The Best Hotels in Mexico City: All the MICHELIN Keys

"Set off the usual tourist route in Tlalpan, Hacienda Peña Pobre inhabits a former 17th-century villa amid lush gardens near the Bosque de Tlalpan nature reserve; the rustic-chic hotel features sleekly designed guest rooms and a cozy lounge ideal for charming breakfasts, with Coyoacán, San Ángel and MICHELIN‑Starred Sud 777 all a short drive away." - The MICHELIN Guide

"There are few cities in the world quite as overwhelming as Mexico City, but even here there are green spaces to be found, if you know where to look. Hacienda Peña Pobre lies not in the ultra-urban heart of the city but near its southern edge; more importantly, it’s set just yards from the Bosque de Tlalpan, a sizable urban forest and a popular destination for locals in need of some greenery." - Tablet Hotels

It's such a great visit. I hate to share. I want to keep it to myself but in the interest of helping Hacienda Pena Pobre keep all of their beautiful staff employed, here it goes. The night we arrived the attendant came out out to greet us warmly and welcome us into this hidden gem. The grounds were immaculate, each space upon entry is appropriately appointed. The decor is the right mix of function and aesthetics. The front desk staff is nothing short of amazing. The support staff is warm, aware and efficient. We are better for our stay at the Hacienda. Service feels homely.❤️ Looking forward to our next stay. Cheers to what could easily be our home away from home.

The place is amazing, and service is great. The only downside is that their beautiful bar that really invites you to be there has a poor service, once the personnel is there they are amazing but that’s about it. Breakfast was not great, would recommend meals somewhere else

If you’re staying in the south of CDMX… I can’t imagine a better place to be. The hotel is beautiful (so much nicer than your average high end hotel chain) and very close to the Tlalpan National Forest which has lovely running/walking and cycling trails.

Over the last 30 years, I've had the fortune of staying in several awesome hotels, like Conrad Tokyo, Mandarin Oriental Singapore, Hilton Antwerp Groenplats, Fairmont Banff... Hacienda Pena Pobre ranks up there in my list now. Absolutely beautiful & charming property, with an equally charming team, including Viviana, Ricardo and the rest of the crew. I will be back!

I visited this hotel on a business trip and had an excellent experience! The grounds are stunning, and the hotel offers a peaceful, quiet atmosphere, making it a wonderful place to stay away from the noise. The staff provided exceptional service and were incredibly attentive. For management, I’d recommend adding a full-length mirror in the room, perhaps in the closet, and including a few gluten-free breakfast options. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here!

My wife and I stayed here for part of our honeymoon while in Ciudad México. We stayed from October 29th to November 3rd; right during Dia de Muertos. It was a great stay! We figured we'd hear a lot of noise because of the holiday, but it was quiet and peaceful. The staff were amazing and helpful. They showed us how to program the room safe, and were patient with our many questions. They serviced the room as we asked. Be sure to ask, it is not serviced without request. On the last few days of our stay, it unexpectedly rained. They lent us a few umbrellas so that we could continue exploring without getting soaked. We tried to avoid tourist areas so this location was perfect. Close to Centro de Tlalpan, a smaller area with fewer tourists where we enjoyed breakfast at the mercado. The included continental breakfast was great; coffee, pan dulce, bagels, fruit, oatmeal, etc. The coffee was actually pretty good. I'm usually not too hopeful with coffee at hotels, but it's decently strong. Very safe, quiet neighborhood. It's at the edge of a more affluent neighborhood. About a 45 minute (with traffic) Uber ride to the center of the city, and close to food stands and higher end eateries. Great hotel, we'll be back when we visit Mexico again.

Possibly the most wonderful hotel I’ve stayed in and I’m a world traveler. The staff is also as kind as can be. I’ve been to CDMX dozens of times and I didn’t know that just by being in Tlapan you are in another world, so far from the noise and pollution of CDMX. Tlapan itself is a lovely little town nestled in the mountains and forest. It has the feel of the old Mexico. Please—keep this place a secret 😃

Wonderful boutique hotel tucked in a quiet street in Tlapan. Historic building has been exquisitely restored with all the modern touches. Ammenities are excellent and the bed was super comfortable. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Continently breakfast is extensive and tasty. I tried the new dinner menu and loved the tuna filet. Super reasonable and quiet.
