"While it’s not a restaurant, it’s worth noting that there is an excellent selection of frozen Korean corn dogs sold at various locations of H Mart. There’s no long line to get crispy Korean corn dogs here and there are only a few simple steps before enjoying the snack: pick a preferred brand and fry them in an air fryer or oil — yes, they can taste as good as the restaurant ones. You can come up with your own sauce varieties, either by mixing ketchup and mayo or even honey mustard. Some notable brands to look out for at H Mart are Lotte’s Mozzarella Cheese & Potato Hotdog, Kikeni Crispy Mozzarella Corn Dog, and Pulmuone Breaded Mozzarella & Fish Cake on a Stick." - James Park

"Korean grocery chain with a cult following H Mart will likely open its new Upper West Side location soon. The store is located at 110th Street and Broadway, with already filled produce sections. Known for Korean and other Asian goodies, H Mart is popular for items not found in most local groceries and a robust prepared foods section." - Serena Dai

So nice to have an H Mart closer to home. This store is well organized and full of unique grocery items. There is also a small skincare and household item section. I love this store!

I happen to go in because I needed some Covid masks. They had what I wanted at a reasonable price. I took time to look at vegetables & other foods. They have a great selection especially of greens! I definitely need to go back to food shop!!

It's great to have an h mart in this section of the city! They have a great variety of items, but it is a bit cramped. It feels a bit like a prison the way security is so heavy here. I would give 5 stars if things weren't grossly marked up. Obviously, the hmart locations in Queens have better prices. But some of the markups are ridiculously high. Also, sometimes they dont honor the circular. All in all, if you need Korean ingredients in the city, head here. Also, the fried chicken they sell here is AMAZING.

When I go here I spend too much money. There's so many things to buy, and to try. I love to go here, but I try to shop with blinders on, because I want to try everything! Delicious. Delicious! Great food.

If we were to rate this store based on diversity of selections, I totally say this place is 5 stars... on the other hand, the prices here are so bad it is pretty laughable. Even some items I found were cheaper to order online from another store and have it delivered for me.

As an Inwood resident I appreciate the 110th st. Store, it saves me a trip to Chinatown and generally had everything I want. The selection of frozen dumplings is fantastic and fresh kimchee abounds.

I have been living in this neighborhood for a couple of years and this hmart is a blessing. This is a soft open, according to the flyer on the door and they generally close ~ 10.30 in the nights. Overall the location is amazing as it's right next to the subway and they have pretty all manner of things. But the size is not that large and the layout is not the most intuitive. You enter on the right, the left door is for the exit. The doors are automatic. On entering you see the veggies section, go past it for the small dairy and juices section. This leads to a space with household items for all manner of things from cheap China to shower curtains to cookers. Go past this to see Multiple ailes with specialized foods, like one for noodles, one for instant noodles, one for condiments etc ( Hurrah for roasted seaweed ). The meat section is all the way to your right. Go straight past the aisle to find the frozen section with all manner of frozen foods from dumplings to microwave dishes. The line for the counters usually start in here and they already seem to be growing in size. You pay for the items and exit. Only things I didn't like were that all items were not labelled with price, the aisles did not have any signs near them and the layout was not very intuitive. Nevertheless amazing we have a hmart here now. Keep up the good work guys.

Yelp
Despite being one of the smallest hmarts I've ever been in, the selection is not lacking at all! I especially enjoyed all of the ready to go meals. I did end up getting a stomach bug after eating my leftover but maybe that's on me because I picked it up before going to the airport and then ate the rest the next day. So maybe don't travel with these. But the workers are still so friendly even when they're packed. The lady checking me out ended up giving me free hand lotion! So would definitely come back even after getting sick lol.

Yelp
When I first moved into the neighborhood I was so excited because H Mart is so close to the new location. However I have found myself to be less than impressed with the grocery store once I started doing my main food shopping here. One of my main concerns is food safety. Today is a great example of this concern. I bought six onigiri rice triangles and didn't realize that the expiration date was today. I thought that it was a simple mistake with an easy fix regarding a refund on only those products. The refund would have simply been $25. I spent a total of $135. Normally I take expiration dates with a grain of salt but when it comes to fish and chicken that's just not an option. When I spoke to two people at the store and despite the fact that the food was expired I was refused a refund. They tried to skirt around the fact that it was unsafe to eat after only one day of making it. That's not a good sign that their "fresh" fish expires after one day of being refrigerated. At first they told me that it was safe to eat and then after prying for more information they said that it wasn't safe. I didn't want to cause a scene so I left and told them that I would be calling the credit card company to dispute the charges. I'm grateful that there is a Westside Market across the street. I've come to trust them as a business and they have phenomenal customer service. Oh well.

Yelp
This was my first time in an HMART and I will never be back! The racial profiling is so extremely blatant and I suggest that you NOT spend your money here if you're Black. Companies that see you as a criminal instead of a customer do not deserve your hard earned money. Looking through the reviews, I see that this is a common practice by the staff. Read about my experience below to learn more. The story: I'm wandering around the store a bit as I'm unfamiliar with the layout but eventually I find the case of frozen tteokboki that I'm looking for. As I'm perusing the the case, a member of staff comes out of nowhere and steps DIRECTLY in front of me to "organize" the already organized items. He doesn't say excuse me or anything. I look to my right and surprise...a security guard comes round the corner nearly bumping right into me. They joke with each other for a minute and the security guard leaves. I peep the situation immediately and so I end up moving down the row of frozen foods because I'm just curious to see what happens next. Guess what? The employee actually FOLLOWS me and then pretends to organize another clearly organized case. So I speak to him. This man actually pretends like he doesn't hear me. Absolutely wild and rude. I put back the bag of tteokboki I was going to purchase and abandon my shopping trip completely. Never. Again.

Yelp
Pro: Super close to Columbia University and has a great selection of asian food Con: Most (if not all) of their items are overpriced. I have shopped religiously at California's H Marts before moving to NYC. The prices in California are much cheaper. I think this H Mart location price gouges because they know they have a captive audience of Asian students at Columbia. I would expect this type of price gouging at a local NYC bodega. But I am disappointed that H Mart (a national grocery store with stores across the country) would price gouge. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth about how little they respect their customers. In comparison, Target and Trader Joes and Whole Foods don't price gouge; their prices in California and NYC are similar.

Yelp
Let's face it, New York City is definitely not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, whether that's due to everyone coming here to chase their dream here or simple supply and demand. New York City is expensive in part because of choice and diversity that it has to offer. Where else can you find authentic ethnic food and the ingredients to make said ethnic food. You can add H Mart, the Korean counter part to the Sunrise market for Japanese groceries or Patel Brothers for Desi groceries or Tashkent for Eastern European groceries, to the list of things that you can pretty much only find in the New York area. You're not going to find those ethnic groceries in Iowa (no disrespect to anyone from Iowa). That being said, this particular H-mart is not particularly cheap but that's a given considering that it is in the Morningside Heights neighborhood where there are a lot of Columbia students. But you can find a good selection of Asian groceries, hot foods to go, some baked goods to go, even housewares like plates and dishes that you can't find elsewhere in the neighborhood. Sure you could probably go to Flushing for cheaper things but that's an hour plus away from the area. The H-mart is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Susan C.

Yelp
This Hmart is a good resource for Asian groceries in this neighborhood, as one of the smaller city-format stores (as I like to call them) that has a much tighter footprint aka store space, they manage to efficiently pack a very broad variety of products for all your Korean, Asian, and some non-Asian supermarket needs. Being in UWS it is priced higher than your average suburban Hmart but not too extravagant in comparison to some other UWS stores. Walking into the store there's a smallish fresh vegetables and fruit section, followed by refrigerated dairy and drinks, refrigerated shelf of various kimchi and panchan, and aisles of marked with different categories of products. I do have to give a shoutout to the breadth of fresh prepared Korean food they carry, both hot and cold--Korean fried chicken, kimbaps, gyudon and tempura items, sashimi and sushi grade fish, dukbokgi, kimchi pancakes, bakery items, etc. a terrific spot to grab a quick meal to go or a snack. Aside from their very extensive ramen aisle and drinks aisle (think teas, coffees (powdered mixes and beans), citron tea, herbal supplements, juice, boxed drinks), they also have a couple aisles of assorted housewares and bath/beauty products.

Smeeth W.

Yelp
My favorite grocery store in morning side heights. This Asian grocery store sells many products from Korea, Japan and China. And a lot of stuff are great. The price is a little higher than some other stores but the quality is very good and they do have some stuff other grocery stores don't have. You can buy some of them from online stores like Yami for a cheaper price, but for in person shopping, this is one of the best in terms of Asian products

Yelp
I used to love this place ...as I still do ! I love it because they're efficient ; plus it's properly organized !!! They also do well with customer service . Extremely helpful ..SO NOW I CANT BLAME THEM FOR THIS NEXT part ...or can I ...TIK TOK HAS MADE certain ramen viral ..I'm upset because they stopped carrying certain brands and have downgraded to a more generic brand of ramen ..(understood) However there charging double the price for this generic brand..I guess they have the right !! I'm just upset ..plus they don't carry much stuff in this hmart ..but I appreciate their willingness to help

Yelp
I've lived in Morningside Heights for 7ish years now and have been to this hmart SO MANY times. As a Latina, I would say I'm not their usually customer but I've never felt out of place there. The staff does try to make this store inclusive and I very specifically go there for the Asian veggies. And if they're ever out of stock of something I just go up to the staff and ask if they have any in the back and they usually go check for me. They do welcome any customer of any background, at the end of the day they want you to spend money there and are happy to help. There seems to be a lot of debating about the African American security guards in these reviews but to give you a little context, when I first moved here and started visiting this store, they only had 1 a few years ago and it would usually be on weekend when it gets busy. In recent years shoplifting in the area has gotten out of hand. If you go to Whole Foods at Columbus Av on 96th/100 they also have security that walks around the store. And at the TJMaxx their security guard wears a bullet proof vests. I constantly see cop cars outside those stores arresting people for shoplifting. When I went to home goods recently asked asked for bedsheets they said they stopped stocking them for a while because they were the top item being stolen. Yes the security at hmart does circles around the store but if you're not stealing then you shouldn't feel awkward about it. THEY LITERALLY WATCH EVERYONE EQUALLY. Whether your black, brown, white, Asian, it's their job to be on their toes and keep an eye out. And since they work in a really busy market, you know there has to be some shoplifting here and there so they got hired to cut down on that. Now the checking receipts is new, they hadn't done that in recent months, but I guess they check receipts at Costco too so it might just be an update on store policy. And as someone who has worked retail i can say that managers do bag checks all the time, it's literally company policy at any retail location. I would also add that the prices for a lot of their products is really great. It rivals Trader Joe's on 92nd and Whole Foods on 96th. I get a decent amount of veggies for an affordable price. Now we're not talking like whole sale Costco prices, but they are decent for the amount that you get. Like this package of long peppers that would last me a week is only $4. I think that's a steal especially in Manhattan where everything is expensive! Like if I go to a restaurant to get Kimbab, it'll be like $12/$15 so why not just get it at hmart or buy the ingredients there and make it myself? But I do see some things that are more expensive than others but that can't be helped especially if it's imported. All and all, this hmart is a solid grocery store options. The security guards recognize the regulars and tend to say "hi" or as they check your receipt they'll tell you to "have a nice afternoon/rest of your day." They're polite guys. And the staff is always happy to help you. I just knocked down a star because I use to go to a Super HMart in my hometown and they sell liquor there. Like all sorts of imported Korean and East Asian liquors, I just wish this store had the license to do that.

Elyse S.

Yelp
I cooked the lovely thick piece of fresh salmon. I've done it at least 6 times using their fish. It was yummy and moist!

Alexia G.

Yelp
What I really didn't like is when I was leaving, I saw security going through the bag of an employee to leave. It just doesn't look or feel right. Trust the employees you hire. Just putting this out there. What is this? I am noticing less plastic wrap and styrofoam so that's good. The market can be overpriced for a lot but some good buys, too. Smaller location and if you are coming for some of the fried chicken, it does go very quickly.

Michael G.

Yelp
Security is a little intense but they crawl on everyone equally, so... good? Lots of products, tons of East Asian things that are hard to come by elsewhere so that's cool. Despite most products being imported, the prices are decent. Conveniently located in front of the 110 station on the 1 train.

Kerrie D.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of H Marts. The larger ones have an incredible selection of meats and seafood and snacks, an abundant fruit and vegetable selection and a food court! I especially love H Mart for its variety of Kitkat flavors, so excellent and so much more reasonable than ordering online. This is a smaller H Mart, with a more limited selection, but shared a mango mousse bun, fresh from their bakery today and it was really, really good!

Powell M.

Yelp
I can find almost everything I need for my pantry at reasonable prices. Also very good for fresh herbs, fresh fish, some sushi grade.

Florence L.

Yelp
I went to H Mart because we were having a building party. I bought ingredients to make cold sesame noodles. I bought wheat noodles, Sesame seeds, sesame Past and garlic hot past. Store was huge, this young man helped me to find the garlic hot past & the sesame past. It took awhile because they sell about 50 kinds of hot past. Store was clean vegetable were fresh.

jeronimo p.

Yelp
if your gonna advertise korean fried chicken in the window the least you could do is have it in stock. i've visited this location multiple times in a week i've only been able to get K fried chicken once. Flop.

Evan M.

Yelp
Love this store. Really glad to have an H Mart pretty close to where we live. It's a definite go-to for us for lots of Asian cuisine ingredients. This store is a nice size located up near Columbia on Broadway and W 110th. You really can't go wrong by shopping at H Mart, especially if you're familiar with some of their products by having lived in Asia. The staff is nice and checkout is a breeze.

Autumn H.

Yelp
I like this Hmart but their aisles are kinda small and tight. At least compared to other Hmart's I've visited. They have almost everything but their produce section is pretty small. Their meat, seafood and prepared foods are fresh. They have hot chicken and other meals. Every time I go I try something new. As for their customer service.. it could be much better. It seems like the workers don't wanna help or you're bothering them.

Taryn C.

Yelp
This place has become a godsend during the time of what-shall-not-be-named. When I couldn't find toilet paper, I came here. When I saw the imported Kit Kat's, different types of ramen and even their abundant produce department; I stayed! I swear by their grapefruits. It's a bit pricey in here - I'm sure importing matcha green tea Kit Kat's isn't cheap - but I usually will spend $9 to try a Flavor you can't readily get here. I also recommend them over other basically glorified bodegas in the hood. You get for regular every day items (think: eggs, milk, cheese) for a decent price. And their ramen is the Bomb..en (sorry had to rhyme). Check it out - it's worth the trip!

Andy R.

Yelp
Careful! They have a tendency to overcharge. I was charged for an item that was never put in the bag. When I complained they had to review their security camera. When confirmed I was overcharged they didn't refund the money because they couldn't find the transaction in "their system." Bottom line check your receipt carefully before paying bec if there's a discrepancy you'll be out of luck.

Tom G.

Yelp
Your very typical H-mart with a pretty good selection of produce like fruits. They had a good variety of unique fruits like to colors of Dragon fruits. The store itself is very neatly organized, and very clean. Overall a great location, good selection. Overpriced? Yes but lots of stuff here you will not find at Whole Foods. The H Mart at 32nd Street is always super crowded, even at the late evening hours. But here you can walk around and look at items in a really diverse selection but well organized shelves.

Joy G.

Yelp
Before H Mart took over the entirely useless D'Ag that was here previously, I did not have a nearby Asian grocery supermarket and my existence suffered for it. Where else could I go to grab Chinese pickled veggies on a whim, even if I no longer had a rice cooker and didn't have the faintest idea how to make congee. Or pork floss (that hairy, shredded mess that prompted my middle school friends to joke it looked like my hair) or thousand year egg (which had won me first prize in an ad hoc dorm-room competition for who could eat the grossest thing). Trader Joe's will always be first in my heart but their ethnic foods selection - don't even get me started on the branding - is not quite up to snuff. Enter H Mart. Enter the vast quantity of marinated meats: bulgogi, chicken wings/drumsticks, pork. Enter the entire aisle dedicated to instant ramen, both the kind in a bag and the kind in a plastic bowl, putting Maruchan and Instant Noodle to shame. Enter the aisles filled with Asian snacks and candies. And don't even get me started on the prepared food selection. I dare anyone coming here with a set grocery list to not walk out with some sort of last-minute treat in their bag. Yes, I know the selection may not be as wide as that of the H Mart in downtown or across the river in Edgewater. Yes, the aisles are super crowded, particularly the area near all the china. Yes, the produce is Zabar-level expensiveness and you'll pick up and put down a box of enormous, organic blueberries and wonder if $13 is worth it. No, it really might not be. My H Mart go-tos: 1) Shin Ramen black - thicker noodles, stronger sauce than the original Shin. 2) The long sheets of seaweed that I use to make crappy carb-less sushi and end up just eating plain, with little bits raining all over my lap. 3) The wall of prepared banchan. My favorites are the small cucumber pickles and the rolled up egg. 4) Frozen dumplings. There's usually a line outside now but it moves pretty fast.

Howard M.

Yelp
Everything Korean can be found at H Mart. Great service great selection great food. Prepared food is delicious!

Joan R.

Yelp
I was followed and noticed that non-white customers were being followed by security. Staff and security are hostile and create an unsafe environment for customers. Racially profiling black and brown people is horrendous and not okay. I also heard a staff member whistling every time a women passed by not sure if that's some sort of code. I was in here for 5 minutes and will not be returning. Harassing customers is not acceptable and incredibly dehumanizing. Do better!

Jessica J.

Yelp
Hmart has gotten super expensive over the years. Everything is $10 and for small portions. I really like their selection of side dishes and pre-made foods.

Robin G.

Yelp
H Mart has a great selection of vegetables and fruits, and many Asian food items that you won't find anywhere else. I am particularly fond of their (warm) vegetable dumplings.

Neha P.

Yelp
I was so excited to see this place opened on the UWS! It is in a pretty good location, right on broadway, and overall decently sized and obviously packed to the brim with typical H-Mart items. I normally am a regular of the location across the river in Fort Lee. So obviously this lacks in space, comparatively, but had pretty much anything I was looking for. This is a typical H-mart with a pretty good selection of veggies, fruits, meats, and pre-packaged foods and noodles. I went on the early-side on AM, so they did not have most of their marinated meat available yet for sale (bummer), but they did have a few options. They had a good variety of unique fruits and vegetables, as well as pre-cut options. A lot of stuff was prepackaged also, which has a benefit of not needing to sift through piles of fruits. They actually had more random kitchenware and other durable goods that I wasn't expecting them to jam into the store. That is good to know for future emergency supply runs. The hours of the store are pretty good, as they are open at 7:30 in the AM. The store itself is very neatly organized, and very exquisitely clean. Overall a great location, good selection, and clean store. Will definitely come back.

Dallison D.

Yelp
The security guard shadowed me for the first 10 minutes of my shopping experience. He then met me at the exit and stared me down. I'm a WOC and that doesn't feel to good. I browsed got some snacks and left. I felt a little uncomfortable . 2

Juliette D.

Yelp
I shop here twice a week with my 9 year old son before his cello lesson. Lately we have been followed by security every time we enter the store. We spend $50-100 each time we are there. This feels like harassment. I would not recommend anyone to shop here.

Dawn M.

Yelp
I love this store, but like every other POC that have walked into this location, I was followed...starting from the beverage aisle right by the front door until I got to the checkout line and walked out the store.. It couldn't get any more obvious that I was being followed as I went into one aisle and being that it was crowded, I went back out the way I came in, just to see the guard behind me staring.

Akane N.

Yelp
Nice selection of Korean- East Asian food and basic daily necessities. Wish I can bring my dog or I would be there much more.

Marie D.

Yelp
I love H-mart BUT this location needs to STOP HAVING ALL ITS CUSTOMERS FOLLOWED AROUND WHILE SHOPPING! It makes the whole experience so uncomfortable! Every single time I've been here I've been followed. Get your shit together upper west side h-mart and stop freaking following all your customers around. Geez!!!!!!! Believe me, I can afford your products and I'll be taking my money elsewhere if you don't do something about this attitude - THERE ARE MANY OTHER REVIEWS THAT HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT SUCH DISRESPECT AND TREATMENT!

Ivan D.

Yelp
Poor customer service. Extremely overpriced. Can someone please open another Asian supermarket around midtown

Zachary S.

Yelp
A great variety of Asian snacks and ok Pre made food. The bowls are fine but nothing special. The fried chicken is hot and flavorful but nothing special. The Korean hot dogs are good but around the same price as similar food made to order at other chains. The onigiri isn't the best, it's bland and poorly wrapped.

nicola b.

Yelp
Slightly overpriced, but I'll pay the premium not to have to elbow my way through Chinatown for Asian vegetables. A reasonable selection of fresh fish at fair prices. Don't go early morning if you're looking to get fried chicken, sushi or kimbap though. The small fresh baked goods section is worth consideration (just don't buy the sausage buns, because they're only for me). A shout out to the best and friendliest security guards in the city! I was a little concerned about being watched when I first shopped there (non Asian, kinda odd looking person me), but I'm known now and OK with it.

Fernando M.

Yelp
"FREE CHOPSTICKS w/ Soup purchase @ checkout." KIDDING? NO!!! GREAT SERVICE? ABSOLUTELY. CHEAPER Nescafé Coffee (decaf) than 3 nearby competitors. WHAT? YUP! Pablo (Paul), Management, STUNNED me into laughter with his wit & demeanor. Why? He's Asian. His Spanish is better than most Latins. AWEMAZING. At checkout, they offered me FREE chopsticks with my First Curry Soup purchase. Their stock (store) presentation "IS" colorFULL. BUT, their service WILL exceed your expectations. JoyFULLy,"i'a "CUSTOMER For LIFE."

Fatzanne G.

Yelp
What an awesome Mart! My daughter makes the very best lettuce wraps with fried pork belly, prime rib, Kimchee, bean sprouts etc and she shop here for the ingredients! The Fried Chicken is boneless and oh so GOOD!!

Katherine T.

Yelp
The products are really good, though they're on the pricey side. I go in here pretty often, but recently I've felt the security is too pushy. They insist on taking my shopping cart from me as soon as I walk in, even if it's loaded with stuff from another store. I was willing to overlook that though for the quality of their goods (especially sushi). I went in there again today, and the security was posted at the door, refusing to let anyone out without a receipt. This seems crazy to me for several reasons, including that it makes your customers feel like criminals AND the door is right next to the cashiers so you can see everybody buying items right in front of you. After reading other reviews about aggressive security, I don't really want to go back.

Celeste E.

Yelp
If you're black or brown be prepared to be followed around. The atmosphere is very uncomfortable for POC, I left my items and walked out because of the workers following me and pretending to fix stuff in every aisle I go.

Louie G. K.

Yelp
A Korean grocery store full of wonderful Asian foods and items. I got a Samanco ice cream.

Marian F.

Yelp
Stopped by this little market while on a quick break from work. I heard they had pretty great sushi that you can grab and go. And i was not led astray. Got this crunchy tuna roll and it was delicious, the fish was so fresh and the roll was very filling! The sushi pieces were huge. Not a bad deal for $9.99. I went through the rest of the store and you can definitely find your fill of asian snacks, goods and delicacies. Its also a good place to get some some of your favorite exotic fruits such as dragon fruit and star fruit as well. Only downside is that the store can be a bit overpriced. Definitely worth stopping by and checking it out though!

Mitzi W.

Yelp
Finally, an Asian grocery store in the upper west side of Manhattan. Mainly Korean products but other Asian foods. Fresh seafood market. And an area of precooked sushi, seafood, chicken, rice dishes. Conveniently located at 110th and Broadway. Has long hours. Also an area near the front door as you exit to eat your precooked goodies!

Kevin C.

Yelp
I'm so glad there's an Asian market in the UWS. Yes, their customer service may be lacking - but that's kinda expected at an Asian market from my experience. I'm more excited about the food selection and availability. My favorite things to get here are fresh vegetables and fresh noodles. They also have a wide variety of herbs to choose from - stuff you won't normally find at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. The selection of fresh noodles here is amazing. Some of the packages don't have an English translation, but for most fresh noodles you can count on boiling for about ~2-3 minutes. I'd just check it as you cook. All in all this is my go-to Asian market when I'm in need of some specific ingredients. It sure beats having to trek down to Chinatown for Asian ingredients.

Nora M.

Yelp
Super convenient for me, and a great selection!! After going to the Whole Foods on Columbus this weekend and only being able to find silken tofu left, I came here to grab a couple things and was delighted by how many different varieties of tofu were available (and at great prices). Vegetables were also great prices and I got some snacks as well. I'll definitely be doing most of my grocery shopping here from now on, both for the convenience and the prices.

Courtney B.

Yelp
I won't have to schlep to Chinatown anymore for my yummy handpulled noodles (which I freeze and use when I wish for stir fry or soup), my asian veggies and mixes/ spices... WELCOME HMART to my Upper West Side! SOOO HAPPY that you're here, and I want to tell everyone far and wide so that you'll stay. That being said... who in the neighborhood wants to split some sushi-grade fish with me? Cuz HMart has huge slabs of tuna, salmon, octopus, etc for $15... and there's no way I can eat all that so quickly. My dream is to go halfsies with someone so that we can split a salmon and a tuna... and so I can make my own POKE!! Ahem... but back to my review... I'm surprised that while they had all sorts of fun veggies (think: all those strange mushrooms/ fungi and wonderful eggplant, bok choy, black garlic, etc...) they didn't have shishito peppers. I was certain that I'd find them there. And after trying them in a mix with bok choy via a Blue Apron recipe, I'm a huge fan (my husband and I aren't into spicy, and shishito peppers are just right for our palates). Prices on the produce are about right, and are going to keep me coming back. There's a variety of packaged food, among them those Taste of Thai soup mixes in flavors I haven't necessarily seen before, a lot of Korean versions of chips/ snacks that you've had before (instead of animal crackers they have K Kritters, which I got a chuckle from) and some strange stuff that I will try in time. The frozen section is rife with dumplings, pancakes and such... I tried a scallion-leek thing that wasn't necessarily a pancake, more like a hot pocket.. and it was delish. They have prepared food in both a refrigerated and heated section. My husband grabbed the spicy tuna sushi rolls-- an enormous package of 12 large sized cuts for $6, but we weren't enthralled... they were like biting into an onion... way too many onions (and carrots) junking up the roll leads me to believe that was one way of not putting as much tuna in and thus making it a $6 spicy onion roll rather than a tuna roll. I loved that they have a pre-sliced frozen section where I can get my beef/ pork etc ready to throw into my hot pot... (gone are the days of trying to get Whole Foods to cut my meats thin enough for this-- phew!) The spices and sauces are fun to explore.... though I need to read up on what I need in my personal shopping list, as some of the stuff I didn't know what I didn't know... for example... what is pre-made eel sauce called? The short of it is... H Mart is a welcome addition and extremely inspiring. I'm gonna have some fun with it in my realm!

Yelp
Walked into the store to purchase a few items and was immediately profiled by secuity. The guard at the front signaled to the guard in the store and he stood directly behind me as I picked out a beverage from the refrigerated aisle. I proceeded to go to the aisle on the left where the teas are located and they circled up and down the aisle like vultures. I'm not the type to pull the race card but I asked a few other shoppers who happened to be white, were they followed...all said "no". I contacted the manager of the store because there was one item that I could not find. He took me through the aisles to find the item. When I was with the manager, security relaxed a bit. Once he was gone, they were back. As I preceeded to get in line, a security guard appeared to my left and at the door. It was like I was personally being escorted out of the supermarket and I was just there to shop. This is my third time shopping at HMart and the messaging I recieved from being repeatedly profiled is that HMart does NOT want POC as cutomers. Needless to say, I will not return.

Yelp
The hot food is good and the Asian product selection is good, BUT the last 5 times I've been here (at this location) I have been followed! EVERY SINGLE TIME. Every single turn I make in the store I see the security following me, watching me. EVERY TIME. It's not like I can't afford to pay for the food I pick up (or any other item). I've continued to return because I like the food and I was foolishly optimistic it was just a one time thing. Today was the last straw, though. After I paid for my items, a security guard stopped me at the exit where the plants are and told me to show him my tote bag where I put my purchased items and my receipt. This is after I just paid at the cash register right in front of him! I understand loss prevention, but the security guards at this location make the experience of shopping annoying and unbearable. I've continued to tell myself "oh, it'll get better. They won't follow you this time." No they have been following me and will most likely will continue to do so. So, shame on me for putting myself through this unpleasant experience yet again. I will no longer be shopping here. I did not think workout leggings, a t-shirt, zip-up hoodie (the hood is NOT up), and a baseball cap AND being a frequent, returning customer would scream "I'm here to surreptitiously rob your store."

Yelp
It seems like they recently opened up inside looks well organized. They do have Korean products but they also have other international products as well. So many new Korean ice cream I wanted to get but couldn't since I live all the way in bayside queens. So many new Korean snacks, I wanted to buy each of them but brought some. Some of the snacks, ramen noodles and etc the price were bit pricey. Queens h mart are more cheaper and with same quality or same product. I was looking for pre made soup in quart container like other h mart has but this hmart didn't have. They only have packaged ones so I wasn't interested. When I stopped there couple minutes ago there weren't any Korean people to ask a question. All the cashiers weren't korean. I couldn't give this place a 5 star review. Will be back again when I'm in the area. See you!

Yelp
Haven't been in for awhile. As soon as I walked in the black security guard at the cash register spotted me and I instantly knew he was going to follow me. I walked to the sushi section and was talking to the fish monger about their selection and bam there's the black security guard. I walked to the frozen dumplings and bam there's the black security guard flustered that he had no one where stand that wouldn't make it obvious that he was following me. Then I walked to the soy sauce isle and bam there he was again watching me pick the sauce. I was in and out in less then 10 min and you're trying to tell me this is a coincidence. It's sad that as an Asian I can't even shop at an Asian supermarket without being targeted and felt I welcomed. I guess I'll stick to buying my groceries elsewhere.
