A Piece of Cuba
I love Cuban food but it’s very hard to find in the Bay Area
Habana Express is a Pleasant Hill gem located in a strip mall with a plethora of dining options
Their signature is their classic Cuban sandwiches. While they serve dishes like ropa viejo, tamales and Cuban pastries, it’s really the sandwiches that are the star
They’re made fresh to order (about 10 minutes) but well worth the wait. I ordered a side of yucca fries as well
The Cubano is their most popular sandwich and consists of roasted pork, Swiss cheese, ham, pickles, mayo and mustard
It’s finished on a griddle and the melty cheese and savory meats are a fantastic combo. Really enjoyed my lunch here and wish we had one on the Peninsula
