A girlfriend and I got out of a show and we were hungry. Since it was between lunch and dinner, I did a quick search and found Gyu-Kaku. We've both been to the one in SJ multiple times, so decided to check out the SF one. Plus, we remembered their HH being a pretty good deal. I easily made rezzies right before.
Idk if my memory is failing me, but I don't recall the portions at the other location being this small. And the HH pricing was much better. If you compare the HH to the regular pricing, it's all a dollar or less. And the kalbi was kinda sad. Our first order was nice. It was a thick piece. But when I asked for another one, it was much thinner. Overall, the meats were okay. But I think you'd get the same quality at an all you can eat (AYCE). And probably at the same price. I could have ate more, but HH was ending, so we refrained.
Service was fine. A little spotty at first. We had to wait a bit for someone to come over and take our order. After that, it was pretty normal. They checked in every once in a while and it was easy to flag someone down. They also kept our waters filled which was much appreciated.
Small portions, but there's variety if that's your thing. We saved $12 with HH on 13 dishes. I found myself wishing this meal was more filling, especially at over $50 each.
Note: I have no idea why we were charged a penny for what looks like some kind of app. It was a cent, so we decided not to make a fuss.
