"Housed in a Spanish-style building, Hacienda de San Antonio features 25 suites adorned with traditional Mexican art across living rooms, fireplaces and balconies. You’ll love the Hacienda’s Wes Anderson-esque gardens, which grow most of the produce served at the hotel. Guests have the choice between garden, river and volcano views for their rooms, which are all individually designed. Activities available on-site include horseback riding, tennis, mountain biking and coffee-making tours."

Hacienda de San Antonio

"Why did this hotel catch your attention? What's the vibe?Getting to this pink palace hidden deep in Colima's verdant tropical cloud forest was a feat. And part of the adventure. The colonial coffee plantation offers a slice of Mexican luxury you don't find elsewhere, with Jaguar basalt stone carved canals, pools with volcano views, and breezy loggias and courtyards offering space for all. What's the backstory? This is an independently owned property and has a sister property on the coast, Cuixmala. Opulent and muy romantico. Tell us all about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book?Volcanic stone and ceramic floor terrace with big poster beds and fireplaces. French doors open to a terrace, and bright colored textiles remind you you're in Mexico. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at?Don't come here for tacos. Colima is known for its abundance of vegetables and fruits, like citrus and avocados—many of which are grown on the property's Rancho Jabalí. The more subtle Mexico mountain cuisine steers away form typical Mexican food, and offered less spicy plates of meat. Juices were aplenty. And the service?Service was spartan, and not necessary to enjoy the stay. It's a pretty straightforward property in terms of what it offers, so it was better to explore and discover the estate than be hand held by staff. What type of travelers will you find here?I was the only guest while there! It felt like my own dreamy private villa. What about the neighborhood? Does the hotel fit in, make itself part of the scene? It's very isolated with not much around, except chacalacas and jaguars prowling the cloud forest, so you do want to stay on property and experience what the hotel can do—and watch the volcano puff away from a poolside chair. Is there anything you'd change? No, it was magical because it of its individuality and unwillingness to conform to what many travelers want or need. This place has charm and integrity, and making too many changes would disrupt that. Any other hotel features worth noting?Don't rush off property, enjoy the pool! Hard to take your eyes off that volcano. The birds in the surrounding forest are incredible and worth getting a pair of binocs to do some birdwatching. Colors like you've never seen before. Ditto for some of the flora. Bottom line: Worth it? Why?Yes, unlike any other place on planet earth. Euro colonial meets Mexican mountain jungle. Worth every penny and every bump on the long drive up to it." - Adam H. Graham

These Hotels Take Farm-to-Table to the Next Level

"At Hacienda de San Antonio, a regal pink hotel set on a monumental estate in Colima, Mexico, guests can wake with the roosters and head out to the neighboring Jabali Ranch to milk cows and goats. The ranch, which belongs to the hotel and provides it with fresh produce, also has a coffee roastery and cheesery where each process can be observed." - Mary Holland

Excellence all around. The staff are well educated all around of the hacienda and the ranch. Everything is made from the ranch. Volcanic filter water, private airport, all free range animals. The rooms are often clean. The service to the guest is the hotel main goal. the property is absolutely magical. Never used the word magical but this is the first time I can use it and you can experience it with all 5 senses. I recommend it to anyone that loves nature and wants to escape any city.

I had the WORST experience. The whole team is extremely rude. I tried to book an event with them and they said they would send me the information FOUR times. They never did until I email them to ask them for information to which they responded that they never had a record of it. Funny because I had talked to Rosi FOUR times to access that information and she assured me it was already sent and it never was. Once I received information I have called 5 different times to speak with the events manager to get coordination going. They were unable to even give me the name of the manager. I tried to call again to get started and they were EXTREMELY rude only saying “they’re unavailable, have a good day” by then hanging up. I am so disappointed with the service and how they have treated me. As a Mexican myself this is not the treatment I expected.

Good luck trying to book for a special event, absolutely impossible. Its like they work hard to not get the hotel fully booked and prefer to not have guest. Food was bad during the entire stay on my last visit unlike years before when it was amazing. Got food poisoning and when were told by the GM that we probably arrived there sick, how is it possible to get sick on the last day of the trip and it being from before we arrived? Been going there since I was a kid and its super sad to see it decline. Long gone are the days when it was perfect, now Doris makes it feel quite uncomfortable

This place is so wonderful and the staff are fabulous and to notch. It's hard to leave, and I'm envious of people who live here... Be sure to book a ride in the hot air balloon with Sean. He's an excellent pilot. Or catered picnic was as fabulous as depicted in many movies... Come prepared to be spoiled, pampered with the best food in a natural relaxed crater valley... And watch the horses around you, with views of the Crater. I'm looking forward to their highly acclaimed mountain top breakfast tomorrow. The large pool is spacious and perfect for lounging. Beautiful tennis court. Organic produce and fabulous cheeses produced at their farm. My son in law who visits top places around the world has claimed this is his favorite. I agree!
