I’ve been coming to Häagen-Dazs for a long time and usually have great experiences, but today I witnessed a really uncomfortable situation that I feel needs to be addressed.
A customer became extremely angry and started yell at a female worker who was very kindly explaining why her milkshake came without toppings. (This customer was asked if she wanted toppings and told the cashier no and then proceeded to throw this tantrum because of her own mistake)
The worker calmly told her she could remake it or add whipped cream, and politely mentioned that normally there’s a 50-cent charge. Instead of accepting that, the customer got even more upset, demanded free toppings, and complained that it was the holidays as if that justified treating someone poorly.
This customer greeted this situation like a child throwing a tantrum
I honestly felt so bad for the worker. She handled the situation with so much patience, care, and respect, and was genuinely sweet and apologetic the entire time despite being yelled at. Not once did she raise her voice, instead walked away with tears in her eyes because this customer couldn’t afford 50 cents and expected this business to cater to her needs instead of accepting the workers following the expectations and procedures they are trained for. I want to say I’m sorry she had to go through that — no one deserves to be treated that way, especially when they’re doing their job correctly and kindly.
I’ve been coming to this location for years, and this worker is *always* extremely nice no matter what time I come in. That’s why I expect the owner/management to handle situations like this with respect for their employees. The customer was clearly in the wrong.
If employees who consistently treat customers well aren’t supported, you won’t just lose them — you’ll lose loyal customers too. I don’t want to take my business elsewhere, but if workers aren’t protected, I’ll gladly spend my money at Dairy Queen instead.
Please stand up for your staff. They deserve it. Especially after a situation like this when I see this worker almost everyday here, an automated message apologizing for the employees behavior is a disgusting response when she did what I’d expect you would want. Reading more down I see more reviews about Dayc and They are all good. Also would like to say that this customer stood by store after harassing and taking photos without consent.
