunches and they have a loyalty punch card so when you get 8 sandwiches, you get a free one. They also have "double punch tuesdays" so you can make great progress on your sandwich card if you go then.

I must admit, I only come here for 2 things the deli and produce. But with that said, I'm sure you'll be happy with the entire store. Great sandwiches! Fresh & Delicious produce! I'm a little late to the party in learning that the owner (Gus) was killed in a tragic hit & run accident. So sad and RIP, Gus! My ex girlfriend lived around the corner and I remember coming here early in the mornings before work and chatting with Gus. Super nice guy who took pride in a locally owned market.

I've been coming in here for over 20years, i see that only time helps this place. if Gus was alive, he would've put himself unground. Can someone teach/show ,WYATT, how to care for groceries specially if he check/ring the customers? Please. He really does care, no Hello,hi, nothing, back to the person he checks. My partner and I moved to Haight Ashbury at the beginning of 2020 and have been so grateful to have such an excellent grocery store nearby. It is truly a gem that can be overlooked if you're just visiting Haight St for retail shopping, etc. The thing I probably enjoy most about HSM (aka, Gus') is the diversity of options. For a relatively small store, they always seem to have everything I'm looking for, whether it's a certain produce item, plant-based/vegan option, or delicious beer. Speaking of produce, the quality is so on point. For those of you tired of TJ produce that goes bad instantaneously, go to Gus. The veggies and fruit taste and look great. And while the prices are certainly not in the TJ range they are definitely reasonable. Ultimately, you get what you pay for and hands down I would rather support Gus vs the corporate WF nonsense down the street. Also, I would be remiss not to mention the giant deli section they have on the left side of the store. While I haven't had any food from here yet I am looking forward to it.

Love my neighborhood grocer! Their meat and fish counter are so diverse. And the service is always so friendly even at the 6 o'clock rush. They have so many options for a small footprint store. Just tried their recommended wine from local maker. Really great with scallops.

Lately sandwiches advertised as "Served Hot" at the DELI come refrigerator cold to room temperature. They are toasted but by no means hot. It's pretty disappointing if you're looking forward to that "hot"sandwich. Time to give this spot a break and try other neighborhood spots.

13 years ago I wrote a 5 stars review for the Upper Height Guss' Community Market. Sadly this location that used to be such a wonderful place to shop and feel like a true community is nothing like that anymore. Since the untimely death of the wonderful Gus this location has suffered tremendously. I still remember the days of going there, shooting the breeze with the old guy, talking to Georgia and giving Bobby loads of crap. I remember drinking Ouzo to celebrate New Years with Gus. What a tragedy it was losing him and what has happened to this location. The quality of products, particularly the produce department, still is quite good. Fish counter is hit and miss. However, their customer service is beyond repair. Rude, uninterested, unprofessional, not knowledgeable, just to use a few adjectives that come to mind. Bobby, if you read this, please ring me up (like I asked one of your store managers to ask you to do). Your profile here on Yelp says you are open to feedback.

$12.00 for a basic sandwich, rude employee and no bathroom available for customers. Also their Harrison street location uses the handicap parking as a loading dock and delivery driver hangout. For the money, which is overpriced, there are better options. Place has gone downhill since the owner died.

Haight Street Market is a Gus's Market. Gus was the Greek grocery store owner who got run over late night a few years back. I think his sons still run these grocery stores. I decided on fresh-squeezed orange juice to try from the pick-up cafe and deli. They have smoothies. It's a nice grocery store with gourmet items and it may be over-priced. It's nice to browse and is another option in San Francisco for the grocery-store enthusiast. They have a seating area bench outside the store and you can sit down and maybe have a chat.

Horrible experience at the smoothie counter. It was the worst experience buying something I've ever had. Rude slow and nasty woman at the counter. Very opposite to everything around.

My all time fav grocery store. They manage to pack a ton of variety into a small space. Affordable prices for high quality items. Great sandwich bar. Staff is super friendly, especially the guys at the butcher counter. Coffee bar and bagels are great too. I feel so lucky to have this gem as my regular local grocery spot!

My go-to grocery store especially this year. I refuse to give another dime of my money to Amazon/Whole Foods. It's a little hard to stay distanced in here but I think every other customer that shops here is just as considerate as I think I am about making space and staying out of the way in the narrow aisles. Every time I come in here the shelves are being restocked so I've never had a hard time getting what I needed. Even during the toilet paper crisis of March/April I was always able to get paper goods here! Anyway, thanks for always having my fav Sancerre and for being a block from my house. Every time I've needed to pick up just one ingredient I've needed for dinner you've been here for me for the last 8 yrs. You have no idea how many times I've needed an onion.

Haight Street Market (Gus's) is honestly one of my favorite local markets in the city. It's actually kind of amazing how they pack so many products (and good ones!) in a small store. One of the reasons I love this spot is because of the fair pricing. There are organic and conventional products/produce -- and all are within reasonable price ranges. I've actually been pleasantly surprised the number of times I've located very distinct, specific ingredients at Haight Street Market. Again, the prices are fair. The produce is also excellent. I've rarely had a vegetable or piece of fruit I didn't like. Their butchers are friendly and attentive, while the meat & seafood are also priced at reasonable rates. They also have regular sales on proteins I enjoy (e.g. chicken thighs, pork chops) so that helps as well! Finally, I appreciate their prepared foods as well. Their roast chicken and lemon hummus are my go-to items. Thank you also to the team at Gus's stores across the city for keeping your markets well-stocked and functioning during these precarious times!

Cool little market in the Haight that doesn't seem to have enough space, but has almost everything you would need in small quantities w not so much brand selection...fresh fruits and produce, deli, fresh seafood stand, frozen food section, dairy section, and all the random dry spices and oils you could possibly need. The only catch w this place is that it is more expensive than the Whole Foods just down the street w less options. These days, small stores means long COVID-19 lines and waits in cold weather...choices, choices, choices... Happy shopping!

The groceries are quite expensive so I don't do my weekly shopping here, just to grab last minute things since it's the closest to where I live. But this review is about their poke. This is the most reasonably priced poke I have seen in SF and it is very consistent. It's my go to lunch and has huge portions. I usually have it for lunch and then skip dinner entirely. The man who makes them is super nice and very generous. You can get them custom made if you catch his attention or just pick up one of the pre-made bowls they put out if you're in a hurry and not as picky as me. Good sandwiches too! Avoid going here on weekdays between 11:15-12 ish. It's the lunch time rush of the nearby high school students and they crowd the place and make the lines super long.

Great marketplace. They had everything I needed, plus it's mostly local produce. I lived in this neighborhood for 5 years back in the 2000s. Gus and his family were and are local Jems. Buy local!

I love this market! EVERYTIME I'm in Haight street we make sure to come here for a bite. Their deli sandwiches are soo good! Super fresh And OMG you can build your own POKE BOWL now yay The gentlemen who made my bowl was soo sweet and polite :) I got 3 scoops of salmon and did not get sick from it! Can't wait to come here again for a poke bowl and there's calamari as a topping

Had to prove my disability the security guard this morning, as well as show him my Trained Service Dog's authorization from the California Department of Heath and my medical records before he believed his tags, harness, and patches were legit. "I only go by Federal Law", he stated, as if the Americans with Disabilities Act suddenly excludes California....

Nice spot for quality food & drink. They have a good selection of local and organic fruits and veggies, and you can usually snag a deal on whatever's in season. You can also run in for a bottle of wine and some fancy cheese, or a quick lunch from their hot bar. They even have a coffee bar with a loyalty card. I recently created a poke bowl there and it was really fresh and filling. Overall, a great place to check out if you like to support local businesses.

What can I say that hasn't been said 500 times about Gus's aka Haight Street Market? In short, it's a local jewel of a mom 'n' pop supermarket. Parking is the only issue that prevents me from shopping more than I do - it is in the heart of Haight Street and it's a nightmare. If you live in the neighborhood, you'd be crazy to shop Whole Foods instead of this gem which has everything the big box store does but a whole lot more soul for a lot less cash. Gorgeous bins and row upon row of super fresh produce, many with special pricing (you don't often see that in any produce department), aisles of groceries and possibly the very best prepared food section - anywhere in the country. People line up for their sandwiches which I hear are very special. Try not to go during lunchtime as the sandwich counter is in the same space as the registers and it gets a little nuts, quite a logjam, but the staff does try to keep the line moving. Speaking of the staff: The employees at Gus's are so proactively helpful and cheerful that it makes me happy just to walk in the door. If Haight Street Market were a relative, it'd be your burly, lovable, pot-smoking, motorcycle-riding gentle giant of an uncle who'd give you a big bear hug every time he'd see you.

Why they are awesome: 1. They call me "miss" instead of "ma'am" 2. Almost always have what I need 3. The checkout line (while sometimes long) constantly moves 4. They stock what I like 5. They have mini shopping carts for kids The narrow aisles force you to exercise your manners, which is a great thing to exercise. Politeness is awesome. Space is at a premium so things are stocked from the bottom to top. You might find some things are marked up a bit more than expected (i.e., taco shells) but it's still a grocery store that needs to make money, so there's that. But with the help of hella friendly people, you'll find what you need while totally feeling like part of the neighborhood while waiting to pay.

A tell-tale sign of an amazing place is the bustling of customers going in and out of this place. It's just a plain ol' market on Haight right? Not really, it's pretty much a gem! My close friend who currently lives in SF suggested many places in the district to eat at, but the number of what looked like locals soaking in the sun and having lunch in front of Haight Street Market was enough to draw me in. My friend told me about the awesome sandwiches they had here at the deli section so we decided to split one. We got the 710 BLT on Sourdough and a package of their Smoked Mozzarella Pasta Salad, also grabbed some coconut water and aloe juice to drink. The 710 BLT had Bacon, Romaine Lettuce, Tomato, Avocado and Mayo- of course. It was probably the best version of BLT I've had. It didn't feel too heavy, good amount in between the sourdough buns which lasted me most of the day. Ike's you got nothing on this! The pasta salad was surprisingly good the sauce was smokey and light, had slices of sun dried tomato, penne pasta and cubes of Mozzarella cheese. One of the best pasta salads I've had, you know it's fresh too by the constant customers taking these out. The workers were all very friendly and quick. The atmosphere was comfortable, as I looked around the market which ranged from really cheap organic produce, wines, cheeses, deli items to cafe. This was basically a more compact, cheaper version of Whole Foods. Organic strawberries for $1.50, you can't even get strawberries from Lucky at that price. There are tables and seats right outside the market to bask in the weather and to have a quick bite. It's perfect. This place is a gem of the Haight-Ashbury district.

Update the punch card value !!!!!!! I used to get my coffee here every day because they had a stamp card just like the sandwich stamp card, after 8 coffees/sandwiches you get a free one (free meaning the value of the card was enough to purchase the coffee/sandwich.) Then they raised their prices so much that the stamp card value isn't enough to redeem for a freebie. Pretty ridiculous seeing how the cost of the coffee is $4.95!! And the sandwich over $11, I will say the last sandwich I got was undersized, burnt and barely any pork for a pulled pork sandwich. The price keeps going up and up for things like this and other items, so now instead of getting to treat yourself to something free they're still pulling more money out your pockets. Bad business imo. why don't you guys update your stamp cards!! It doesn't make anyone want to use them if they don't redeem anything free ..overall The market is decent. some good choices but most of things are over priced. I would go to Safeway or Luckys instead . I would only shop at gus's market if I had no time to shop elsewhere or was rich lol
