"GREAT, fresh Mexican really close to NCSU"
Came here on a Friday night a little after 6pm. Was pleased to see they have multiple outdoor picnic tables with umbrellas, so easy to eat safely during the pandemic. It's an unassuming little restaurant, shaped a bit like a converted fast food joint. Also like a fast food joint, one stands in line to order, then they call your number to get food.
I ordered the torta sandwich with shrimp, as did my son. His friend ordered a steak torta, and my wife ordered a chicken tostada. Yes, we're weird that none of us actually ordered tacos. The shrimp tortas came in at around $15 each (before tax and tip), and the steak one was a bit less. We also got chips & salsa for an appetizer, and horchatas or jamaicas to drink.
We got our food in maybe 10 minutes-- it was a large and more complicated order, so a few people who ordered food got theirs before us. But we were FLOORED at the SIZE and QUALITY of the food. The sandwiches were gigantic. I'm appending a picture of HALF of my sandwich-- wow! And it was SO good-- the shrimp tasted fresh (certainly not canned), the avocado slices were divine, and the sandwich was perfectly toasted. It blew me away how good it was. Everyone was thrilled with both the quantity and quality of their food. The drinks were large and excellent too... amazing jamaica. Even the salsa that came with the chips & salsa appetizer came in a giant plastic tub, and the boys kept the leftover chips and salsa to take back to their dorm. We also appreciated the little salsa bar to allow you to sample different types (and well-labeled as mild/ medium/ hot as well as what's in them).
The place (including restroom) was also clean despite being pretty crowded-- testament to good upkeep. Service was friendly and helpful. When they saw us "lurking" waiting for the food, they did check in for us.
While not fast-food prices, it's WAY better than fast-food quality, and probably quantity too. Excellent value. I'd absolutely happily come back here again. (Thanks to my friend Gary who recommended it.)
