I’ve always wanted to try Gyu-Kaku because I’m a big fan of Japanese food, and I finally got the chance! From the moment we walked in, the server was super friendly and attentive. He took the time to walk us through the menu, which was really helpful since they have a lot of options.
I love that they offer an all-you-can-eat option, but since I wasn’t feeling too hungry, I went with the Meat Lover’s Course for two. It came with Gyu sushi, karaage chicken, salad, soup, six different meats for the BBQ, and s’mores for dessert. Overall, the food was delicious and satisfying.
If I had to point out a few downsides, it would mostly be about presentation and small details. The starters would’ve looked better if they were served all at once—it makes the table look fuller and more visually appealing (and perfect for pictures!). The karaage came in small, scattered pieces—I think it would be more enjoyable if they served bigger, juicier chunks. The salad needed more flavor too; I could barely taste the dressing. The Gyu sushi was tasty, but the plate it came on was too large for the portion, which made it look a bit empty. And for the edamame, the salt was only sprinkled in the center—so the flavor wasn’t evenly distributed. A quick toss or shake before serving would’ve made a big difference!
That said, I really enjoyed the meal. The meats were great, the server was fantastic, and it was a fun experience overall. With just a bit more attention to presentation and detail, this place could easily go from great to amazing. I’d definitely go back again, especially with friends!
