"Japanese barbecue grill Gyu-Kaku opened its first of many area locations in Clarendon last month, inviting diners to cook their own beef tongue, pork belly, and skirt steak around an open flame. The 130-seat sleek restaurant and bar, situated next to the Clarendon Metro stop, opened with a limited dinner menu, Japanese beers, and tropical cocktails. Along with vegetable-friendly fare like fried rice bibimbap and ramen, there’s layered green tea cakes from international confectioner Lady M and a full-blown lineup of grilled options and appetizers have slowly entered the mix this month. Prix-fixe packaged orders run $60 (for two) to $180 (for six)." - Tierney Plumb

First time at this place for me, but not for my wife, and it was super, super good. First, the decoration is pretty nice and chill. The meat was amazing. We had the meat lovers menu, and for the price, it's awesome. We were both stuffed like two big pigs. The two s'mores that come at the end are perfect and super fun. The staff are very nice, and the service is very good. We will definitely be back!!!

Google
We ordered the Meat Variety menu as we were a group of three, and we were pleased with the taste, quality, and portions of the food. The service and ambiance were also good, and we had an enjoyable dining experience at this Japanese BBQ restaurant.

A very good Japanese BBQ place in Clarendon, VA. The manager in the picture and our server were awesome. You pick from the menu, an option based on the number of people in your team. The fixed price per person is $40, plus tips. You get to cook your meats on a grill in front of you. The sake, also in a Pic below, was very good. They also have locations in the NY metro area. Give it a go!

It was the first time for us to go to Gyukaku in the US although we tried them in Japan several times. They have a different menu from the Japanese one and the dipping sauces on the table are also different but they keep the Japanese service level which we expected, so we were glad to come here to enjoy the Yakinuku BBQ. We were tempted to order the all you can eat in a hour because it looked like a good deal. However we are pros so we decided to order the cuts of meat that we like the most. All the cuts were great and marinated well. The cooking surfaces were cleaned and they even replaced it during our meal so that all the food can cook cleanly and properly which we appreciated. The matcha cake was also good and would pair well with a plum wine sake. Would recommend coming here to give the diy Yakinuku a try in DC.

Attentive, friendly service. Great quality food. The Manager - Teguh did a remarkable job, he handled and de-escalated a situation with the party next to us which allowed us to enjoy the rest of our dining experience.

The food is very quality ! All the servicer are nice. Love AYCE for meat good protein. Go there 2-3 times per month and never disappoint with the food. Don’t forget to save some space for dessert! S’more with vanilla ice cream are best combination!

Went there for my birthday last night and had a wonderful time! The set up is very comfortable and the overall atmosphere was very nice. The food was very tasty, all of the meat was well seasoned and marinated. The side dishes were great too, and whatever I didn’t finish I was able to take home. Will be returning!

If you love Japanese bbq, you will love this restaurant. I’ve visited a couple of times and I always walk away happy! Last time I tried the all you can eat for 90 minutes. Amazing experience! I absolutely love the fried rice here.

Yelp
Yoju, a yogurt shoju (white peach flavor) is super nice. It's alcoholic but with yogurt and fruit. Gyu-Kaku is still as good; came to dine in with friends; we got a nice booth (we did book on OpenTable but somehow they initially cannot find our booking). Note that they have a policy to only seat groups when everyone is there. We went for the three-people set menu; tons of meat and chicken. There were miso soup, nice salad, corn, calamari, beef rice rolls as appetizers (if you eat it all you'd be full before the BBQ action even began). Tonight's sunset with some magical clouds was gorgeous in Clarendon. See my photos.

Yelp
Fun experience at Gyu-Kaku. The miso glaze flank steak was probably the highlight of the night for me with the karage coming in a close second. I found the house salad to be a bit of filler and not on brand but otherwise the experience was enjoyable. The set menu was good but for an excellent deal I would probably come back for the all you can eat. Only giving 4 stars here because it was enjoyable but I find kbbq to be much tastier and enjoyable.

Lauren B.

Yelp
Great food! Down to 4 stars because we made a reservation for 8:15, and were seated around 8:30. If you walk in, there is likely to be a long wait so definitely recommend reserving. We ordered the house salad and takoyaki to start, rice, and the skirt steak. The takoyaki ended up coming out after the first three orders of skirt steak, but it was still super yummy. The batter is great, but definitely could use more squid. The skirt steak was amazing, we ended up ordering another two orders. The salad pairs nicely with the meat. You do have to pay for the rice. Our server was very kind but clearly busy so she wasn't able to swing by very often, so we had a bit of a wait. The restaurant was very cute and I liked that there were separators between you and the other customers. Would definitely come again!

Yelp
This is heaven for a gluten free person who loves BBQ-style meals!! This menu labels every item and every sauce which is gluten free :) also, there were plenty of options compared to other BBQ-style places I've been to. In addition to that, the location/ambiance is clean and cute. Our service was good - it was very busy when we went to so not super amazing service, but nothing was poor about it either (probably just average). The day after I ate here, I was already wanting to return lol. Love it!

Yelp
I enjoyed my experience here; however, it's still not my favorite spot. There's so many amazing newer Japanese BBQ spots that give you better cuts of the meat for the price. The service was really good. I came on a slower day for a late lunch on a Saturday around 4pm. The food came out fairly fast and everything came out at once except for dessert. We did the $90 Meat Lovers menu option. It's $90 for 2 persons. Weekends they do not have all you you can eat. I feel like you get a good amount of food. However, compared to other places very small pieces of meat cuts and they're not all quality pieces. We got a lot of fat on certain cuts that weren't even edible. There's also an a la carte menu with happy hour deals all week long. We got a few a La cart items which were pretty good. My favorites are below: Toro beef 9/10 Premium sirloin 8/10 Black pepper wings 10/10 Fried gyoza 8/10 Miso soup 9/10 S'mores 10/10 Other ratings: Chicken karaage 5/10 Gyu-sushi 5/10 (cooked roast beef on rice ) Umakara Ribeye 6/10 Yaki-Shabu Beef 6/10 Miso New York Steak 6/10

Bradley L.

Yelp
Great place for meat lovers. I've had both the group option as well as the all you can eat options here. Both were plenty of food. The meats are well marinated and taste great, and for the most part the side dishes and entrees are solid. Roasting s'mores is a super fun way to end the meal.

Yelp
I dined here earlier this month for dinner with friends for my belated birthday, and I had a fantastic experience all thanks to our server named Chris! Not to mention, this was our very first experience with Gyu-Kaku and Chris guided us every step of the way! He is knowledgable of the menu and gave great suggestions. I appreciate the birthday crepe dessert towards the end which was very thoughtful and sweet! The rest of the staff were friendly and welcoming :) Now, as for the food quality, the bbq meat were good for the most part, except for the pork belly and garlic butter baby scallop. The pork belly was too fatty for my liking. As for the garlic butter baby scallop was a bit salty and too buttery. I forgot to mention the spicy miso ramen was mediocre in my opinion. My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE dishes were the black and gold roll and the toro tartare!!! The aesthetics of the two dishes were a plus! :) The restaurant's ambiance gave the upscale bbq vibe, and the decor was well put together and clean. As far as parking, I would recommend you park in the garage to save the trouble of finding street parking. Overall, I recommend this establishment if you are craving a fancy Japanese bbq! The pricing is reasonable as well. Request for Chris, and he will help you with the portion depending on how big the party is!

Yelp
Decided on Gyu-Kaku to celebrate a friend's birthday and they did not disappoint! We had a large group (roughly 12-15 people) and the manager was super accommodating to explain the options & allowed us to choose which seating section we preferred for the most privacy. We decided based on the count to get a mix of the Yakiniku Party & Gyu-Kaku Feast. Service was amazing! As we were seated, they quickly pouring in starters to each table. The options felt endless and they even allows us to order more of what we liked as we tried everything. Only thing that wasn't a hit was the miso soup. Shortly after the BBQ items came out and it was nice to try an array of everything to truly find out what we all preferred. Staff was constantly checking on us, removing plates, refilling drinks and making the process so smooth. They even sing Happy Birthday which was a fun touch to the evening. To finish, they sent out the s'mores dessert which was a fun treat. Overall such a positive experience! To note, we visited on a Saturday at 7:30pm so be mindful you will have to put a deposit down for peak hours but it will be applied to your final bill. Would suggest this time for larger groups because it's perfect to not feel rushed prior to closing hours.

Yelp
After some searching online my family wanted to grabbed dinner here. We made our way over from. Made a reservation and stopped by with out party of 7. Everything was amazing, from the sides to the freshness of the meats. My personal favorite was the pork belly. There are so many options to choose from on their all you can eat menu. In terms of the sides, I highly recommend the spicy cucumbers. Off the menu, get yourself some seaweed salad, gyozas and egg rolls. You really can't go wrong with any of the meats. Service was fast and friendly. They were always checking back and bringing more orders if needed. They're also super attentive in terms of changing over the grill top. Street metered parking in the area. Definitely useful if you have the Park Mobile app already set up on your phone.

Maria B.

Yelp
Unfortunately the waiting time for a table was 1hour and 45 minutes and we couldn't find parking near by. I heard really great things about this restaurant but we decided to leave it for a future visit. Leaving this review because the host was incredible, welcoming and honest about the waiting time. Definitely we will return!!

Marivic L.

Yelp
This was mom's request for lunch on Mother's Day, so she got it. This place is way bigger than it looks. It's decorated well and has cute characters on the walls. The staff is very welcoming and informed us that the table was reserved for 1.5 hours. We opted for a meal combo for 4 which came with salad, edamame, fried chicken, noodles, and many different kinds of beef, along with pork, chicken, and seafood. Everything was great quality and tasty - and seemed endless. To be honest, we could have had 1-2 additional people with us and it would have fed them well. Of all the items, I didn't care for only one of the meat dishes. And to end the meal, you get to make your own s'mores. Random and fun. Pleasantly surprised by this place and would gladly bring a group of people here without hesitation. Everyone is bound to find a few items they enjoy.

Judy L.

Yelp
Always happy with the food here. Excellent service with fast and friendly servers. If you've been to one Gyu-Kaku, you've to them all. Only caveat here is the bathroom was disgusting!

Sandra B.

Yelp
I usually refrain from chain restaurants, but this one is special. My brother is keto, and wanted a lot of meat and veggies, so it was either Korean BBQ or Japanese BBQ. This place exceeded our expectations with the A5 wagyu (the short rib was better than the filet in my opinion). We also appreciated the attention to detail the server had... sending out the food in waves so we could time the cookery just right. She explained the cook time of each protein and veg, changed out the grill consistently after there was too much char build up, and kept our drink glasses continuously full. The ambiance was a tad bit noisy, esp for a Monday, plus we were slightly distracted from conversing bc we could easily hear the convo next to us (very minimal barrier), and needing to cook. Overall though, it's a solid choice to enjoy this type of meal.

Boyu L.

Yelp
Service is very good. The environment is super nice. But meat is very salty! Big alert on sodium intake! Though the marination makes the meat taste really good, and I even felt it was the best bbq in DMV region while eating. But I don't want to go again and spend my whole night drinking water without sleep.

Andy Y.

Yelp
Family friend was able to secure a reservation same day for a large party, but from the sound of it that is uncommon. The place was busy for a Saturday dinner. We ordered the meal for 4 along with other a la carte options. Every dish was delicious and fresh along with the meat options that came out to be grilled table-side. Service was fast and catering to all our requests. Make sure to sign up for their rewards program. Overall was a pricey meal but did unlock an option for 25% off the next visit. Will be back. Enjoy!

Isabel W.

Yelp
I always have high hopes for Japanese BBQ but this place was slightly underwhelming. You can order packages of meats so that you can try some appetizers, multiple meats and dessert but the dishes all came out so sporadicly. We didn't have enough time to snack on appetizers before all the meat was arriving. Also the meat does stick on the grill so it starts to rip apart and if you're paying for nice meat this is not what you want. Service was nice but the experience was just alright.

Brittani S.

Yelp
If you are a BBQ fan go here!! This place was so nice. We arrived without a reservation and they were busy but still found a way to get us in. Our server Luke was incredibly nice and helped us patiently choose items from the menu that were so tasty. By far his suggestions were the best items we had. You get 90 minutes to order all you can eat and the grilling was super easy. Luke came back frequently to take our next orders and alert us to the last call. If you can I absolutely recommend giving this place a shot. It is worth every penny! Also, they serve the most PERFECT ice cream ball ever!

Jenni L.

Yelp
Came here for lunch and was so satisfied with my meal! You definitely get a lot of bang for your buck - it was around $15.99 a person for 3 meats, rice, miso soup, and salad. The meats are delicious and flavorful - you don't even really need the dipping sauces! The vibe is cool and cozy - each table has its own grill that you can request to change out if needed. Def a street parking situation, but it wasn't too bad and there were plenty of open spots on a weekday during lunchtime.

Sammi C.

Yelp
I guess you can say i am a tough cookie to reach 5 stars. First time trying japanese bbq! GYU KAYU; i am amazed by how well seasoned or great the meat selection is that i needed little to no sauce for everything we ate. Today i went for a 5 pm dinner for 4 and we made reservations. Free street parking on Sundays so be prepared to drive around looking for quite a while since this is tucked in right in the center of the busy Clarendon crowd. The restaurant itself looks extremely small from the outside, but is surprisingly actually quite spacious inside! They will not seat you unless the whole party is there, the bar area is tiny and fits about 7 people at the bartops. They offer happy hour everyday from 1130a-830p at the bar only and dining until 5pm. Ayce is only monday-thursday. Once sat we got right into ordering, the options are great and tells you how much it is per package including individual split prices. Prices were actually pretty good for being in Arlington and well worth it! We got the yakiniku party and was super full with all the great choices. Even for 4 it was a ton of food. All the meats were fresh and succulent. The garlic noodles were so delicious, all the appetizers were great except the spicy tuna, tasted like canned cat food:( we also had to order the a5 wagyu which was soooooooo buttery and melts in your mouth. That was the most delicious thing we ate there. All of us were in heaven. The finishing touch was smores, too cute! I saw that they offered lady m's green tea mille crepe cake but could not fit anymore food in my belly. What an amazing dessert to carry. I love those so much. ALL IN ALL everything was , you need to try it! Will totally be back!

Vi R.

Yelp
The first time I had Gyu-Kaku was in NYC. Fell in love with it, found out there was one in Arlington so I had to try it out. I have since been to this Arlington location twice. Gyu-Kaku has a great business model. They have fresh food pre-seasoned and pre-cut brought to your table for you to cook. Best of all they have packages for families, different group sizes and/or couples. Honestly you will leave here eating way too much. I'm pescatarian so I ordered my own Miso Salmon with some vegetables and it is always so good! Part of the meal packages comes with a lot of appetizers, sides and all types of meats. I got to try some of the sides ordered by my family or friends I went with. All so delicious. Honestly I have never heard anything wrong with Gyu-Kaku. Delicious food with a cool experience. At the end you can order s'mores too which is really fun for kids. Service is fast! They were very attentive. The food kept coming and we were never fast enough to clear off plates. Just try it for yourself!

Allison N.

Yelp
It's a good option for Japanese barbecue but I would say they need to focus more on their timing because they seem to dump all of the stuff on your table at once and there is very little room for everything. That being said, I think the meats are very good and they have a nice rewards program. I would come back if I was in the area!

Lei D.

Yelp
Not the best Japanese BBQ I had, but the value and the service is there. The servers are pretty informative and helpful in getting my orders and discounts quickly. Although the tables are a bit sticky, the non-wagyu items are delicious save for them desserts, which the matcha cake is a bit too bitter, the boba pearl mochi taste a bit bland, and the taiyaki doesn't retain the red bean paste taste and mostly the fried crusty battered taste. The wagyu items doesn't taste as smooth as others I've had in other restaurants before. However, all other items are delicious! There's a points system in the restaurant that you can redeem for food and etc. Overall, 6.5/10 for the food and 9/10 for the service, rounding that to 4/5 stars!

Dara D.

Yelp
Excellent food, great selection, awesome service and all around great experience! Ambiance is also lovely, and everything looks very clean. I forget our servers name, but he was hilarious, knowledgeable and very attentive which was really appreciated. WARNING: regardless of whether it's a weekend or weekday, make a reservation or you could wait upwards of 40 mins to an hour!

Donna N.

Yelp
Solid Japanese BBQ. We got the premium all you can eat. You get 90 mins before last call. We enjoyed all the beef- the toro beef was delicious. Other items that stuck out for me were the garlic and spicy shrimp, and spicy cucumber. The service was good considering the restaurant was packed. I also enjoyed the lychee mojito! Would come back again!

Darrell L.

Yelp
First time at Japanese BBQ or Yakiniku which is similar to Korean BBQ. Gyu Kaku is in downtown Arlington/Clarendon but a little off the beaten path off of Wilson Blvd. As folks have mentioned parking is a bit difficult, however we scored a spot in a public parking lot 2-3 blocks away. Be prepared to spend some time looking for a spot unless you go straight to one of the parking garages in the area. Looks like they offer AYCE on the weekdays if you are really hungry and they have a few great family options for 2, 3, 4 or 6 peeps. We go with the option for 4 @ $170 as the beef options seem to be a bit of a higher quality and it seems like a ton of food. The best part of the JBBQ experience is the variety...we order and they bring our Miso soup immediately which is followed up shortly with 2 big bowls of salad with super fresh lettuce, veggies, eggs and a 'russian' like dressing. Both soup and salad are spot on. Next are a few appetizers- a beef 'sushi', a spicy tuna over some crispy rice, edamame, kimchi, and garlicky chicken noodles...so good...the spicy tuna and the beef sushi are the best of the bunch. If you aren't a big garlic fan or you're on a first date you may want to avoid the garlic noodles as they are super garlicky. Next come all the meats- not huge portions of each but when you add them all up...boy...it is a lot of food. The Filet is quite tender, the sirloin has good flavor and all are marinated nicely. Very impressed. So, overall, we are hooked...the meats are so flavorful and the different options provide such great variety. A few notes- -Rice is not included (white or fried) which is odd as rice is such a staple with a meaty feast like this -draft japanese beer (sapporo and kirin) is only $6 (and cheaper for HH) and comes in a super frosty glass which as we all know, just ups that refreshing beer taste. - The flame size on the grill seems to be on the low side...we asked a few times and it just seems to be set at medium low which increases the cooking times. Not sure if this is purposeful or not (i.e. increased cooking times makes peeps eat less in the 1.5 hours?) - smores for dessert is included and the kids love it - definitely not a cheap dinner at $50/person but worth the splurge every now and then All that said, you have a new fan of Yakiniku and we will definitely be back and try the other JBBQ options in The dmv!

Khanh-Chau M.

Yelp
Got the yakiniku course and don't regret! Was able to get an arrangement of meats and it was all super tasty. The pieces were marinated pretty well so you honestly don't need any of sauce, but I used the spicy sauce since I like things spicy. A LOT of sides they give out before the meat like noodles, edamame, salad so be wary before you get full before the meats come. The chickens and shrimp that came out in the end were okay, but the beef especially was so tasty and tender! It is a little expensive for how much meat each person get but it's certainly an experience. The drinks were super tasty too; I got the lychee one and could barely taste the alcohol. They have a grilling guide too which is nice. Also really liked the s'mores dessert as the finishing touch and they gave us extra for our party since it wasn't necessarily an exact four people.

Scott W.

Yelp
Our server was great, which helped with our visit. The biggest challenge is finding parking because of the location (Clarendon area). The restaurant is more focused on all-you-can eat bbq, which I'm sure is good based on the crowd, but my wife and I wanted a smaller meal. By moving to the bar we were able to take advantage of happy hour prices. There was adequate seating and the place was clean. We had the chili yuzu roast beef (delicious), garlic shoo cabbage ( great), gyoza (also great), and tuna poke nachos (I think my wife liked). It's a nice place but better for a younger crowd.

Macy D.

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't reviewed this spot yet because it is my all-time favorite! The staff is always very friendly. Definitely make a reservation if going during prime times. As someone who is gluten free, I'm so happy they label their menu with GF options and all sauces (including soy sauce) are GF. Pro tips: - Happy hour is every day until 5 p.m. - The Hawaiian Smash cocktail is great - A la Carte ordering works well for two people - BISTRO HANGER STEAK is one of the best protein options, always so so good (cook it a little less than you think) - Download the app for rewards and offers

Suwanit T.

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite restaurant in Arlington. The food is always fantastic and no matter what I order I am always delighted with my meal! Servers are also great and always efficient, happy and polite. Can't wait to return and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to eat around Arlington

Yelp
I wish Gyu Kaku had their AYCE every day and not just Mon-Thu. I've been to Gyu Kaku once before on a Saturday, didn't write a review though, I guess it wasn't something to write home about. But, recently came back on a Thursday night and tried their AYCE menu. We got the Premium ($52 per person). Yeah, still pricey, but we left happy. Favorites - Toro Beef, Kalbi Chuck Rib, Cold Tofu Least favorites - Angus Beef Rib (too chewy), umakara meats (too salty), miso soup (also waaaay too salty), cheese corn butter (or as I would refer to it, just "butter corn" because there was no cheese and all butter lol) We finished off with the green tea ice cream (which was actually a scoop not a mochi ice cream as it may look) and s'mores for the table. Service was good as we had a large party and servers were good about changing out our grills and taking our orders.

Rebecca H.

Yelp
I had a good dinner here. All the meats were good. I liked the filet mignon and the sirloin. I also like the non-grilled items I had. The tuna volcano roll was really good and the edamame was a good appetizer. The Sapporo went well with the meal. It was a busy and a bustling atmosphere when I went. I did have to wait a bit to be seated but the service was good.

Ahmad G.

Yelp
This place always deliver. My go to place for Japanese barbecue. Usually they are always busy so it is hard to reserve a last minute table. I have been here multiple times and every time the servers were very professional, the ambiance is nice and I like that the grill is installed in the table. This makes it easier to cook the meat and makes it less messy. Every item on the menu is tasty, and if you go for the first time, they would recommend their package. For the first time that package is good but it is a lot of meat and some of the cuts are not my favorite. So my recommendation is that remember your favorite cuts and get them, it is more enjoyable. I particularly like the dessert in this restaurant as well. Highly recommended! Will post pictures from my next visit :)

Emily H.

Yelp
Wowow love the Meat Lover's set menu (feeds 2 people)! Came hungry and left sooo full and happy. There were lots of variety in starters and meat! All the meat was juicy, tender, and quality. I definitely think you get your worth with this set. Gyu-Kaku Salad Miso Soup Edamame Japanese Fried Chicken Rice (We asked for the beef Bibimbap instead) Premium Sirloin Tare Sweet Soy Bistro Hangover Steak Miso Sweet & Smokey BBQ Flank New York Strip Steak Garlic Toro Beef Tare Sweet Soy Taki-Shabu Beef Miso The s'mores at the end was a great, final dessert to end dinner. Service and quick and friendly!

Yelp
I have been here numerous of times. Always have outstanding service except this time around I felt it was a little off. They sat my friend and I in a booth with a grill that apparently was missing it's cover, so the flame was extremely strong and overcooking our meat within seconds to the point of most part being burned. The server had actually made the comment to us that we are sat at a booth that's missing the cover so if needed he can just turn the flame down. My friend and I tried to turn the temperature down but it was either high or just starts turning off. We had tried to stay there and cook our meat, but it was just overcooking and burning the meat. When we bought that up to the server attention if we can change table (there was an empty table directly across from us), he seemed hesitate to move us and asked if we can just turn the flame down. We explained to him that we tried that, and so he went about trying to turn down the flame, I had to speak up to him and explain that there's no way we want to stay at this table with a missing cover for the grill because it is ruining our experience. Finally explaining that, they moved us but still made it seem like it was an inconvenience. The cost of dining here is definitely on the pricier side, I do not feel like it's right for them to seat and utilize a grill that they know needs to be fixed. Moving onto the food, I've enjoyed it every-time. Majority of the time I've come here, I've done the all you can eat. Which is only available Monday-Thursday. They have three different choices to choose from, which is the Premium for $52, Ultimate for $62, and Supreme for $72. You have 90 minutes for the all you can eat, and consist of a variety of salad, soup, beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, dessert, etc. Some common favorites I always order is the spicy cucumber, corn cheese, gyu-kaku salad, toro beef, chicken karaage, angus beef rib, pork belly, spicy cabbage salad etc. I love the different salad and veggies you can get, helps balance out the meats. The meat is high quality and very good cuts. I love that there are different sauces to dip (Sweet Soy, Ponzu, Spicy) the meats that are not marinated, super amazing! I always end the meal with one of their dessert, I've opted for their green tea ice cream this time around. They have a s'mores dessert here also, which is very cool being able to use the grill to toast the marshmallow.

Yelp
The food and service were really great! Tao Tao was an excellent server. She recommended great options for our first time there.

Yelp
Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ, located just minutes from the Clarendon metro station, is the perfect place to enjoy delicious food and company! The service is top-notch! Chanchai, our server, was so friendly and attentive. He made our dining experience extra special. His attention to detail and caring demeanor is unmatched from other restaurants in the area. Thank you Chanchai!

Yelp
I've had plenty of Korean BBQ before but never Japanese BBQ. I think the only major difference is they serve sushi here. We ordered a set dinner for two and split it among three people. It was just enough for our party of two girls, one guy if we ordered extra rice. The filler foods (non grillables) were quite yummy, especially the karaage but the grill meats were lacking in portion and flavor. The s'mores were a fun part of the meal. It cost a pretty penny so I wouldn't come here often but it's worth a try for the decent food and experience.

Yelp
4/5 stars. Our table was dirty when we sat down... but everything else was pretty good. Food was pretty good, I would recommend skipping the veggies- none of it was good. But the meats was good! Table top smores was fun too!

Yelp
I usually hate hot pot places because I suck at figuring out the prep and usually end up eating bland tough meat. This place changed my view and I will no longer have to be dragged to a hot pot if it's Gyu kaku. They use a flame grill instead of a steel sheet for superior cooking and flavor. The meats they serve is pre marinated and seasoned so all you have to do is cook it to your liking. When I say they use prime cuts, I mean it. The beef had great marbling and basically melted in your mouth, the steak was beefy yet slightly sweet, and the spicy pork belly was insane. On top of the good food the staff was attentive and kind taking good initiative in a variety of ways to reflect positive on the business. I wish I would've taken some pictures but the food was so good I did not think of it until I was done and stuffed. If you love hot pots this place is likely better than your last experience. If you hated hot pots like I did or are shaky about the idea then give this place a shot. You won't regret it.

Yelp
Easily the best place for KBBQ. I've eaten around the city and quite frankly, what's always missing is seasoned meat!!! Will always prefer to come here over anywhere else...even the tons in Annandale.

Yelp
Came back here for a friend's birthday during the week. Turns out they offer 3 tiers of all you can eat menus so we were pretty excited for that. The 6 of us had about a 2 hour time limit with a last call for orders 20 minutes before our time. We made a mistake ordering only one order per meat so on our next orders we asked for 3-4 servings of each one. It made things a lot easier but table room was hard to come by at some points. We mostly stuck to the beef and pork sections and it was mostly great but at some point we weren't sure of any of the meat names. Service was pretty on point considering how packed it was and the amount of orders we made. The price per person was pretty high compared to an AYCE Korean BBQ place though. Also parking could be tough to come by so park in a garage if you want to avoid a ha

Yelp
Best chain restaurant in my opinion. I've visited both this location & one in Manhattan with great experiences. They have built in table grills (like at Korean bbq places) at the indoor booths. You order meats etc to grill... but they also have a wide selection of other appetizers, ramen, entrees etcetera to order. Nice selection of beer, cold/hot sakes and cocktails. Good service and an overall fun atmosphere. It's quality food and priced accordingly (fair warning!). My most recent visit was in the "after times" so we opted to eat outside. The bartender took care of our patio party and gave us great service despite pulling double duty. We ordered a large variety of appetizers, grilled meats, ramen and desserts. Everyone loved their food, and we didn't feel at all rushed by the staff. There's also a pretty good Happy Hour menu. I'm sure they get busy during peak hours, so plan according to your patience level ;)

Yelp
This place kicks butt! I had a great meal here and will absolutely go back whenever I make it back to DC. The all you can eat is a great deal. The staff is quick and friendly always checking on you or clearing empty plates. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Food is amazing the feast is small for the price I recommend 2 if you got big eaters! Do wish they provided more sauces to amplify the flavors from the meats! Room for improvements based on the prices but great spot!

Yelp
Review for AYCE Option only: Good services with great quality of food. Ordered Almost every single items on the AYCE menu and 90% of them are very tasty! The only down side is that they only had two wait staffs plus a reception during weekday lunch hour (w/o counting list chen staffs), so it takes longer to get your foods. Recommend to order as many as possible every time, so you can make your money worse it during 90 mins limit. As the plus side, I like how their wait staff turned their head away, when you are entering tips in the POS machine. It actually tip more than normal Overall, good experience and will go back.

Yelp
My sister and I absolutely LOVE this place! I love the environment, everyone is always super friendly and helpful even if they aren't your server! The bar area is my favorite because the bartender is always super attentive. The meat cuts are PERFECT! We usually get the "All you can eat" Ultimate and it comes with so many different choices for the price. My personal favorite is the pork belly, spicy cabbage salad, and edamame. I always tell people about this restaurant so I'm always recommending it to anyone who would listen. 5 stars!

Yelp
The reason this is a two star review is because for $50 a person (plus more for two mocktails and some extra veggies), it just was not up to par. The flame in the grill wasn't working properly, so everything took much longer to cook. Disappointing. The meats were tasty, though, so at least there is that much. But they messed up one of the items--we asked for unseasoned shrimp but they gave the garlic seasoned shrimp. Overall service was...lackluster (maybe server was having a bad day?). So, at $40 a person this would be 3 stars. At $30 it would be four stars. But at $50 a person, I expect things to run smoothly, the order to be handled properly, etc. and that just was not done.
