Yelp
Very bad prepared foods, well it is Italian-American, which has very little to do with real Italian prepared foods, but it depends on what one's expectations, I guess. Less of the truly Italian favorites through the years (such as bitter almond macarons, certain cheeses, the quality of the mozzarella di buffala has gone down, and sopressatas, unpitted olives, coffee, Italian chocolates for the holidays are more scarse) but still a good choice of prociuttos and a few specialty items such as il famoso parmigiano al latte di vacche rosse ("Solo do bruna").
Some of the staff at the deli counter is curt--fine, they are busy. Some are snarky and borderline rude that is, until your husband shows up and takes over... Well, well, surprise, surprise... These people should remember that there are not too many items in their store that could not be purchased somewhere else in town.
The deli wrapping in plastic zipper bags is hard to circumvent--how about plain paper, compostable bags or my own glass containers?
I would have given a 4 star rating if the deli staff had been less gratuitously rude and acted less bothered about placing your purchases in the clean clear glass containers brought specifically to reduce waste. The manager, to whom I directly spoke about it, is all for it and the staff will do it when he is around. Otherwise, they show how bothered they are about it, which lead me to purchase certain items elsewhere.
Oh well, it is a good reason to see what's around, although I am usually a very faithful repeat customer and would have liked to remain so for this local favorite.
