Gyubee Japanese Grill (Montreal)

We had a great dinner at Gyubee (on St-Catherine St.). The food was great (beef + pork, side dishes, ice-cream + crème brûlée, everything was good). The service was excellent too. We were served mainly by Hannah. Hannah was very attentive and efficient. (If you drive there, recommend that you give yourself plenty of time to find parking. It is downtown St-Catherine street after all. 2 hours are given to eat, which is enough, if arrive on time to fully enjoy the meal)

Everything was absolutely delicious. Yes, literally everything! Gyubee Japanese Grill is easily my top choice for East Asian barbecue in North America right now. The service was just as impressive: efficient, attentive, and genuinely friendly. Special shout-out to Ayman, who made our experience even better with his speed and great attitude. We didn’t have to wait because we arrived before 5:00 PM, but shortly after we were seated, the wait time quickly grew to at least 30 minutes. I’d highly recommend either coming early or making a reservation in advance. Overall, I’d give this place a five-star rating for taste, price, and service. For food of this quality at this price point, the value is simply unbeatable.

The food was delicious, with great quality meat and very reasonable prices. I especially want to compliment a server named Hannah — she was very polite and attentive. she proactively changed our grill plates and checked if we need more food, unlike many busy all-you-can-eat restaurants where you have to call the server yourself. She truly works with heart, and it made our dining experience outstanding. We were very happy and will come back again!

Amazing experience every time, we come here atleast once a week 😊 food is fast, well-prepared and tastes amazing. All the staff are so great, friendly and welcoming, especially our server today Toby, and the manager. Looking forward to our next visit!

I was able to enjoy a wide variety of meats at a reasonable price, without any restrictions. The atmosphere was also very classy and clean. Since it’s all you can eat, you just scan the QR code with your phone and then you can order as much as you want and enjoy everything freely!

I eat here often and really enjoy it for the most part…. The price is agreeable, the good variety of choices and the food is pretty tasty… The restaurant itself is pretty nice, my one critique would be cleanliness, they could make a better effort to make the restaurant and bathrooms appear clean. It feels like a bathroom that goes unattended at a truck stop…

I really enjoyed my meal there. Alice my waitress was really serviable, kind and smiling. The food was amazing! Well seasoned and good quality. It was fun to cook your own meal en enjoy time with your friends/family. Worth the price.

Horrible experience. We went for dinner with friends — six grown men — all sharing one BBQ grill (great start already). We ordered multiple dishes, many of which never showed up. Service then just… stopped. Less than an hour in, after only three rounds of ordering, that was it. And even during those rounds, half the food we ordered never made it to the table. We even took the initiative to ask a server where our order was. They said they would look into it — and then never came back. A server finally came about an hour after our last order to ask what we would like for dessert, and that was it. The only memorable thing was a small portion of crème brûlée–style cake, which was actually amazing. Still, considering there were six of us and grilling takes time, this made absolutely no sense. We each paid a good amount of money, yet somehow still left hungry — so much so that we ended the night at McDonald’s. Not exactly the post-BBQ plan we had in mind.

Good food and fast service... Too busy most of the time, will need to wait for 1-2hrs to get a table.

The lunch menu is more affordable (with fewer choices) than the all-day menu. It's all you can eat for a fixed price, which I find more affordable than the other Gyu... Their menu is on a QR code. The wifi wasn't working so I had to read it on the waiter's tablet. As a vegetarian, I ordered the umami spinach, kimchi, lettuce, ssamjang, bibimbap without meat or eggs, zucchini, and mushrooms. Ordering bibimbap is tastier than plain rice. It has beans sprouts, seaweed and gochujang sauce. It's small in size but you can reorder. The all-day menu is almost double the cost. There are more vegetable options. But not worth the price if you're plant-based. I would only go for the lunch menu.

I can't remember if I had ever been to a Japanese Grill before so last night at @gyubeejapanesegrill was a great first experience. We went for my friend's birthday celebration and all eleven of us sat around a nice large bench style table. We were seated towards the back and it made us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant. I didn't notice any other patrons the entire night except for walking past them as we were being seated. The service was very fast and the waiter was extremely polite and patient while dealing with so many of us. He made sure to ask us if we had any questions, checked on our table regularly and while he wasn't the "overbearing/try too hard" waiter, he was efficient and laughed with us a couple of times. He must've been exhausted but you couldn't tell- he was great. Now, the food. For someone who typically doesn't eat Japanese food except for when my partner craves it, they may have convinced me to change this last night. For our large table there were two large grill inserts in the middle and they're large enough so that you never feel like you're fighting over getting your food. Simply throw everything on, share with those around you and enjoy! It is delicious. The pork is so juicy, the squid is full of flavour, every piece of beef I ate was extremely tender, the shrimp was seasoned well, and it was all so, so, tasty. I had zero complaints about the food all night, including the crème brûlée that they offer for dessert. Since we were such a large group and most of us were beyond full, they gave us a bit of the crème brûlée (a "bit" being tiny, white paper containers) and it made me want to eat an entire serving of it. It was so, SO, good but at the time, the size we got really hit the spot. We were already talking about going there again in the future as we were walking out. It was overall an amazing experience and it made for the perfect birthday night out for my best friend.

New all you can eat bbq place downtown! Went for lunch and was really impressed by the decor. It used to be a captain's bowl but that was a long time ago and they completely revamped it. Try to get a reservation if you can because it's still busy since it just opened. I went on a friday without reservation around 1:15pm but was told they only had free tables at 2pm. We ended up being seated at 1:40pm however so not a huge wait. They start by asking which menu you would like lunch or dinner. I don't know if this has any change in the price, I assume yes but didn't ask. We got the lunch menu and although the menu was smaller, everything was good. Tried all the meat options, the corn, edamame, kimchi, lettuce, garlic, mushroom, rice, and we ate to our hearts content. It was great! Great service, fast and attentive, food was great quality and very good. I loved the dessert soft serve! Definitely will come back!

Ate here today with family (2 kids - 3yo and 5yo- and husband) and friends (we were 10 in total) for Lunch but decided on the Dinner menu. Sat us after 40 minutes of waiting. The food was good, the usual Japanese grill of different meat. Came paying the bill, everyone opted separate bill. I paid for my family, me, husband and the 5yo who only ate a piece of fried chicken wing and edamame - none for the 3yo as she is exempted from the bill. I picked a tip reasonable enough. However, waiter sarcastically questioned me, "It this a mistake? The tip you gave?" I right away said, "No, it's not." I don't need to explain and give a reason why I gave such tip. I mean are service staffs in Canada like in the US now? Are we becoming a country where tip is already mandatory? And are staffs here that brazen to question how much tip customers are willing to give? I'm not going to this place again even though this is my go to when I crave Japanese grill. -signedbypregnantmom

This place is absolutely fantastic! Gyubee is an all you can eat Japanese restaurant that serves lunch and dinner. And what a great deal - we went on a Wednesday night at it was $40.99 per person . Their meat were very fresh and they have such a good assortment of flavours. Seafood selections was very impressive too with sake clams and miso salmon that is foiled up for you to grill! I had so many order of those I lost count! For desserts they have ice cream and creme brulee! Yesss!! Creme Brulee!!! It was soo good I made sure I had a second order of it even when was I was already filled to the brim! Absolutely loved it here and wished there was a location in Vancouver!

Great spot. Added my party to the wait list online from home, and sat earlier than predicted. It was a super busy Friday night but we were served promptly. The food was awesome. The quality of the cuts is top notch. Their menu is paired down compared to what other Japanese BBQ offers, which allows them to supply higher quality ingredients which is a worthy trade-off. Most of the meats offer a choice of sweet soy or miso marinade, I preferred the soy but both were delicious. The robot carts are used to bring plates to the tables, which can be a little clumsy at other places but these were super user friendly. We were still visited by our server and our table was regularly bussed. The cocktails we got were refreshing and balanced. There is a wide selection of flavourful drinks. My favourite included side dish was the bibimbap, it went great with the barbecued items. The mushroom mix which cooks on the grill was a nice addition as well. I'd go back here again for sure. It's a well run restaurant with great food. The decor is clean and elegant. It has busy atmosphere with large tables of people surrounding sizzling grills, split up by tall dividers allowing groups to have privacy. It's a very nice addition to the strip of restaurants along St. Catherine.

Japanese style BBQ where you grill, your own meat. This one is all you can eat. Quality of the food is fine and it has a wide variety of choices, but I feel the cleanliness is a bit low. Very crowed. Service is good.

As an all you can eat bbq it was outstanding and the service was excellent, the quality of the meat is amazing but it's nothing special, the side choices were lovely and tasteful but I would say needs more choices, they end with a free desert which I thought was very kind The robot was a little confusing as I was questioning if it was my food it was bringing to add the ambiance is what you would expect in a social environment such as a bbq.

Gyubee is unmatched in the city. The quality is amazing, fresh meat, amazing side options, lettuce is always crispy. The service is reliably incredible and efficient, and we love seeing the little robot tray carriers helping out. Have been back many times and it's always a great time!!

I highly recommend this Japanese Restaurant. Their Customer service is second to none. Fast and efficient!! The quality of their meat is consistently exceedingly my expectation every time!!! Must-try food/s: Boneless short rib Sweet sauce short rib Squid Pork belly thick I suggest to join the waitlist if you're planning to go there because the line goes up pretty fast.

Impossible to reserve + they never never answer their phone! Phone system doesn't allow you to leave message since the message box is always full. RIDICULOUS and REALLY FRUSTRATING!!!

Nice service, food and reservations. Have been here for 3-4 times already. The location is easy to access. Parking might be difficult during peak hours.

Fun and delicious lunch! Cook over hibachi grill and we loved the bimibap bowl. Great service nice and clean.

The place is good, clean, well organize and most of all the stuff is very friendly and accommodating specially LOUIS. Food is good but limited chooses for lunch Price is quit fair.

Went here to celebrate my birthday. Definitely use the online waitlist. Wasn't sure if we would make it since I was initially #25 on the wait list and said to arrive at 8:50. Received a call at 8:10 to tell me they have a table ready for me. We left the hotel and arrived at 8:30. Mind you it's an AYCE and last call was 9:45. You can order all the meats and sides in your initial order. You're not limited to 3 items like other ayce places. Some items come in a tin foil cup that require you to cook on the grill. This takes up valuable real estate on the grill. Best to cook those after you have your first round. Service was great. Free refills. The grills were changed frequently. Creme Brule and ice cream for dessert was the perfect ending. We will Def come back when in the area.

Been twice, it was solid both times. Once you get the hang of the grill and how to manage multiple food items on it at once, everything goes smooth and food tastes great. Personal huge fan of the bibimbap

Food and service are good. Prime Kalbi is the best - tender and juicy. Cold tofu and crème brûlée are also must haves. Service is friendly and fast. And dining areas are clean. But the waitlist system is terrible. Could be way better with a proper reservation system.

Love Japanese BBQ and love to grill my food to perfection. This place allows me to do so. Even it is abit $$$ but it a nice all you can eat place. Ice cream is good but limited to only 1 was too bad!

It was flavorful and the service was pretty quick. The interior gives a very modern/rustic vibe which felt different.
