Kyoryori Hachisei

"Akiyuki Hasegawa learned from his mentor that good cooking comes from sincerity. His devotion to great dining is what sends him to the market every morning to check the ingredients. He constantly tinkers with his menu to ensure that guests can enjoy his fare no matter how many times they come. The appetisers are just as how his mentor prepared them. Meals end with takikomi-gohan (rice cooked together with other ingredients) because he loves its colourful appearance when he lifts the lid." - Michelin Inspector

Hachisei might’ve been the best meal my husband and I have ever had. We chose the 9 course set, and I’m so glad we did. Not only was the food wonderful and extremely creative, the experience was like nothing we have ever had in dining. We had a private room and an incredible host/server who treated us and the food with great respect. Everything was exceptional! I think that their menu is seasonal so may change often, but some highlights for us were: the sukiyaki, the mascarpone ice cream and fruit, the sea bream with salmon rice, and the sashimi. And after the meal, the chef personally greeted us! What an honor!

Amazing food, top notch service and an extremely welcoming atmosphere. Our reservation was for a set and each meal was unique and delicious with plenty of time to enjoy it before the next was served. This is the best restaurant I've been to by far, not only in Japan, but in America as well. As stated before, the staff are extremely friendly and will use a translation app to help you if you do not speak Japanese. I could not recommend it higher.

Hachisei restaurant in Kyoto offers an exquisite dining experience, especially notable for its delectable sushi and delightful desserts. The culinary journey was a palate-pleasing adventure. Although the menu is exclusively in Japanese, the friendly staff, despite limited English proficiency, is more than willing to assist. They go out of their way to help, and with the aid of tools like Google Translate, communication barriers can be overcome. Despite the language nuances, the exceptional quality of the food, combined with the warm and helpful staff, makes Hachisei a worthwhile destination for those seeking an authentic and flavorful dining experience in Kyoto.

This has been by far the best restaurant I’ve been in Japan (and that’s a lot to say!). The atmosphere is delicate and beautiful. The staff is amazing and attentive. The two cooks and the lady in a traditional suit were so nice and polite. They called someone on the phone who translated from japanese to english and back, I think it’s some kind of service. With that help we could order. To tell the truth, the place was do nice that we were afraid it would cost us a lot of money. The menu has the prices on and it’s translated to english, but we had doubts 😱. We ordered a shrimp and vegetables roll and two tempuras. We LOVED them. They invited us icecream for dessert. It costed us 3300 yens (round 30 dollars) but we would’ve ordered something else if we knew it wasn’t expensive!! We weren’t hungry, we were just in love with everything. Definitely a must!

Incredible food - everything was 10/10. Elegant in every way while not being ostentatious, the hospitality even extended past the front door. It was raining when we were departing, and the hostess and chef walked us to the door and insisted on giving us all umbrellas. Thank you for a great experience.

Wonderful dinner in the Kaiseki tradition. Beautifully prepared and presented by very charming and friendly hosts. 6.000 yen per person for 7 delicious courses.

The finest food we had in Japan. Traditional and tasty. The staff is lovely and helpful. Even though they don’t speak english you can easily order your food. They have pictures, an english menu and use online translation services.
