Warning About Mislabeling at H Mart – Not What I Paid For
Stopped by H Mart yesterday — a reputable Korean grocery store I visit from time to time. I normally don’t buy meat here, but decided to pick up some filet mignon for a nice dinner with my wife.
The meat looked a bit different than what I’m used to, but I figured it might be a Korean cut or style. The package was clearly labeled filet mignon, and I paid the premium price expecting a tender, quality steak.
Well — I cooked it today, and as the photos show, this was not filet mignon. Sorry if the pictures are a bit much, but the texture was incredibly tough, and most of it was inedible. We couldn’t chew through it.
The packaging clearly said filet mignon, but what we got was something else entirely. Whether it was an honest mistake or not, I want to caution others: check your labels carefully, and don’t assume what’s on the package is what’s inside.
Lesson learned. I won’t be buying meat here again.
