A Beginner’s Guide to Building a Japanese Pantry in Portland | Eater Portland

"An international Korean supermarket chain with locations in Tigard and on SE Belmont in Portland, H Mart has a spacious market and a fantastic produce section; even though it’s technically a Korean market, I find it carries a good selection of ramen, udon, and soba, plus many overlapping Korean pickles and condiments that substitute for Japanese equivalents. I also buy snacks there—Japanese daifuku mochi appears under Korean names like chapssaltteok—and it stocks frozen and dried noodle options and common Japanese pantry items." - Jade Yamazaki Stewart

Google
Clean, Friendly Staff, so much to look at & love the fresh baked goods! Some prices are a bit more pricey than other stores. Reminds us of our 6 months overseas.

Adam W.

Google
The store is clean and organized. It has a great selection of food and other goods. The prices are also decent compared to other grocers. The store has a deli, soup store and bakery. There is a seafood and meat department. There are several prize claw machines. I didn't notice the usual miscellaneous items hanging off the shelves like an American focused department store. All items seemed to have their own sections. For example, stationary and toys had their own department. The store is handicap accessible. The doors are automatic and the entrance is low enough to accommodate wheelchairs. There are public restrooms located in the front of the store.

Best Northeastern Asian grocery store in Portland. But the membership card didn't work, can't get points on purchase

Google
Always a pleasure. I live a bit a away so I make a run to H every 3 or so months. As always lovely, clean, and easy to find stuff. We had a hard time finding one thing and help was easy to find. Lots of good stuff. Produce looked amazing and it was. Thanks fo doing such an amazing job ❤️

Google
Generally, I love a lot about this place. I was excited there's so much produce. I bought corn yesterday and it already has mold and gnats.

Google
Excellent Korean Grocery Store. On weekends they have fresh food specials and fresh made, packaged Korean delicacies. They also have a Thai food restaurant and a ramen restaurant inside. They even have a great Asian housewares and cooking tools section in the center of the store.

Google
A very cool place for overseas food.

Google
This Hmart is huge!!! Their selection of food is amazing, as usual. They have tinier versions of bottles/ sauces which is nice. They have a few foodstalls which smell good. They also have a nice table/ sitting dining area with a fireplace. They have kimbap & onigiri packaged to grab & go. The claw machines are crappy. The stuffed animals are heavier than the claws grip... so u grab it & it gets dropped at the top of the claws line. Dont waste your money. The cookware & dishes are beautiful. Recommend stopping here.

Yelp
The first time I went here couples of years ago, I bought so much snacks, and end up most of them went expired, is also my fault for not looking at the date lol, I was too excited to buy the snacks to even care , There is every single snacks that you wanted from China or Vietnam is here. Dry fruit, candy, spicy tofu snack, fish cake, sea food, fruit, vegetables and also so many more. Definitely go here.

Yelp
First time in a H mart. Boy this is a fun supermarket. It's not your local supermarket, H mart has almost any that you could imagine for a asian supermarket. The best part they even have a food court to get meals from. I can't wait for one to open in the northern nevada area.

Yelp
H Mart in the PNW is privately owned and separated from the national chain. This means the H Mart app is not nor is there an app for the PNW locations. These location include WA and OR locations only. National H Mart provided me this information and way to contact them. I sent an email to see if they have a points program. It has been a week and no reply. Management, please let me know. My reason for visiting is their house made Kimchi and it did not disappoint. I enjoyed the kimchi in multiple dishes and by itself. Store is clean though the seafood section does have a smell to it. I will return as it is nice to have an Asian market offer Japanese items.

Yelp
Love this place. Clean market and price is reasonable for an Asian market. One of my favorite Asian markets I go to. I drive here all the way from Vancouver for most of my Asian food.

Dani H.

Yelp
I love shopping here and I know during the Pandemic we didn't have them packing our groceries. It's been years now and every time I go to this HMart it drives me crazy when I have to quickly pack my bags before the next customer stuff gets mixed in with my things. For a place that isn't cheap for Asian food you would think they would at least do that.

Yelp
Honesty is not the name of the game here. While browsing the frozen section, I saw the sweet potato bread dessert that was similar to the viral social media trend but was hesitant to buy it since it wasn't the actual brand. The shelf only had this product on it, with a few bags remaining had only one price tag at $3.99. When I brought it up to the cash register, I was in dismay when it rang up at over $10! I told the cashier that the sign said $3.99 and this was the only product on the shelf. She told another colleague to do a price check, so I followed him. The moment he saw the product in the freezer, he took down the price tag and said something along the lines of "different product." I told him that this was the only price tag on the row that the product was on and there were a few bags of it. At that moment, I realized there was a language barrier as he repeated himself, "Different product," so I asked for a manager which I had to repeat myself several times. He eventually told me to follow him by waving his hand, to which he sadly just brought me to another colleague who I could tell wasn't the manager. This individual then pointed at the bag and price tag saying "Not the same." Just like before, I asked for a manager but what surprised me the most was he said, "No manager." Knowing that it cannot be possible to not have a manager on duty, especially with a national chain, I repeated myself and said that cannot be true. He eventually pointed me to the customer service. At this rate, it wasn't about the price anymore but a matter of principle where what I had asked for, a manager, felt like playing a Mario brothers game and I had to pass through every stage to get to "the final boss." Having finally reached what felt like the top of the mountain being able to speak to the manager, I explained to him the situation. He then calmly, which I appreciate, that the UPC and the code on the bag didn't match. I proceeded to tell him I understood that but this was the only price tag on the same row and there were a few of the same bags. Not to mention, how often does someone match the codes up when they are grocery shopping? After spending almost 10 minutes since I was at the cash register, I gave up and learned a valuable lesson - although I will be sadly returning as they are one of the few Korean grocery stores with a variety, be extremely careful with the price tag as they don't care about customer service.

Yelp
The store was clean and easy to navigate, and the employees helped me find a few items I needed. If you go, definitely check out the restaurant!! Their food is so good!

Yelp
Enjoyed our first trip to H Mart and still didn't have enough time to get everything I needed. So I look forward to returning again. Since we arrived hungry, Mr. Picky decided to choose four types of prepackaged sushi. We enjoyed all of it, except the shrimp nigiri. The rice was old.

Yelp
Cashier looked like it was a bother for me to go to her line to have her ring up items. She sat on chair and told me to get items out of basket. None of cashiers here would bag items even when you paid for bag, they would rather just watch you bag rather than helping. No one smile or greet customers!!!

Yelp
They made the Korean part of the food court area nicer and more Korean foods. I went on a Friday and to my surprise, they had fried chicken! Even better, not spicy!! I know people love spicy Korean fried chicken but I can't tolerate a lot of spicy foods. Anyways, for $7.99, it was good as I think I counted at least 11 pieces! The middle part of the wings were very big and it was fried wonderfully! Not too thick and the batter was coated differently than other fried chicken I've had. It was delicious and it didn't leave a nasty oily/bloated feeling. I don't know if they will have fried chicken everyday but I'm guessing it might be a Friday's special. I hope to go to HMART again and find these delicious fried chicken again!

Yelp
H Mart in Tigard would be my weekly go-to grocery store if they had more of the items (American) I use regularly but if you have an Asian recipe you want to try, THIS is the place to shop for your ingredients. H Mart has everything Asian: China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, with an emphasis on Korean, most anyone could ask for. The store is generally clean and well-stocked but aisles can be clogged with boxes of items waiting to be shelved. This just says to me that freshness is important here. The produce is exceptionally fresh, from Thai basil, long beans, Chinese broccoli (so much better than American), bok choy, mustard greens, and winter radish. And the fruit section is much better than any American market and much more diverse: jack fruit, mango, dragon fruit (don't be afraid of how it looks), THE BEST Asian pears, and yes, that stinky durian (try the ice cream). The seafood section is phenomenal. Clean, not smelly like a lot of other places, plus they have a live tank system where you can pick your own crab, lobster, fish, clams, and oysters. I've never had a problem communicating with staff in preparing or cutting what I buy the way I want it. Be patient and polite. The deli section is where I lose it. Lots and lots of ready-to-eat home cooked (mostly) Korean food is available for purchase by weight that is hard to resist. The Korean soups and stews are a staple in our house. We recently bought sushi, tuna and shrimp rolls ($6.99 each) that were delicious. We regularly have house-made kimchi in our fridge, as well as many banchans, also made from scratch daily. The liquor and housewares sections are both fun to stroll through. I love the organizing section in housewares since I can always use help getting my kitchen organized and tidied up. I love all the wooden cooking utensils and pretty dinnerware along with the interesting cutlery on display. Great place to buy an unusual gift for someone who appreciates something new and fun, too. While many reviewers have complained of rudeness, unfriendliness and a lack of smiling by staff, I have found you reap what you sow. Social behavior is largely cultural and I keep this in mind in order to not feel slighted, or offended when the checker, for example, doesn't greet me in the way I expect. It's usually never personal so don't make it a big deal. Employees are overall nice and helpful -whether they speak English or not- and prices are exceptional.

Yelp
Obsessed with H Mart in general I love this location SO much! Everything is so pretty, clean, and organized. Great music as always. Service is good because everyone is very nice. The food, well just take a look at the photos! Decide for yourself

Yvonne D.

Yelp
This is the worst H Mart. The worker doesn't understand English. ( I ask Where is the butter? She said I don't know. Lol) The cashier here didn't help put in the groceries while she was looking at me. I asked her Are you going to help She said NO. What the heck? DONT GO TO THIS HMART.
google avatar

Haley K.

Yelp
Oh H Mart, I wish I lived closer to you. Way too many goodies that makes leaving with just a few things impossible. Everytime we make the trip here, I always make sure to stock up on all things asian. I'd say this place definitely pulls more on the Korean side of Asian products, but I'm always able to find what I need here. Ramen is something always on the list, there are so many options. Because they pull more Korean products, most of the ramen offerings are spicy. My favorite part of this place though Is the prepared food. The jap Chae & the dumplings, steamed & fried, both yummy, & the kimbop. I usually grab a bunch, which becomes dinner. Always coming in clutch for my asian craving/cooking needs.

Yelp
I was around Tigard and decided to check out this grocery store. This is not your typical Asian grocery store. It's a one-stop-shop for your Asian foods and tools. I really like seeing all the pastry and hot food being served. They have a ton of Asian food, produce and snacks. I also like how they have a section where they sell pots, pans, bowls, different kinds of rice cooker, blender and just everyday items you would use for the kitchen. Oh, not to mention they have a great variety of alcohol to choose from. They truly have an expansive selection on everything. Overall: This place is huge and I like how tidy, clean and organized it is. The employees are nice and the prices are good.

Yelp
Sorry for such a late review, but if you are following, I am very behind due to my 6/13/22 SF JapanTown incident, see Yelp. Scary that during all our traveling, we are finding HMarts everywhere??? Quality/Quantity - We got a bunch of snacks today. Food court options: Lucky Ramen, DD Thai Fusion, Bakery. Huge seafood department, see picture. Huge beer and liquor section. Atmosphere - Open 7days a week, see Yelp, their website, or my picture for specific hours. Service - Good. Price - $27.12 for 8 snack items; reasonable price, good quality. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success. We did not expect to see a HMart in OR. Fun facts: The "H" in "H Mart" stands for Han Ah Reum - a Korean phrase meaning "one arm full of groceries." Congrats on being the largest Asian American Supermarket with 84 locations, including international locations in Canada and London, especially from your humble first 1982 store in Queens, NY.

Yelp
When i first came here in 2017 i thought to myself this Hmart is lacking in alot of ways, moving from Dallas Texas and being spoiled with Super Hmart in Carrollton then coming here was a big change, over the years it slowly got better but in the past year its really started taking off, theyve added more food, much cleaner, they only lack in pricing alot of the items on the shelves dont match the price labels so its hard to know how much something is thats my only complaint, besides that i Love Hmart and shop here very frequently

Sharon J.

Yelp
The cashier was very rude and didn't know how to give instructions. she also had an attitude when asked where the boxes are. The food was well priced, but the staff was rude.

CW P.

Yelp
Alright this has been my go to place since I moved to the PNW (10yrs ago). I'm blown away at my purchase of short ribs today not to mention the cost! These short ribs have so little meat on them I feel I bought a bag of bones! It took forever to rinse the shards of little bones so my family would not crack their teeth! I wanted to return them but it's a bit of a drive. Be careful buying these short ribs!!!

Yelp
This is my favorite H Mart location, an Asian grocery chain that has several stores in and around Portland. Unlike the Beaverton location, the Tigard store is organized and much cleaner. Of course there are still huge boxes of products stacked in the aisles waiting to be placed on the shelves, but you still have room to navigate easily. Produce area is large and the fruit and veggies are fresh and at great price points. I enjoy looking at and purchasing fruits and veggies rarely seen in American stores, but that were introduced to me on trips to various Asian countries. Since I cook a lot of different Asian dishes, I can spend a ton of time perusing the noodle and condiment aisles. Each country has their own version of soy sauce, chili paste, curry, etc. and so does my personal pantry! Same with noodles. Rice sticks for Pad Thai; mung been noodles for Pad Woon Sen; egg noodles for Chinese stir fries; wide rice noodles for Drunken Noodles; udon noodles for Yaki; soba noodles and so much more! The bakery is a decent size with pastries, different types of milk breads , baguettes, macaroon cookies, custard tarts, lotus bean buns and too many others to list. Personally, I feel the prices are too high so unless I'm really craving something, I pass. The decorated cakes are beautiful and those are priced well. In the deli area you can buy a variety of dim sum, sushi, kimchi, various noodle dishes, papaya salad, egg rolls, salad wraps and soups. There is Crazy Cat Ramin and DD Thai Fusion if you want food made to order that you can eat there at the counter or purchase to go. The kitchen gadget department and Health & Beauty areas are not to be missed. I've picked up soup spoons, tea sets, fancy chop sticks and rice bowls at great prices and beautiful patterns. Some of the soup ladles are for multi gallon pots, clearly they sell to restaurants! Fun to walk down the snack aisle and check out the dried squid chips, shrimp flavored everything, and marshmallow filled cookies, some in matcha flavor. Always get a kick out of the massive bags of rice. When walking down that section, it looks like a garden store with bags of soil and mulch but the huge bags are filled with rice! My go-to Asian grocery store is Hung Phat in SE; they have a selection and prices that can't be beat, but when I'm running errands in this part of town, H Mart is my store.

Yelp
If you want to buy any Asian, specifically Korean, foods, this is the place to do it. GOODS This HMart has the most amount of selection of goods that I've ever seen. Compare to other HMarts in the SF Bay Area, this by far is the largest and most in stock. You're able to find your typical Korean goods from microwaveable purple rice to kimchi in a jar. If you think of a Korean dish, this place has it! What surprised me the most is that, this HMart is the ONLY HMart I've been to that has an entire section on home goods (pics below). This is so rare for HMarts that I do want to mention. These type of selections only can be seen in LA Korea town. It's definitely a huge plus for people like me, who moved to Portland to find pots and pans that reminds me of home! SERVICE The service is stellar! There are your typical halmonis(grandmas) working in the kitchen to cook up some delicious ready-to-eat meals and the checkout counter people are really nice too! ALL IN ALL, this IS the market to go to for your Asian goods from food to utensils. Highly recommend and definitely deserve a 5 star
google avatar

Kaela B.

Yelp
Good selection of asian products, even found some Hawaii stuff. Would recommend not going on the weekend though, it's just a little too crowded on the weekends for me but other than that it always looks clean and the produce section always looks fresh and well maintained
google avatar

Aiden L.

Yelp
Not that friendly staff and not fresh vegetables. And I have no idea why they have membership card. I can only use this store.

Devonte M.

Yelp
Live tilapia growing mold on one of the fish should've know before buying any still got some and the fish tastes horrible they clearly don't properly care for the live animals making them taste really bad
google avatar

Sophia L.

Yelp
This H-Mart is huge compared to the one in Portland. They have huge bakery as well as a section for pre packaged foods to go. There is a huge array of produce, meat, and seafood.
google avatar

Yelp
Got harassed by their manager or supervisor "KIM" for going in trying to buy their Sriracha. Accusing acting like I was stealing from them and creating an entire scene in front of every customers and other employees. Pretty embarrassing and super unprofessional behavior from their supervisor.

Tania L.

Yelp
This store has a bakery, eatery, as well as wrapped freshly made food items. Large produce section and I am impressed that although they have a large seafood section, there wasn't that smell you get in other seafood stores. Prices are more expensive than I'm used to, but to be expected. We looked down all the aisles of the kitchen gear cause you never know what you might find something you need. We noticed that the staff started following us around and kept eyeing us. I don't know why they would do this, but it made me feel like they thought we were going to steal something. We paid for everything and had our own reusable bags. We even had our son go back in to buy more of something we tried before leaving. Probably won't come back here unless we really can't find something they have.

Benni G.

Yelp
Has everything you need in regard to Asian food! From my experience visiting multiple states and cities throughout the US, I know usually H Mart employees are not friendly so I had low expectations. BUT this was the first store that cashiers wouldn't help bagging. I felt awkward sweating and bagging my 30-40 items while the cashiers use their phones or chit chatting with others while waiting for me to clear. Yes I have done 'self-bagging' at discounted groceries or warehouse stores but not H Marts!
google avatar

J T.

Yelp
Good selection if you want Korean groceries, but not too great for other Asian grocery needs. Also, the prices are very high compared to a Ranch 99 and service is equally bad, but at least you don't have to pay for it like at H-Mart. I would love to see one smile when I shop here. Got to do some training and customer service secret shopping.

Yelp
Need frozen dumplings? Banchan? Instant spicy ramen? Crazy drinks? Face mask? Grilled seaweed? Kim Chee refrigerator? If you answered yes to any of the above or are looking for a good Korean market this is the place. HMart is in a strip mall off highway 99. Tons of parking, right off 217, super convenient. Things I like to get: - deli banchan. Want to have a Korean meal at home. Just grab a bunch of sides here, cook some rice and you're set. I particularly like their spicy tofu, Kim chee cucumber and their Korean fried chicken - it's like a spicy general tso. Take home or they have a big eating area - drinks. Banana milk is a big thing in Korea for some reason. Tastes great, loaded with sugar. If you want to be all Oregon you they have Banana soy milk too. Also a big fan of sac sac, which is grape juice with grape chunks mixed in. - they have a massive frozen area with a zillion types of dumplings. Pick one and try it out - I've never had a bad one - there's also a bakery and small food court with Vietnamese and Thai.

Joni M.

Yelp
Such an amazing selection of Korean food! This store is stocked well and also offers cooked food at the deli takeout. Definitely one of the better Asian markets in the area.
google avatar

Caitlin M.

Yelp
I recently moved and was looking for yet another Asian grocery store to make my ethnic dishes at home. This place is HUGE and the selection was overwhelming but I was happy to have an abundant amount of choices. Store was clean and things were in boxes (which is what I was looking for) sounds crazy but I know it's a good place when they still have items in boxes. Employees were friendly. Prices were fair and I was able to easily get all the ingredients I needed.

Yelp
So disappointed y'all!!! After some very spoiled great experiences from other locations I went in thinking it's an obvious guarantee I would be pleased with this spot? Keep in mind this chain is very refined and super consistent!!! But sadly went in with too high of expectations and unfortunately with limited access I probably would recommend? Saaaad....This spot had only one over priced soju option and very limited meat or seafood plus very meeeeh selection of spicy rice cakes in the frozen sections and very limited ramen selections too? Surprisingly they did have more Asian options in noodles and other surprises but super disappointed with the lack of my go to surplus needs not filled so I'll have to find another source for my basic Korean needs!!!

Yelp
11:30a on a Saturday and I ask myself, where are all the people? Barely any cars in the lot (not that I am complaining) but found it odd. Anyway, this place is a one stop shop with a bakery, food court, groceries, home items, cosmetics, and more. The samples of Korean side dishes are nice and the organization of the space works out well. With k-pop, both old and new playing a charming way to shop. However, the seafood corner was a wait, there wasn't anybody in line but a manager (showing the other employees paperwork or something and wearing a different color uniform style) or other employee was talking to the other employees in a corner while myself and my mom were waiting. I tried to be discreet and look over at the manager and smile, calling her over but nothing. My mom also tried to wave them over I think but was on my phone, enough time for me to check various social media accounts and read news articles. Finally, after some time the employer helped us and all was good. I just wonder if the conversation was super important as another batch of customers were starting to wait after we got our fish. Not a big deal but just a little strange. Overall, we got what we needed and headed off to the next grocery store.

Michael M.

Yelp
This store didn't let my emotional support/ service dog just coz he aren't labeled as one , I don't need to prove anything to you & you don't own any of us . If dogs aren't allowed out that in your door !!

Steven'nTomoko H.

Yelp
Butcher is very dishonest. We have bought H-Mart FRN Beef Brisket Thin Sliced meat more than once at other H-Mart locations but at this H-Mart on Pacific Hwy. is the first time we had such a dishonest practice. We bought 2 packets with the same issue. They pack just fat flat in the bottom of the container so you would not be able see it easily. The container ended up having over half it's weight in fat. I will not go back to this H-mart again! Such a dishonest practice. I also wrote NW headquarters about it and they did not replied back to me.

Christine N J.

Yelp
BY FAR THE WORST EXPERIENCE IVE EVER HAD IN A GROCERY STORE. Actually the worst in any retail establishment! I left feeling incredibly bothered by the staff! My story: I'm making a special dish for a family gathering tomorrow morning and I ran out of annotte powder. I just needed two packets ($2.28 cost). I look at the time and it's 9:44 so I drive to H-Mart. I only live 4-5 min away so I figured it's appropriate. I run in and meet a worker standing at the door/ he says "we close". I look at my phone for the time and see it's 9:51.... So then I reply "we still have 9 min. I only need one thing and I will be quick". I take two steps in the store and a woman comes around from the Customer service area- throws her hands in the air, marking an X with her arms and says "we are closed". I then repeat what I just said 5 seconds ago,.., "we have 9 min" She then looks up at what I think was a clock because at that point I felt incredibly disturbed by her demeanor but was in much of a hurry for their sake of time, that I did not confirm it was a clock she glanced at. I rush down the isle to find annotte powder (took me maybe 30 seconds tops) I then run to the register to find a third staff member looking fiercely irritated. She took my items and kept the conveyer belt going as if to make my uncomfortable while trying to pull money out of my purse. I walk around to the Bag Area because the counter was steady there. Handed her a $20. She rudely handed me my change and jolted back with attitude. I said "thank you". She said nothing back. this." I have never made a complaint about an establishment. Frankly, people that know me will likely say I'm kind, logical and empathetic. My experience tonight was by far the most rude and poorly display of professionalism - therefore deserves a review! I wish I could speak to someone in an executive level about this! My perspective is that the staff member out front was there to lure away last minute shoppers but unable to close the doors for compliance. The one that threw her arms up was rude and irritated that she had to wait for another shopper. The one at the register mimicked their behavior. If I was going to spend more than a couple min in the store then I would not have not gone. I understand these workers want to go home. However, Even then that should never be the reaction! You never know what someone is going to the store rushing at the last few minutes.... It could be medicine or something personally critical.... So just be kind.

Yelp
Best Asian market in Tigard! Lol. Those who know... they know. It's a Korean market but there's plenty of other groups cuisines represented here too. For instance, I find lots of the Japanese ingredients here that we use in my families' recipes. They have a fish and meat dept. as well as three counters you can order fresh made lunches. I always go to DD Thai but only because I have a tough time changing since I love it so much. I always find great deals here so I recommend you go in and browse the grocery aisles. I found a $9.99 huge (restaurant size) coconut milk can that was easily 10 normal cans worth. That would run me about $23 if I bought regular cans. I also found my new favorite glutinous rice flour. I use this for making baked mochi - chichidango and baked coconut mochi. The snack aisles are HUGE and packed. There's tons of variety of seaweed. There's a kitchen gadget section. Rice cookers. Hot pots. I also found my favorite tortilla chips here. They're made locally in Hillsboro and they're the best!

Yelp
Their ramen selection alone had me weak lol. It was awesome. I just walked around throwing so many different kinds of ramen into my cart. Thank you!!! It's not near my home by any means, but if I'm ever out in that area. I swing by. Can you guys please the aisle of fun socks with characters again? Last time I went, I couldn't find any of my favorite socks. Love that there is thai food, korean, and Vietnamese little restaurants inside the grocery store.

Yelp
This is my go to Asian store whenever I need Asian ingredients. They have pretty much everything I'm looking for minus a few ingredients I would only find at other south East Asian stores. That being said, this place is a Korean store so it only makes sense they have a majority of Korean products. Nevertheless, this store is great! Their produce is always fresh and so is their seafood section. You can buy fresh crab, fish, and oysters just to name a few. They also have fresh abalone. I recommend going on a Saturday where they lay out all their different varieties of banchan and kimchi for you to sample. Stop by their 3 different restaurants and a bakery if you're fatigued from all your shopping. DD Thai makes authentic Thai food (I approve) and the pho shop also makes bubble tea. I will say that the Korean restaurant is ok, just ok. If you're wanting some quick Korean food it does it's job.

Yelp
NEVER COMING BACK!!! HORRIBLE! service at the Korean restaurant. Beware of the cashier lady on Sunday 8/18/2019. She was rude and does not understand the meaning of customer service. I ordered the beef tofu soup and received seafood. I explained "I always order the beef tofu soup" she explained "we do not have beef it's only seafood", and that was that. Then my daughter's miso soup accidentally spills when I took her food. So I go back and explained what happened and ask the lady if she can give me a little more soup in my existing bowl? She says "$2 and I say "I am not asking for a whole new bowl" and then adds it's your fault you spilled it? (I would have been fine if she just left it at "sorry it's going to be $2", but that was uncalled for)".

Yelp
I decided to call the store to ask a question about a certain type of noodles that I wanted to buy, and the lady on the phone was very rude and said "I do not have time to tell you what flavors or what noodles we have so come to store if you wanna know what noodles we have" and the i was like like "excuse me, can you just please tell me or I can even go on hold for a bit" and then she was like no you heard me OK OK bye-bye" very rude.

Yelp
I have been living in Oregon for over a year now and by far this $10 meal is the best thing I've eaten.

Yelp
I want to like this place. I really really do. and although I'm giving them just three stars, I know i'll still come back, but something is just off. the location is amazing. probably the largest asian market in the portland metro area(aside from the ones on 82nd) so they definitely have that going for them. i won't lie, i miss the zupans that used to be here, but since i have one closer to my apartment it doesn't affect me as much. the main thing to be noted here is how often things are mismarked. from vegetables(they charged my friend $4 for a single red pepper once) to the packaged ramen, i almost always go in and have to keep an eye on how they're charging me at checkout because something ends up being wrong. i will say they have a great fresh seafood selection if you're looking for crab or lobster. one of the few places you can find them alive & fresh around. their instant ramen selection is also amazing. so many kinds.. i try not to eat this often but it's nice to have such a selection when i'm craving a sodium filled instant noodle bowl. overall, this place is great for some things and not great for other things. pick and choose what you come here for & keep an eye on the scanner as they check you out so you're not getting overcharged.

Yelp
High prices compared to other Asian markets , be sure to check dishes as most have LEAD.. had to return to several after seeing the sticker. Very little to no customer service, employees don't appear happy to be working. All around it's an ok market but much better ones out there.

Yelp
Really fun and quirky store where you can find many cool Korean and other Asian groceries at a good price. Nice people as well.

Yelp
"Do you have shucked oysters?" "Yes!" Drove there. No shucked oysters! Don't know if ever had them because the "butcher" seemed to not speak English (American) very well. Waste of time for me. Not my first choice for anything.

Yelp
This H-mart is only using the name and isn't part of the h-mart chain. The food is not fresh and their side dishes go bad before the sell-by dates. I would avoid buying any perishables from this h-mart. Would recommend g-mart for all perishable needs and I come here for snacks and quick grocery trips.

Yelp
I'm not even sure how to begin. H Mart on Pacific Hwy is an Asian grocery w a lot of space but over the years, it seems like they're selling fewer goods and there's a lot of ...empty, unutilized space. It's like they've given up. I'm writing this review as a memo to my future self really. We've been disappointed by: The Thai food inside (I'll write another review when I get the chance because it is likely independently owned) If you're into sugary Thai you'll like it. It tastes like they've dumped a cup of sugar into every dish. The bakery We've gotten a strawberry cream bday cake that was so dry that I was embarrassed about getting it for my family. It was 30 bucks and I wondered w barely visible strawberries in the filling and cake that tasted like it sat out for a week...what was I paying for? I'll update if we do try other goods in the future but my fav grocery store in the area has got to be uwajimaya from 20 years ago.
