Hackbarth’s - Review - Mitte - Berlin - The Infatuation

"Hackbarth's has been a reliable presence on the corner of two of Mitte’s prettiest streets since just after the fall of the wall. The Augustraße bar entices you in with its quintessential Berlin utilitarian glamour—a velvet curtain-draped doorway, a gold bar that blinds you in the sunlight, and all the old-school, laidback charm of a glass bottle milk float. The countertop is marble, the drinks list is endless, the regulars are chatty, and even the coffee is strong. Hackbarth’s is where we go when we can’t decide whether we want an espresso or a pilsner, and we stay long enough that we get both, followed by a campari spritz because the man in the corner reading a newspaper who looks like he was born here is drinking one. This isn’t a sexy Berlin bar—it’s more of a day-to-night hangout that might also involve a slice of cake." - Olivia Ladanyi

Bars and Nightlife in Berlin

"One of the few remaining old school pub-style bars in Mitte, Hackbarths has an unpretentious interior with a large, central bar; wooden tables and chairs; and a fairly loyal crowd of regulars. Service is reliably surly, the drinks list reassuringly limited, and there’s cake on offer during the day, as well as outdoor seating in warm weather. Sometimes, that’s all you need." - MATADOR_NETWORK

For me, it feels like a very typical Berlin Kneipe in the heart of Mitte – a place you can drop by in the morning or late at night, surrounded by an interesting local crowd. I especially liked that they serve one of my favorite German beers, Tegernsee, on tap. Smoking is allowed inside.

A nicely decorated bar with a casual and relaxed vibe. We stopped in for a short afternoon break and had wine by the carafe and a beer. Both the interior is well designed and cozy, and sitting outside is also very pleasant. Prices were fair (€22 for our drinks). A nice place to pause and enjoy a drink while exploring Mitte.

Love the place, just had this time terrible experience. We enter and ask waiter to sit at only free table, he shows place we sit and order, after 5min from outside smoking his friends come in (one person that usually works there as well) and want "their" place back (didn't leave anything) amd waiter doesn't do shit to find new place. We left.

One of the last few genuine-feeling bars in the neighborhood and one of the only ones with delicious Franconian beer on tap. Cash only, usually quite busy.

Come here if you like a good old (East-) Berliner dress down. If you are the masochistic type you will have a great time. If you are in need of some "well earned" customer respect then don't come unless you belong to the established clique here. Maybe they just don't like ignorant on mobile fixed foreigners?

Google
Typical Berlin bar no BS just good natured clientele and friendly staff selling good pils. Always good for an art crowd to assemble plotting their next biennial at the small bench table in the back. I luckily haven't encountered the rude barmaid that other reviewers seem to have an issue with.

One of the most beautiful bars in Berlin. Amazing coffee in an vintage bar atmosphere. Really comfortable and located in a peaceful quarter. It’s a must.

Always the first port of call on any trip to Berlin. No frills but very comfortable and laid-back. Manages the difficult trick of being a great boozer and relaxing cafe. Decent beer (if you're fed up with Berliner Kindl!) and pretty much shuts when the last customer stumbles out.

Yelp
A chill place to hang out with co workers or friends after work for a cold beer, cake, or some wine. No frills and cheap prices. It gets filled up quickly during the after work rush, and also I believe they allow smoking inside.

Yelp
Best Café/Bar in Berlin. Good Place with Good Alcoholic/Non-Alcoholic Drinks.

Yelp
The locals seem to like this place. That's it, I ran out of nice things to say. There are so many similar places in the neighborhood, give them a try! (Also: full of smoke)

Yelp
I went here on a friday evenig and it was not too crowded. the street on which hackbarths is on is pretty nice and also known as "gallery row" with lots of other cute places and obviously galleries. Hackbarths i think is just a basic cafe with a more run down interior like it is common in berlin. the staff was ok, and the drink are priced ok as well. as you can see, i think it's only ok and there are other places in the area that I would rather frequent.
