Cult-Favorite East Coast Beer Yuengling Announces an August Debut in Texas | Eater Dallas

"A beloved Texas grocery chain is expanding its North Texas footprint with a new McKinney store at the corner of Custer Road and Eldorado Parkway. The location is the third new store announced for the region and is expected to open in Spring 2023, following two other planned stores in Plano and Frisco slated for fall 2022." - Brittanie Shey

I'm here in Texas for a few months only and boy oh boy am I going to miss this grocery store chain!!! They have great single, bake meals that are affordable. I'm not a cooking type person and by the time you're day is fine I also didn't feel like cooking but I can count on HEB meals for good nutritious food. Their fruit is great as well. Gonna shop here till my last day in the area.

We stopped in to try the BBQ. It was very good and filling. The beef brisket was fantastic. The St. Louis Style Ribs were a hearty portion. The macaroni and cheese was creamy and tasty as well. Plenty of drinking options are available. I recommend the H-E-B BBQ!

I drove over 30 minutes with the excitement of preparing a great BBQ at home. Upon arrival, I was impressed by the wide variety of meats and the impeccable organization of the store, which gave me a false sense of confidence. Without a second thought, I selected several cuts of beef and pork, imagining the perfect feast. But the disappointment was monumental: when I opened the pork packages at home, I was met with an unbearable smell and a deplorable appearance, worthy of a product forgotten for weeks. Unfortunately, I trusted the store’s presentation blindly and didn’t even check the expiration date. I know I could return the cuts and request a refund, but my time is valuable. I sincerely hope they improve their quality control, especially for meat and fresh products, so no other customer has to go through such an unpleasant experience.

I absolutely love this store. It’s always very clean and well-organized, which makes shopping enjoyable. The customer service is consistently friendly and helpful. They always have fresh food and a great selection of products. Plus, it’s conveniently located close to my home.

This has to be the best grocery store in America! I’m from California. I’m a disabled veteran who’s been all over these United States! Produce, meats and fresh bakery are my favorite departments. Tariff Who? They prices are actually better than Kroger, Walmart, Sam’s and Costco. The new one in Anna is bigger than …well maybe not, the one in McKinney. I’ll never shop no where is. I moved here 2 months ago. I got the bell peppers , sausage and shrimp from there. Best Stuffed New Orleans bell pepper I ever made. Fresh clean shrim. You have to go get EVERYTHING at H.E.B.

We love this H-E-B location. The people here are always so friendly, and it shows that they actually enjoy working there. I even chatted one of the employees she told me H-E-B is the the best places she's ever worked - you can tell by how happy every is on the job. The store itself is amazing. They carry so many different items, including fruits you don’t usually find in other grocery stores, and their meat selection is very good. My daughter always looks forward to the little store packaged lobsters you can cook at home, and their packaged macaroni is a family favorite. The butter tortillas are incredible - honestly some of the best you’ll find anywhere. My co-workers think my breakfast tacos are amazing, but my secret is using these tortillas. The French bread used to come out hot, large, and fresh, and while they’ve changed it and it’s not quite the same anymore.. We used to come a couple days a week just to get the hot bread, but they seemed to change something with it. It's not as good as it used to be so we stopped buying it. Their birthday cakes are great, the brisket in the BBQ restaurant inside is decent, my son likes the ribs. They have a decent selection of organic fruits. The artichokes are often impressively large and fresh. On some days the store hands out samples, which makes you almost feel like your at Costco. The store is always clean, the aisles move quickly whether you use self-checkout or a regular checkout lane, and even though it’s usually busy, it think it's still easy to find a good parking spot. Overall, this H-E-B is one of my family’s favorite places to shop. Lots of variety, quality items, friendly staff, and the little extras like samples, it feels fun and my kids actually want to come along - which is says a lot - for a grocery store.

I like HEB store. The main reason is there no condition on saving. Other stores requires additional purchase $25 or more, or only members, digital coupons only. This store you can use yellow coupon in store or digital. Very simple.

Google
VERY disappointed with HEB, i’m a frequent shopper at HEB and have been since 2023. I typically spend over $100 there since I buy ALL of my groceries there once every 2 weeks. I went to HEB May 15th at night and got just a few things including their HEB brand brisket jalapeño mac and cheese (about $7) from the refrigerated section next to the ready to make meals. The NEXT DAY I decided to have the mac and cheese for my lunch at work, not even an hour later i felt very ill, stomach pain, nausea, etc. so i decided to look at the container and realized it was 10 DAYS past its date, 10 DAYS! I called corporate to let them know the issue and make them aware that i wasn’t feeling well because of it, which who would be feeling good if they ate old dairy and brisket. the customer service rep Jordyn apologized and said i’d be sent a E-gift card when i asked how much the compensation would be i was in complete disbelief when she said 10 DOLLARS, who is that helping?! i almost spent $10 on the product that made me sick in the first place and throw up at work which got me sent home so I lost money, and also i was throwing up through the night and even now the next day i don’t feel good at all! HEB is giving out free groceries for a year at random but you’re telling me someone who got SICK because of your food gets a lousy $10 gift card and a scripted apology…. how sad! I went home and checked the rest of my groceries but it is very unfortunate that HEB doesn’t truly care about their customers. I would hate to take this any further than a review but we’ll see.

Yelp
I was headed up to McKinney on Custer Road and happened upon an HEB that I hadn't been to yet, so of course I had to stop in. I LOVE shopping at HEB! I was looking for one of the new Elf on the Shelf posable elves and I hit the jackpot! It is a boy elf and he was wire in his arms and legs so it's easier to pose. And it was on sale for $35 instead of $50! Note on my purchase: the posable Elf on a Shelf is slightly bigger than the original so putting on clothing items is a little bit of a struggle. This store had a huge parking lot and was easy to get in/out. The checkout line was super short so I was able to be in my way quickly. Cashier was very friendly. I would definitely shop here again if in the area.

Yelp
Don't buy into the HEB hype!! Look at the avg reviews in the area! 3 to 3.5 stars. Terrible! And we're Texans! This one in particular is merchandised SO poorly. Their stock outs - especially in high demand products like dairy area - are ridiculous! Get someone who knows how to order based on expected sales! This is not a "once in awhile" issue here. It's constant and systemic. Any day, any time, expect significant stock outs. (Oh, and for HEB...lost sales!)

Yelp
I love this store ! Pretty good prices, clean store and the plant section LAWD ! Carrie saw me looking at a snake plant on the top shelf, I'm 4'9. She politely walked up asked if I was okay and pulled each one down for me to decide which one I wanted . Top notch customer service

Joan R.

Yelp
I purchased groceries by sliding my credit card - my statement reflected TWO purchases for that day - when I contacted the store - the manager never returned my call... A letter explaining my situation was returned - unopened - to me - marked RETURN TO SENDER... I then contacted the CC company - the first amount showed the card was 'slid' in the machine - the second - disputed amount - was MANUALLY entered - I did not do this - who or how did that happen??? BEWARE USING A CREDIT CARD - my CC company will not dispute the charge - so yes I will pay the $45 and change... From now on I will be paying with cash...

Yelp
It's sad to write this review as this used to be our favorite store to buy groceries but after several disappointing encounters, it is no longer the HEB it used to be. I have placed several orders for pick up and my produce is picked by someone who obviously needs training. I have received cracked eggs more than one time, missing items, open bags of bread and the list goes on. The catering department lacks customer service and their deli department does too. Not sure what has happened but when the store opened, you had all lanes open, now you have a few and this has made your cashiers angry, I could understand why they feel that way but it's not the customer's fault. I still love the bakery department and that's the reason for the 3 stars, they are very kind and accommodating.

Yelp
The McKinney Eldorado location is the worst HEB of the dozen or so I've visited. In general, HEB is the best grocery store in any of the 5 states that I've lived in. But....The parking lot doesn't allow you to go to the order pickup area without going the wrong way down parking aisles. Horrible design. In addition, this location runs out of products consistently far more often than others. Seems to be a poorly organized and managed facility.

Yelp
The best grocery shopping in Dallas Texas!!! I highly recommend recommend this place.

Yelp
Every time I come to HEB the price on the receipt is different than on tags. But today made me mad so much. Today, October 6th 2024, at 11:11am Cashier Debbie D used my grocery trip to purchase a Hallmark Birthday card for herself. As well as charged 2 different types of cilantro, while I only got one. She started scanning my items, and as I approached the paying terminal, I saw that there is a card on the little counter. I said to her: "Someone forgot the card". She replied: "Oh! That's the lady she said she is gonna come back" and took the card and put it in the HEB bag (not mine). As I drive home and go through receipt, I see she charged it to my shopping trip, while lying to my face it is someone else's card. She put it to the front, Knowing I won't take it (since I wasn't planing to buy a birthday card) , since it is not mine! And would later grab it like someone left it. I am pissed!! As well as putting that I bought both cilantro bunches: organic and non organic, while I only bought one. Debbie D, you need training! But being the fact that you are scamming and lying to people, you should not work for a brand like HEB. Manager, please go through the camera and see what happened, this is not okay

Yelp
An unexpected friends birthday gave me the opportunity to make a quick pick up of a cake and check the pulse on this store. I was here after they opened and it appears by today's visit they're doing great. I received excellent service from a bakery associate while choosing a cake. I never have been a grocery store cake proponent. However,HEB has a great chocolate that does the trick. Easy in and out today

Yelp
SHOPPING IS A NIGHTMARE! Love the products but you are constantly dodging those huge carts used to collect pickup orders that keep cutting in front of you and not infrequently parked next to a stocking cart to block aisles. Some staff is nice but most cut right in front of you without apology. Why don't these stores train their employees in basic courtesy? Also the checkout packers put heavy objects on top of produce or put multiple heavy glass bottles in one flimsy plastic bag. Often have to redistribute purchases from one bag to another when placing in trunk.

Don L.

Yelp
This review is regarding layout/building of the store itself. The first entrance is so close to the street that when customers come out of the store the oncoming traffic has to stop. This created a line of vehicles trying to turn left into the parking lot and the line backs onto the street. In my opinion this is a very poor design and a safety issue.

Yelp
We love HEB! Any location and any store!! We visit a store once a week because they have the best stuff! Great selection of ready meals which makes life easier!

Yelp
This H-E-B has a sit down restaurant. I've never seen a sitdown restaurant in H-E-B. This H-E-B is very large, very nice and has the normal H-E-B stuff. Would love to come back here and try the restaurant which I'm sure is their H-E-B barbecue, which smelled great, along with possibly a deli. All in all the people in this community have a great H-E-B.

Yelp
I love HEB. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. I enjoy buying the more affordable but are highly competitive alternative HEB brands.
google avatar

Yelp
Still my fav! And they have the olive bar still! The one in frisco is usually pre-packed and you can't make your own these days. Best antipasto bar ever!

Yelp
H-E-B is a glamorous shopping experience. Products are organic, and some you can't find in other grocery stores. The climate inside is on the warmer side. I miss the hometown customer service friendly feel of shopping for food.

Barbara P.

Yelp
I had the pull pork at the restaurant ,very flavorful. Also I took home the crab, potatoes, shrimp which was delicious, corn was sweet & 2 sausage links ,everything was great

Adrian S.

Yelp
Racist Manager Sharon snatches wallet out my hand to ID me no customer service and literally tells me it's not real I have been to this store over a hundred times to purchase alcohol, was ID and had no issue. She literally racially profiled me & the cashier was even more incompetent, if you see Sharon in the store just know she racist as hell and lacks customer service. Gotta love Texas.

Yelp
It's better than Kroger or Tom Thumb. I'm glad HEB finally made it to Dallas. There are definitely some issues though. Need to open the 25 or fewer, self scan line on the mornings. There's no good reason for it to be closed. If you tell the bag boy you'll bag your own groceries, they need to take the hint and go away rather than stand there and look lost while staring at you. I tell them that because they bag the groceries liked coked up squirrels and destroy anything remotely fragile. The employees gathering groceries for online orders are constantly blocking aisles, jumping in front of actual customers, and generally acting with a total disregard for customers. I guess I've reached that age where I just don't understand younger employees. They show zero common sense or regard for their customers. If the employees would step up their game, this would be a great store. That's a sign of poor leadership, so I guess if the managers would step up their game, this would be a great store. My only product complaint is the low quality produce. I don't buy any produce here. I make a second grocery store trip to wholefoods for that.

Yelp
10/05/23- Thursday (late post) It was my first time at HEB. Store is very organized and clean. The chicken wings were freshly cooked :-)

Yelp
I just love HEB. You should get the buttered flour tortillas made in house. I no longer live in Texas but i always stock up while there. I am an earl grey tea drinker and love the HEB brand teas. So good!!

Lily J.

Yelp
I worked there for over a year i was hoping to stay there much longer than that but wasnt getting enough hrs. last day I worked did not even get paid for talk to the "admin people but they weren't much help it felt like they avoiding me . BAD EXPERIENCE

Amanda M.

Yelp
Love this place. Eager for one in Grayson County! Growing up with HEB was great and willing to drive to all of them in North Texas.

This is the best store in McKinney. The coffee slection is super big and vast. the staff is nice.

Yelp
I really want to like H‑E‑B and there are some positive things about this store that I like. For Example, There is a huge selection of a wide variety of meats that most of the other stores don't carry. Also, the H‑E‑B branded products are generally very good quality. This is where H‑E‑B misses. The shopping experience is horrible. There is seldom parking close to the doors so you need to walk a mile just to get inside. Once your inside, the store is crowded with no just shoppers but employees as well. The aisles are narrow and when a personal shopper comes through with the huge carts to pull online orders, the aisle jams up. Everything slows down and your constantly trying to navigate around people. Finally, you have to either scan or pull the coupons if you want the discounts. It's a pain to manage either the paper coupons or logging into the App when the signal in the store is poor. They should just give the discounts to H‑E‑B card members of the discount is applicable. I will come here now and then for things when it's convenient but I'm going to avoid this congested place if I can afford to. One last thing, why no tap to pay? You just built a new huge grocery store and your payment terminals are out of date? Wierd

Burnell S.

Yelp
Do NOT try the BBQ. Ordered a pound of brisket and a side of cheese dip. The Brisket was half fat and we couldn't even eat it and the cheese dip was half filled. Next time we'll go to a real BBQ joint and NOT a grocery store.

Jacqueline T.

Yelp
I went HEB a few months back, took more than 20 minutes to check out when there was no line. I give another try today again, the system was down, took me 30 minutes not able to check out. Too upset that I have to leave without having my groceries. Wasting more than hours not able to have food purchasesed. Totally wasting my time to shop around... Very upset experience again. Will not go there if I don't have to.
google avatar

Tracy N.

Yelp
You must Buy the Texas Wagyu Tenderloin OMG Soooooo YUMMY!!!! I love all H‑E‑B products made in TEXAS and the Quality top notch.
google avatar

Ruth G.

Yelp
Absolutely love HEB groceries as they have some of the freshest produce out there. During lunch times 12-2/3 they have carts of people out offering various samples of different products and I enjoyed just casually shopping and trying new products. Nothing that I tried was bad it was all so YUMMY. Not to mention the uniqueness in their products I love their pita chips, butter tortillas, cakes, tortilla chips, and their spicy queso! My favorite wine is their seasonal Prima Manzo wines!

Barbara-Jan F.

Yelp
Excellent customer service The store is well organized, well stocked, and very clean.

Dede L.

Yelp
Disappointed. I really loved HEB produce, but they seem to have fallen off. Pre cut and packaged mushy watermelon is disgusting. I drive for while just to go here and now it doesn't seem worth it. Recently, I was out of town and went to Publix, and I loved it. Do better HEB.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Many of There combo deals and digital deals do not work and they know it. I asked a manager and she said that I'd just have to go to customer service every time because only corporate can fix it. I asked her why they don't remove the signs when they know the deal isn't ringing up and she said that's not how it works. We were pretty excited when they came to our area but my bill was wrong all 3 times I live been there. They are scammers and they know that they have so many people who love them and wait in long lines for the "privilege" to shop at HEB so they don't care. Good news: Kroger now has food and no lines. So all the sheep please keep waiting in long lines to pay more than you think.

Yelp
The store over-hired high school students and graduates, when store opened. Then they started firing /reducing hours. Now since HEB is understaffed part-time employees are stressed over-working making mistakes leading for clients leaving bad reviews? HEB did not provide proper training in the begining. Here is list of steps HEB took for new hires. 1. Sat down new staff and watch video for 4- 5 hours - products. ( not knowing if staff was understanding ) Limited guidance provided. NOTE : this training was provided 2 months after they hired the employee 2. 1-2 hours max training provided by other employee ( no trainers or managers) Training was about job itself 3. Training was inconsistent. 4. New hires were thrown in the field and were expected good performance. If not , staff was less likely to get good hours or days ? Whose fault is it? When the sales dropped per day , they started finding excuses in cutting down hours and firing? Did you not remember your days when you started your careers? Were you also treated this way What a shame. You are a part of central market ? Or otherwise Fix this HR issue. Recognize hard working people and train them. These kids work 7-8 hours a week when you needed them Very sad

Yelp
I love this store with every fiber of my being. The employees are great and act like they love their jobs! Thats non-existent nowadays!

Yelp
Second time coming and the customer service was anything but friendly to the point the two managers had to ask the cashiers on outside if anyone would be interested in helping us out. First manager asked and just walked away and left us hanging. Second manager made the people check us out. He was the manager who sent us to them in the first place. They were not friendly in the salad section two workers were snapping at each other while we all just listened. Then we get to the dreaded car wash that does not work and you only find out you must paid at the gas station after you have been waiting on people in front and you are stuck with cars behind you. Also it says pay at kiosk only once you are next line and that is confusing since it should say pay at gas station there is no kiosk at the gas station. I complained to The gas station after waiting that I should have known before I am waiting in line and they could care less. Sad part is H‑E‑B was my first job so I am super familiar with it. Yes there were some nice workers but this was just ridiculous. First we were there on opening day our only complaint was the amount of workers or upper management who were just standing around and would not move out of the way. We literally could not go down certain aisles because there were large groups everywhere and no they never greeted us or at the very Very least go out of our way so we could shop. My husband was super put off by the amount of manager people and their arrogance to not only ignore us but not move. I have loved H‑E‑B ever since I worked there and I was treated great at the one of 19th street in Waco but this was not a good reflection of the McKinney, these first two experiences.

Yelp
Giving the McKinney store one star because of the constant issue in the seafood department. You sell shrimp that is always frozen, hard as a rock. What if I want to go home and make it fresh and not wait an hour for it to thaw? An no, I'm not going to defrost shrimp in the microwave as the employee suggested. Also, the frozen shrimp with chunks of ice weigh more than the thawed. I have been going from McKinney to the Frisco location because the employees in the seafood department are much friendlier. Excited for Allen to open and hoping they will be as great as Frisco.

Jill M.

Yelp
We ordered two arrangements from Blooms. I had ordered them incorrectly and was in a real pinch. Rose and her coworker willingly jumped in and quickly created exactly what was needed. Really appreciate them both and enjoyed their demeanors. Thank you!!!!

Pamela H.

Yelp
Nice store horrible bakery manager sloppy looking MGR. And highly unprofessional. To sit there and speak Spanish with another partner, while a non speaking Spanish was trying to get their attention to help wait on customers, so partner could go wash up after taking out the trash. One Spanish speaking partner turned around and cussed out the partner that just took out the trash. To top it off... The sloppy manager stood up for her. Just disgusting and I couldn't take it any longer. I used to be a Manager for HEB a long time ago, and I'm sorry, this just doesn't happen in front of customers. My heart was broken and I loved my job. I wanted to stay and semiretire there. BUT I'm to old for that sort of crap.

Yelp
The BBQ is legit. We've been there several times. Brisket, turkey sandwich, banana pudding, it's all good and priced oh so right. Staff has always been friendly and helpful.

Yelp
My wife is from San Antonio. We lived at her house for two years after we married then moved to my place at Blue Ridge in the Mckinney area. We really missed HEB. The big name grocers in McKinney cut services and stocking to the point that it is real pain to shop there. HEB is what Wally World was 20 years ago. They have enough checkers to handle you with no wait. They keep thier shelves stocked. Their store brands are top quality. We shopped at the Frisco store until the Mckinney store opened. It is much closer to Blue Ridge. Can't wait til they open the Melissa store. As I said they provide service. In over 30 visits, I've never seen over 3 people in line at a register. They often have 13 registers open. Compare that to WallyWorld that often only has scanners open. HEB always has stockers keeping the shelves full. You can depend on finding items on the shelves. The in store coupons are nice. Much better than those damn Kroger loyalty cards. I love the store brands: 1. HEB grapefruit juice. Best tasting. Price about on par with other premium brands. 2. HEB Wagu ground beef. Delicious. Good price. Best tasting ground beef. 3. Pasture raised eggs. Hard to find in other stores. They have 3 varieties ranging from under $5 to around $7. Delicious. Much better tasting than plain eggs. 4. Packaged catfish fillets. Good catfish is not common. Their packaged fillets are just the right size for 2 people and have the muddy tasting fat trimmed off. Again, best tasting. 5. Heavy whipping cream. Their heavy whipping cream has the best flavor of any we've found. Unlike other stores they keep it in stock. They also stock high quality brands for other items. 1. Cherry wood Bacon. On the top shelf center. Nice lean bacon. Great taste. 2. Tilamook Cheese. We love the sharp cheddar. Wish they carried the 1 pound bricks. Some items are sort of "Meh" 1. English Muffins. HEB store brand too big, too yeasty. We get those at Winco who has decent sized Sourdough store brand at lower price and better taste. 2. Bulk food. Quality ok. Prices 50% higher than Winco. Not much variety, Things that could make HEB better: 1. Parking lot shuttle. Parking lot is always full. It is a long hike from the car to the store and back. Especially on 100 plus degree days in summer or rainy windy days in winter. A little tram that cycled around the lot would make the visit easier and ease the parking problem. Would also make it easier to find a usable parking space. 2. Product finder stations. A computer based product finding station would make finding items easier and save bothering staff. Today I asked for directions from a stocker. He said: "Sorry, I don't work here. You'll have to ask a store person". (Shades of Wally World). 3. An automotive area. One of the few features of WallyWorld is being able to get an oil change and grocery shop at the same time. We are happy that HEB followed us from San Antonio. Shopping there has been a pleasant experience for over 15 years. Glad to see the Mckinney store is keeping up the Herbert E Butts tradition. We buy over 90% of our groceries there. They have good people and enough of them to provide first class service. There is a new Sheriff in town. There will be big changes for the better in Dallas area grocery shopping.

Doreen P.

Yelp
Excellent, so glad they opened. Always a lot of checkers. My go to place now. They have a huge meat section and they have everything you want.

Yelp
This is the first HEB a really got to check out over several visits and they meet the expectation. Their customer service is very good and they offer a variety of food options. I feel like the aisles are a little bit narrow and some of the signage they use seems a bit "80's Winn Dixie" but it's great store. They are the only grocery store that meets the reputation and competes with Trader Joe's and Market Street which is my favorite grocery stores in the area

Mia M. M.

Yelp
We live in a small town with lack of a top notch grocery store. It is nothing for us to drive for the quality of food we like and cook with. Glad a new HEB will be even closer to Denison.

Yelp
I like their selection and prices. But they need a staffing overhaul for cashiers because right now, they employ some of the rudest people I have ever crossed paths with. One of them wanted to run her mouth to me in self checkout and she quickly found out that I am not the one you wanna do that to. I always have a problem with something at every visit here. Either the staff is rude, or a coupon won't scan and give you your discount, or an item rings up wayyyy wrong, or the date on your item has already expired. I've had that happen twice now at this location on deli/ready made meals. But to be honest, the prices are really good compared to Kroger so I keep going back. but for the love of God, do not go to this place on a Saturday or Sunday before 8pm!!!! It is like being pushed and shoved at Walmart on Black Friday to get a $5 toaster. You'll need anxiety medicine if you try to shop here on a weekend.

Yelp
The personal shopper thing is obviously bigger than expected. They do clog the aisles and believe they come first. Guess they have to get the orders ready before the folks come to the pick up area.Lazy people here. The HUGE problem is the DELI department. This has happened the last three times I went to purchase cold cuts. Usually three or so people working there, or not. Two of them making orders for the take out crew. The one person who obviously just got hired, is slower than, well you know what I mean. 15-20 minutes to order cold cuts at over $13.00 per pound. Usually I go to Market Street for Deli goods. Several employees well seasoned in how to cut cold cuts and move in a decent pace.
