Finally, a dining experience that is quintessential New York. Tucked away in the warehouse section of Bushwick, the restaurant is identified only by the neon address number above the door. You walk in toward the elevator and are greeted by service staff that hand you a glass of bubbly while you wait. Once you get off the elevator, you are then greeted by a host that leads you through a few dark hallways that eventually open up into a gorgeous, lively, glass-encased dining room with views of Brooklyn and the city in the distance. The people who work there are extremely good looking and it reminds me of old New York.
I came here for a friend's birthday with a large party. We were not given menus, but presented with options voiced over by a server: mezze for an appetizer, and for the main course, family style surf, turf, or surf & turf. Of course we opted for the mezze and surf & turf to get the full experience.
Most of the food was absolutely delicious with a few misses. I'm Greek, and the stuffed grape leaves were the worst I've ever had in my life - essentially inedible - and this is a hard dish to mess up. Also, they brought a bowl of ice to the table with a whole tomato plopped on top. We sat there in confusion for several minutes until finally a server came and cut the tomato in large, haphazard chunks tableside, drizzled it with high quality olive oil and sprinkled it with salt, and served it to us. It tasted good after that, but everyone knows tomatoes in the US are generally bad, especially compared to tomatoes in the Mediterranean, so the dish still didn't really land. Also, they served us lobster that wasn't cut open properly. The servers refused to help me and I immediately employed my native New England girl skills and fought to get it out. The lamb and all of the dips in the mezze were great, though.
Also have to note that the communication from the server could have been better. I'm multilingual and I hate bringing up stuff like this, but the server had a HEAVY accent, and since there are no menus and the dishes are read aloud to us, and since the restaurant is sufficiently noisy, this was a bit difficult to contend with.
The other thing that was unexpected - the bill. It was about $208 per person. We didn't really go crazy with the drinks and food ordering, so it was a surprise, especially since the food didn't exactly measure up.
I debated between 3 and 4 stars, but overall it was a cool experience, so I went with 4. I am not sure if I would come back here, but the restaurant is new and if they make the necessary corrections, they could have a great thing going.
