Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ opens near Union Square | Eater Denver

"A new Japanese yakiniku (grilled barbecue) restaurant has opened in the Union Station neighborhood, occupying about 3,000 square feet at Union Denver alongside the new Whole Foods Market and marking the brand’s first location in downtown Denver. Part of a worldwide chain with hundreds of locations across the U.S. and roughly 700 restaurants globally, the restaurant offers a tabletop grilling experience where diners cook proteins over a grill at the center of every table. Signature items include Harami skirt steak in a miso marinade and certified Angus kalbi short ribs in a tare (sweet soy) marinade; the menu also features noodle bowls, rice dishes, vegetable options, pork dumplings, fried bacon chips, and Japanese fried chicken. Its name is pronounced GEW-KAH-KOO and means “horn of the bull” in Japanese. The restaurant is open nightly from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m." - Susan Stapleton

Friendly staff and some delicious food and drinks. There are so many options so we got the all you can eat option. I think you get 90 minutes and you can order multiple meats or items per person at a time. A great spot for lunch or dinner. I am not the best at cooking my own meats so I do prefer places that cook for you. However the staff here was great with making sure we knew what to do to properly cook our foods. Now for my standard comments. This location is clean and well kept. Indoor seating is comfortable.

I love this yakiniku spot. The food is quality and I’d recommend just getting the supreme all you can eat so you don’t have to worry about something you want not being included. Amazing spot for a date night or special occasion.

Place is awesome. Service is awesome. Definitely more of a premium style Korean bbq. Basically all meats are marinaded making it pretty heavy actually and getting full quicker. Not the cheapest all you can eat, starting at $54/person. But they also have a la carte available and I’m sure it’s not too steep. But my wife and I live for all you can eat so of course we’re going to go for that and unbutton our pants and then keep going. Been here a couple times and it’s great quality meat. You can get like spicy New York steak. The miso marinated ones are great too. I would suggest a reservation if you’re coming on a weekend. But we went on Monday and it’s quiet.

Let me tell you about Alex.... I set up a reservation for a party of 19 at Gyu Kaku, fulling expecting to need to manage the entire experience for a large group. Alex walked up to the table and IMMEDIATELY I knew we were in good hands. He quickly walked us through our options for all you can eat then outlined how he would get the dish service going for our tables. I knew we were in great hands! We waited a few minutes and everything came out in perfect order. Beer, apps, then ALL THE MEAT. Seriously, everytime we finished cooking our cuts of meat (super variety brought by alex from the recommended Ultimate selection) more and varied dishes were brought out. He handled out unique requests expertly while making sure we always had something available to cook. LOVE ALEX! As for the food itself, the marinade and variety of meats was the best I've seen. Every single item we tried was delicious on its own and was enhanced by the regular table seasonings (ponzu, sweet soy, and spicy). This was the best Japanese barbecue experience with the best variety I've ever had and the service was TOP notch. I will definitely be coming back next time I'm in Denver!

Gyu Kaku is such a fun and delicious experience! This was my first time trying Japanese bbq and I can’t wait to come back. Service was exceptional and really appreciated the staff being so friendly and nice about giving us a rundown on everything. We got a great deal with Denver Restaurant week to try the basics but would love to come back and try the all you can eat and/or other options. The shishito peppers, ponzu sauce, ribeye, and pork were our top picks!!

This has quickly become my favorite spot in Denver for quality at a crazy bargain. When you combine the app with the happy hour pricing it honestly feels dishonest how good the deals are. The food is so so good, the meats are marinated better than many high end restaurants I’ve been to. The drink prices are also some of the best in downtown Denver on happy hour pricing. When it comes to lunch especially the place is unbeatable for the amount of food you get for the price. Don’t sleep on this place and get in now if you love good deals, hearty meats, and cheap drinks.

We've been here before and it was so good that we had to come again. This time around was even better. Alex our server helped us navigate the menu, gave excellent recommendations on flavors and combinations as well as quick tips on the best way to cook our meat. He switched our grill before it got dirty. And was always swinging by with some of his favorites or other ideas we could try. Will definitely be coming back again and again.

This place has a great all you can eat menu! It's a little pricey but the staff here are very attentive and come in consistently for refills and ask to serve you more and more, which is great since there is a 90 minute time period in which you can order in. Can't go wrong with meat, sauce, rice, and cooking it to your own taste and perfection. My only criticism would be the fact that the last order is only allowed 20 minutes prior to the end of the 90 minutes, which doesn't make sense to have it end that early since I would've liked desert. Great place to take friends and family for an interactive and fun dinner!
