Being a Parent in the Restaurant Industry Shouldn’t Be This Hard | Bon Appétit

"A high-profile hospitality venue where a line cook worked early in her career and found the schedule and culture incompatible with family life; a discouraging comment from a supervisor prompted her to leave and pursue catering work that allowed greater flexibility and presence with her children." - ByLydia Kiesling

Google
Bridget was amazing, she answered all my questions and provided excellent service. The gluten free bun on my Tatted up burger was soft and delicious. Must try the caliente margarita and the Kobe burger was a full mouth experience.

Google
If you’re looking for flavor town I can’t say to go here. Most flavorful thing was the trash can nachos, main courses were bland in comparison. If it’s a nice day I recommend asking to sit on the patio outside, nice views with the food. If you want to give it a try I would go for it, I can only recommend the trash can nacho appetizer.

This was our first time here and everything was incredible. Bridget was our server and was amazing! We will definitely be back!

Google
Bridget was our server and she was very kind and attentive! We came early for my mom’s birthday and had the restaurant to ourselves virtually. The french fries and chocolate whiskey cake were my favorite bites.

The restaurant is in perfect condition. It is very clean and everything is still like it just opened. There were 4 of us. 2 being kids. The lemonade is very fresh. Perfect for a hot summer day. We had the stuffed manicotti as an appetizer and it was very good. Tiny kick to it, but it was delicious. We also tried the dragons breath chili and the spicy honey wings. Both were very flavorful and we will definitely be craving the chili in the near future. The Mac n cheese is very cheesy and a hit around the table. Our favorite was the fry trio. The ranch is definitely homemade. It is outstanding. Now for the downside... The Ceasar salad was good, minus the steak being very undercooked. It had a gray color to it. Not very appealing. The ribs were not flavorful and they were very fatty. Wouldn't suggest those 2 items. The rest were delicious. We will try again for sure.

Went here while visiting family. Located inside Harrah's Casino, parking was very easy. The food was great, huge portions.Good choices on the menu. Our service was very friendly and fast, good atmosphere. We can't say enough about the food, very good! Oh yeah, the drinks were great too.

Google
Warm, inviting atmosphere. Many tv’s to watch sports if you want. There’s a bar area toward the back of the restaurant - booths and tables of varying sizes. Our server was friendly, responsive and truly made our Christmas Eve experience amazing! Food is plentiful! We shared a turkey club and fries. Other tables didn’t and all required to-go boxes. I’d highly recommend and will return to try other dishes! Our server said there are nightly specials on different items, so we’re excited to return.

Amazing Food, so flavorful. Don't let the mix match ingredients scare you, everything works so well together. 😋😋😋 🥓 Smoked Shotgun Shells - Crazy Bold Amazing flavor - Manicotti Pasta Shells wrapped in Bacon sausage, cheese topped with Bourbon Brown-Sugar BBQ sauce 🌮 Pulled Pork Tacos - so many great floavors coming together (try the "ranch" with it to die for garlic aioli) 🧈 Philly Cheese-Steak Egg Rolls - so flavorful 🍗 Buffalo & Hot Honey Garlic Wings😋 Service was OUTSTANDING. Bridget so wonderful to have as our server, definitely Top 10 servers ever and we've eaten all over the US from dives to lots of fine dining. Highly recommend asking for her 🥰

Yelp
I don't remember if I put up a review of this or not before. My first experience was walking in seeing the menu and feeling like it was just way too high priced - it seemed to take a while to get wait staff to come to the table so I ended up leaving that time. Now mind you this is back when they first opened, so I didn't write a review because one I hadn't really experienced the food or the service and two just because my first impression wasn't great doesn't mean I want to write a review right away. The second time I went back I loved the food we had a great waiter he was wonderful to work with. I do think they're fried trio while interesting is kind of a little bit silly it would be a little different if you were getting to experience three different types of fry flavors. Instead you really just get a try three different types of standard fries. Again I remember thinking things were a little expensive for a burger. However I have since been back two more times and I don't know if prices have actually been adjusted to where they're more reasonable or I'm just a little bit more aware of common costs. But I've had different burgers each time I've been and I have been very happy as have been the people who have been with me. I will definitely continue to come back.

Yelp
2 stars only because the bartender was awesome and tried really hard. The place was dead and it took about an hour and 10 minutes for our food to arrive and they got mine wrong. They redid it really quick and the fries were undercooked. Really a poor experience and we got comped 1 beer to make up for it. Terrible execution by the kitchen.

Yelp
Very nice service here. Our server I think may have been a manager and she was great to us. The food was honestly amazing as well. I had the Righteous Roast Beef and it was probably the best "sandwich" (open-faced) I've had. Would come here again.

Yelp
Decent experience at Guy's, but nothing special. The interior is clean and relatively modern but pretty standard. I ordered the old skool cheesesteak sandwich--the meat was pretty good quality but I would have wanted more veggies inside. In fact, I asked for jalapeños to be added but don't think I got any. The fries were hot and crispy.

Yelp
GOOD food, GREAT waiter. I enjoyed the Ruben sammich, best I've had in a while. My wife went for the daily special of coconut shrimp. She enjoyed hers as well. I asked if they had chocolate cake for her birthday, and he said we sure do, returning with a few piece of Birhday cake, AMAZINGLY GOOD. The setting was perfect for the occasion.

Yelp
I'm so bummed to report that Flavortown let me down. I went for dinner on a Sunday night with some friends, and we were seated right away. The place was not terribly busy at the time, and we received prompt and attentive service throughout. I ordered the veggie burger, as it was the only vegetarian option on the menu. I've been an herbivore in the midwest for many years at this point, so I am no stranger to a lack of options or mediocre veggie burgers, but this particular one stands out. The patty smelled like it would taste like something, savory spices and such, but it just didn't. One of my dining companions tried it and described it as "negative flavor." The same, unfortunately, goes for the whole wheat bun. I couldn't tell you what it tasted like, because there wasn't anything there. The only discernable flavor was plain vinegar from the shredded lettuce. I have never had a burger with vinegar-dressed lettuce on it, and it might have been OK if the rest of the components had contributed anything. As it was, the vinegar alone could not carry this sandwich. My margarita was decent, if not particularly strong. The fries (a blend of regular, curly, and waffle) were hot, fresh, and seasoned well. I might not have been so disappointed by the world's blandest veggie burger if I hadn't enjoyed it in an establishment that calls itself Flavortown. I would typically give places another go, but I'm not sure if this single veggie option would be worth the return trip.

Yelp
This restaurant is located on the lower level of the Harrahs casino in Council Bluffs. Complementary parking is available with valet available during concert events for a small price. The restaurant itself has been newly refurbished. Where is the overall exterior of the casino is a little worn and could use some TLC. The restaurant offers what I will call as your typical bar fare but at a different level than you've ever had before. Appetizers searches, chicken wings have our cooked to perfection and their onion rings tower was awesome with Guys signature barbecue sauce. The Kobe burgers were absolutely off the charts and generous proportions that could've been split between two people! We ended up having enough to take home for lunch the next day. Not a large selection of health foods at this particular restaurant! Full bar is available, and a nice selection of House Cocktails. The bartender was accommodating and created a Mocktail for someone in our party who is our designated driver for the evening. The service was absolutely fantastic! Can't say enough about the teamwork that took place has all the servers were checking on each other's customers to ensure that nothing was overlooked. Savvy visitors can grab a seat that overlooks the stir cove concert venue for dinner, and a show option as their schedule permits!

Yelp
We tried their breakfast today! It was pretty decent. I tried the breakfast burrito and my wife tried their breakfast burger. My burrito was okay, the side of hash browns were tasty. Nice and crispy but fluffy on the inside. The burger was good ! You typical breakfast burger. The restaurant was smaller than I was expecting. The service was friendly, but overall kinda slow and seemed a little under staffed. There were a good handful of dirty tables when we arrived. Im not sure if I'd try it again.

Yelp
Went there for Christmas breakfast and had the French toast. I don't normally see it come with eggs and bacon but wow! Eggs were cooked perfectly over hard and the French toast haddock like a brown sugar lightly glazed and the bread was fluffy. I could only eat 3 of the French toast and brought the bacon home for the dog

Yelp
In Council Bluffs Iowa celebrating our 36th wedding anniversary stayed at the hotel this weekend had these Shotgun Shells! Amazing! Love andouie! Ribs, spicy coleslaw I've never had spicy coleslaw! Fabulous dinner & Bridget our server was fantastic!

Yelp
Beautiful little restaurant. Hostess greeted us quickly. Even allowed us to switch from table to a booth. We both just had water to drink. Husband ordered the steak sandwich and fries. Sandwich was excellent, fries were a bit too salty for him. I ordered the trash can nachos. They were excellent, but quite a few pieces of the pork were just fat. My husband enjoyed eating those though. Our waitress did an excellent presentation of the nachos and the manager even came to check on us. We will be back!

Yelp
I give this place a three. The staff was very very friendly. Helpful when it came to ordering food and what was on the menu. I ordered a Cesar salad and it was extra to add the steak of course. The salad was dry for my likings. So I had to keep asking for more dressing. The steak was perfectly cooked to my likes. The only thing that made me dislike this place there was no changing table in the ladies bathroom. Of course my baby had a blowout in the restaurant. I had to change the baby in a awkward unsafe way on the counter top. So Guy if you ever read this please put a changing table somewhere in the bathroom.

Yelp
I was so excited to read Guy Fieri was bringing one his restaurants to the Omaha/Council Bluffs area, so naturally I had to go try it. I stopped in for a birthday lunch last week with my wife and we were pleasantly surprised with how open the seating was. For being a little slower day, the service was ok, but I'm going to give them a pass on this given they just opened a few weeks ago. The menu boasts a wide ranch of options from large appetizers, to salads and sandwiches to full entrees as well. We each went with a sandwich - I tried their BBQ pulled pork and my wife had the fried chicken sandwich. Both were accompanied with their fry trio, which is a unique take on your traditional side of fries. They include steak, curly and waffle fries! These sandwiches were ginormous! I was thankful we skipped an appetizer today because there was no way we needed one. Both sandwiches were full of robust flavor and mouth-watering tender meats. Excellent choices all around. We added a few drinks to our order. A strawberry Margherita and the Guy Tai (Mai Tai). Both were very flavorful and refreshing, but a little on the pricier side. We mentioned it was my birthday and typically they offer a small cupcake out waitress said but since they were out, she offered a full dessert instead on the house. We went with their whiskey infused chocolate cake - definitely worth the price! Rich, gooey, and chocolatey.. what more could you ask for? I can't wait to come back to try more of their menu because it all looked so good!

Yelp
I went to this restaurant 3 times during my visit as I was staying in the hotel its located in. Each time I sat at the bar since I was by myself. Atmosphere is nice, nothing fancy but everything was clean and updated. The food was good, nothing in particular stood out but I enjoyed everything I tried. The fried chicken sandwich was huge and the breakfast buffet on Saturday was excellent with a good amount of options. The pastries at the buffet seemed less than fresh, still edible though. The bartenders however could be a bit more friendly. Each time I went it felt like they were rushing me to pay and leave despite the bar area not being that busy. Twice I was handed my check before I asked for it since I was planning on staying a bit longer. On my second visit the bar manager even walked by me and said "oh, you're still around", I'm sure she didn't mean to sound so sarcastic but coupled with the other experiences it really made me feel like I was a bother to them. I don't have plans to travel to Omaha again but if I did I would probably go back since the food was pretty decent.

Yelp
Finally made it out the this spot. Had high hopes but ultimately found it very average. The service was great and where the bulk of the rating comes from, but the food was incredibly mediocre. Our onion loaf tasted great but was drenched in oil. My chicken sandwich was a bit dry and chewy and everything else in it felt underwhelming. Wife had the Reuben and found it to be disappointing, she loves Reuben sandwiches but wouldn't consider doing so here again. Two kids had cheeseburgers, they said they were ok, nothing special and same with my third kids chicken tenders. Like any place I think a minimum of two visits is fair to make a final determination but it's not a place I'll be rushing back to any time soon.

Nathan B.

Yelp
The food is mediocre and not worth the price. We had the trashcan nachos and they were somehow over seasoned and not flavorful. We only ate here because it was hot outside at the concert. If this is flavortown take a detour to anywhere else.
google avatar

Yelp
Honey garlic wings were really good, the prime time burger was good but you'd expect more for a 23 dollar burger
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
I was almost swayed by the bad reviews not to come check it out, but I'm so glad I ignored them! Went with my husband on a Monday night for our anniversary. Zero wait, sat right at the bar. Had the friendliest greeting very quickly from Hannah May, the bartender. The cocktails? DELICIOUS and generous! The food? 10/10. Got the chili cheese fries and the brown sugar wings, both were amazing. Ended the night with the Brookie and it was outta this world. The atmosphere is great, the bartender was the sweetest ever, and we will be back very soon. GREAT addition to the Omaha/Council Bluffs area!

Yelp
The brunch menu seemed pretty expensive for a makeshift buffet. The food was a bit bland as well, kind of a miss all together. Seemed more like an overpriced continental breakfast. I would prefer a brunch menu where items can be ordered individually. Doing that could definitely help what looks like a failing Harrah's location. In short, the brunch buffet isn't worth it.

Yelp
We had to come see what Guy's restaurant was all about. We started with the Pepperoni Pizza pops. The are warm, had great flavor and the house made pepperoni marinara sauce was delicious. My boys went for the burgers. The Bacon Mac-N-cheese was a heat. The beef was very tasty. I had the pulled pork. I ate it with a fork and knife as it was so big. The coleslaw was a perfect touch. I did not thing cheese belong on this sandwich, but I enjoyed it. A great visit.

Bryan A.

Yelp
You know...I love tha guy and tha show. But this place really lets you down. Go to McDonalds. Don't waste your time and money.

Yelp
Avoid this place!! This was by far the worse dining experience of my life. The best thing they have going is Devin. I waited at the hosts stand for about 5 mins before anyone came to greet me. It was strange because the place was empty. Anyhow, I requested to sit at the bar. As I passed through the restaurant there were several dirty tables just sitting there as other wait staff sat guests and took their order. Maybe the tables were self cleaning. SMH. As I approached the bar area there were so many knats flying around. Hmmm I wonder why. Maybe it was the 20 dirty glasses sitting on the bar waiting to be washed. Devin introduced himself, explained he was a bit backed up and asked for my patience. Absolutely I'll wait until you guys clean up this mess. He and I engaged in conversation but I couldn't help but to notice he was working with a bar that was not stocked the night before nor the morning of his shift, as he came in in the evening. That in itself is a managerial issue. He was out of garnishes to dress those high dollar drinks you guys want ppl to buy. The place was so empty but none of the servers offered to come help wash the glasses or cut garnishes. Devin was running back and forth to the kitchen cutting up jalapeños. This wasn't a team environment. More like every man for himself. Again... managerial issue. SMH. Ok the food. Whew! I ordered the ribs. I was very disappointed as the sides were prefix, they came with Mac and cheese and coleslaw. There were no other sides like veggies listed on the menu to choose from. I asked for asparagus. I received 4 and that was $6.99! Lol crazy huh! Yea I know. So, the ribs were tough as shoe leather, the Mac and cheese tasted imitation and the coleslaw was just nasty. Basically the food was trash OR that's where it belonged. There was no manager on duty and Devin did all he could to make my experience pleasurable. However, he wasn't the cook nor the manager. The ambience was nice as it had an outside patio that faced the stage. Will I be back you ask... absolutely not! I don't care if Guy himself gave out free coupons! This was a total waste of time! Oh I forgot to mention. This is a new restaurant

Missy M.

Yelp
We liked the apps more than the entrees themselves... the ambience was fantastic other than the blinding lights above the table. Service was impeccable!

Ruby K.

Yelp
Went to this restaurant for the first time on June 17th and did not have a great visit. We were seated right away and our waitress asked for our drinks. We took about 3-4 minutes deciding what to eat and placed our orders. After about 25 minutes, we still had not received our food and had noticed that people who arrived after us were starting to receive their food. I was getting ready to walk out when the waitress finally came over and said she was not sure what happened to our ticket but that she gave it to the kitchen and should be coming out soon. We finally got our food about 30 minutes after ordering. The food itself was okay but not worth the wait.

Tom W.

Yelp
The service was good. I ordered the grilled chicken salad and was surprized the grilled chicken was square chicken bites from a bag. You'd think at Guy's restaurants they would at least grill a chicken breast and not pull it from a bag. I won't be back.

Gina T.

Yelp
I have been to several of Guy's restaurants, and never been so disappointed... our order was lost... offer us desert. When food finally came, it was cold. On the 2nd attempt, it was okay. Never offer dessert again, was given 2 beverages, and bill was still over $100. We had requested an out door table, we were 1st told those were VIP or invite only... the manager did tell us at the end this was not correct and should have been seated outside. I understand this is day 3, but there were more staff than filled tables. I hope this place gets its act together. Oh, the fries were the best part of dinner.. had the dessert ever came I would let you know how that was.

Yelp R.

Yelp
I love making reservations at a new restaurant only to be told after waiting an hour that its not a full menu. Like that might be important information beforehand, not everybody goes there for concerts. Some people actually go there to eat... so all they had were hamburgers, and I do love hamburgers, but the bread was a little dry... burgers, a little overcooked, and the prices were quite high.

Sophia C.

Yelp
Wasn't the best. Had seasoned chips lol? The server was nice but still the food not so much.

Gabriela A.

Yelp
The service was fast and friendly. For drinks we each ordered a margarita one was $16.99 the other $18.99 for a pint glass full. We started with the pepperoni pizza pops which came out cold and undercooked on the inside. It seemed like they were cooked yesterday or earlier, frozen, then microwaved to get warm again. Our server was very understanding and took the item right off the bill. For the main courses we tried the buffalo wings ($15.99) and the bacon Mac n cheese burger ($19.99.)Again, the items werent hot just warm. The wings were called buffalo but seemed to be more of a Cajun type of rub rather than sauce. Bacon burger was large but fries were definitely old sitting under a heat lamp. Total was

Tiffany S.

Yelp
Onion loaf was AWESOME! Turkey burger and Motley Que burgers were good and messy. Come with an appetite and friends! I'd definitely go again.

Jay L.

Yelp
This was a disappointment at best. When a kid can't eat his chicken tenders.. because they are just breaded breading.. sad day. Guy would not eat this food, so he should take the name off the storefront. Irene was legit. She deserves to work at a Michelin restaurant.

Huynh H.

Yelp
Awesome burgers despite the reviews! Quick service resulted in huge and delicious burgers cooked to perfection! The wings, however, was pretty average. Definitely try out this place when you visit Harrah's.

Cory S.

Yelp
I have eaten almost everything on the menu. The standouts have to be The turkey burger, the Mac n cheese burger and the chicken pasta dish. Definitely try the shotgun shells for an appetizer! The music playing while you dine is a great selection of classic rock. Not only do Greg and the chefs do an amazing and consistent job every visit with their culinary skills, the service is exceptional as well. You are always greeted with a warming smile from Marissa or Mandy and Ivan, Bridgette, Mary and he crew make sure your food is brought to you in a friendly and timely manner. I love this place and the price is right because you are getting high quality food.

S S.

Yelp
We wouldn't recommend eating here and will not go again!!! Although most people in our small group thought their main courses were OK, the ribs were tough and had no flavor. Biggest joke - many of us had a side of coleslaw with our meal. It came in a small cup and was just raw cabbage - no seasoning, no sauce. When we told the waitress that they forgot to add the dressing, she told us that the truck didn't come in that day and they didn't have any mayo. What???? You would think they would have mentioned that in advance and offered a substitute - or, maybe make a short trip to the grocery store to buy the needed supplies. Ridiculous!!! Food is reasonably priced. Drinks are outrageous - $20 for a margarita.
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
I'm so sad to say all of this because I was beyond excited to try this place! It was the worst dining experience my husband and I have had in awhile. We made reservations and got a table right away. After that it all went quickly downhill. Our Server seemed to rush us into ordering, blamed the bar tender for our drinks taking so long and apparently forgot to put our order in. At one point she said she was going to go have a smoke and hopefully our food will be ready when she returns. The worst part of the experience was the food! I ordered the Iowa Pork Chop. It was slimy, chewy and I could only eat 2 bites. I was afraid to get food poisoning it tasted so awful. My husband ordered the ribs which came with coleslaw and Mac n cheese. Both sides were gross, the Mac n cheese was cold and tasted like it was made with bad milk. The ribs were edible but definitely warmed up in a microwave. I wish I was making this all up but unfortunately it happened. The only reason I can give 1 star is I didn't get sick, and the server gave us a piece of chocolate cake to make up for her mistake of forgetting to put our order in.

Penelope R.

Yelp
COUNCIL BLUFFS IA We had a table of 7. The entire experience was VERY disappointing! The turkey burger sounded amazing. Sadly, no. There was absolutely no flavors. All I tasted was shredded lettuce and cheese.. not the burger. The garlic wings were ok. They came with ranch that was awful, with no ranch taste at all. My grandaughter is a mac-n-cheese conisour, she ate the fries, did not eat her mac-n-cheese. I tried it.. again, no flavor, noodles over cooked. Honestly, it tasted like the rue broke because it had a gritty texture. Way overpriced $11.99 for an unedible kids meal. The waiter was terrible. He made excuses during the entire meal. Said "we" got slammed. Ha, 7 pm on a Wednesday. We were sitting by the entrance, 1 other table was sat after us. I give the Council Bluffs IA location a thumbs down Sorry Guy, you need to reassess the chefs in your kitchen. I was so looking forward to an epic meal

Brian B.

Yelp
Took 6 family members to try the new place at Harrah's. Whenever you see mostly empty tables at 7 pm on a Saturday I get concerned. After we ate what we could, I understand why every table was empty. Service was very slow, don't need much time to look at a 2 page menu. Out of 6, 5 said the food had no flavor, the other person said it was awesome, but he is still suffering from long covid and can't taste anything, so we had a good laugh. All agreed, the "Grill" that used to be there had much better food and at a fourth of the price. Maybe if we were inebriated that food might have tasted better, but we weren't. Can't imagine ever spending 300+ and not enjoying anything they served. Do I really have to give them even one star?

Linda K.

Yelp
What a great experience! we ordered the trash can nachos and they were amazing. The pickled onions was an unexpected delight. Irene, the waitress, was attentive and very pleasant. When you go know the food was plentiful and great.

Bryan H.

Yelp
Sunday July 30th, before Air Supply concert. Prompt seating at 6:30 ( had reservations), place was packed. Got fast service. We ordered Bourbon Brown Sugar BBQ wings, $15.99; and The Real Cheezy $16.99. Food was also delivered fast ! Tasted - oh so good. Obviously have worked out any glitches since opening. We will be back.

Scott K.

Yelp
Great food. No wait. Fast service. Clean restrooms and restaurant. Drinks a little pricy. Not a big menu to choose from. Waitress filled water glass several times without me asking 1 time.

caroline S.

Yelp
After seeing the stars/reviews we were a little hesitant on going here but the food was amazing. The Cajun Alfredo Pasta, Pan Roasted Salmon, and the PrimeTime American Kobe Burger melted in our mouths! The ambiance was great. We sat outside and it was a beautiful night. The waitress was so nice and continually checked in on us. Would definitely eat here again.
