Total disappointment.
I came back to Hà Vieux-Montreal with high hopes, remembering how amazing their pad Thai was a few years ago. Back then, the sauce had depth—the perfect balance of tamarind tang, palm sugar and fish sauce. Shrimp were stir-fried into the dish, flavors were layered, and everything was delicious.
Not anymore.
This time, there was no tamarind flavor at all—just a blunt, overpowering saltiness from fish sauce. The shrimps were battered and thrown on the side like an afterthought. The pork had no flavor. The noodles were soggy. None of the ingredients blended together. If this dish were an ECG, it’d be a third-degree AV block: the components were there, but completely disconnected. Its presentation was also poor.
Even the bao my friend ordered was dry and disappointing. She needed an entire bottle of water just to get through it.
I don’t know if the cook left or if there’s a new owner, but whatever magic Hà used to have is gone. Sadly, never again.
