Yelp
The 5 star rating is for the food and service, but I have a separate issue that I wish to discuss further down in review).
Their falafel, honestly, I think is second to none for what I've had around SF. Maybe up there with some of the best I've ever had. It is absolutely delicious with a crunchy exterior and a soft, pillowy interior that melts in your mouth. A must-try! The hummus and pitas are superb, as well. I love their bowls - super delicious meld of contrasting flavors and textures, savory, creamy, sour, crunchy and spicy (if requested) and one of these typically fills me up to the brim.
My issue is with the map on the wall. It is a map of the country of Israel, except modern day cities like Tel Aviv and Haifa are erased and only listed in completely different Arabic names, which is not the modern names of those cities, and is problematic and can be extremely hurtful to many patrons. I wish the owner would consider taking it down, especially considering the political climate today. I truly appreciate Palestinian heritage and culture (perhaps a Palestinian flag?), but I was disappointed to see this.
I hesitated to bring up politics in a restaurant review, but I feel that the map is a hurtful political statement in and of itself, and hopefully the owner can understand how this can be seen as the erasure of an entire map of a country and why that is problematic.
The food is delicious! Try it. You will love it!
