Why Hadramout Restaurants Are Expanding to Serve Yemeni Food Across Texas - Eater Dallas

"On busy weekends, it’s common to see 30-inch diameter stainless steel platters, heaving with spiced rice and meats, carried out of the Hadramout Restaurant’s doors by two or more people on their way to a family feast. This restaurant group serves the equivalent of 200 whole lambs per week, each carefully selected at auction by the owners and processed at a halal-certified shop before being transferred to a kitchen for butchering and prep. It’s an efficient, hands-on operation that’s allowed Hadramout to expand quickly to Texas’s biggest metros in just three short years, starting in Houston and expanding to Plano, Irving, and Austin. Then you taste the mandi, the famous spiced roasted lamb or chicken served that’s so tender that the bones come off clean from the meat, and it becomes clear why legions of Texans are so enamored with this growing Yemeni restaurant group." - Didi Paterno

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (10/10) Our visit to Hadramaut Restaurant in Irving was unforgettable. From the moment we walked in, we felt like we were stepping into a true Yemeni dining experience. The atmosphere, the aroma, and the hospitality all set the stage for what turned out to be one of the best meals we’ve had in the entire Dallas area. The Lamb Mandi was on a completely different level. Perfectly tender, falling apart with just a touch of the fork, and infused with that deep, smoky, traditional flavor that only real Yemeni chefs know how to achieve. Every bite felt like it came straight from a homeland kitchen—authentic, rich, and full of soul. Then came the Zurbiani rice, and honestly, it deserves a review on its own. The spices were balanced like art—fragrant, colorful, and cooked to perfection. It complemented the lamb beautifully and added that signature Hadrami touch that sets this place miles apart from any other restaurant in Dallas serving similar dishes. And the fish—absolutely tremendous. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and seasoned with a blend that hits you with layers of flavor. You could tell it was fresh, cooked right, and prepared using a recipe passed down through generations. It’s rare to find seafood done this well in a landlocked city, but they nailed it. If you’re looking for authentic, if you’re looking for quality, and if you’re looking for the best Yemeni and Hadrami cuisine in all of Dallas, Hadramaut is the clear winner. No question. This is a true 10-star experience—one of those places you keep coming back to, and one you recommend to everyone without hesitation.

Google
Hadramout some of the best mandi ive ever had. I'd highly recommend it if you're looking for authentic mandi. The chicken mandi was fall off the bone super soft and tender. My first time having fish mandi and it was by far way better than my expectations. Fish was in a tandoori masala, cooked perfectly. Very fair pricing and large quantity of food. Plenty of seating for families. Rice was very tasteful as well.

The food at Hadramout is incredible; it's my dad's go-to spot, and he never complains about the quality. But be warned: the management of the pickup process is rough. You can call in and show up later, only to be left waiting for 45 minutes. The food is worth the wait if you have the time, but it's definitely not the place to go if you're in a hurry or need catering right away.

We got the lamb mandi and the chicken haneith, and I cannot explain how fast my jaw dropped when I picked up the bone and the meat just fell off. Straight off the bone. It was the tenderest chicken and lamb I've had in a while. Both were excellently seasoned, and the rice was very very flavorful as well. The tomato sauce they gave had a nice tart kick to it, so it contrasted the rice and chicken well. Overall I definitely recommend, it's delicious.

Google
I don’t usually leave bad reviews, but this place was a huge disappointment. The rice was completely plain, like it hadn’t even seen a pinch of salt. The chicken had zero flavor — dry and bland to the point where it felt like I was just chewing for no reason. The only thing that actually had any taste was the fried onion on top, which says a lot about the rest of the food. Definitely not worth the money or the hype. I never leave a bite in my plate but today i left still hungry and unsatisfied.

The best lamb I ever had very tender and soft. The rice was so good. Also, the tea was amazing.

Great experience at Hadramout. I tried the lamb broth soup, the fahisa, and the hanith lamb — everything was very good. The lamb was tender, flavorful, and cooked just right. The broth soup was especially nice, and the fahisa was tasty and satisfying. The bread was fresh and complemented the food well. Service was excellent. A very enjoyable experience with really good food.

Yelp
The portions were insane and the food quality was quite good, with the lamb being very tender. The service and restaurant layout was not great though.

Yelp
In Texas for the weekend and the family is going to go all in on BBQ this entire trip. So before we embark on that journey I just wanted something different. I stumbled upon this spot as a restaurant close to me from a Yelp search. Saw the reviews and said lets give it a shot. This place did not disappoint. Very family oriented vibe but was super welcoming as I pulled up solo. The greeter was very pleasant and it was open seating so i just grabbed a table and sat down. Went through the menu but I already had an idea of what I wanted to try. The waitress was very nice. Took my order and this begins my journey.... For starters we have Lamb broth soup. Soup came out steaming hot. Delicious!! This soup set the tone for the rest of the experience. Then we follow up with Chicken hanith as the entree. People ...the seasoning and spices within this dish were so flavorful. I literally had to stop myself from finishing the plate because I knew I had ordered dessert. Which brings me to the final stages of this already excellent meal. Dessert is Areeka....phenomenal. I honestly thought it was going to be too sweet for my tastes based off the presentation but the balance in that dish was unreal. It was just sweet enough. Now it is obvious that these dishes could be/ought to be shared.....but I could've eaten that meal in its entirety. It was that good. Will definitely be going back and the next time I will be trying the lamb. Great people, great food, great time!!

Yelp
Most of the dishes are XL, so keep that in mind while ordering. The service is just OK. The place is relaxed and some of the dishes don't disappoint at all, it just takes being used to this type of cuisine and its strong flavors!

Yelp
We have been to the Plano location a couple of times and do like it there. This spot is closer to us and we wanted to find a place in Ramadan that is near the mosque. We made reservations ahead by calling in. The lady we spoke to was very respectful and took her time to explain things and ensure we put in our order ahead so it is all ready by the time we break our fast. Once we got there we were seated at a table and lo and behold all our food started coming in one at a time that we had ordered in advance. It was a full house and they had a great system to ensure people had their food on time. The food all tasted great. We enjoyed everything and the servers were very attentive. The only thing I would suggest they work on is the ambiance. Not sure what kind of look they are going for or if they just haven't started on anything yet, but the decor and setup of the place can use some work. That isn't at all a deal breaker though and we will continue to come here and even order out.

Yelp
I made order from this restaurant (mendy)chicken and meat withe salad ,8 yogurt I did not find the yogurt although they take all the wages , bad restaurant

Tony V.

Yelp
Flavorless food. Rude customer service. The person bagging the order saw me waiting for him suddenly stopped halfway and rudely demanded me to finish bagging it up for him. This is just unheard of. You ask for a tip shamelessly and couldn't even put in the effort to bag up the order.

Yelp
Great service and portions. Appreciate the ambience as well. Friendly waiter. Meat was well seasoned and tender.

Yelp
The food was fantastic. We had Mandi lamb which was melt in your mouth tender and the seasoned rice was amazing! We also had the Mediterranean plate with a generous fresh salad, delicious baba ganoush, some of the best hummus I've had, served with pita bread. Worth the trip!! The food is worth 5 stars. The ambiance is a bit rough but it won't stop me from coming back. I understand they're redecorating this weekend.
