Best Cocktail Bars Near San Jose and the South Bay | Eater SF

"Haberdasher is the first subterranean bar on this list, and stepping inside feels like dipping into the last century. Red is everywhere – walls, bar stools, curtains – setting a slightly cabaret, vintage mood. Order its signature summertime cocktail, Watermelon Waltz, from one of their 1920s-dapper bartenders and get ready for a simple but perfectly refreshing mix of gin, citrus, housemade watermelon syrup (garnished with a fresh slice of watermelon). If you want something more limited edition, try the Year of the Snake, which is inspired by 2025’s Chinese zodiac and blends rum, PX sherry, five spice bitters, fig, and lime. Prefer the classics? Moscow Mule, Old Fashioned, Gin and Tonic, Paloma, and White Linen are all ready to pour on tap. Fair warning: come early on weekends, as this basement becomes a popular one." - Laura Zhang

This place was excellent. Cocktails were top notch. Accommodated a large party late. Service was at the bar which some might not like but I like talking to the people making the drinks

Google
Our drinks were amazing and we loved our bartender. She would give you samples to make sure you liked the drink she created before you committed. She would also get to know your taste and recommend drinks. Best drinks we had downtown all night.

I wouldn’t call this hidden or a speakeasy because it’s easily accessible from the street. Although there’s no name on the outside, just a logo of a hat and tie. For sure speakeasy vibe. The servers are all dressed in true Haberdasher theme with a measuring tape around their neck. Inside has the dim underground lighting. We stopped for one drink and I couldn’t make up my mind. So many great choices. We got Pagoda and Putter Up. The Pagoda has the green basil drops that almost look like mold!..haha very tasty. The Putter Up was with scotch. Too strong for me. They have tables, booths and high top tables. There’s a glass case in the back full of high end premium spirits. You can join $25 monthly membership to get 5 rare tastings a month.

Google
This is our favorite spot! We've been here plenty of times and I wonder how I haven't written a review. This place is fantastic; from its vibe to their cocktails to their incredible service. We come here for date nights and special occasions and it hasn't let us down. My favorites include the Mango Tango and Tally Me Banana but recently learned that although I'm not a huge fan of coffee flavors, the Back in Black is also amazing. If you love craft cocktails, you can't go wrong here. The downstairs going into dark lighting and red walls really add a nice touch to a date night as well.

Favorites: Born Again Cajun & Kodak moment. Hidden gem in downtown San jose. It is an absolutely amazing cocktail bar. It is an underground place and has exotic drinks. A couple of tips: they don't have food, just some nuts as snacks, and they check every single person ID.

Google
They don’t serve food here. Just some chips. Love their cocktails. The mixologists are well trained and very knowledgeable. If you tell what kind of drink you like, they will custom make it for you. Even the bouncers are friendly, respectful and recommend great drinks!! Must visit, recommend 💯

Google
Nice bourbon selection. Bartenders are friendly and fun with interesting chit chat when they have time. Great place to chill and embrace the Kentucky hug.

Google
The bartenders and very friendly! They do flavor profiling and made drinks for me that weren't on their seasonal menu, which changes every 4 months. If you have a liquor base you'd like to try thats not on the menu, ask the bartender and she can make some off-menu cocktails that take into account your base and preferences. She even offered to remake my favorite cocktail I once had in Brazil, which I never thought id be able to try again. Earlier in the evening is a great time to go if you want a chiller evening with quiet music. Later in the night they turn the music up with the crowds. Go at the time that appeals! Each cocktail is $17, so its easy to estimate how much you'll spend.

Yelp
Friendly staff and good drinks equals fantastic bar. Haberdasher has taken the spot of my favorite bar in San Jose. I'm not sure what was there before... but it's now Haberdasher. The first impression was fantastic, with a bouncer that was extremely friendly, polite, but still on top of things (saw someone get unfortunately denied entry due to an expired license...) . So be prepared. They do card here and won't make exceptions. Once inside, I appreciated the speakeasy atmosphere and also the fact that the music was not too loud. The vibe was there, but you can still talk with your friends. Bartenders were also extremely friendly and made great suggestions for drinks that ultimately became tasty cocktails. My guess is that you probably have to make a reservation for weekends, but on a weeknight, it was perfect spot to walk in for a few drinks. I look forward to returning.

Yelp
I have never been to Haberdasher... but I want to go now after reading Cache's responses to the "keyboard warriors" on Yelp. You sir, are AMAZING! Thank you for checking these "elitist" who "weaponize" their reviews to hurt what sounds like a phenomenal establishment and even better staff. The next time I am in the area, I will be visiting your fine establishment. Thank you Cache! We need more people like you in this world my friend. And lastly, thank you for your service! Much appreciated.

Yelp
This bar is the cutest underground hideaway. It's got the whole speakeasy thing going on but without the "I'm too cool for this" vibe. Think casual, not cocktail snobbery. The bartender was an absolute legend. Not only did he share his favorite drinks, but he also asked about our flavor preferences like he was a licensed cocktail therapist. Every drink was a hit, and the chocolate flip was my favorite. Bottom line: this bar is a gem, and the cocktails are the kind that make you want to text all your exes just to tell them how good your life is now.

Yelp
I almost walked by even as my friend was guiding us to the bar. It's very elegant/cute. Lots of seating and space. Nice (louder than expected) music playing. The Asian bartender reminds me of an anime Bartender Glass of God, they just look like they're in the zone and the drinks are amazing. I'm normally not a mixed drink type of person since I dislike the taste of alcohol (still want it to be a properly made drink) but it tasted like a dessert and I finally understand why people like mixed drinks. Everyone working here was really nice, helpful and professional. Perfect way to end the night or take someone on a date.

Yelp
We went there for drinks after dinnertime and were glad to found out it's not too busy on a Friday night which is nice because we were a group of five. We soon got a table and ordered at the bar (mostly self-service). The cocktails were sweet, rich and flavorful, with a well-balanced amount of alcohol - It's more on the side of American cocktail style for me. There are seats by the wall, high round table along the side, and some sofa seating booths, creating an old-school, casual, warm dimly lit ambience. If I can recall, the place began filling up around 7-8pm that day.

Yelp
Came here with a group of friends on the recommendation from one of them who grew up in the area and still resides in SJ. If you're planning a visit on a Friday or Saturday, you'll want to try to secure reservations. Upon walking down the stairs, past the bar, and into the seating area, you will see a sign pointing you to the left for no reservations seating and the slightly larger section to the right side are for parties with a reservation. Stopped on through on an early Friday evening last month(with reservations) and the first thing I noticed is they're in an underground layout with red walls, red curtains and a dimly lit vibe. Fun fact, my friend told me he used to come here back in the day, when there was break-dancing going on in this same physical spot. They have some cocktails 'on tap'. I tasted their Old Fashioned and Paloma and they were not quite right for me. I ended up with a crafted Old Fashioned and later in the evening, finished myself off with their Dublin Down(Irish Whiskey, apricot). Both drinks were solid. The staff was friendly, and helpful in assisting some of the hard decisions that were made that evening.

Yelp
Wonderful cocktail bar, drinks were the best we had all night. Service was solid and everyone was helpful given they were likely understaffed. Ambiance is nice and the hat theme is very cute. I would definitely come back. This place was chosen strictly off Yelp reviews, but because of this I believe it was a great choice. Sesame peanuts were absolutely fantastic I have no idea where they got those from but I could eat them forever. Cocktails were great fresh green, sweet and savory, really have never had anything like it.

Yelp
Came in on a Thursday evening. Solid drinks - my favorite of the evening was "Tally Me Banana". Great atmosphere and setup. Friendly staff too. Will definitely come back by when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Every time my partner and I are in downtown San Jose, he always mentions Harberdasher and how he so badly wants to check out their drinks. Fast forward almost a year later, we finally made it a mission to come out and drink here. It's a speakeasy bar where you go down some stairs and enter a red, dimly lit room. There are open table seats for those without reservations and a closed off booth seating area for those with rezzies. Harberdasher has amazing bartenders as well as seasonal drinks. There were certain drinks I ordered based off what the menu had said ingredients were (Sweet 'Stache), and it did not taste like what I was hoping. I have had drinks with similar ingredients but Harberdasher's take on it was just not my palette. And...... Unfortunately, they gave us the wrong credit card when we checked out. When we tried to call, no one picked up so we were unsure if our card was still there. We had to come back at the end of our night and just hoped our credit card was still there, which it was. (whew!!) Worth coming in and tasting their drinks. Just double check you get the right CC at the end of the night.

Yelp
Very fun bar but know it's gets very busy Fri-Sun night (thought I feel like this is expected of a bar)! Totally reminded me of a Barcelona speakeasy. All of their drinks were great, and I especially recommend the Watermelon Waltz (gin) and their peanut butter shot (though this was seasonal so may not be there by the time you go)

Yelp
Haberdasher is definitely a Downtown SJ staple! If you're visiting for the first time I would recommend booking a reservation. Especially during the weekends or evenings as it gets pretty busy! A great date location as well - not too loud & great for conversation, the vibe is great too! You can also be as casual or fancy you want to be. Im an old fashion snob and Haberdasher ALWAYS does it right here. It's all in the ice. The girls that get, get it. The change the menu every now and then. However, they have over 100(?...I think it might be more? Or less?) in the back of their pockets! So if you tell the them what you're craving and thinking, they'll customize it for you. Also....there isn't any food here. Except some chips. So BEWARE. Do not come to this place with an empty stomach. Otherwise you'll end up like me....drunk after 2 cocktails. Ha!

Yelp
TLDR: Amazing speakeasy offering great cozy ambience, specialized (seasonal) cocktail and great bar personnel! Been wanting to try the place for a while but we're always discouraged with the wait times during peak hours. Eventually tried Haberdasher for a Date Night (went in early in the evening and there was absolutely no wait) during the Holidays and they had such a wonderful atmosphere with their red curtains and warm lamps. Their seasonal warm drinks were great - not too sweet and just the right amount of hot to enjoy without burning your tongue. Highly recommended for a nice evening.

Yelp
Super cute speakeasy located in DTSJ! I have never heard of this bar until my friend brought it up to me and I was intrigued by it. There's no name of the bar outside of the building so when we arrived, I was confused because I thought it was the wrong place. When we arrived at 8:45 PM on a Friday night, there was already a long line out the door but luckily my friend had a reservation and we were able to be seated promptly. The bar is actually downstairs and you're immediately greeted with vintage gentleman decor from the 1920s-1930s. It was super spacious indoors and even if you didn't have a reservation, there was plenty of standing and sitting space and I loved how it didn't feel crowded at all. The reservations area is blocked off and there were plenty of tables and seats for everybody. It's definitely a nice spot to catch up with some friends and even a date night. The drinks I tried were really pleasant! Though they were on the pricey side of cocktails, I thoroughly enjoyed mine. My cocktail was from the Maui Relief Fund category which if you ordered from that list, they'll donated their proceeds to Maui which I loved. My friend ordered a creamy & milk like drink which I enjoyed more than mine since it reminded me so much of a milk candy I had when I was a child. Overall, I would definitely come back here again and I'm glad to have been introduced to this spot.

Yelp
Came here right after a concert at the Ritz and the cocktails are so good! We ordered the Watermelon Waltz and Mango Tango. Drinks are in the $15~ range. I don't go to the bars often because I don't like the taste of alcohol, but the workers here recommended me some great drinks based on my preferences! Shoutout to Matthew because he was really friendly and nice! I ordered the Watermelon Waltz per his recommendation. The ambience here is pretty cozy and intimate. It's a type of place where you want to sit down with friends, chat & drink. This my second time here and I'd come back if I'm in the area.

Yelp
One of the best environments to enjoy a drink connect with people there and those you bring. Classic underground vibes with knowledgeable bar keeps!!

Yelp
Okkkkk I see you now! Been a cool 6 years since I've been back. Menu has changed and I'm sure it's changed many a time before. Drinks were all great this time and loved the risk/creativity on some of em. Hello hielo and Mando tango are nice fruity and slightly creamy/frothy safer choices. Tried the primavera as well. Also good, not my cup of tea but def well made. My favorite would have to be the sunomono. Tastes delicious and one of the most unique drinks out there! Literally kinda tastes like a Japanese sesame salad. I've been to many cocktail bars and you won't find that anywhere. Sweet stache was really interesting. Also a lil funky. Def try it if you're looking for like a Turkish delight flavor in a drink. Overall, haberdasher has made a believer out of me and I'll def be back!

Yelp
What a cute spot!!! I came here last night with a friend and it was my first time there. Everyone was so sweet! From the bouncer to the bartenders, every employee was super kind and friendly. Most of my experiences with bars usually involve a rude bouncer, but the one that was working last night was so sweet and made conversation with us while we were waiting to enter. The drinks were pretty good too! It was pretty crowded last night when we came around 10pm, so there was usually just a bit of a wait to place an order, but the bartenders made all the drinks really quick! Drinks: Penny Popper: 5/5! My favorite of the night! I actually ended up getting 2 of these because they were so good. You can definitely taste the alcohol, but it wasn't too strong. Mango Tango: 3/5! I feel like it sounded great on the menu but tasted just ok! I think the cream liqueur threw me off a bit, it was just more sour than I thought it would be. Gin & Rose Tonic: 4/5! I think my mistake was getting this towards the end of my drinking, would definitely recommend getting it first! Very clean tasting, but I couldn't really taste the rose in it. Holly Berry: 4/5! Nice and herbal, but the herbal notes were a bit overpowering for me personally. Not too strong though and definitely a nice level of sweetness. Dark Hymn Black Sour Ale: (Disclaimer: I'm not a beer/ale person!) 2/5 for me personally, but my friend liked it more than I did! It definitely smelled like chocolate and tasted a bit fruitier than other ales do, but I still wouldn't recommend it to someone that's maybe not fond of ale even though it sounded nice on the menu!

Yelp
Was pretty lively on a Saturday and was surprised to see the holiday menu is still up in January! You view the menu online through a QR code and order at the bar. Tables are open seating if they are available but plenty of standing bar tops throughout the room. Music is a little bit on the loud side, so may be hard to have conversations but nothing that bothered me. I got the Holly Berry and it was nice and refreshing. If the menu is still up next time I go, I definitely want to try the pumpkin spice espresso martini!
google avatar

Supriya L.

Yelp
I tried the Kodak moment and watermelon waltz. Both the drinks were amazing! Loved the ambience and location!
google avatar

Yelp
Head downstairs down the red stairs and there you will find what feels like an underground bar decked in red. I can't tell if this bar is always red but we went during the Christmas season. They had a special Christmas drink menu and I tried the pumpkin spice espresso martini and the holly berry. The pumpkin spice tasted like Starbucks with vodka lol and the holly berry legit tasted like I was drinking a fizzy Christmas tree. Both were delicious. Their gin and tonics are very weak though I tasted more tonic than gin. Avoid that at all cost. Overall cute and hidden bar, they have seating even if you didn't reserve a table which is nice. It doesn't get overly rowdy and it's more just a chill fun environment with friends.

Yelp
Huge fan of this spot! We came for a quick drink before a musical on Saturday. The entry way seemed kind of sketch at first lol but it totally adds to the whole speakeasy vibe (even though this isn't a speakeasy). All the bartenders were top notch especially the first gal who helped us, i didn't get her name but she was helping out behind the bar and at the tables and had a man bun type of hairdo! Anyway, drinks were yummy, I'd say prices are pretty average of what you can expect to pay for a craft cocktail. We would definitely plan on returning when back in downtown SJ!
google avatar

Candice K.

Yelp
Cool hidden spot in downtown San Jose! I made reservations online for a Friday night and when I arrived at 10:00pm, there was a pretty long line. But with a reservation, you don't have to wait and they take you right in. You follow a staircase down to the bar and with reservations, you get a table. You order drinks at the bar which can take a little bit of time if it's crowded. Drinks were very reasonably priced, great selection of cocktails, I saw some beers were as low as like $3-4?!?! Plus a really awesome selection of whiskys - check out the cabinet they have in the back with their selection - lots of rare stuff. Awesome bartenders and staff as well!

Yelp
I can't believe I didn't get a single picture of the absolutely amazing drinks we had here. Everything I tried was absolutely delicious, even the drinks with liquors I don't usually like. I tried the Penny Popper, it packed a punch and I could definitely taste the pisco but it was delicious and such an adorable drink. Despite being on the smaller side I don't think having the drink being any larger would have been a positive, I think it would have been a little much so I think it was the perfect portion. The Moscow Mules were also amazing and, while tiny, they were delicious and super gingery. However, the star of the night for me was the Sunomono. It was such an incredible drink that tasted like I was really eating a sunomono salad. The umami flavor was outstanding and it is officially my favorite drink in the world. We did notice that the only food was different nut assortments so make sure you grab a bite before coming here, especially if you have a nut allergy! As for the space, it's cozy, a little romantic, warm, and fully feels like you stepped in a time machine to an incredible speakeasy. We were lucky that the rain kept things a little slower so it wasn't insanely packed but I can only imagine how crazy it can get! The service was quick and it seems like they really have things streamlined behind the bar since the drinks seemed partially pre-made so everything came out fast and perfect! The servers walking around were quick and attentive with picking up finished glasses and overall it was an amazing night. This is by far my favorite bar in San Jose, I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This place is actually amazing. Downtown SJ can seem too generic and bland, but this little basement bar has personality and vibes for days! Great cocktails and the care is obvious. Draft cocktails have been making inroads even here in the craft cocktail industry, and I am here for it. I wasn't sure, but even when busy the cocktails are quick and on point every time! I prefer whiskey cocktails and the selection here is next level. The app for the menu is a bit... meh, but I guess so. The ambience is older and deeper cultured city than the surrounding buildings and that met me like a warm embrace and the memories of Chicago and New York embraced me and made the experience even better.

Yelp
Came to Haberdasher for the first time while a friend was in town for the holidays. It was my first time and having to wait 10pm to get in was well worth it. I love the dim lighting and the overall atmosphere. It's very a very cozy and intimate place to sit down with friends, enjoy a few drinks, and catch up. I love me an espresso martini, but my fiancé grabbed the Cafe Monte and it was definitely a new favorite of mine. Looking forward to coming back here with more friends to enjoy a nice night out.

Yelp
Been coming here since it was Singlebarrel. Still one of my favorite bars in DTSJ. I always try to come early to avoid the wait. Great drinks and great ambience.
google avatar

Autumn R.

Yelp
First of all, the staff is so kind and pleasant really making the experience more enjoyable. The cocktails are fire!!! Love this place. I would suggest making reservations, they get really busy and there's always a line we get to skip when we have reservations.
google avatar

Purnendu K.

Yelp
The bar needs to work on their cleanliness.. they have some kind of egg based cocktail, all the utensils and glassware including cocktail glasses, water glasses etc. smell like eggs. Ambiance is below average.
google avatar

Shao-Lon Y.

Yelp
This place is as close as you can get to an authentic speakeasy experience in San Jose. It's a hidden hole in the wall that you get to by walking down a dimly lit staircase that opens up to a lively, but classy, small bar. The interior is decorated with red curtains and lanterns and really gives the place a 1920s vibe. The drinks here are amazing! The flavors are diverse and a lot of them cover up the burning taste of alcohol while leaving the complexity of a nice liquor. My favorite drink is the Matcha Flip. All of the flips here are delicious and creamy, but the Matcha Flip literally tastes like a matcha latte. I also enjoy the warm cocktails here, like the Tom & Jerry (available during the holiday season) which tasted like a spiced hot chocolate. The bartenders are also super nice! They're very friendly and talkative and can make custom drinks that suit your taste. I always get one off the menu drink because I like the surprise, and I haven't been disappointed yet.

Yelp
I sampled most of the winter menu. here's the run-down: 4.9: Beer Flip. Rum, whole egg, sugar, dark beer. The dark beer lends the perfect bitterness to the rum. 4.6: Paloma, on tap. tequila, agave, grapefruit soda. Good, but the flavor could be bolder. Good value batched cocktail. 4.5: Sweet Stache. Singani 63, bergamot, pistachio orgeat, whole egg. Good flip, not too heavy. 4.5: Groundskeeper. Scotch, Aperol, grenadine. Great balance of boozy scotch and modifier. 4.4: Putter up. Good scotch / passionfruit highball topped with soda, but must stir it to get the right flavor. 4.3: Mango tango: Good mango flavor. 4.2: Tally me banana: Flavor is a little flat. 4.2: Kodak moment. Good balance between mezcal and passionfruit 3.5: Christmas Graham:. The cream cheese flavor is not for everyone. 3.2: Holly berry: Heavy on the cranberry and ginger beer. Cannot taste the Terroir gin or Suze. 3.2: Sunomono: Interesting savory Highball, but not for everyone. 3.1: Penny Popper. A straightforward sour. Not enough Pisco comes through. Here are my highest ranked drinks from previous menus. They can often make these: 4.9: Orchard Sour: Cognac, apricot, cinnamon, lemon 4.9: The Fall-Back: Laird's AppleJack, lemon, ginger beer. 4.8: The Idylewild is an excellent cobbler; it has a sour cherry note. 4.8: Mexican Chocolate Flip: Spiced rum, Tia maria, chocolate bitters, whole egg 4.7: East India Daiquiri: Batavia Arrack, Canton Ginger, pimento dram 4.7: Zihuatanejo: Mezcal, white vermouth, rosemary, lemon. 4.7: The basil gimlet is excellent. They use Junipero gin.

Yelp
I came here again and tried to do a reservation this time. It was a good idea since when we got there, there was a considerable line to get in. However, something went wrong and the reservation didn't actually get through (not sure if it was Yelp or what, I didn't get a confirmation email, which I didn't know I would get). They were nice enough to get us in even though they were so busy. It was nice to see that the menu had some new drinks after just a month. I got the Kildalton Cure, which is kind of similar to a hot toddy. It was pretty strong, but didn't burn too bad, and this is coming from someone who doesn't really drink whiskey. My boyfriend got the hot chocolate, which I thought was really good. He ended getting another drink, custom made by the bartender, that was kind of like a pina colada but much more pineapple forward. All the drinks they made were great, and the workers are so nice and accommodating. I think I will be a regular at this point!

Yelp
Love this place!! Drinks, staff everything!!! Reserve a table if you can. The "old fashion" is the best!!

Yelp
Lovely speakeasy style bar. Great drinks with excellent bartenders. It was my first time here and there was a bit of a wait, but it was worth it. If you prefer having a table, you definitely need to make a reservation in advance. Your reservation expires within 15' of the reservation time just fyi. We were at the bar seating and loved it! I will surely be coming back for more great drinks!

Yelp
This place is straight out of a book and or movie, really cool setting! The drinks go hand in hand, everything from the food to the cocktails are all curated so perfectly and the service is top notch and very helpful when it comes to deciphering which cocktail(s) you may like most.

Yelp
What an amazing experience! Our group of 10 randomly found Haberdasher online and wanted to give it a try. They were able to accommodate us for "standing room" only but it worked out great! We went early, so our wait was very minimal. Due to the Halloween weekend, the bar was Stranger Things theme. The decor was so cute and added to the overall ambience of the bar. They had a smoke machine as you walk in, a special menu, and decor around the entire bar. If you are looking for an underground, speakeasy experience, you have to try Haberdasher! The lighting is dim, the drinks are bougie, and the bathrooms are clean! The syrups are made in house which adds a unique touch to this bar. Our favorite part was our incredible bartender Kaitlyn (I may have misspelled that). She has been working here for 8 years and her service could not be beat! She worked great with our large group and helped us get out of our comfort zone with new drinks. We would not have enjoyed our experience if it wasn't for Kaitlyn. Will I be back? I sure hope so!

Yelp
After dinner, we decided to stop by for some drinks and were pleasantly surprised to see that the place wasn't too crowded for a Friday night, which worked out well for our group of five. We quickly found seating and took our orders at the bar, where we enjoyed the mostly self-service setup. The cocktails we tried were a delightful mix of sweet and rich flavors, with just the right amount of alcohol - leaning towards the American style of cocktails in my opinion. The ambiance of the place was cozy and inviting, with seating options ranging from wall seats to high round tables and comfy sofa booths, all contributing to a nostalgic and laid-back atmosphere. I noticed that the crowd started picking up around 7-8pm that evening.

Yelp
Second time and it was another good time! Even though it was a busy night in downtown SJ, very short line to get into Haberdasher. Gotten the Moscow mule in the past for the souvenir cup that you get to keep and take home, very good choice. Can't go wrong. Tried some other drinks like the Watermelon Waltz and the Penny Popper which were on the sweeter end. They have a decent amount of seating for small groups of 2, to areas that can seat 6 comfortably. Good spot if you're seeking a nice low light, low key and chill environment.

Yelp
Amazing ambience and service at Haberdasher! It's a very cozy and intimate environment which is great for a date night or to catch up with friends. I tried the Mango Tango and it had a great flavor, would get it again. The servers are amazing as well & had recommendations based on what you were looking for. I loved the Royal Hawaiian!

Yelp
This is my regular spot downtown. Always making an effort to come here as they keep changing the menu and making new drinks. Especially love coming here during the winter months where they create new drinks just for this season that you can only get once a year. This year was the Christmas Graham. Absolutely loved it. Everybody here just makes it fun to hang out.

Yelp
WOW!! What a gem. The drinks were delicious and very reasonably priced here. Go there early as it seems to get busy later on. If you can't decide what you like, ask the bartender Jean for recommendations. I really enjoyed the Fall 75 - but it was a bit light on the alcohol, so she made me something similar but a bit more spirit forwarded.

Yelp
My initial visit, and the Christmas-themed beverages brought a lively touch to the warm ambiance. The inventive combination of holiday flavors in their cocktails provided a delightful experience. I particularly suggest trying the pumpkin spice espresso martini and Tom & Jerry. The attentive staff and charming decor contributed to the festive atmosphere, making it an excellent spot to enjoy distinctive seasonal drinks throughout the holidays!

Yelp
It's so close to me but I never new! On the outside, it's an unsuspecting door that leads you down to their speakeasy bar. Their ambience is loud but still provides an intimate atmosphere if you're in the reserved seating. Reservations ahead of time are great! We were seated immediately to a prepared table and area on Saturday night! Known for their gimlets, the bar had a wide variety of specialty cocktails and gimlet flavors! It was interesting to try the vibrant and flavorful drinks that balanced well with the alcohol. Also, if you order a Moscow mule, you can take the copper cup home with you! The Moscow mule was well balanced and great! I especially loved their Kodak Moment. It was definitely pretty and refreshing! The Kodak moment had a sweet and fruity flavor. The sunomomo was also refreshing as it used cucumber notes. It tasted closer to a gin and tonic, meaning not very sweet and balanced with the alcohol. The ginger La Reza was so good! I loved the bite of actual ginger and it was just a bit sweet too. For a final drink of our night, I couldn't decide what to get. So the bartender offered to make me an additional fruity cocktail! It was so delicious and I would definitely recommend coming on a less-busy day to enjoy personalized cocktail recommendations and creations from the bartenders. I would love to come again and show new friends around here! I loved the energy and drinks. Definitely still a good place to sit, talk, and enjoy the company!

Yelp
I have gone to Haberdasher a number of times, and this review is pretty overdue I would say. Haberasher is a specialty cocktail bar. You come here to get fancy cocktails, ones that you can tell a lot of thought went into their creation. The cocktails here are always amazing, and the bartenders are all friendly. The atmosphere is pretty cozy with booth seating and dim lighting. And if there isn't something on the menu that catches your eye, the bartenders are happy to whip up a specialty cocktail that you may enjoy with some basic parameters given! It is one of my favorite bars in the area and definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Haberdasher is located conveniently next to a paid parking lot so if it's not busy you can park right across the street. You'll see an awning with a door and head on down. Starts getting fuller the later in the night it gets. Walk ins are first come first serve and Bar top order only. Come as you want, the dress code is pretty casual overall. Lots of people coming in after work or just to enjoy the night. Started off with a glass of EH Taylor with a nice big clear ice cube. V clear ice as it should be. Then had a couple cock tails (Tick Toki and Stargazer). As a sweet cocktail guy, I enjoyed Tick Toki. Stargazer was a little too cinnamony for my taste but it was mixed well. Bartenders are great here and really every drink is well done-- just depends on what you like. I enjoyed this place as it wasn't too crowded, the bartenders and staff were friendly and not stand-offish like some places like this can be, and the drinks were well done!

Yelp
Fantastic place to try out new cocktails. Speak to any of the barkeeps in regard to the things that you would love-all things liquor and they will make you magic. Beware the drinks are pretty strong. Reservations are best.

Yelp
We went her a couple weeks ago to have a few cocktails before seeing a comedian at the Improv. I did make reservations about a week and a half in advance. It was for Saturday night but we wanted to get there early so 5pm was open. When we walked up, it's very discreet but there's a cute little sign hanging with their little hat and tie logo. You wouldn't know it was a bar during the day. Once it opened, a gentleman came out and set up a little rope to line up. There was already 8ish people waiting. 3 of the 4 groups waiting also had reservations. Walking down is cool, it's definitely dark at first but once you acclimatize, the lighting is nice. It's got like a speakeasy vibe, but I was also getting a little vampire bar vibe with lots of red velvet but I think that's just me being that person lol. The gentleman at the host stand told us which table was ours but asked if we would be staying long as there was a table with a little more room that was open until 6:30. I told him we'd definitely be gone by then since we had plans so we were able to sit at the roomier table which was nice that he offered. We ordered two drinks off the menu that weren't anything we've really had before. I had the Kodak Moment and my husband had the Kildalton Cure. My drink was great but my husband wasn't really feeling his. It kind of reminded us of like an alcoholic theraflu. Which honestly makes sense for the description of the drink and would be tasty under the right circumstances, but he just didn't like it. He ended up pushing that aside and ordered their draft IPA. The beer was great, really crisp finish. We didn't have any intentions of sending it back, we made the choice on the drink, so no big deal. Our table was fairly close to the host stand and when he walked by and saw the drink to the side, he asked if we didn't like it. We said yeah, and he said he'd take it off the bill and asked if we wanted something else. The whole interaction was perfectly handled, he was so polite about it that we didn't feel bad at all for not liking it. My husband also asked about their complementary portable chargers. They just asked to hold onto a credit card and ID in exchange, but it's totally free and it was easy to swap back once we were leaving. We were told to order our drinks at the bar and did that the first round but it would go though lulls so the gentleman who was at the host stand was also clearing glasses and took our order for a second drink. He also makes drinks as he helped when we were waiting to order our first drink and the main bartender was busy. This guy just does it all! My husband got a second beer and I got a Moscow Mule. Best Moscow Mule I've ever had, their ginger beer had a great kick. PLUS, you get to keep the little copper cup. It's adorable and I wanted to order another one just so we'd have a matching pair at home. I didn't cause I don't really need more cups but it's been a fan favorite in the kitchen since I brought it home. All in all, I would definitely come here again if I was in downtown San Jose. I don't go there too often but I'm glad I know this place exists for a delicious craft cocktail and cool vibes.

Yelp
Wandered down into the Haberdasher on a Sunday night before going home to SoCal. When I first entered, it was rather pretty quiet and I wasn't getting much inviting vibes. The bar is quite small but seats were plenty on the Sunday evening I was there. I can say it would probably be a little intimidating coming here by yourself but once I got my first drink in, everything instantly changed for the better! I went with the Sunomono which is a gin and shochu mix that was quite refreshing to the taste! Decided to just stick to the bar and was going to leave after the drink but then all the locals started arriving. Met a few locals and ended up chatting the night away about our world travel experiences and I kept the gin drinks going all night! Ended up just having my bartendar Rebecca make me gin drinks per her recommendation and they were all well made. Did not disappoint and kept me staying until closing! If it wasn't for the locals chatting me up and keeping the party going all night--I think it would've just made it an okay experience as a solo bar hopping experience. Would recommend a table runner or a host to sit people and make this place a little more inviting. Just my two cents!

Yelp
Imo, the title for best cocktail bar in the San Jose Bay Area goes to Haberdasher. It's not even a fair comparison between the quality of cocktails offered on their seasonal menu and the service provided by the staff to other bars around the area. I can't say enough good things about this place, but I should note that the bar area is on the smaller side. So, either make your reservations in advance or come on a less busy night. Spring/Summer/Fall: Rose Less Traveled, Tik-toki, or an Old fashioned Winter: Irish coffee, Hot-buttered rum, Tom & Jerry

Yelp
I'm new the the area so don't judge if i say this is one of the best bars I've been to (so far). It's low key, hidden, and downstairs in a relaxed dark atmosphere. This is exactly what I look for in a bar. Not loud, bright. Drinks were pretty good, the staff had a nice attire that matched the atmosphere, and got the drinks pretty quick. They even let us keep the copper cups from the Moscow mules!

Yelp
I love Haberdasher, and go often. The people are wonderful and the ambiance is lovely. The speakeasy concept is low-key. On the noisy side, so be aware of that. But early in the night it's very comfortable. The bartenders are the best. I was NOT a cocktail drinker when I was introduced to Haberdasher. The bartenders get a little bit of information from you, and can recommend from a LONG list of ideas. But they narrow it to a couple of options so it's not overwhelming. Then they use highest-quality spirits and mixers to make the best version of the cocktail. I've now got quite a list of favorites, from Black Manhattan to 1794 to Black Lodge to Devil's Soul. I've learned SO MUCH. Don't just ask for your go-to. Make some new favorites.
