Food ain’t worth the overbearing security. At first I figured if you have so much security then maybe that’s because the food is so good the people are stealing it. It’s not good. It’s okay, probably won’t finish my $20 meal of a tea, corn dogs and a chicken sandwich. I wonder why they have the security then…

Really compressive selection of Asian and non Asian groceries. The hot food selection is great and the sushi is well stocked. Drink aisle is great too. You can find most common items here.

The food here is not worth the trouble of experiencing racial profiling and being regarded as a criminal while shopping. I stopped by this afternoon to grab some mochi. As soon as I approached the prepared foods area, I see that a security guard has locked in on me with a laser focus. I tried to pay him no mind and continued with my shopping. He walked past me and I did not look to see where he went. After I got the mochi, I spent some time looking at the hot food and reading the labels. I finally made my selections and started walking towards the cashier. This is when I see that the security guard is at the end of the aisle and had been watching me like a hawk the entire time. When he realized I was walking towards him, he quickly looked away and pretended to be watching the security camera display. I’m done with HMart.

I’ve been an avid shopper of hmart at diff locations throughout the city. But the last few times I’ve picked up any cooked foods or lunch items from this location, they have tasted off….they very much seem stale and repackaged….i couldn’t down the fried chicken….it tasted weird. The location in morning side heights has much fresher cooked foods. Also, yes the security guard is a bit intimidating!

I am absolutely disgusted by this H mart, so I have visited here and there but the times I had visited I noticed the security guards racially profile me any time I enter they follow me everywhere I go so recently I had addressed this matter with the manager & not only was he nasty but just as well useless, when I addressed my discomfort to him he instead of looking at the camera for proof that we where discriminated that joke of a manager had the security speak with us already making me and my sibling more uncomfortable than what we already where, the security was just lying to us meanwhile when we entered he followed us everywhere we went & when we stayed at a corner he just stared at us the only two Latinas in the store, he caught an attitude just because we shared our discomfort, & as women its already degrading having someone follow us around as we have to worry for our safety every time we step outside so H mart do better please. You allow your managers to get walked on by their nasty discriminative employees, What a joke you have running here, if you are of color don't go their please you'd be just waisting your time and money

This place is a phenomenal grocery store! 🏪 H Mart on the UWS 🗽 offers an endless selection of Korean 🇰🇷 and Asian grocery items - the shelves are packed with dumplings 🥟, noodles 🍜, fruits 🍑, vegetables 🍅, canned goods 🥫, frozen 🧊 items, sweet 🧁 delights, ice cream 🍨, and so much more! It's so fun 😊 and explore 🔍 all aisles! Staff is welcoming and friendly and the store is clean! 🫧 Will definitely come back. I wish I came here more often!

The food is fair to okay. Expensive for what they offer. The security is overbearing which makes shopping at this store exceedingly unpleasant. The security people follow you and assume you have shop lifted at every turn. I will never shop at this store again and have dissuaded all of my friends from going here. If you are so afraid of bekngshoptifted then get out of the business. This is a neighborhood of descent people and we don’t need to be harassed like common criminals. Good riddance!

Situated close to the 72nd st 123 subway line and close to Lincoln square makes this an excellent place to shop for your family or go out with friends to grab a meal and then to to the square and eat lunch. They serve all kinds of food from ready to eat hot meals, frozen food, drinks, and room temperature meals. There are 4 checkout lines so despite being a medium-small ish store making checkout a breeze. I've been there about 25+ times various hours of the day and never had a waiting line to leave.

I found the staff very helpful and the selections good. I found the bitter melon tea I was looking for as well as kimchi without sugar in it. The store is clean and spacious. Wheelchair accessible.

This H-Mart is extremely racist in my opinion. I would avoid giving them money unless you're okay with that. This review is my story, but there are other reviews detailing similar experiences, so this is not a one off thing. I came to this store with my friend. We wanted to pick out lunch and some snacks. From the moment we came in it felt like the security guard was hovering around us the entire time, everywhere we went. It was very unwelcoming but I decided to brush it off initially. After picking up snacks, I split up with my friend so I could pick out one of the meals on the hot-shelfs. Once I was alone, the security guard who had been following me for some time now came up to me and said: "I think I saw you put something in your pocket, did you bring that in or is that from the store..." I was shocked. I had not put anything in my pockets the entire time I was there, so he was full of shit and basically making something up a reason to accuse me of theft. Stalking me around the store was annoying but I could tolerate it. Accusing me of theft without any basis was another. I began to press him "what did you see me take" "what are you talking about" he refused to respond. At this point I knew he was full of it. I got upset and decided to get the manager involved. The manager's response was extremely disappointing to say the least. He had the security guard tell his version of the story. The security guard lied and said he asked me about an item in my friend's cart he wasn't sure came from the store. Firstly that was a lie, but it also made no sense logically: a) Why wouldn't he ask my friend about the item b) The item was a large bag of popcorn that could not have been inconspicuously brought it c)If he knew about the popcorn then he must have seen my friend put it in the cart meaning he knew it was from the store. Because after my friend put it in the cart we temporarily split up. I called out the security guard for lying and the manager seemed not to care. At one point the manager said it was my fault I got accused of stealing because I was walking around the store without a shopping basket (???). Of course many other people were doing this so it made no sense. At this point I suspected the manager was in on it, so I decided to give up on getting any justice and leave. Very disappointing customer service by H-mart. On my way out, another security guard came up to me and said the first security guard was not racist and that black people came to the store all the time. This was hilarious because I actually never accused the first security guard of being racist, I only said I was pissed that he made up a story to accuse me of stealing. It felt like the second security was telling on himself while trying to defend the first one. In the end I bought my food cause I was hungry but boy did I regret it. I couldn't even enjoy my meal afterwards from thinking about the ordeal. I will never shop at this H-mart ever again, and really this has soured my views on H-mart as a whole now. As I said in the beginning I would not give these people your money. I have attached a photo of the troubling employee in question. -- This is a side note but apparently employee(s) in the store make unwanted advances on women shopping here based on another review. Seriously, does H-Mart not care at all about hiring employees with integrity???

I love this H Mart because I can do a quick 2 stop grocery run with Trader Joe's just a block away. I come here for my Asian produce, and I appreciate that it's never too crowded, clean, and well maintained. I also love that they always stock BBQ's spicy wings, which the 110th Street location never seems to have. The only downside is that H Mart has stopped carrying many Korean brands I always look for. For example, the selection of red pepper powder, a staple in Korean cooking, is very limited. I wish they would offer both Korean brands and US made alternatives for all items, giving customers more choices.

Expensive just like everything else in the city lol I was trying to find the canned tuna to compare prices back home and these are like 2x the price. If I lived in the city I'd still shop here though for Asian goodies because it has mostly everything you could need for making Asian dishes. Rather diverse and spacious for a city store. If you go in the evenings the hot food is like 30-50% off!!!!

H mart, an Asian grocery store. Located on 70 Street and Amsterdam Avenue the food is great. It has like all the things. But the people work there their attitude is bad. The cashier. I only give a three.

Delighted to have H Mart in the area! As other reviewers have said, they have great products including Ice cups and drinks which is so nice in the hot weather. My favorite items include the bulgogi onigiri. HBAF almonds, rice crackers and today I tried the BBQ boneless chicken which was very fresh and crispy. Great place to stop for snacks and drinks. I did buy some produce but found it to be expensive. They did have reasonably priced eggs and if you shop the manager's specials which rotate frequently you will do well.

Visited this H Mart for some groceries and some Asian snacks. Unfortunately, the produce selection is not huge, not compared to Whole Foods for example, and is quite pricey. They also have very limited organic products. I wouldn't recommend going to produce. This H Mart does have a decent selection of Asian snacks, but the prices are higher than the Asian grocery delivery service Weee!, which has mostly similar products. Overall, I won't be going to H Mart for my regular groceries and produce, but if I'm needing tofu or ramen in a pinch, this is the spot.

Excited for this to open in the upper west side. K town was the closest one which was always a trek. I went on the grand opening and it was BUMPING with people. It's extremely clean and loaded with goods . It's nit a cheap market, but has high quality meats and so many good snacks.

Rice bowl was good they had many options to add in and the tteokbokki was great too. Lot of choices for onigiri and other hot foods as well that I need to try.

Creepy security guards that try to flirt with you while you shop. 110th location is way better because you don't have to deal with that.

Thumbs up for bento box grab and go during lunch, skip the grocery as it is overpriced and not worth it. Love the options from onigiris, kbbq fried chicken, bento boxes, soup, sushi, etc. the varieties are great. They also have a great snack and ice cream selection. My favorite thus far are fried chicken and bento boxes - especially spicy bulgogi. They also have instant noodles if you're craving for it. I wish they had a fresh oden or soup noodle option especially for the winter period.

H MART HAS POUCH DRINKS AND ICE CUPS!! You know the ones you see in Korean convenience store videos? Yeah, well H Mart's got 'em, along with ice cups (in case you didn't read my first sentence). We got a few pouches, and so far, the Cantabile Peach Iced Tea and Green Grape Ade are my favorites. They're so fruity and refreshing, a tad on the sweeter side, but perfect if you dilute with a bit of water or let the ice melt for a while. I can't wait to try the rest of the flavors! This was a nice H Mart. it has a good selection, including of prepared foods. They have a wide variety of both Asian and American cuisines. I love their kimchi selection. They also have a nice supply of those hipster soft drinks. Go. It's worth a visit.

I love h-mart, frequented the 110 st and k-town and NYU locations. However some of their prices seems crazily high! For example: Hikari Organic Miso white 17.6 oz is $14.99 but the exact same item is only $7.45 at an East side Japanese supermarket! Why is it more than double the price at K-mart? Another complain, specific to the 110th street location, their hot bowls like kimchi fried rice, while reasonably priced and tasty, sit on heated metal shelves at rather hot to the touch temperature, for hours but in a plastic container. Isn't plastic and prolonged heat bad for our health? I stopped buying their hot bowls since they started to put them on those hot metal shelves. I sure hope they don't do this at the new 69th street location. Also the selection of Asian popsicles and also other snacks for now is a bit less compared to the 110th st store. I hope they improve over time.

Great place to get w daikon without having to onto Ktown or 108 St. literally right by Lincoln Center. I have not done extensive shopping here but hope they have a top selection of teas and caffeine ! Even to-go pastries /tea would be amazing. No ambiance. It's a supermarket. Yes to more Asian markets all over NYC.

Decided to take a trip here since I wanted to make an Asian udon noodles for dinner. The store had a lot of wide range of selections. However, I wish that they had more associates in the aisles to help you in case you're looking for something. The store it's pretty confusing, especially since a lot of the items are imported and are written in a different language.

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU HAVE DARK SKIN (NO MATTER WHAT ETHNICITY YOU ARE, YOU WILL BE TARGETED AND FOLLOWED AS A RESULT OF YOUR SKIN COLOR AND RACIAL PROFILING. **As a disclaimer, I would like to point out that this is the first time I have ever written a review about an establishment of this type. My general approach to life is to keep my head down, go to work, and come home. I do not look for trouble in any form whatsoever. ** On my first visit to this place, a co-worker requested that I accompany them to purchase lunch. While shopping around, one of my coworkers asked me, "Are we being followed?" I am a person who does not enjoy trouble, I keep to myself, and I dislike confrontation at all costs. As I replied to him, "Eh, I'm not sure, just keep shopping," I could not help but notice that we WERE being followed by the security guard...every aisle we walked through we saw him. For the record, the security guard is a tall, semi-heavy set black man of African or Caribbean descent with dark skin, similar to my own. He typically wears a beanie as well. After initially giving HMART the benefit of the doubt (which I should not have done since I know better) I went a second (a few weeks ago) and third time (TODAY). The same thing happened with the same security guard and today time there was another black security guard who was following me while the original one (tall guy with the beanie -- was watching me from the monitor). In their mind, "Black skin = you are going to steal from this establishment, so we are going to follow you around so that you do not steal." This review has been written because I am horrified and offended by this type of behavior from the black security guards at HMART on 72nd Street. I believe it is more than likely that HMART is enforcing these policies on the security guards in an effort to target exactly the people who look like them (the security guards) Which I find extremely offensive and troubling. I am horrified and offended to say the least. These individuals have NO CLUE who I am and what I do and the fact that we are still facing these types of situations, especially from our own kind, in 2025 is baffling, pathetic, and extremely offensive. But no worries, I will make it my business to tell the individuals in my network not to spend a dime here. Oh and best believe our dollars are long. In the event that you continue to come here after reading this review, you're on your own. It is evident that this is a place intended only for the Koreans and whites passing individuals!

Love that there is a new H Mart in the neighborhood! This is an awesome store that took over the previous Rite Aid space between W 69th and W 70st on Amsterdam Ave. Thr store was busy with shoppers on its second day and has all your favorite Asian food items. Their selection of kimbap looks amazing. They don't have hot ready-to-eat food just yet but they have signs up that it is coming soon.

I appreciate the review, by Sara. R below, about the racial surveillance of the black security guys. I am East Asian and experienced the same "being followed by" as you did. Don't be surprised if H Mart removed your review--that happened to me after several months.

I was excited about an H-Mart opening closer to me. As with the 110th street location, prices are a little inflated, but the selection of unique Korean goods is varied and I love the produce section. I was also tickled by their selection of pouch drinks and ice cups, including zero sugar options. That said... they need to work things out staff-wise. I had a strange interaction where I was hovered over and micro-managed while using the self-service checkout. This included being critiqued on my scanning technique and being told I should have just gone over to a human cashier. Why offer self-checkout as an option then...? This unpleasant and semi-aggressive exchange makes me not want to return any time soon, if ever.

BEWARE! We just purchased these well before the expiry. They are putrid. My daughter took a bite and complained. Then we confirmed. The chocolate filling is sour and bitter and, without question, expired. They offered a refund. But of course that's not good enough. A child consumed dangerously expired food. We have been eagerly awaiting the opening of this H Mary but can no longer return. Completely unacceptable

I was excited when I heard HMart was coming to the neighborhood Disappointed in a couple of things I bought today First was a bag of lil snappers honey crisp apples that was on sale Apples ended up being mealy , yuck 2nd product I wanted try was the Korean pop corn which tasted super stale , like it had been sitting around forever Truly disappointing !! I had the weirdest experience. I'm not sure if it was racist. I might just take my business to the Gracefully market on West End Avenue. This was my first time making a purchase and I decided to use self checkout. One of the cashiers tries to call me over to her checkout lane because she wants me to checkout with her. I tell her I want to use self checkout and she replies it's for 5 items or less. I physically count out to her that I have 5 items. That annoyed me. Why have self checkout if you won't let people use it? I'm sure it was just if of trying to be helpful, but it just came off as aggressive. Like another reviewer wrote, I was also hovered at checkout by the cashier who tried to call me over. I don't know why because there were other people on line and the other cashiers were busy. Yes, she closed her checkout lane so she could monitor me. I do understand that lots of stores have an employee monitor self checkout, but it's real weird that 1) she was doing double duty maybe and 2) I was treated like I was illiterate (I saw the 5 items or less sign and I only had 5 items). I felt it was racist because physically I don't present as East Asian even though I am 50% East Asian. I do wonder if this exchange would have happened if I looked more Asian. I don't know if I'd come back here after that. I was really excited about having this store in the neighborhood.

Prejudice? Discriminatory? I went with my mom and we're both latinas. Realized half way through that the security guard was following us around, popping up out the aisles to stare at us. It just seems strange given that he made direct eye contact with me at one point. Besides that selection is great.

I went food shopping here for the first time last 4/3/25. 1 of the food i bought was wagyu beef . I froze it immediately upon arriving home . Yesterday my husband decided to cook it . It smells so bad so we are not able to eat it . This is the ist time it happened to us. Only in this branch of Hmart. !!! The others are all so great .Eventhough its a little pricey its supposed to be good but not on this hmart . And also the 2 security guards are kinda intimidating , NOT in a nice way .

I have visited twice, once alone and once with children. Such a terrible experience both times. Only special thing about this hmart was its location but I would much rather travel for better customer experience. Cashiers are rude no matter how nice you are.Security follows you around and blocks your way.

Starting with the positives, they are well organized and have a lot of selection to choose from. Pretty clean as well. Unfortunately I have been there twice and both times the security guard who is Black hovers and stalks any customer who is Black. Both times I went the store was pretty packed with all types of people but he specifically hovered over the Black customers. He left everyone else alone. I actually think he is told to do that. I am not sure what is going on but in 2024 and in NYC this is unacceptable behavior.

I'm very happy to have Hmart so close to where I live, saving me trips to NJ or K-town. It's a pretty small space but it has the basics, at very high prices by the way. My biggest gripe is that the security are overzealous and that's a turn off.

I recently visited this H Mart location and was excited to explore the vast selection of Asian groceries. The store's layout was well-organized, making it easy to navigate the aisles and find what I needed. It was nice air conditioned and I was able to grab some sashimi for a fair price to have a nice lunch. They have an extensive drink selection and had many things I have never seen before.

The security guard followed me and my sister from the moment that we walked. And he did so without even trying to hide it. I felt extremely uncomfortable to see him at every aisle watching me straight on like I were a thief. When going up to the counter to pay before even getting the chance to, he told me to empty my pocket in front of everyone there. I never even received an apology after showing that I had no store merchandise in my pockets. Completely humiliating experience!

EXTREMELY racist security. Do not come here if you are black. I've been here twice and both times, security has stalked me around the store. I've never had an issue at any other grocery store on the upper west side. The security is so ridiculous that both times they've hovered so close to me (AT CHECKOUT, mind you) that I've had to tell them to back away from me. Overall just a jarring and uncomfortable experience to be racially profiled while GROCERY SHOPPING of all things.

Sorry, but I was disappointed after such anticipation. I would say that 75-80% of the items sold do not have English on the packaging, so I have no idea what delicious things might be for sale. They need to give tours to those unfamiliar with their Asian products (almost all of the employees appear to be Hispanic, so I think they will need some time to get up to speed with their products). Check out staff were friendly and helpful.

An amazing new market on Amsterdam @ 69th Street. All sorts of international foods. They have the best array of juices and sodas, including Jarritos. Service is wonderful. No wait lines at the register and prices are very low. 1/2 and 1/2 cream only $3.95! It is clean and streamlined. Easy to move through isles. A++++

The store looks organized, but not the way it should be. I bought a packaged noodle only to find out at home that they were discolored and rotten inside which was hard to see without opening it. And then, I noticed that the package says "keep frozen" but at the store, it was NOT in the freezer; it was at the refrigerated section.
